- DirectorMartin CampbellStarsDaniel CraigEva GreenJudi DenchAfter earning 00 status and a licence to kill, secret agent James Bond sets out on his first mission as 007. Bond must defeat a private banker funding terrorists in a high-stakes game of poker at Casino Royale, Montenegro. The Bond reboot ends up being the best Bond has been ever? Amazing from top to bottom.
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsChristian BaleHugh JackmanScarlett JohanssonAfter a tragic accident, two stage magicians in 1890s London engage in a battle to create the ultimate illusion while sacrificing everything they have to outwit each other. My introduction to Christopher Nolan and boy did I fall in love with his film making! I didn't see Batman Begins before this so I had no idea who Nolan really was. After this I watched everything else of his, even his first movie Following which I enjoyed quite a lot too.
- DirectorDarren AronofskyStarsHugh JackmanRachel WeiszSean Patrick ThomasAs a modern-day scientist, Tommy is struggling with mortality, desperately searching for the medical breakthrough that will save the life of his cancer-stricken wife, Izzi.Honestly one of the most over looked movies of all time. It's Aronofsky's masterpiece by far. It's ambitious as hell and one of the most beautiful movies ever made. It's a shame it critically got destroyed and pretty much forgotten. It's got a strong fan base, but it's going to go down as a forgotten masterpiece.
- DirectorAlfonso CuarónStarsJulianne MooreClive OwenChiwetel EjioforIn 2027, in a chaotic world in which women have somehow become infertile, a former activist agrees to help transport a miraculously pregnant woman to a sanctuary at sea.One of the most unique theater experiences I have ever witnessed. The long take shots of action scenes really get you into the setting and you feel like you're actually there. Cuaron is brilliant and I will watch every one of his movies he makes until he quits.
- DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsLeonardo DiCaprioMatt DamonJack NicholsonAn undercover cop and a mole in the police attempt to identify each other while infiltrating an Irish gang in South Boston.A masterfully crafted movie by Scorsese. Not his crown jewel, but still a really good crime drama.
- DirectorMichael MannStarsColin FarrellJamie FoxxGong LiBased on the 1980s TV action/drama, this update focuses on vice detectives Crockett and Tubbs as their respective personal and professional lives become dangerously intertwined.I love most of Michael Mann's movies. Heat and Collateral are easily in my top 50 movies of all time. I enjoyed this one quite a lot, though it's not as strong as those other two movies. It's got his signature grainy cinematography and he capture Miami like no other movie. It's essentially a movie remake of the 80's TV shows pilot episode. It may be an unpopular opinion, but I enjoy the hell out of this. It's a shame everything since this of Mann's has been abysmal.
- DirectorJames McTeigueStarsHugo WeavingNatalie PortmanRupert GravesIn a future British dystopian society, a shadowy freedom fighter, known only by the alias of "V", plots to overthrow the tyrannical government - with the help of a young woman.A fantastic adaptation of Alan Moore's classic graphic novel. Don't go in expecting much action as this is NOT an action movie. It's a drama with a few spurts of action as it was produced by the Wachowskis. The director unfortunately went on to make some not so good movies afterwards, but this one he really did a good job crafting.
- DirectorMarc ForsterStarsWill FerrellEmma ThompsonDustin HoffmanI.R.S. auditor Harold Crick suddenly finds his mundane Chicago life to be the subject of narration only he can hear: narration that begins to affect his entire existence, from his work to his love life to his death.I haven't seen it in a while, but I remember enjoying the concept of this movie a lot. The ending was kind of predictable and cliché, but this is a romantic movie that anyone can enjoy. It's THE ONLY time I've liked Will Ferrell in a movie...EVER
- DirectorPaul McGuiganStarsJosh HartnettBen KingsleyMorgan FreemanA case of mistaken identity lands Slevin into the middle of a war being plotted by two of the city's most rival crime bosses. Under constant surveillance by Detective Brikowski and assassin Goodkat, he must get them before they get him.Haven't seen this one in a long time either, probably since theaters but my teenage self loved the hell out of it. It's another that has been long forgotten, but I remember it actually being a cool slick crime thriller. I'll have to pop the DVD in again some time soon!
- DirectorJonathan DaytonValerie FarisStarsSteve CarellToni ColletteGreg KinnearA family determined to get their young daughter into the finals of a beauty pageant take a cross-country trip in their VW bus.One of my first "indie" movies I had seen and I fell in love with it when it came out. I was so obsessed with it all that I remember listening to he soundtrack non-stop. I've seen it a few times recently, and while it's still good, the indie charm has kind of worn off on me as I've seen movies that do it better.
