- DirectorStanley KubrickStarsKeir DulleaGary LockwoodWilliam SylvesterAfter uncovering a mysterious artifact buried beneath the Lunar surface, a spacecraft is sent to Jupiter to find its origins: a spacecraft manned by two men and the supercomputer HAL 9000.First and foremost, Kubrick is a God. "2001" is Visually and intellectually outstanding. It kinda ruined Sci-Fi for everyone though. Has there ever been another philosophical Sci-Fi movie like this? A good one? Of course not, and there never will be.
- DirectorStanley KubrickStarsMalcolm McDowellPatrick MageeMichael BatesIn the future, a sadistic gang leader is imprisoned and volunteers for a conduct-aversion experiment, but it doesn't go as planned.A disturbingly interesting ride from the creepy opening, to the iconic final line. We are shown how messed up Alex is. He rapes women to Gene Kelly songs, and murders them with giant penis sculptures. He understands "sin," but finds it much more sinful to use Beethoven's music in inappropriate situations than to kill people. Yet somehow, we end up feeling bad for the kid. Its filmed a little more...stylized than Kubrick's other films. There's alot of unique camera angels, and some cool use of lighting. Along with techniques we are not used to seeing in Kubrick movies.
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsHaley Joel OsmentJude LawFrances O'ConnorA highly advanced robotic boy longs to become "real" so that he can regain the love of his human mother. While I consider Kubrick the greatest director, I would say Spielberg would be my favorite. He's just made so many movies that I love. A.I has a little input both of these geniuses. A rare example of a movie that can wreck you emotionally and stimulate you mentally. People complain about the ending, but I love it. It can be happy, sad, bleak, etc. depending on how you interpret it. It's visually, and audibly beautiful with great performances all around, especially from Jude Law.
- DirectorJim AbrahamsDavid ZuckerJerry ZuckerStarsRobert HaysJulie HagertyLeslie NielsenAfter the crew becomes sick with food poisoning, a neurotic ex-fighter pilot must safely land a commercial airplane full of passengers.Do I really need to explain Airplane!? You know Leon is getting larger, Lloyd Bridges picked the wrong day to quit smoking, and people call Leslie Nielson Shirley no matter how many times he tells them to stop.
- DirectorRon ClementsJohn MuskerStarsScott WeingerRobin WilliamsLinda LarkinA kind-hearted street urchin and a power-hungry Grand Vizier vie for a magic lamp that has the power to make their deepest wishes come true.Robin Williams and Disney. Two giants of my childhood. Obviously, my childhood isn't over, because these two things are just as prominent now as when I was 5. Disney movies have always been able to play with my emotions, and I find Robin Williams to be the funniest person ever. One of the gems of the Disney Renaissance.
- DirectorJames CameronStarsSigourney WeaverMichael BiehnCarrie HennDecades after surviving the Nostromo incident, Ellen Ripley is sent out to re-establish contact with a terraforming colony but finds herself battling the Alien Queen and her offspring. While Alien was a slow, tension building horror movie, its sequel was a fast, in your face action thriller. The characters are great, the memorable quotes are endless, and the suspense is non-stop. I prefer this to the original for a few reasons. The only characters we really cared about at all in Alien were Ripley, and the cat. So, every character who died didn't really get any response out of me. Aliens makes you feel attached to the characters right from the start. Suspense is inevitable from then on. Also, this is far more re watchable than Alien, which is very important to me. If only the series ended here...
- DirectorSam MendesStarsKevin SpaceyAnnette BeningThora BirchA sexually frustrated suburban father has a mid-life crisis after becoming infatuated with his daughter's best friend.
- DirectorMary HarronStarsChristian BaleJustin TherouxJosh LucasA wealthy New York City investment banking executive, Patrick Bateman, hides his alternate psychopathic ego from his co-workers and friends as he delves deeper into his violent, hedonistic fantasies.
