- DirectorRoman PolanskiStarsJack MacGowranRoman PolanskiAlfie BassA noted professor and his dim-witted apprentice fall prey to their inquiring vampires, while on the trail of the ominous damsel in distress.Roman Polanski's brilliant Dracula spoof. Made Prior to "Rosemary's Baby" (1968) and "Chinatown" (1974) starring his beautiful wife Sharon Tate. Polanski himself plays the assistant to the nutty professor and vampire hunter. A curious mix of parody, comedy and actual horror. Especially when the vampire hunters mingle at the vampire ball in the castle's hall of mirrors. Imagine the point when they are the only ones reflected. Also with jewish, german, polish and homo sexual vampires.
- DirectorPaul MorrisseyStarsJoe DallesandroUdo KierVittorio De SicaAn ailing vampire count travels to Italy with his servant to find a bride.AKA Andy Warhol's Dracula. You must feel sorry for this Dracula who is gravely ill because of the lack of virgins in the seventies. Finally he comes upon an Italian family with a bunch of virgin daughters. The family's horny gardener however knows exactly how to keep them from danger.
- DirectorWerner HerzogStarsKlaus KinskiIsabelle AdjaniBruno GanzCount Dracula moves from Transylvania to Wismar, spreading the Black Plague across the land. Only a woman pure of heart can bring an end to his reign of horror.Director Werner Herzog paid his homage to the classic silent horror movie set in the Bulgarian town Varna. His film feels like walking in a constant nightmare. Things look cold and dirty. There isn't a lot of green, and it looks wet. Interiors are filmed in bold reds, browns and whites. Actor Klaus Kinski is made for the job. His make-up and body movement is simply trance-like, and stares you down. He's a scavenger, which goes after whatever he wants.
- DirectorKen RussellStarsAmanda DonohoeHugh GrantCatherine OxenbergWhen an archaeologist uncovers a strange skull in a foreign land, the residents of a nearby town begin to disappear, leading to further inexplicable occurrences.Odd movie supposedly based on a novel by Bram Stoker, LAIR OF THE WHITE WORM, seen as an exercise in high camp surrealism for British director Ken Russell. Trivia: starring two future Dr. Who Doctors and Hugh Grant.
- StarsBarry ClaytonJack MayBrian TruemanThe misadventures of a vegetarian vampire duck and his servants.British animation series, spin-off of Danger Mouse. The TV show is about Count Duckula, an egotistical vegetarian vampire duck who lives in a castle that can travel anywhere he wants to go. He lives with his servants: a large and stupid nanny who always has her arm in a sling, and Igor, his evil butler, who wants to turn his master to the dark side. No better way to introduce your kids to vampirism.
- DirectorLen WisemanStarsKate BeckinsaleScott SpeedmanShane BrollySelene, a vampire warrior, is entrenched in a conflict between vampires and werewolves, while falling in love with Michael, a human who is sought by werewolves for unknown reasons.First of the Underworld series with British first class actors Kate Beckinsale and Bill Nighy. Location of the story is a fantasy city in Eastern Europe. Format and storyline lean heavily on American vampire TV series: beautiful supernaturals fighting and snogging each other in gothic clothing and surroundings. Still worth seeing.
- DirectorTomas AlfredsonStarsKåre HedebrantLina LeanderssonPer RagnarOskar, an overlooked and bullied boy, finds love and revenge through Eli, a beautiful but peculiar girl.A beautiful but dark film. Like other Scandinavian movies this Swedish story about a vampire girl and a lonely human boy involves feelings of guilt and damnation alongside feelings of love and care. Set in the Stockholm suburb of Blackeberg in 1982.
- DirectorVincent LannooStarsCarlo FerranteVera Van DoorenPierre LognayBelgium's vampire community invites a documentary crew to film one of their families: husband, wife, and two teen children - Georges, Bertha, Sampson, and Grace. The teens have problems: Sampson wants to sleep with the community leader's wife (the only sexual taboo) and Grace wears pink and wants to be human. The family eats (they keep a young woman for snacks, and the police drop off immigrants for them), visits their community school, chats with a coffin maker, goes to parties, and looks down their nose at a childless vampire couple who live in their basement. We learn of the vampire code, forced exile in Canada, and the fate of Sampson and Grace.Weird "Mockumentary" about the vampire nuclear family. A film crew gets the green light to follow a family of vampires in a French Belgian's uber-exclusive Vamp community. After several attempts that ended with the crew being eaten a third crew manages to find a family with enough self control to allow the film to get made. The family is dysfunctional as hell, the politics of vampire society are complex and sensitive, and humans involved are nothing but meat. Interesting concept.
