- DirectorMolly HermannStarsJames BaileyBill BoslegoClent BowersThe Star-Spangled Banner is known by all, treasured for its powerful melody and stirring lyrics. And yet, only about 40% of U.S. citizens know all the words. And even fewer know their meaning. Join us as we travel back to 1814, when Washington D.C. was under British attack during the "Second War of Independence," and the very bricks and mortar of American democracy were reduced to smoking rubble. We examine the battle that inspired witness Francis Scott Key to immortalize its final moments, then reveal how his poem transformed into an anthem. The American Presidents and the History of the United States

- DirectorJulie SimoneStarsPresley BarkerWayne C. HendersonKitty AmaralWinning over 20 awards on the festival circuit, FIDDLIN' had a nationwide U.S. theatrical event tour playing upwards of 50 markets and rocketed to the top of the iTunes Doc Charts upon release. Set in the Appalachian Mountains, FIDDLIN' is a foot-stomping celebration of true Americana profiling the birthplace of Bluegrass and Old-Time music. This hopeful, inspiring documentary shines a light on what is best about America. Filmed at the World's Oldest Fiddler's Convention, Fiddlin' shows the uplifting and healing power of music. With multi-generations jamming together and kids holding instruments instead of phones, it feels like taking a step back in time as we witness some off-the-charts pickin' and fiddlin'. There is an abundance of raw talent in FIDDLIN', with most talent playing by ear and certainly a number of stars in the making. Wayne Henderson, a world-renowned luthier known as the "guitar god," is a master craftsman and enthralling storyteller. Wayne's friendship with 11-year-old guitar prodigy, Presley Barker, shows how closely knit a community of musicians can be as even mentor and student compete against one another for that coveted blue ribbon. Phenomenal female talents, including Dori Freeman, Martha Spencer, Ivy Phillips and Kitty Amaral are all making their mark. They reveal the difficulties of women breaking into the bluegrass world. Karen Carr describes how music helped her overcome mental illness and saved her life. Sensational flat-foot dancing and some of the last known footage of Doc Watson visiting Wayne Henderson in his guitar shop are but a few topics in this rollicking documentary. Eddie Bond and Jon Lohman share little known history of the music origins and Jake Krack electrifies with his fiddle. These mountain musicians are determined to pass on their music and traditions with most claiming they will "play till the day they die". When the top 10 finalists are announced in the ultra-competitive guitar, we're in for an exciting finale. Sister filmmakers, Julie Simone and Vicki Vlasic, returned to their Appalachian roots to film FIDDLIN' at the Old Fiddlers' Convention for the first time in its 80 year history.Wikipedia: American fiddle.

Citizenship of the United States
Wikipedia: Citizenship of the United States. - It's estimated that there are 12 million undocumented immigrants living in the U.S. Millions of them were brought to the country as minors and graduated from American high schools. These self-proclaimed Dreamers advocate for the DREAM Act, legislation that would grant them a path to natural citizenship. Yet the DREAM Act has already failed in the Senate multiple times and the debate over immigration reform is only getting more heated. President Obama, a DREAM Act supporter, issued Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals this past summer. DACA applies to the same group of people, but does not grant them a path to legalization - only a two-year deportation reprieve with citizenship-like benefits, such as work papers and the opportunity to apply for driver's licenses and financial aid. The reprieve is renewable, though, if it does not get repealed. This documentary strives to inform the public about the issues surrounding immigration reform and DACA through the lens of two women at the forefront of the debate. Nataly is an undocumented immigrant from Ecuador who was taken across the border when she was 4-years-old. She's now 22, a student at Baruch College, and holds a full time job to pay for college. She's a DREAMer and considers America her home country. She's applied for deferred action in the hopes of receiving financial aid for school, work papers, and the option to apply for an advanced parole to travel back to Ecuador to visit her family. Joanna is the founder of NY ICE, the only anti-illegal immigration organization in New York City. She became passionate about the issue of illegal immigration after she was stalked by an undocumented immigrant. He threatened her with a gun and she went to INS in hopes of getting him deported. After INS refused her request she began to research the issue of illegal immigration further. When she found no advocacy group for her cause, she started her own. She believes in securing the borders, enforcing the immigration laws already on the books, and protesting further amnesties. These are two women, two activists, on different sides of the same fight.