- DirectorMilos FormanStarsF. Murray AbrahamTom HulceElizabeth BerridgeThe life, success and troubles of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, as told by Antonio Salieri, the contemporaneous composer who was deeply jealous of Mozart's talent and claimed to have murdered him.Milos Foreman is known for his 2 Best Picture winners. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest has become more iconic, I like Amadeus more. Tom Hulce was so unbelievably fantastic as Mozart, I kinda feel bad his performance was so overshadowed by F. Murray Abraham's Oscar Winning portrayal of Salieri. The script is very thought provoking, and in my case, I found myself feeling bad for the villain, because I totally understood the motives behind all his actions. That's a scary thought. The movie looked ravishing, the use of Mozart's music was perfect, and the 3 hours fly by every time I watch it. Rock me Amadeus.
- DirectorWoody AllenStarsWoody AllenDiane KeatonTony RobertsAlvy Singer, a divorced Jewish comedian, reflects on his relationship with ex-lover Annie Hall, an aspiring nightclub singer, which ended abruptly just like his previous marriages.A hilarious romantic comedy. They are rare, but exist nonetheless. We learn about life and love along with Alvy Singer, and mainly his relationship with the title character, played wonderfully by Diane Keaton. We all view love differently, but the one constant is that all of us "need the eggs." The movie is also another chance for Woody Allen to brag about how great New York is, while bashing Los Angeles.
- DirectorSam RaimiStarsBruce CampbellEmbeth DavidtzMarcus GilbertWhen Ash Williams is accidentally transported to 1300 A.D., he must retrieve the Necronomicon and battle an army of the dead in order to return home.Stupid premise, corny script, cheesy acting, silly special effects. These all sound like negative criticisms about a movie...but not for a Sam Raimi movie. I don't know how he does it. Army of Darkness could have been the worst movie ever if handled by someone else, but with Raimi, its one of the most quotable movies of all time, while successfully combining laughs and thrills. Hail to the King, Baby.
- DirectorRobert ZemeckisStarsMichael J. FoxChristopher LloydLea ThompsonMarty McFly, a 17-year-old high school student, is accidentally sent 30 years into the past in a time-traveling DeLorean invented by his close friend, the maverick scientist Doc Brown.Another movie where there really isn't much to say. It's one of the most entertaining movies ever made, with one of the all time great performances by one of my favorite actors, Christopher Lloyd. Robert Zemeckis may be very hit and miss, but when he hits, you're gonna see some serious sh*t.
- DirectorTim BurtonStarsMichael KeatonJack NicholsonKim BasingerThe Dark Knight of Gotham City begins his war on crime with his first major enemy being Jack Napier, a criminal who becomes the clownishly homicidal Joker.Remember when Tim Burton was good, and Michael Keaton had a career? Ahh, those were the days....The Caped Crusader's first serious theatrical movie was a great success critically and financially. Jack Nicholson played a very fun version of The Joker, while I think Michael Keaton remains to this day the best big screen Batman.
- DirectorGary TrousdaleKirk WiseStarsPaige O'HaraRobby BensonJesse CortiA prince cursed to spend his days as a hideous monster sets out to regain his humanity by earning a young woman's love.I consider this Disney's best movie, and the greatest animated film ever. Everything is just perfect. The songs are catchy and fun, the characters are lovable, the pacing is perfect, the score is powerful, and the animation is beautiful. Belle is just amazing. She's not some clueless spoiled brat who wants to find her "Prince Charming" and live happily ever after. She is an independent, intelligent young woman who doesn't care what people think of her. Belle just wants a little more out of her boring life, she just doesn't quite know what that is. I also love the villain, Gaston. In the beginning, he really isn't a villain. He's just very conceited. However, he isn't used to rejection, so the longer he goes without getting what he wants (Belle) the more crazy and evil he becomes. I could go on forever about this movie. Its perfect.
