- DirectorJim AbrahamsDavid ZuckerJerry ZuckerStarsRobert HaysJulie HagertyLeslie NielsenAfter the crew becomes sick with food poisoning, a neurotic ex-fighter pilot must safely land a commercial airplane full of passengers.I don't think anything has been made funnier than this...especially for those of us old enough to pick up on some contextural things like the coffee commercial spoofs & who Barbara Billingsly was!
- DirectorTerry GilliamTerry JonesStarsGraham ChapmanJohn CleeseEric IdleKing Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table embark on a surreal, low-budget search for the Holy Grail, encountering many, very silly obstacles.A very close second, this one had some of the most hilarious & quotable dialogue ever written!
- DirectorLeo McCareyStarsGroucho MarxHarpo MarxChico MarxRufus T. Firefly is named the dictator of bankrupt Freedonia and declares war on neighboring Sylvania over the love of his wealthy backer Mrs. Teasdale, contending with two inept spies who can't seem to keep straight which side they're on.To me, this is the Marx Brothers' best work and the truly funniest & zaniest film of the black & white era.
- DirectorDavid ZuckerStarsLeslie NielsenPriscilla PresleyO.J. SimpsonIncompetent police Detective Frank Drebin must foil an attempt to assassinate Queen Elizabeth II.While I think the 6 original Police Squad episodes were even funnier (and cleaner), this one was simply hilarious.
- DirectorMel BrooksStarsCleavon LittleGene WilderSlim PickensIn order to ruin a western town, a corrupt politician appoints a black Sheriff, who promptly becomes his most formidable adversary. This one is SO funny...just PLEASE don't edit the dialogue! The inherent racism of those people, who had to turn to a black sheriff for survival, is part of the joke!
- DirectorStanley KramerStarsSpencer TracyMilton BerleEthel MermanA group of motorists witnesses a car crash in the California desert, and after the driver's dying words indicate the location of a hidden stash of loot, they turn against each in a race across the state to get to it.A hilarious romp that features the most famous American comedians still living in 1963, this one is a true classic. Love Terri-Thomas in it!
- DirectorBlake EdwardsStarsPeter SellersHerbert LomBurt KwoukTo prove that he still is strong and powerful, Philippe Douvier decides to kill Clouseau. Once news of his "death" has been announced, Clouseau tries to take advantage of it and goes undercover with Cato to find out who tried to kill him.I think this is the most gut-splitting of the PP movies. (The original goes on that other list I mentioned). Dreyfuss giving Clouseau's eulogy is one of the funniest scenes on film.
- DirectorBlake EdwardsStarsPeter SellersHerbert LomLesley-Anne DownAfter escaping from an insane asylum, the bonkers Charles Dreyfus sends 26 assassins on the trail of the forever bumbling Inspector Clouseau. This one is almost as hilarious as the last. Sellers & Lom were SOO good & Blake Edwards was so deft in his timing!
- DirectorJerry ZuckerStarsBreckin MeyerAmy SmartWhoopi GoldbergA Las Vegas casino magnate determined to find a new avenue for wagering sets up a race for money.A tribute to my No. 6 film, this one is also simply hilarious. Like the other, it takes a few minutes to get going, but once it does...wow! It includes perhaps the Zuckers' best pun, dealing with a certain museum.
- DirectorArthur HillerStarsPeter FalkAlan ArkinRichard LibertiniOn the eve of their children's marriage, NYC in-laws Sheldon Kornpett and Vince Ricardo embark on a series of misadventures involving the CIA, the Treasury Department and Central American dictators.Falk & Arkin are incredible in this! It's much better than the remake!
