10 titles
- DirectorDavid FincherStarsJesse EisenbergAndrew GarfieldJustin TimberlakeAs Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg creates the social networking site that would become known as Facebook, he is sued by the twins who claimed he stole their idea and by the co-founder who was later squeezed out of the business. This movie should've won, hands down. Brilliantly done, this movie was intelligent and funny. It may have been just a bit too intelligent for enough people to understand it's beauty...this is probably why it didn't win.
- DirectorEthan CoenJoel CoenStarsJeff BridgesMatt DamonHailee SteinfeldA stubborn teenager enlists the help of a tough U.S. Marshal to track down her father's murderer. This is definitely one of the best movies ever made. I would also like to point out that Hailee Steinfeld shelled out one of the best acting performances in the history of acting. And the fact that she is only 14 just goes to show how much more amazing this actress is at her job. Fantastic movie.
- DirectorTom HooperStarsColin FirthGeoffrey RushHelena Bonham CarterThe story of King George VI, his unexpected ascension to the throne of the British Empire in 1936, and the speech therapist who helped the unsure monarch overcome his stammer.Although I thoroughly enjoyed this film, I do not think it deserved the Best Picture award it won. I don't have much to say about this movie, but it was at least worth the 10 bucks I paid.
- DirectorMike LeighStarsJim BroadbentRuth SheenLesley ManvilleA look at four seasons in the lives of a happily married couple and their relationships with their family and friends.Beautifully written, flawlessly acted, I am extremely disappointed at the lack of attention it got at the Oscars. Myself, I would probably even go as far as to call it a Dark Horse to The Social Network. Fantastic film, worth every minute of your times that it takes up.
- DirectorDarren AronofskyStarsNatalie PortmanMila KunisVincent CasselNina is a talented but unstable ballerina on the verge of stardom. Pushed to the breaking point by her artistic director and a seductive rival, Nina's grip on reality slips, plunging her into a waking nightmare. This is the most over-rated of all the nominees. Good movie. But not as good as everyone is making it out to be. Although, Natalie Portman's acting performance was one of the best I've ever seen.
- DirectorAlbert HughesAllen HughesStarsDenzel WashingtonMila KunisRay StevensonA drifter fights his way across a ravaged, post-apocalyptic America while protecting a sacred book that holds the secrets to humanity's salvation. This is the most under-rated film of the year. It's powerful message probably drove most people to shun it. It definitely deserved the Oscar recognition that it didn't get.
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsLeonardo DiCaprioJoseph Gordon-LevittElliot PageA thief who steals corporate secrets through the use of dream-sharing technology is given the inverse task of planting an idea into the mind of a C.E.O., but his tragic past may doom the project and his team to disaster.I added this movie only because of it's amazing idea that was solidly carried out. It didn't blow me away, and I wasn't shocked and awed when I watched it. But it was good. But it also wasn't amazing.
- DirectorLisa CholodenkoStarsAnnette BeningJulianne MooreMark RuffaloTwo children conceived by artificial insemination bring their biological father into their non-traditional family life.Deeply intense for a comedy, this movie deserved every ounce of attention it got, and more. Lovable characters and witty dialogue made this a great film, and great competition at the Oscars.
- DirectorGlenn FicarraJohn RequaStarsJim CarreyEwan McGregorLeslie MannA cop turns con man once he comes out of the closet. Once imprisoned, he meets the second love of his life, whom he'll stop at nothing to be with.(Although the site says 2009, this movie was released in 2010)
Good comedies aren't often recognized at the Academy Awards. But seeing as how The Kids Are All Right received so much Oscar attention, I believe this film, which was much better, deserved the same kind of recognition. This movie wasn't very publicized. Sadly the reason that it was almost ignored the entire year. - DirectorDavid O. RussellStarsMark WahlbergChristian BaleAmy AdamsBased on the story of Micky Ward, a fledgling boxer who tries to escape the shadow of his more famous but troubled older boxing brother and get his own shot at greatness.Truly a great boxer film. I was never a fan of those, but I loved this movie more than I can say. Delivering outstanding performances, Christian Bale, Melissa Leo, Amy Adams, and Mark Whalberg all deserved an award. The movie rightly shouldn't have won, but it deserved the nomination.
