- Widower Sheriff Andy Taylor, and his son Opie, live with Andy's Aunt Bee in Mayberry, North Carolina. With virtually no crimes to solve, most of Andy's time is spent philosophizing and calming down his cousin Deputy Barney Fife.
- When Aunt Bee gets a call from her niece Martha asking if she would take take care of their baby for a week while they attend a wedding, she gladly accepts. She also assures Andy that the baby will be no trouble at all. She's somewhat taken aback however when the baby cries every time she picks her up. Others seem to have no problem, including Andy. She soon finds herself asking anyone who is handy to stop by the house at feeding times, as she's convinced herself that the baby hates her. An emergency of sorts convinces her otherwise.
- Andy and Barney have to protect a shipment of gold which will be going through Mayberry on the way to Fort Knox. It's critical that they keep it a secret, but Barney spills the beans immediately and within minutes all of Mayberry knows. A carnival-like atmosphere soon takes hold. The plot thickens when Barney discovers there's no gold in the truck.
- Barney has to play matchmaker for Thelma Lou's homely, visiting cousin Mary Grace, and sets her up with Gomer Pyle.
- Opie and his friends get involved in a scheme selling a worthless product called 'Miracle Salve.'
- For the sake of a determined young couple, Andy aims to end an 87-year-old bloodless feud betwixt their daddies.
- A new dating service wants to test out its questionnaire that is meant to find people with common interests and pursuits. They focus on Mayberry and soon Goober is filling out the questionnaire. Opie tries to tell him that he's not answering the questionnaire correctly - such as saying he read 30 books a month when in fact he reads that many comic books - but Goober perseveres. Soon, he's on a date with the highly educated designer of the questionnaire and it becomes painfully apparent that they have little in common. As things develop however, she soon finds there may be some advantage to the lifestyle and attraction of small-town living.
- Opie and his new friend Tommy are having fun with the new boy's miniature walkie-talkies. They listen in on conversations and the like but Tommy has a sense of humor that not everyone appreciates. When Goober adopts a stray dog, they hide one of the walkie-talkies in the animal's collar and soon the gullible mechanic thinks he has a talking dog. Goober soon makes a fool of himself and the boys think it's quite funny. Andy tries to impress upon them that humiliating people is not funny and teaches Tommy a lesson in what it feels like to be the butt of someone's practical joke.
- Mayberry has a new doctor in town who runs into difficulty being accepted because no one wants to be his first patient.
- That there may be a direct descendant of a Revolutionary War hero living in Mayberry flatters the town, 'til they learn who it is.
- A pop singer stops in town and ends up performing a song that Aunt Bee and Clara wrote on his TV show. Unfortunately, his version of the song does not meet their approval.
- Aunt Bee wins a trip to Mexico and takes Clara and Myrtle. When they get back, they aren't even speaking to each other.
- Andy takes a trip to Raleigh to visit Barney and ends up making him a hero by solving a series of robberies.
- Warren's ESP warns that a picnic will be a disaster for Andy and Helen.
- Barney's ready for Andy to get married, but Andy is not. In the situations that follow, Andy may have found someone, unbeknownst to Mayberry's most meddlesome matchmaker.
- In tracking down area moonshiners, Barney and Andy hardly suspect the little, old Morrison sisters who've been so helpful to them, but they should.
- Opie's reinterpretation of Andy's encouragement lands Andy in hot water with Opie's new teacher, Miss Helen "Old Lady" Crump.
- When the Scobey family misses a mortgage payment, Ben Weaver insists Andy serve them a foreclosure notice immediately, but Andy aims to save the Scobeys their home.

- Andy gets worried about how to pay for Opie's college, so he opens a laundromat to earn some extra money. It takes a lot more of his time that he thought it would.
- Helen gets jealous when an old girlfriend of Andy's returns to Mayberry.
- When Andy finds out his new girlfriend's father is wealthy, Barney talks him into believing the relationship is doomed.
- Andy gets jealous when a big-city teacher arrives to work with Helen and ends up spending several evenings with her.
- Andy has to break a date with Helen and go to Raleigh to meet with a lawyer who turns out to be a pretty blonde. Andy lies to Helen about it, but she finds out.
- Andy takes a much-needed vacation, leaving Barney and Gomer in charge. Unfortunately, nobody will let him get any rest.
- Aunt Bee takes driving lessons from Goober. Although she isn't licensed to drive by herself, she moves the car for a tree trimmer and runs it into the tree.
- Aunt Bee takes a part-time job at a printing shop that has just opened in town. When Andy notices, among other things, that they print business cards with green ink, he figures out just what they're in the business of printing!
