- DirectorJuan José CampanellaStarsRicardo DarínSoledad VillamilPablo RagoA retired legal counselor writes a novel hoping to find closure for one of his past unresolved homicide cases and for his unreciprocated love with his superior - both of which still haunt him decades later.Watch this one!
- DirectorBilly RayStarsChiwetel EjioforNicole KidmanJulia RobertsA tight-knit team of rising investigators, along with their supervisor, is suddenly torn apart when they discover that one of their own teenage daughters has been brutally murdered. This American remake got a 40% on Rotten Tomatoes. I applaud the fact that they tried to make some changes, including giving the lead to a woman, but there was no need to remake it. The Argentinian original is a masterpiece.
- DirectorPaul VerhoevenStarsArnold SchwarzeneggerSharon StoneMichael IronsideWhen a man goes in to have virtual vacation memories of the planet Mars implanted in his mind, an unexpected and harrowing series of events forces him to go to the planet for real - or is he?Yes, it does have some cheesy effects and silly moments, but it's much more entertaining and memorable than the remake.
- DirectorLen WisemanStarsColin FarrellBokeem WoodbineBryan CranstonA factory worker, Douglas Quaid, begins to suspect that he is a spy after visiting Rekall - a company that provides its clients with implanted fake memories of a life they would like to have led - goes wrong and he finds himself on the run.Admittedly, Colin Ferrell is a prettier, superior actor, but overall this movie just didn't make the grade. Totally forgetable.
- DirectorMasayuki SuôStarsKoji YakushoTamiyo KusakariNaoto TakenakaA successful but unhappy Japanese accountant finds the missing passion in his life when he begins to secretly take ballroom dance lessons. The original Japanese version is sweet and subtle and the story is better suited to the cultural mores of Japan.
- DirectorPeter ChelsomStarsRichard GereJennifer LopezSusan SarandonA romantic comedy where a bored, overworked Estate Lawyer, upon first sight of a beautiful instructor, signs up for ballroom dancing lessons.Americans have trouble with sweetness and subtlety. Feelings that were conveyed by glances are replaced by clumsy dialogue in this remake. This version feels a bit hokier. That may be your thing, but give the original a try.
- DirectorNiels Arden OplevStarsMichael NyqvistNoomi RapaceEwa FrölingA journalist is aided by a young female hacker in his search for the killer of a woman who has been dead for forty years. The Swedish original is very true to the book but not to a fault. The acting and the story are great and it's hard to find anything wrong with it. Plus, you get to enjoy the two films that follow: The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest.
- DirectorDavid FincherStarsDaniel CraigRooney MaraChristopher PlummerJournalist Mikael Blomkvist is aided in his search for a woman who has been missing for 40 years by young computer hacker Lisbeth Salander. The American remake is just as good as the original. It does tinker with the story a bit, notably the ending, but viewers will find it satisfying. It does feature a very attractive cast and the artistic direction gets extra points. Visually it is better than the Swedish one, but you really can't go wrong. Also, the Americans (as of Nov. 2015) have not made any of the sequels...
