- Eve is suspended from school by name-calling to another student. Mike finds it hard to believe this is a reason for suspending a student and uses his video blog to voice his opinions. Ryan gets a commercial driving license and gets a job.
- Mike puts the American Flag up in his yard and learns that Ryan does not want Boyd to learn the Pledge of Allegiance. Eve decides she wants to show her support for America by joining ROTC. Vanessa does not agree with the decision.
- Mike & Vanessa hire a maid who helps out in many ways. Mike makes sure she has a green card, and she does. It makes him wonder about the hires at work. A long time employee does not, and Mike tries to find a way to keep him at work.
- An architect submits a job bid. Ed wants to hire a younger, prettier architect. Mike wants to hire Bill. Vanessa thinks he is being sexist, but finds she was picked for a promotion because of her good looks.

- Mandy stays out four hours past her curfew while on a date with Kyle. Mike and Vanessa find a way to get her to confess without actually asking her about it. Kristin continues to date her ex-boyfriend.
- Mike hires a soccer coach to help Eve improve her game so she has a better chance at a college scholarship. The coach is extremely attractive and all the woman swoon over him. Mandy wants Kyle to be jealous that she lusts after another man.
- Mandy might fail history so Mike & Vanessa take away her electronic devices until she improves her grade. Mike takes Ryan, Boyd, & Eve to the opening game for baseball. Bill starts taunting Mike & his family. Ryan handles the situation.

- While Mike's father babysat Boyd, he gave Boyd a small smack. This sets off a debate of parenting styles from different generations. Boyd learns to take advantage of his parents who do not spank, and Kristen feels she was spanked too much.
- In the spirit of Christmas, the sometimes self-absorbed Mandy plays Santa by anonymously arranging a holiday surprise for Blanca, the Baxters' housekeeper. Also, when Vanessa gives Boyd a "magical" Elf doll, Ryan wants to tell Boyd it is just a doll, but Mike wants to prove to Ryan that a little Christmas spirit is not a bad thing.
- Eve has proudly posted one of Mike's politically charged blogs on her Facebook page but ignores the kids at school when they start giving her a hard time for her views. Vanessa worries that Eve may become an outcast, but Mike feels like standing up for your beliefs builds character. Meanwhile, a local police officer begins patrolling the neighborhood and the Baxters find themselves in trouble with the law. Mike is outnumbered when the women in his family get off with warnings.
- Boyd has a discipline problem at school, resisting sitting still in class and getting bored easily. When Kristin explains that the school counselor suggests he go on medicine for ADHD, both Ryan and Mike passionately disagree. Meanwhile, with some extra help, Mandy spends all of her time studying in an effort to get good grades for a change
- When tasked with researching his school's namesake, Boyd gets a little help from Kristin and Ryan and his report causes outrage, prompting the school to reconsider its name. Also upsetting Vanessa, Mike suggests reaching out to school board member and neighbor, Carol Larabee, for help. Meanwhile, Mandy enlists Blanca's expertise for a class project.
- A large bouquet of roses is delivered anonymously to the Baxter's house on Valentine's Day. Vanessa knows they're not for her because Mike doesn't believe in the frivolity of flowers on a Hallmark holiday.
- The Baxter's dog impregnated the neighbor's dog. Vanessa learns Chuck is separated from Carol, and Vanessa asks Mike to talk to Chuck to help heal the marriage. Mandy hits a car and wants to avoid responsibility. Eve puts a note on the car.
- Eve has a new boyfriend, and when the two of them are scheduled for an ROTC camping trip, her sisters tease Eve about being alone with him. She tells her sisters she is not like them and has no plans to sleep with him.
- For a class project, Mandy has to showcase her clothing designs at a student fashion show and asks Eve to fill in as a model.

- Ryan convinces an overprotective Kristin to let Boyd participate in the mutton busting competition to build Boyd's confidence. Eve's boyfriend's doesn't want her to wear her JROTC uniform to the prom.
- Mike is ecstatic when Eve is picked to be her high school's first female kicker. But Vanessa feels high school football could be risky for their youngest daughter. Meanwhile, Eve wonders if her boyfriend, Justin, is more envious instead of enthusiastic about her achievement.
- Mike offers Mandy advice on how to set aside money to pay the taxes on her struggling online clothing business. But she decides to do it her way - by opening up a pop up store at Bud's Buds.
- Boyd gets sent home early from a birthday party for starting a game of "war," Ryan insists Mike stop exposing his son to action movies and video games. Meanwhile, Vanessa hopes budding fashion designer, Mandy, can help her look awesome when she meets with her still hot-looking college roommates.
- Mike and Ed's friendship is put to the test by Ed's controlling girlfriend.
- Mike and Boyd almost drive into a sinkhole on the interstate, which scares Boyd to the point that he refuses to leave the house; Mike and Ryan try to help Boyd.