- DirectorTim BurtonStarsAlec BaldwinGeena DavisMichael KeatonThe spirits of a deceased couple are harassed by an unbearable family that has moved into their home, and hire a malicious spirit to drive them out.Remember when Tim Burton was good, and Michael Keaton had a career? Remember the first time I used that sentence? Beetlejuice pretty much summarizes all that is Tim Burton. Dark, quirky, funny, scary, pretty, Danny Elfman. Pretty much all of Tim Burton's genius is shown in this movie, and Michael Keaton's iconic performance goes without mentioning. Other things to enjoy: Winona Ryder flying, Harry Belafonte music, anorexic Alec Baldwin, and head shrinking voodoo.
- DirectorMike NicholsStarsRobin WilliamsNathan LaneGene HackmanA gay cabaret owner and his drag queen companion agree to put up a false straight front so that their son can introduce them to his fiancée's right-wing moralistic parents. This has to have the best cast ever in a comedy. Literally every performance was perfect. I would go through the list, but I would get redundant by saying "perfect" or "hilarious" for each actor. One of the funniest movies I've ever seen. Seriously though, how could Robin Williams and Nathan Lane as a gay couple POSSIBLY go wrong?
- DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsRod TaylorTippi HedrenJessica TandyA wealthy San Francisco socialite pursues a potential boyfriend to a small Northern California town that slowly takes a turn for the bizarre when birds of all kinds suddenly begin to attack people. How good can a movie about killer birds really be? Apparently, fantastic. Is the movie scary? Not necessarily, but Hitchcock is the Master of Suspense, not the Master of Horror, and this movie helps prove he deserves that title. He also knows how to end his movies. This had one of his more unique endings.
- DirectorRoman PolanskiStarsHugh GrantKristin Scott ThomasEmmanuelle SeignerAfter hearing stories of her, a passenger on a cruise ship develops an irresistible infatuation with an eccentric paraplegic's wife.I've noticed that I like movies about crazy bad relationships. I also love Polanski, and unfathomable hot french women. This has a plethora of all 3.
- DirectorMel BrooksStarsCleavon LittleGene WilderSlim PickensIn order to ruin a western town, a corrupt politician appoints a black Sheriff, who promptly becomes his most formidable adversary.Mel Brooks. My favorite comedy director. He has no limits, shame, and he wont hold back. Blazing Saddles is one of his masterpieces from 1974. You really can't go wrong with Gene Wilder and Madeline Kahn in your movie, but the performances were hilarious all around. Even from a Detroit Lions defensive lineman.
- DirectorDavid LynchStarsIsabella RosselliniKyle MacLachlanDennis HopperThe discovery of a severed human ear found in a field leads a young man on an investigation related to a beautiful, mysterious nightclub singer and a group of psychopathic criminals who have kidnapped her child.Oh David Lynch, please come back. How I miss you. The guy is the master of setting the tone in a movie. Whether its eerily creepy like Eraserhead, or just...slightly off like in Blue Velvet. How one can create a "slightly off" tone is beyond me, but Lynch does it. I love how he can add so much to the story by playing the right popular songs. And honestly, this movie was the best thing that ever happened to Pabst Blue Ribbon.
- DirectorRoman PolanskiStarsJack NicholsonFaye DunawayJohn HustonA private detective hired to expose an adulterer in 1930s Los Angeles finds himself caught up in a web of deceit, corruption, and murder.Roman Polanski's last movie before he turned to pedophilia. Also, probably the movie that really skyrocketed Jack Nicholson's career. The script is very clever, with some really shocking moments. Especially that ending...
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsRichard DreyfussFrançois TruffautTeri GarrRoy Neary, an Indiana electric lineman, finds his quiet and ordinary daily life turned upside down after a close encounter with a UFO, spurring him to an obsessed cross-country quest for answers as a momentous event approaches. The most Spielbergian Spielberg movie. It has all the trademarks. Suburbs, troubled father relationship, aliens, John Williams music, lens flare, Richard Dreyfuss etc. Dreyfuss is fantastic as always, playing the same character he always does. The visuals are amazing, but thats expected from Spielberg, and those 5 musical notes are forever etched into my mind.