- DirectorRoger WeisbergStarsJohn FugelsangIs the American Dream alive or dead? Political comedian John Fugelsang hits the road to find out in Dream On. This epic road trip retraces the journey of Alexis de Tocqueville, whose study of our young country in 1831 came to define America as a place where anyone, of any background, could climb the ladder of economic opportunity. Following in the Frenchman's footsteps, Fugelsang asks whether the optimistic spirit of the American Dream that Tocqueville popularized is alive and well in the twenty-first century, or whether George Carlin was right when he famously quipped, "It's called the American Dream because you have to be asleep to believe it." Dream On features stories of hard-working people trapped in poverty; senior citizens who have lost their pensions; blue collar workers whose jobs have disappeared; homeowners fighting foreclosure; once prosperous families struggling with hunger and homelessness; fast food workers fighting for a living wage; non-violent drug offenders in prison for decades; undocumented immigrants fighting deportation; low-income communities struggling with poverty-related disease; rust belt cities coping with deindustrialization; educators trying to reform our failing public schools; and social entrepreneurs designing new ways to reduce poverty. As countless Americans struggle with diminished prospects for the future, our core beliefs about the value of work, the inevitability of progress, the fairness of the system, and America's standing in the world are being shaken. After decades of rising income inequality and declining economic mobility, reviving the American Dream has become the defining issue of our time.

The collapse of the U.S. economy is the result of conscious choices made over thirty five years by a small group: leaders of corporations and their elected allies, and the biggest lobbying interest in Washington, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. To these individuals, the collapse is not a catastrophe, but rather the planned outcome of their long, patient work. All your dreams can come true." - Rick Danko - DirectorJennifer Siebel NewsomStarsKimberle CrenshawLinda Darling-HammondRuby De TieThe Great American Lie is a documentary film that examines how a US value system built on the extreme masculine ideals of money, power and control has glorified individualism, institutionalized inequality, and undermined the ability of most Americans to achieve the American Dream. The main topic of this film is arguably one of the most important issues of our time: social and economic immobility. Inequality has been on the rise in America for more than three decades. Middle and low income wages have remained stagnant or decreased while top earners have seen their wages increase 135% since 1979. Today, the top .1% of Americans owns almost as much wealth as the bottom 90%. This film is incredibly timely because of the staggering state of inequality today, but this film is also important because it is new. By bringing the unique perspective of gender to this story, this film expands the conversation around the causes and solutions to America's inequality and division. With our history and experience in illuminating and challenging limiting gender narratives in our society, our documentary team is uniquely qualified to tell this story. Our first two films, Miss Representation and The Mask You Live In, lay the groundwork for understanding the impact of gender on individuals and communities in American society. We view The Great American Lie as the critical last film in this trilogy that will address the role of our gendered values on American society-at-large.Abraham Lincoln quote: "Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration."

This eye-opening documentary will change your whole perception on what hunger looks like. In America today, one in six people, including hard-working men and women, suburban families and children are struggling with hunger. Tonight, over 50 million Americans won't have enough food to eat by day's end. The face of hunger in America is not just the homeless, like everyone thinks. - DirectorErin Mae MillerStarsArthur C. BrooksRobert DoarNazerine Griffin Jr.Compassion fueled the creation of America's welfare system, a safety net that rescues some of the most vulnerable among us. We often hear political leaders and activists tout the system's good intentions, but what about those living on welfare? Do they think the system is working? Have good intentions delivered good results? The safety net is ideally more of a trampoline, where people hit it and then bounce back onto their feet, and into rich, fulfilling lives. But today, instead of bouncing back, too many Americans have become ensnared in the net. Of course, the system has helped some people, but the sad fact is that it typically hurts those it's supposed to help. Viewers will experience the welfare system through the eyes of those who are stuck in it.
