On their next dinner date, Shelly insincerely offers to pay the tab and is shocked when J.T. agrees. But Shelly finds herself in a tough situation because she doesn't have enough money. Excusing herself from the table, she quickly telephones her girlfriends to bring her money. J.T. sees Shelly accepting cash from Rita and Janie. He confronts Shelly, and she tells him the truth.

Meanwhile, after finding out that J.T. slept with Nick's ex-girlfriend in college, Nick decides to make a pass at Shelly to get even.
- Janie calls a popular radio show to vent about her mother-in-law and ends up revealing more than she intended to. Meanwhile, Nick and Rita start dating. JAY MANUEL ("America's Next Top Model") guest stars as Jay and radio personalities J. ANTHONY BROWN, TOM JOYNER and MYRA J guest star as themselves.
- Nick becomes upset because Shelly is always at the apartment he shares with her boyfriend, J.T. Shelly eats the guys' food and generally interrupts their manly pursuits, but J.T. doesn't mind. Recurring guest star PHIL LaMARR ("MADtv") appears as Eve's hairstylist, Coleman.

Meanwhile, J.T. volunteers to bring his "D.J. Fine" persona out of retirement when Donovan needs a substitute for his regular D.J. at Z Lounge.

Meanwhile, Rodney's colleagues take his "discrimination" fight to the streets by picketing outside the store. ANTONIO FARGAS (Huggy Bear from the original "Starsky & Hutch" series) guest stars as Shelly's Uncle Jerry, a fellow pimp.
- Shelly and J.T. prepare to celebrate their 3-month anniversary with a romantic weekend getaway until J.T. realizes he's already committed to play in a basketball tournament with his friends, including competitive Trevor (Los Angeles Lakers basketball player DEREK FISHER). Despite his attempt to soften the blow of canceling the trip with dinner and gifts, J.T. remains in trouble with Eve. Later at the tournament, J.T.'s guilt affects his game--until he tries to reach Shelly on her cellular phone and discovers that she and the girls are at a wild fraternity party with Rita's new college boyfriend, Chip (SEAN FARIS).

Meanwhile, convinced that "women love tattoos," Nick gets Donovan to introduce him to Xenon (multiplatinum hip-hop artist DMX - "Cradle 2 the Grave," "Exit Wounds"), the best tattoo artist in Miami.
- After accepting J.T.'s proposal, Shelly giddily starts making plans for the wedding until her mother, Beverly (PENNY JOHNSON JERALD - "24"), shows up unexpectedly, determined to convince her daughter that marriage is a bad decision. Meanwhile, J.T. gets accepted to medical school. Later, Donovan receives an interesting offer that could allow him to stay in the United States.