- DirectorJonathan LynnStarsEileen BrennanTim CurryMadeline KahnSix guests are anonymously invited to a strange mansion for dinner, but after their host is killed, they must cooperate with the staff to identify the murderer as the bodies pile up.A movie based on my favorite board game, with my favorite actor (Christopher Lloyd) and my favorite actress (Madeline Kahn). There was no chance in my not liking it. Its such a zany murder mystery with an amazingly talented, diverse cast led by Tim Curry. Mrs. White has emerged as my favorite character, every time she makes a noise it is hilarious. Clue is just as great with each viewing, and I always notice a new line every time. Some lines have found my way into my everyday dialogue, such as: "I didnt do it!" "Flames...on the side of my face...." "Too late" and "I'm not shouting....ok, Im shouting. I'm shouting, I'm shouting"
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsChristian BaleHeath LedgerAaron EckhartWhen the menace known as the Joker wreaks havoc and chaos on the people of Gotham, Batman must accept one of the greatest psychological and physical tests of his ability to fight injustice.I'd put this as the greatest superhero movie ever. A gritty crime drama with intense performances and furious suspense....and Batman. Heath Ledger as the Joker has became an instant icon. Christopher Nolan is the best young director working today. I'm excited for the rest of his career.
- DirectorLeo McCareyStarsGroucho MarxHarpo MarxChico MarxRufus T. Firefly is named the dictator of bankrupt Freedonia and declares war on neighboring Sylvania over the love of his wealthy backer Mrs. Teasdale, contending with two inept spies who can't seem to keep straight which side they're on.At 66 minutes long, this may have the highest laugh-per-minute ratio of any movie. This is the Marx Brothers' Masterpiece. So many great scenes and one-liners. There's not much more to say. It's just hilarious.
- DirectorMark DindalStarsDavid SpadeJohn GoodmanEartha KittEmperor Kuzco is turned into a llama by his ex-administrator Yzma, and must now regain his throne with the help of Pacha, the gentle llama herder.I love Disney, can't you tell? This is by far the funniest movie they ever made. It's like a Howard Hawks screwball comedy done by Disney. John Goodman and David Spade make a fantastic team, as do Patrick Waterburn and Eartha Kitt. Every joke hits its mark, and sometimes its surprising how clever this movie is. Now, pull the lever Kronk...WRONG LEVERRR!!!!!
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsHenry ThomasDrew BarrymorePeter CoyoteA troubled child summons the courage to help a friendly alien escape from Earth and return to his home planet.Probably my favorite Spielberg movie, which is saying something. The entire movie is controlled by children and and alien, and its just perfect in every way. Funny, sad, touching, thrilling, and John Williams' score is arguably the greatest in film history, and without a doubt the most emotional. The entire movie is filmed lower than normal, to give the viewer the point of view of a child. Nobody but Spielberg would even think of something like that. There are so many great scenes, quotes, and even iconic shots, that this movie has become one of the most beloved of all time, and with good reason.
- DirectorStanley KubrickStarsTom CruiseNicole KidmanTodd FieldA Manhattan doctor embarks on a bizarre, night-long odyssey after his wife's admission of unfulfilled longing.Kubrick's last film, and the one that got him killed by the Illuminati. What is it even about? It could be a lot of things, so interpret it how you'd like. Most of the movie's power takes place beneath the surface. The importance of sex, dreams, the Illuminati, all are explored. However, the movie isn't exactly a difficult watch because of this. It's a very haunting, atmospheric movie. The music is eerie, the acting is unique to its material, and the whole movie just feels so mysterious. One of my favorite Kubrick movies to re-watch, and probably my second-favorite of his.
- DirectorWes AndersonStarsGeorge ClooneyMeryl StreepBill MurrayAn urbane fox cannot resist returning to his farm raiding ways and then must help his community survive the farmers' retaliation. What a surprise this movie was. I usually hate stop-motion, but this is my exception. Dialogue is key in this movie, and this has some of the most clever dialogue I've ever heard. Probably in my top 10, but explaining why is a very difficult thing to do. It's like a food you love. You can't really explain in detail why you like it so much, you just do.
