- DirectorAllan ArkushStarsMalcolm McDowellAllen GarfieldDaniel SternMega-promoter Colin Beverly plans to sabotage the New Year's 1983 concert of small-time operator Max Wolfe. Wolfe's assistants Neil Allen and Willie Loman find romance while trying to save the drugs, violence, and rock and roll from Beverly's schemes.1/1-Really offbeat 80s movie about somebody throwing a party. No context, not the greatest character development, and a story that could have been written by a 10 year old. Just a party, just like "Bachelor Party", "Weird Science" and many others. Love those 80s movies!
- DirectorJaume Collet-SerraStarsLiam NeesonDiane KrugerJanuary JonesWhen a man awakens from a coma only to discover that someone has taken on his identity, he teams up with a young woman to prove who he is.1/2-i liked this, but I couldn't help but think it was close to seeming like some other movie. No, a bunch of other movies. Watchable, but not original.
- DirectorMario Van PeeblesStars50 CentRay LiottaLynn WhitfieldA drama centered around a promising football running back during his senior year in college.1/5-Impressive but much maligned stretch of a role by 50 Cent. He was a bit stiff, not very charismatic, but he did good. This continues the urban movie Cain and Abel theme of urban movies.
- DirectorTyler PerryStarsTyler PerryLoretta DevineShad MossThe crazy and comical Mabel Simmons, otherwise known as Madea, tries to wrangle her fighting family together for a family dinner regarding the health of her niece Shirley.1/7-This the type of movie if you like Tyler Perry,Christian themes (with a little edginess, but nothing profane), Madea, and that silly Meet the Browns guy, this will be satisfying. I liked it, having been into the Tyler Perry thing, but this is far from the best offering. He has everything you would expect from a Tyler Perry movie, but in this one he seems to put some humor in it that teens and young adults would like. Gags like "1-800-CHOKEAHO" might alienate the Christian viewers but may appeal to the young hip hop crowd. Not the best Tyler Perry movie, but probably just something to keep his name out there.
- DirectorHype WilliamsStarsNasDMXTaral HicksTwo young friends involved in organized crime and drug dealing find that their priorities differ.1/8- I seen this movie when it was in the theater. MTV showed this but what I noticed was that the sound and picture quality was just so crappy. I kept on having to turn the sound up when the commercials ended and turn the sound down when they started. Plus, it seems that all the "effects" that Hype Williams used didn't transfer so well to the small screen, and I was watching on an HD big screen! The dark parts looked too dark and he does alot of distance shots making the characters look like ants. Watching this on regular TV, you cant help but think that!
- DirectorNorman TokarStarsJames WhitmoreBeverly GarlandJack GingWhere the Red Fern Grows is the heartwarming and adventurous tale for all ages about a young boy and his quest for his own red-bone hound hunting dogs.1/14-I just saw the end of this movie but I couldn't help but remember seeing this in the 70s or so. A very tender flick that reminds you of "Little House on the Prairie". I like that stuff.
- DirectorRon HowardStarsVince VaughnKevin JamesWinona RyderA man discovers that his best friend's wife is having an affair.1/15-Pretty drab but amusing. I liked the settings and it had some yuck yuck moments. But as a movie, script was OK and the the intermingling of drama and comedy was alright. I was surprised to see Queen Latifah in this.
- DirectorNancy MeyersStarsMeryl StreepSteve MartinAlec BaldwinWhen attending their son's college graduation, a couple reignite the spark in their relationship. But the complicated fact is they're divorced and he's remarried.1/16-Cute story about a woman committing "reverse adultery" with her ex while being courted by a nice nerdy guy. A bit slow moving and generic romantic comedy.
- DirectorDarren AronofskyStarsNatalie PortmanMila KunisVincent CasselNina is a talented but unstable ballerina on the verge of stardom. Pushed to the breaking point by her artistic director and a seductive rival, Nina's grip on reality slips, plunging her into a waking nightmare.1/17-This movie is Hollywood at it's worse. With a nasty lesbian scene and just lots of utter weirdness, this is a movie that you really should avoid. If you end up watching it you might regret it.
- DirectorBrit McAdamsJames YukichStarsChris Jai AlexCece BellDa BratKatt Williams is back in this theatrical follow-up to the PIMP CHRONCILES PT. 1. Katt's flashy street attitude drives a story about returning to his roots. Katt is offered the opportunity to become a major Hollywood player. But there's a catch - he has to sell out by appearing in a musical penguin movie. Instead, he ditches Hollywood, rounds up his crew of Luenell, Red and Melanie and hits the road in a wild cross-country comedy tour. Features special appearances by Jeremy Piven, Ludacris, Snoop Dogg and Tamela Jones.1/21-Could never understand why people liked this guy in the mid 2000s, after seeing this movie, I still dont. I like how he would ignore and put in check hecklers, but he just cusses too much.
- DirectorDavid DobkinStarsOwen WilsonVince VaughnRachel McAdamsJohn Beckwith and Jeremy Grey, a pair of committed womanizers who sneak into weddings to take advantage of the romantic tinge in the air, find themselves at odds with one another when John meets and falls for Claire Cleary.“ 1/22-I saw this when it first came out. Since then, I have seen this like 5 times. Now, why did I watch it again? Nothing else was on! ” - thepoet21
- DirectorNelson GeorgeDiane ParagasStarsRhonda F. CowanSpike LeeBranford MarsalisAn intimate portrait of the black arts movement that exploded in Fort Greene from the mid 1980s through the 90s as told by writer, historian and Brooklyn resident Nelson George.2/8-A really great and sincere documentary about Nelson George's neighborhood and the early 90s arts movement that encompassed underground hip hop, spoken word poetry, comedy and film making. I liked this in that it showed the scene from the perspective of those who lived it, and showed how gentrification pretty much wiped it out.Very interesting.
