Roger Moore as Bond.
An exhilarating thrill ride.
Nice tie-ins to "On her majesties secret service".
One of the greatest car chase scenes in movies to that point.
Genuine tension in the underwater scenes (cf. "Thunderball"). - DirectorLee TamahoriStarsPierce BrosnanHalle BerryRosamund PikeJames Bond is sent to investigate the connection between a North Korean terrorist and a diamond mogul, who is funding the development of an international space weapon.90%

22/21 (chronologically the first in Bond's story)
Daniel Craig as Bond.
Gritty.
Vesper Lynd is almost in the same league as Tracy di Vicenzo as a female character in the franchise.
No Q and no Moneypenny, fortunately.
Craig's series of movies is a good starting point for those new to the franchise, as they introduce Bond's backstory and principle lore. - DirectorGuy HamiltonStarsSean ConneryGert FröbeHonor BlackmanWhile investigating a gold magnate's smuggling, James Bond uncovers a plot to contaminate the Fort Knox gold reserve.85%
3/3
Sean Connery as Bond.
An ultimate Bond characterisation.
Charismatic.
Fun.
A man you'd want to hang around with or to be them!

Daniel Craig's final appearance as Bond.
If you want a coherent telling of the Bond story, Daniel Craig's turn as the character is bookended by quality outings. 17/16
Timothy Dalton as Bond.
A break from the formula.
Nasty.
Horrific.
If you took away the comic book elements from Dalton's time, his Bond movies would have stacked up better than most, but maybe at the time he seemed too 'serious'...a charge that looks like a compliment today. - DirectorJohn GlenStarsRoger MooreMaud AdamsLouis JourdanA fake Fabergé egg recovered from the body of a fellow agent leads James Bond to uncover a jewel smuggling operation led by the mysterious Octopussy, and a plot to blow up a NATO air base.80 - 85%
13a/13 Preceded the non-canonical "Never say never again" by a few months.
Roger Moore as Bond.
The best plot of any Bond movie, perhaps.
A very good Cold War story.
Genuine tension in some scenes...a rarity for the franchise.
Overlong though.
Does have some silly scenes, but they don't ruin it for me. - DirectorSam MendesStarsDaniel CraigJavier BardemNaomie HarrisJames Bond's loyalty to M is tested when her past comes back to haunt her. When MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.82.5+%
24/23
Daniel Craig as Bond.
Another more 'serious' Bond movie but, from memory, more laughs than Craig's debut in the role (Casino Royale). Notable for the extensive back-story given to the primary villain of the piece, Raoul Silva (played by Oscar winner Javier Bardem). I probably got the most laughs when Raoul introduces himself to Bond...somehow I don't think that Daniel Craig was acting uncomfortable in that scene!
I'm guessing - based on the ending - that the next instalments in this franchise may be straight out remakes of early Bond movies, like "Dr. No" or "On her majesty's secret service". In the case of early Connery movies as Bond, I'd welcome that, as they didn't seem modern...they might have even felt dated on release! - DirectorGuy HamiltonStarsRoger MooreChristopher LeeBritt EklandJames Bond is targeted by the world's most expensive assassin, while he attempts to recover sensitive solar cell technology that is being sold to the highest bidder.80%
9/9
Roger Moore as Bond.
A refreshing break from the Bond formula.
A nice boyish comic book type fantasy...as in:
"Who would win in a fight between the world's greatest spy and the world's greatest assassin?".
Has the most beautiful Bond woman to boot...Britt Ekland is stunning. - DirectorLewis GilbertStarsRoger MooreBarbara BachCurd JürgensJames Bond investigates the hijacking of British and Russian submarines carrying nuclear warheads, with the help of a K.G.B. agent whose lover he killed.80%

11/11
Roger Moore as Bond.
A bit of a one off reboot for the franchise.

16/15
Timothy Dalton as Bond.
Dalton's first Bond movie is more conventional than his next (and last turn) in the role.
Has more comic book elements to it then his next movie, unfortunately. - DirectorRoger SpottiswoodeStarsPierce BrosnanJonathan PryceMichelle YeohJames Bond sets out to stop a media mogul's plan to induce war between China and the UK in order to obtain exclusive global media coverage.77.5%

