- DirectorWes AndersonStarsGene HackmanGwyneth PaltrowAnjelica HustonThe eccentric members of a dysfunctional family reluctantly gather under the same roof for various reasons.Simply one of my favorite films of all-time. Needs to be seen several times to fully absorb. Wes Anderson rocks!
- DirectorLasse HallströmStarsKevin SpaceyJulianne MooreJudi DenchAn emotionally beaten man with his young daughter moves to his ancestral home in Newfoundland to reclaim his life. With the possible exception of Wes Anderson, Lasse Hallstrom is my favorite director today...and this is his best work.
- DirectorJean-Pierre JeunetStarsAudrey TautouMathieu KassovitzRufusDespite being caught in her imaginative world, Amelie, a young waitress, decides to help people find happiness. Her quest to spread joy leads her on a journey where she finds true love. What a charmer!
- DirectorZach BraffStarsZach BraffPeter SarsgaardNatalie PortmanA quietly troubled young man returns home for his mother's funeral after being estranged from his family for a decade. An American Amelie...Braff makes awesome directorial debut.
- DirectorJerry ZuckerStarsBreckin MeyerAmy SmartWhoopi GoldbergA Las Vegas casino magnate determined to find a new avenue for wagering sets up a race for money.More fun with the Zuckers! Zany, yet has a few really clever moments!
- DirectorMichael ClancyStarsRay RomanoJesse BradfordHank AzariaA black comedy that follows three generations of a family, who come together for the funeral of the patriarch - unveiling a litany of family secrets and covert relationships.Like Tenenbaums, Amelie & Garden State, a fun little dark comedy about a dysfunctional family.
- DirectorCampbell ScottStarsValentina de AngelisJoan AllenSam ElliottAn eleven-year-old girl watches her father come down with a crippling depression. Over one summer, she learns answers to several mysteries, and comes to terms with love and loss. This one really IS 'off the map.' No one has heard of it, but it is a cool little film, with another awesome performance by Sam Elliott.
- DirectorLasse HallströmStarsJuliette BinocheJohnny DeppJudi DenchA French woman and her young daughter open up a chocolate shop in a small remote village that shakes up the rigid morality of the community.Hallstrom always rocks, Dench always rocks & Depp always rocks...so, guessa what? THIS ONE rocks!
- DirectorGary RossStarsTobey MaguireJeff BridgesElizabeth BanksTrue story of the undersized Depression-era racehorse whose victories lifted not only the spirits of the team behind it but also those of their nation. What a nice, inspirational, heartwarming family film! This is a keeper..I only hope Secretariat is as good!
- DirectorMaria RipollStarsHector ElizondoJacqueline ObradorsTamara MelloA Mexican-American master chef and father to three daughters has lost his taste for food, but not for life.Another dark comedy about a somewhat dysfunctional family, only with a Mexican flavor. Very enjoyable!
- DirectorRobert CollectorStarsJeffrey DonovanSamantha MathisDoris HargraveIn a conservative small town, a young man's wish to coach high school basketball are tweaked by a school board decision that makes him the new coach of the girls' team. One of my favorite inspirational sports films. Combines Hoosiers, A League of Their Own & Remember the Titans, in a sense.
- DirectorDavid Mickey EvansStarsSean AstinPowers BootheRachael Leigh CookKent Stock disrupts his life to become coach of the Norway High School baseball team and try to lead them to victory.Another great sports film, based on a true story.
- DirectorMel GibsonStarsJim CaviezelMonica BellucciMaia MorgensternDepicts the final twelve hours in the life of Jesus of Nazareth, on the day of his crucifixion in Jerusalem.Very hard to watch, but - at least for Christians - very important to see. Too bad Gibson's later behavior hurt his reputation and, by association, this film.
- DirectorDavid ZuckerStarsKevin P. FarleyKelsey GrammerLeslie NielsenAn anti-American filmmaker who's out to abolish the July Fourth holiday is visited by three ghosts who try to change his perception of the country.Hilarious Zucker Bro. parody! A left-winger might not want to watch it (as I opted not to watch Fahrenheit 911), but anyone who can laugh at the left or laugh at BOTH sides should enjoy it.
- DirectorJoe JohnstonStarsBenicio Del ToroAnthony HopkinsEmily BluntUpon his return to his ancestral homeland, an American man is bitten and subsequently cursed by a werewolf.Personally I loved The Wolfman. I found its eerie atmosphere perfect & had no problem with the pacing. Nice redo of a horror classic.
