Rasmus goes on a trip with the English merchant navy after shooting a German officer. Incidentally, he is also firmly convinced that the war will only last a few months. When he returns home in 1919, Christine has, in spite of her anger, married an ice-cold man who is a banker. Rasmus comes all the way out in the ropes. He had thought Christine would wait for him until doomsday. Therefore, the last love showdown between them is now being planned, but on completely different terms than before the war.