With a new threat dawning, Bond learns the terrible truth about the author of all his pain in his most recent missions.75%
25/24
Daniel Craig as Bond.
Neither a particularly good nor a particularly bad Bond movie. The fact that more of Bond's backstory is introduced as well as that of the main organisation working against him, makes this movie in a sense "important" to see. In fact, the Daniel Craig movies serve as a good chronoglogical introduction to the James Bond series, giving better context to the "Classic" era Bond movies of the previous actors who have played him. - DirectorMartin CampbellStarsPierce BrosnanSean BeanIzabella ScorupcoYears after a friend and fellow 00 agent is killed on a joint mission, a secret space based weapons program known as "GoldenEye" is stolen. 23/22
Daniel Craig as Bond.
Actually a superior Bond story with realistic evil schemes...just spoiled, unfortunately, by incoherent and pretentious cinematography and editing.
* Those flaws I mentioned above make it imperative to see this film SHORTLY after seeing it's predecessor, "Casino Royale", because otherwise the narrative thread between the two movies frays and this obscurity makes it a 60% kind of movie. - DirectorIrvin KershnerStarsSean ConneryKim BasingerKlaus Maria BrandauerA S.P.E.C.T.R.E. agent has stolen two American nuclear warheads, and James Bond must find their targets before they are detonated.70%
13b/13 Non-canonical film, released shortly after the canonical "Octopussy".
Sean Connery as Bond.
Works as an imagined finale to the career of Bond.
Connery's Bond movies never acknowledged the existence of any other actor's stints as Bond...so, this movie is the ideal farewell for Connery's sequence of Bond movies.
Whilst the new "Q" is a blessed relief from the nastiness which coloured the character in Moore's later Bond films, the new "M" just provides a new outlet for that unpleasantness. - DirectorTerence YoungStarsSean ConneryRobert ShawLotte LenyaJames Bond willingly falls into an assassination plot involving a naive Russian beauty in order to retrieve a Soviet encryption device that was stolen by S.P.E.C.T.R.E.70%
2/2
Sean Connery as Bond.
Connery finds his feet as Bond in this movie...he would nail the character in his next outing ("Goldfinger").
The Bond formula starts to crystalise in this movie.
One issue that I do have with this movie though is that I saw it again about a month after I saw it for the first time...on second viewing I would have called it a 60% movie. Also saw "Goldfinger" again in a similar time-frame...but that only increased my appreciation of it.
Saw early Bond movies more than once in order to do my formulaic reviews of them here...stopped doing that once I watched the later Bond movies with Moore et. al. Not sure how well some of the later movies would stack up on repeat viewing on a quick time-frame. - DirectorLewis GilbertStarsSean ConneryAkiko WakabayashiMie HamaJames Bond and the Japanese Secret Service must find and stop the true culprit of a series of space hijackings, before war is provoked between Russia and the United States.70%
5/5
Sean Connery as Bond.
Quite silly at times, but not as bad as "Diamonds are forever"...Bond impersonating a Japanese person? Fortunately he does a better job of it than Mickey Rooney actually playing an Asian character in "Breakfast at Tiffanys"...a truly awful moment in movies! - DirectorGuy HamiltonStarsSean ConneryJill St. JohnCharles GrayA diamond smuggling investigation leads James Bond to Las Vegas where he uncovers an evil plot involving a rich business tycoon.67.5%
7/7
Sean Connery as Bond.
It's 'interesting' as far as the henchmen go, but...
Undoubtedly one of the silliest Bond movies in the franchise.
Connery is ill-served by some appalling scenes which render him as a sort of British Bugs Bunny (e.g. the scene where he board's Blofeld's oil rig).
Seems to me as though the movie was based on the song. Pretty flimsy premise. - DirectorTerence YoungStarsSean ConneryClaudine AugerAdolfo CeliJames Bond heads to the Bahamas to recover two nuclear warheads stolen by S.P.E.C.T.R.E. Agent Emilio Largo in an international extortion scheme.65%
4/4
Sean Connery as Bond.
On a first time view, this movie was around 7.5 to 8/10 movie for me. However, watching this movie again about a month later, it really suffered for the very slow pacing of the underwater scenes...it's like a Jacques Cousteau marine travelogue! These scenes just drag on and on and the fight scenes here are just plain confusing...it's hard to tell who the good guys are and who the bad guys are.
"For your eyes only" really is an object lesson in how to shoot underwater scenes which are thrilling and tension filled. That movie only had a few characters underwater...so, less was more in that case.
"Never say never" is in some ways a reboot of "Thunderball". Fortunately, the emphasis on extended underwater scenes is dropped in that latter movie.
In a bad mood, I could easily give this film 6/10 for the sheer boredom of those underwater scenes. - DirectorJohn GlenStarsRoger MooreChristopher WalkenTanya RobertsThe recovery of a microchip from the body of a fellow British secret agent leads James Bond to a mad industrialist scheming to cause massive destruction.62.5%
15/14
Roger Moore as Bond.
Moore played Bond one too many times. By this stage he has lost all control of his facial expressions and comes across as a dirty old man in some scenes.
Principle villain is interesting and the principle henchperson becomes interesting...eventually. It's these two characters which bump up my score by 2.5%
Has some really cheesy, 1970s style US action/comedy scenes in it (like the fire-engine chase scene).
This might be the Bond movie where I actually fell asleep to it, when I rented it on VHS.
Managed to not fall asleep through it when I recently saw it as a part of a free to air network's Bond movie festival. - DirectorTerence YoungStarsSean ConneryUrsula AndressBernard LeeA resourceful British government agent seeks answers in a case involving the disappearance of a colleague and the disruption of the American space program.60%
1/1
Sean Connery as Bond.
Connery's characterisation of Bond changed practically every following movie he made. This, his first attempt at playing Bond, introduces a character we would not recognise as Bond. Bond is rather dry here. He would warm up in the next movie, "From Russia with love" and positively boil in "Goldfinger", before hitting room temperature with the silly "Diamonds are forever".
Not a typical Bond movie...not that that is necessarily a bad thing...it's just that it didn't really work for me in this movie. - DirectorGuy HamiltonStarsRoger MooreYaphet KottoJane SeymourJames Bond is sent to stop a diabolically brilliant heroin magnate armed with a complex organisation and a reliable psychic tarot card reader.60%
8/8
Roger Moore as Bond.
As dull as the dullest Connery turns in the role...but weighed down by a totally misjudged characterisation of Bond...his wardrobe is atrocious (powder blue suits!) and his manner is befitting a "Carry on..." movie.
An American character in this movie is also as annoying as "Jar Jar Binks" in the Star Wars prequels.
Perhaps has one of the silliest scenes in a Bond movie...his escape from an alligator infested island...but gee, the Bond franchise has many silly moments...even in Connery movies!
