Nothing needs to be said about this sci-fi masterpiece. With Cameron's direction and stunning special effects, this movie is definitely unique. Pandora, a home away from home, a really cool moon with the even more cool Na'vi people this is definitely one of the best sci-fis of all time.

A very unique film truly. What makes it totally unique is its militaristic feel set in the backdrop of a science experiment lab. Unlike its game counterpart it does not feature any fantasy based elements like Hell. Instead it relies totally on science with its crowning factor being the First Person Shooter scene in the end. Good plot line adds value too.

Though followed by numerous (not as good) sequels, this original movie that started it all should never be forgotten. The whole story set inside a spaceship (except for a brief visit to a planet), watching this sci fi masterpiece is a truly fantastic ride. Unique ideas include the alien having acid for blood, face-hugging as a means of reproduction, tearing apart the stomach of the victim to release and more and more.

One more unequaled film with military feel. Though it starts nostalgic references to college life and military government it is much more. It talks of a man's feelings before and during military life. Also, it talks of how relationships could change after passing out of college and getting to do some serious work. With the alien bugs giving a good plot line in another direction, this is one truly original piece unlike its sequels.

This is the only true Star Wars film. The first in the series to use computer special effects and has a cerebral plot. Unlike its boring predecessors this one makes it very entertaining till the last drop. A fantastic prequel that shows Anakin as a positive character and centers around his special abilities. No other film in the series can equal this excellent work of art.

The Trilogy. Needs no saying for this one and both its sequels. All the aliens and advanced gunning with the best part being, hidden from society. It almost makes us believe that there actually are aliens and a secret organization that protects their existence. Sometimes, I myself think of the possibility of the existence of a similar setup. And not to mention Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, the special effects being flawless........ the space given here is not enough to list all the merits of this film.....

But I can definitely say, the realistic portrayal of all technology through special effects is one fantastic creation. And the robot that feels and leads its fellow robots to light, that's where it gets really GOOD! Now, this blend IS unique.

This and its sequel have a unique feel of the RoboCop world where things are very grim and crime skyrocketing to its peak, truly this guy has come to wipe it all clean.

A silent film, the fact which adds a flavour to the whole film. Silent films have a feel that is not there in talkies. In this film, the portrayal of events, the special effects, the futuristic dramatic setting, narrative and the very imagination of division in society has been fantastic. Dating back to 1927, one cannot expect any more than what was done in this film.

This kind of film is what I call a classic. Why? Futuristic to start with and intriguing in the way it depicts it. A future with a lot of things banned like smoking, drinking, non-vegetarian food, swear words, human physical contact and most importantly........... even sex!!! Especially the scene which shows sex to be banned is the best scene of all. Modern technology depicted which goes with every futuristic sci-fi film. Needless to say two great stars as the protagonist and the antagonist. A society that lives underground which opposes this bad society. And police guys who don't even know how to handle anything from a murder to abusive behaviour (another best part). And as it is the case with many films, the hero finds someone high up is behind it all, kills them and breaks the whole system (WOW!!). Even some of the subtle things are very interesting. For eg: Stallone asks Bullock in the end "How do you use those 3C Shells, anyway?". This is another notable aspect of the film.

I could not help but add the original, as well as the remake to the list. I always wanted to avoid duplication (like I did for Planet of the Apes), but with this film both the original and the remake are equally well-made. This one, the original, has some of the best sci-fi adventure you can capture. Almost everything shown under the earth, every single problem, every step of the journey is so amazing that you will not want it to end. Given the time of original the way they have filmed it is applaud-worthy. In fact, my comments for the 2008 version puts it all in perspective.

To see new landscapes and creatures you need not go to other planets. A new world lies right in the center of our own planet. New plants, structures, natural wonders, new animals, new food, water............... anything to make it a good place to live in. This film and its older (1959) version, they make a very appealing, strong shot in depicting a world beneath the known world and an epic odyssey of wonders.

We have seen umpteen films that talk of Mars. There are hundreds that depict Mars as if its the sister planet to Earth and its the next to sustain life so readily. But NONE of them show a realistic picture of the planet as this sci-fi movie. UNIQUENESS FACTOR -- the portrayal of Mars as how it actually is. This one talks of how the planet is very unsuitable for survival even of we manage to oxygenate it somehow. Near to the end of the movie, we almost feel the difficulty that the lead characters face and makes us think how unsafe Martian environment is.

I am not talking about the 1986 remake. This original version is what is really cool. A very good film, really. What starts like a murder mystery at the beginning has a science fiction background and before you know what ensues it, you have nicely enjoyed some 1 hour 34 minutes. This is one of those few films that talk of the good and bad effects of an invention rather than the invention itself.

Does evolution need eons to progress? No. It just needs a few days. With the meteorite that falls in this movie, evolution of organisms take place within days. There cannot be a more unique concept than witnessing all stages of evolution right from single celled organisms to giant apes, within a few days. With good comedies here and there this film makes a very good entertainer.

An animated film. But a totally a one-of-a-kind rendition. Humanity is probably progressing in the same direction as portrayed in the film. May be we are only a few steps short of it. Also the way robots do all the work, and many types of robots for each field. Robots do all the work, all humans enjoy life without even placing their feet on the ground. And obviously ignorant about any real-life technological or other knowledge. And with a spaceship modelled like earth, this film truly has a special place for itself.

This film is one of those few remakes that are sane and that do true justice to their originals. In fact, this remake was a lot lot better than its original in certain ways. The already good original film is made even better through creating some interesting teen characters and interaction between them. Also special effects are much much better than the original B movie. This film can be a satisfactory choice for any one choosing to watch a good old sci fi flick.

Destruction of the world and restarting of human race. Dated concept BUT NOT WITH ALIENS IN IT!!!! The very unique factor is not the concept but how we are led into it. The beginning with numbers, strange senseless numbers that suddenly make sense and the source of which is in question. This is exactly what sets the film in absolute mystery and thrill.

Yes. This film has done it. It has done what a sci-fi film should do. Many sci-fis merely have a concept, often do not show anything in the name of a storyline and want us to get impressed with it. The purpose if science fiction is to tell a story using science as a medium and not tell us just the science part.
A guy misses his mom and truly realizes her love, when aliens take her away. WOW!!! And with all the photo-realistic animation one can hardly resist rating it at the top.

Originality at its best. May be, it even creates a fantasy in us for such "surrogates". Before the film, we have only seen everyone playing virtual reality all over the world, or films like "The Matrix" show brain-in-a-vat stories. But no one expected a simulation in the real world and the kicker is where 98% of the population use it, forgetting their real selves. It just feels like a simulation all through the film, make us forget everything is happening in the real world. That apart, there are a lot of dramatic turns in the film, few twists and a good interconnected storyline that beats it all!!

Makes it to the list for the unique basic idea around which the film revolves. Clearly, there has not been a film similar to In Time. Even leaving alone the "Time Is Money" concept, the style of filmmaking, the dramatic and sharp events create an intense interest around the film. Also, this is one of those films that has lived up to its trailer. The movie gives the same feel as it did when I watched the trailer.

Also, this one is novel with its plot where the TV actors play their part for real. This one just makes a good sci-fi comedy for an evening.
