I don't think there is any question about how great this particular filmmaker is. Ever since Memento, he has proven himself to be something quite different from anything we have ever seen before in movies. No matter if he stands there as director, writer or producer, his films becomes masterpieces. There is not a single film by him which I do not love, and he is without any doubt the greatest filmmaker I know

I am not even going to attempt to explain why this guy is on my list. Anyone who has seen any of his projects (especially "2001: A Space Oddysey", "A ClockWork Orange" and "The Shining") should know that he was the greatest filmmaker of his time. Directing, writing and producing in his own great, unique way, his work has been the inspiration for many of my other favourite filmmakers.

Generally, I think that a film can only truly be called "A film by" if the filmmaker in question has in some way been a part of the writing/conception process. David Fincher isn't a writer, but his style is still so original and so great, that his movies truly are HIS movies.