- DirectorAndrew StantonLee UnkrichStarsAlbert BrooksEllen DeGeneresAlexander GouldAfter his son is captured in the Great Barrier Reef and taken to Sydney, a timid clownfish sets out on a journey to bring him home.Anyone who knows me knows that I prefer Disney Animated to Pixar...so much so, that people seem to forget that I am a huge Pixar fan. I liked them better when they focused more on jokes and less on artistic merit. Animated movies should be focused on entertaining audiences of all ages above all. That being said, this is arguably my favorite Pixar movie. The animation is beautiful, but that is far overshadowed by how hilarious this movie is. It leaves an impact without any traces of trying too hard.
- DirectorAndrew DavisStarsHarrison FordTommy Lee JonesSela WardDr. Richard Kimble, unjustly accused of murdering his wife, must find the real killer while being the target of a nationwide manhunt led by a seasoned U.S. Marshal. An entire TV series condensed into one movie. Sounds like a bad idea, but alas, it worked perfectly. Tommy Lee Jones give the performance of a career, and got an Oscar for it. The action is great, the suspense is non-stop, and there is no lack of surprises.
- DirectorStanley KubrickStarsMatthew ModineR. Lee ErmeyVincent D'OnofrioA pragmatic U.S. Marine observes the dehumanizing effects the Vietnam War has on his fellow recruits from their brutal boot camp training to the bloody street fighting in Hue.A movie that is always critiqued as a 2 part film. The first half is undeniable amazing. Private Pyle's descent into insanity is perfect, and R. Lee Ermey is entertaining as hell. Now, with both of those characters gone in the second half, it still manages to be great. The entire sniper scene was amazing. The most "normal" Kubrick movie made post-1968. Still, its something only Kubrick could have made.
- DirectorIvan ReitmanStarsBill MurrayDan AykroydSigourney WeaverThree parapsychologists forced out of their university funding set up shop as a unique ghost removal service in New York City, attracting frightened yet skeptical customers.Who you gonna call?
- DirectorFrancis Ford CoppolaStarsMarlon BrandoAl PacinoJames CaanThe aging patriarch of an organized crime dynasty transfers control of his clandestine empire to his reluctant son.One of the greatest movies of all time. The greatest cast ever put together, some of the greatest characters ever created, and one of the most identifiable visual styles in film history. There are too many classic scenes to count, and has as many iconic lines as Hamlet. I don't even need to say anything, you all know why this movie is here.
- DirectorFrancis Ford CoppolaStarsAl PacinoRobert De NiroRobert DuvallThe early life and career of Vito Corleone in 1920s New York City is portrayed, while his son, Michael, expands and tightens his grip on the family crime syndicate.I can't pick between the original and this one. Everything I said about the original also applies as an explanation of this one. However, this was like having 2 great movies mushed into one. Probably the greatest sequel of all time. Not many sequels even come close.
- DirectorDavid FincherStarsBen AffleckRosamund PikeNeil Patrick HarrisWith his wife's disappearance having become the focus of an intense media circus, a man sees the spotlight turned on him when it's suspected that he may not be innocent.
- DirectorRobert WiseStarsJulie HarrisClaire BloomRichard JohnsonHill House has stood for about 90 years and appears haunted: its inhabitants have always met strange, tragic ends. Now Dr. John Markway has assembled a team of people who he thinks will prove whether or not the house is haunted. The Shining is my favorite horror movie, but its for more reasons than the "horror" element. I actually think that no movie is more "horrific" than The Haunting. I am never scared in movies, but this one got me. Everything was directed to perfection by the disturbingly versatile Robert Wise (The Day the Earth Stood Still, The Sound of Music). Every horror movie tries to build tension like The Haunting, but they can't no matter what. It even managed to have a perfect "jump-scare." Most jump scares are not effective because while tension is building, you expect a pop-out. In this movie, you never would have guessed that a jump-scare was on the way. Watching Eleanor get consumed by this mansion was a subtle, psychologically terrifying thing to watch. This is the epitome of Hollywood horror movies.
