- Six years before, Aleksander Larin, a well-known artist, left the Soviet Union for the USA. Today he is back to his country, which after the collapse of communism, has resumed the name of Russia. Frightened of a situation he himself thought immoral, Aleksander ran away from the two women. Now Anna is married to a wealthy businessman and Masha is engaged. Aleksander soon finds his return to the "motherland" is pointless. The country has changed and dead love cannot be rekindled.