- DirectorAlex LeMayQuestions of race, poverty, politics and religion hurdle towards each other in DESERT BAYOU, the story of 600 Hurricane Katrina evacuees who find themselves evacuated and deplaned from New Orleans and deposited into an isolated military installation in Utah. The lives of evacuees are undone; response from government officials, the military, local citizens and a Jewish rabbi astonish.2/9-Suprisingly interesting study of the experience of victims of Hurricane Katrina displaced and shifted to Utah. Alot of people trip of the racial aspect of this movie, but it was on point to me.
- DirectorErnest R. DickersonStarsOmar EppsTupac ShakurJermaine HopkinsFour inner-city teenagers get caught up in the pursuit of power and happiness, which they refer to as "the juice".2/8-I seen this movie too many times, even when it first came out back in '92. It was on one of those channels I got (I think ION) which shows all those "hood movies". Not a great movie, but it was really cool back then. Also, it started that "crazy black man with a gun" movie stereotype which would be repeated in Boyz N the Hood, Menace II Society and Strapped.
- DirectorJustin LinStarsVin DieselPaul WalkerDwayne JohnsonDominic Toretto and his crew of street racers plan a massive heist to buy their freedom while in the sights of a powerful Brazilian drug lord and a dangerous federal agent.3/17-Mindless action thriller, brings back the old gang from the original 2 installments of this series. Hard to believe this has lasted this long.Judging from the end, it looks like another one is in the works!
- DirectorAnthony DrazanStarsMichael RapaportDeShonn CastleKevin CorriganA white, hip-hop loving teen falls in love with a black girl.3/18-Golden age hip hop era movie that explored the ups and downs of interracial relationships. Saw it once before, but always enjoyed the soundtrack to this one.
- DirectorErik WhiteStarsShad MossBrandon T. JacksonNaturi NaughtonKevin Carson is a young man living in the projects who has to survive a three-day weekend after his opportunistic neighbors find out he's holding a winning lottery ticket worth $370 million.3/19-Already saw this, but I got sick so I watched it to get my mind of the sickness. I even have it on DVD!
- DirectorJohn SingletonStarsJanet JacksonTupac ShakurRegina KingGrieving hairdresser Justice goes on a road trip from South Central L.A. to Oakland on a mail truck alongside her friend and an obnoxious postal worker.3/20-Already saw this one many times before. Still trying to get over the sickness.
- DirectorBrett RatnerStarsEddie MurphyBen StillerCasey AffleckWhen a group of hard-working guys find out they've fallen victim to their wealthy employer's Ponzi scheme, they conspire to rob his high-rise residence.3/31-I had high hopes for this one. But, it was really bad. Despite the all star cast, which is part of the problem! An all star cast set to pull off a heist. Smells like Oceans 11, Takers, or even Fast 5? This movie wasn't even as good as these!
- DirectorMark FordStarsAlex AlonsoBart BartholomewCharlie BeckRevisits the riots in gripping detail and draws from a diverse collection of voices - the rappers, rioters, victims, police officers, journalists and everyday citizens of South Central Los Angeles.4/30-Superior documentary about the LA Riots that included lots of footage from that day. It doesn't glorify the violence, rather it shows the tension and chaos that was that day. Awesome.
- DirectorJohn SingletonStarsCuba Gooding Jr.Laurence FishburneHudhail Al-AmirFollows the lives of three young males living in the Crenshaw ghetto of Los Angeles, dissecting questions of race, relationships, violence, and future prospects.4/30-I just couldn't help it, I just had to watch this movie again! Seen it like 25 times, and I am just an addict. Or maybe it is because that is one of the movies in rotation on cable that I actually like. What is up with that?
- DirectorPaul Thomas AndersonStarsMark WahlbergJulianne MooreBurt ReynoldsBack when sex was safe, pleasure was a business and business was booming, an idealistic porn producer aspires to elevate his craft to an art when he discovers a hot young talent.5/3-Another movie I seen before that I ended up watching on cable, which shows the same movies over and over again. Wish there was more of a selection, get tired of watching the same old movies again and again.
- DirectorTom HanksStarsTom HanksJulia RobertsSarah MahoneyAfter losing his job, a middle-aged man reinvents himself by going back to college.5/6-Just what I wanted to see on a Sunday afternoon. Not sure what the purpose of making this movie was, but I really liked seeing Cedric the Entertainer role and Gugu Mbatha Raw was simply amazing as the young chick who helps Larry get his groove back. Not great, but not really that bad!
- DirectorTimothy Wayne FolsomeStarsMekhi PhiferMari MorrowMel JacksonDebbie and Howard are celebrating their wedding anniversary. Or so Debbie thought.6/28-This movie was terrible. I wouldn't recommend it to anybody. A terrible plot that seemed to be made up as they went along, and lots of nerve wrecking violence mixed with a bit of sadistic pleasure, like the makers got a kick out of it. Yuck.
- DirectorAlex KendrickStarsAlex KendrickKen BevelKevin DownesWhen a tragedy strikes close to home, four police officers struggle with their faith and their roles as husbands and fathers. Together they make a decision that will change all of their lives.7/1-This was an awesome Christian movie about being a good, God-fearing, upstanding man. Loved it. I wish there were more movies like this.
