365 Movies In a Year
I'm going to take Doug Bensons movie challenge to see 365 new movies (new to me) within 365 days. I'm starting on Dec 9th because starting Jan 1st is arbitrary. So I'll finish up Dec 9th 2016. Unless of course I get a life before then. You never know...

- DirectorJ.J. AbramsStarsDaisy RidleyJohn BoyegaOscar IsaacAs a new threat to the galaxy rises, Rey, a desert scavenger, and Finn, an ex-stormtrooper, must join Han Solo and Chewbacca to search for the one hope of restoring peace.Dec 20th. They got it right.
- DirectorAlex GibneyStarsPaul HaggisJason BegheSpanky TaylorA documentary looking at the inner-workings of the Church of Scientology.Dec 13th. This was pretty amazing. The world is a weird place.
- DirectorAndrew NiccolStarsEthan HawkeJanuary JonesZoë KravitzA family man begins to question the ethics of his job as a drone pilot.Dec 26th. Well shot, thought provoking movie about the use and misuse of drone strikes. Somewhat *beep* ending. I would recommend seeing this.
- DirectorChristopher McQuarrieStarsTom CruiseRebecca FergusonJeremy RennerEthan and his team take on their most impossible mission yet when they have to eradicate an international rogue organization as highly skilled as they are and committed to destroying the IMF.Dec 10th. Stupid but fun, like all the others in the franchise. Looked great.
- DirectorShane CarruthStarsAmy SeimetzFrank MosleyShane CarruthA man and woman are drawn together, entangled in the life cycle of an ageless organism. Identity becomes an illusion as they struggle to assemble the loose fragments of wrecked lives.Dec 23rd. Another weird movie from the guy who made Primer. This one had more direction, and had elements about it that were brilliant, but as a filmmaker I feel like he almost makes awesome movies but keeps just falling short.
- DirectorArne BirkenstockStarsWolfgang BeltracchiHelene BeltracchiHenrik HansteinA mesmerizing, thought-provoking yet surprisingly amusing documentary on the life and times of Wolfgang Beltracchi, who tricked the international art world for nearly 40 years by forging and selling paintings of early 20th-century masters. A larger-than-life personality who was responsible for the biggest art forgery scandal of the postwar era.Saw this Dec 9th. This guys life story is pretty amazing, but to be honest I'd recommend youtubing the 60 Minutes story about it first, as they did a better version of telling it. This doco was way too relaxed with getting to the point. Shot well though.
- DirectorRobert RossenStarsPaul NewmanJackie GleasonPiper LaurieAn up-and-coming pool player plays a long-time champion in a single high-stakes match.Dec 10th. Cool old movie. It's hard to take the pace of old movies sometimes, but this definitely had some cool moments. Pretty heavy on the melodrama though.
- DirectorShane CarruthStarsShane CarruthDavid SullivanCasey GoodenFour friends/fledgling entrepreneurs, knowing that there's something bigger and more innovative than the different error-checking devices they've built, wrestle over their new invention.Dec 10th. Confusing as *beep*. Almost awesome.
- DirectorGerald ThomasStarsSidney JamesKenneth WilliamsCharles HawtreyA group of tourists arrive at a half-finished hotel in Spain where the oddly identical staff and bad weather threaten the building's stability.Dec 26th. Was on Tv as part of a marathon. Saw a handful of these but this was the only one I didn't fall asleep through. Fun, in a mysoginistic, stupid, dated kind of a way. Oddly nostalgic for me, remember seeing some from this series as a kid.
- DirectorStephen FrearsStarsAnjelica HustonJohn CusackAnnette BeningA small-time conman has torn loyalties between his estranged mother and new girlfriend, both of whom are high-stakes grifters with their own angles to play.Dec 23rd. Was looking forward to seeing a movie about con artists, but was more of a character study about *beep* up incestuous greedy people. Had a confused sense of what era it was set in, the early nineties mixed with a noirish forties. Just never fully worked.
- DirectorJohn R. LeonettiStarsWard HortonAnnabelle WallisAlfre WoodardA couple begins to experience terrifying supernatural occurrences involving a vintage doll shortly after their home is invaded by satanic cultists.Dec 20th. Not as scary as I thought it would be, but it had some good moments. Biggest things going against it was it was hard to care about the characters involved, and it did a terrible job of representing the 60's.
- DirectorAaron HannMario MiscioneStarsAllegra MastersAimee McKayAshley KeyHeld captive and faced with their imminent executions, fifty strangers are forced to choose the one person among them who deserves to live.Dec 14th. Watchable, but barely. Not missing anything if you never see it.