- DirectorMichael LehmannStarsWinona RyderChristian SlaterShannen DohertyAt Westerburg High where cliques rule, jocks dominate and all the popular girls are named Heather, it's going to take a Veronica and mysterious new kid to give teen angst a body count.
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsDustin HoffmanRobin WilliamsJulia RobertsWhen Captain James Hook kidnaps his children, an adult Peter Pan must return to Neverland and reclaim his youthful spirit in order to challenge his old enemy.Often considered Spielberg's worst. I'll never understand that. Okay, maybe the Lost Boys were annoying, and Julia Roberts was a horrible Tinkerbell. However, Dustin Hoffman, Robin Williams, and Bob Hoskins did amazing in their parts, and John Williams composed one of the best scores of his career. The sets are elaborate, and the cinematography is beautiful. Maybe Spielberg turns on the schmaltz a little high, but you know what, it worked for me. I always feel so much better after watching this movie, and I wouldn't want it any different. Also, there is a cameo from my favorite musician, Phil Collins. BANGARANG!!!
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsHarrison FordSean ConneryAlison DoodyIn 1938, after his father goes missing while pursuing the Holy Grail, Indiana Jones finds himself up against the Nazis again to stop them from obtaining its powers. My favorite of the Indy movies. It has everything you would ever want in an action-adventure. Thrills, suspense, laughs, shock, and Hitler. I loved seeing young Indy at the beginning (a precursor to the TV show). The ending with the booby trapped cave was also very interesting, and a great homage to the beginning of the series. Also, Sean Connery.
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsHarrison FordKate CapshawKe Huy QuanIn 1935, Indiana Jones is tasked by Indian villagers with reclaiming a rock stolen from them by a secret cult beneath the catacombs of an ancient palace.I seem to like this movie more than most people do. I liked Short Round and Willie. So suck it. The opening was really cool, even the "Anything Goes" sequence. This was a lot darker than the other 3 movies, and I loved that about it. If a fifth movie is made, I'd like to see them try something like "Temple of Doom" again.
- DirectorJohn CarpenterStarsSam NeillJürgen ProchnowJulie CarmenAn insurance investigator begins discovering that the impact a horror writer's books have on his fans is more than inspirational.
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsRoy ScheiderRobert ShawRichard DreyfussWhen a killer shark unleashes chaos on a beach community off Cape Cod, it's up to a local sheriff, a marine biologist, and an old seafarer to hunt the beast down. The first blockbuster continues to be among the best. So much in this movie is timeless, from characters, to scenes, to quotes, to music. There is no way to pace a movie better than this, with no time wasted, nor rushed. Shaw, Scheider, and Dreyfuss become one of the best trio's in movie history. How can you not love them?
- DirectorCameron CroweStarsTom CruiseCuba Gooding Jr.Renée ZellwegerWhen a sports agent has a moral epiphany and is fired for expressing it, he decides to put his new philosophy to the test as an independent agent with the only athlete who stays with him and his former colleague.Cameron Crowe is one of the best dialogue writers in my opinion. Most writers with a style like this say so many words but never actually say anything. Crowe says what he needs in a witty, realistic way. Jerry Maguire is his best in my opinion. One of the most quotable movies in my life, and many unforgettable characters.
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsSam NeillLaura DernJeff GoldblumA pragmatic paleontologist touring an almost complete theme park on an island in Central America is tasked with protecting a couple of kids after a power failure causes the park's cloned dinosaurs to run loose. This movie just doesn't get old. I could watch it anytime, no matter what my mood is. The characters are all so memorable, and the fun is endless. So what it is arguably the most mindless Spielberg movie, he does mindless action movies better than anyone other than arguably James Cameron. Now that-that's chaos theory.
- DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsWillem DafoeHarvey KeitelBarbara HersheyThe life of Jesus Christ, his journey through life as he faces the struggles all humans do, and his final temptation on the cross.I wish there were more epic Jesus movies like this and The Passion of the Christ. Last Temptation however, had a story drastically different from what's in the Bible. There is really no way to even prepare yourself for this movie, you expect things to be different from the original story, but could never predict anything that happens. Martin Scorsese is known for making thematically thought-provoking movies, and this may be his deepest one, up there with Taxi Driver. I love how it was written in modern English, so you feel so much more connected with these historical figures like Jesus and Judas and David Bowie...I mean Pontius Pilate. This movie is able to tackle a lot of touchy subjects, and give you so many ways to look at them, so you can spend forever with an internal debate about them. Its brilliantly directed, but that is a given with Marty. It was strange to see Willem Dafoe have the lead role in a movie, especially one as big as Jesus, but he does just as great as usual, and this may be my favorite performance of his. The score was also wonderful, and one of the biggest surprises of the movie for me was finding out it was Peter Gabriel who composed it. All in all, an underrated masterpiece.
- DirectorClyde GeronimiJack KinneyStarsBing CrosbyBilly BletcherPinto ColvigIn a small town, a brewing romantic rivalry with a local tough and a school-teacher culminates in a terrifying ride in the night.I don't care that its 45 minutes long, it is brilliant. This is the best adaptation of my favorite story. Bing Crosby narrates the whole thing by himself, and sings every song. I have no idea why this idea worked, but it did. It managed to be fun and creepy, and had no problem transitioning between the two. Plus The Brom Bones Headless Horseman Song is one of my favorite Disney songs. This is a must watch around every Halloween.
- DirectorRichard DonnerStarsMel GibsonDanny GloverJoe PesciRiggs and Murtaugh are on the trail of South African diplomats who are using their immunity to engage in criminal activities.I have the biggest man crush on Mel Gibson...God is he beautiful...and a...yea, Lethal Weapon 2 is my faovrite of the series. Murtaugh and Riggs are my favorite film duo ever, so I am a huge fan of the series. The second one also adds Joe Pesci for more comedic affect. It blended comedy/action best of the 4 movies, and most of my memorable moments in the series are from this one.
- DirectorRoger AllersRob MinkoffStarsMatthew BroderickJeremy IronsJames Earl JonesLion prince Simba and his father are targeted by his bitter uncle, who wants to ascend the throne himself. This is the last Disney renaissance masterpiece. There we other good ones (Hercules, Mulan, Tarzan) but none could return to the 1989-1994 greatness. Hamlet with big cats was the biggest animated movie ever, and it made perfect sense. A sophisticated, powerful story with talented voice actors and beautiful music from Elton John, Tim Rice, and Hans Zimmer. My second favorite Disney movie after Beauty and the Beast.
- DirectorStanley KubrickStarsJames MasonShelley WintersSue LyonA middle-aged college professor becomes infatuated with a 14-year-old girl.My biggest reasons for loving this movie are personal... Anyway, here we have a very cleverly put together movie. It is funny, tragic and "romantic" (however you wanna define that). James Mason was fantastic fantastic and Humbert Humbert, and Peter Sellers was great as usual playing half the cast. Sue Lyon, however, is the heart of the movie. Humbert may be who the story is about, but the lasting impact of the movie relies on her. Your opinion of characters that are not her is influenced by her. Look at Sue Lyon, does she look 14? Do you blame Humbert for being physically attracted to her? This is not really a movie to discuss in a group, because there are no good opinions going around the conversation . You should not feel bad for Humbert at all, but there are so many reasons to have some sympathy for the guy. Is Lolita to blame? It's a "touchy" movie to say the least. And one of my favorites.
- DirectorWoody AllenStarsWoody AllenDiane KeatonGeorges AdetIn czarist Russia, a neurotic soldier and his distant cousin formulate a plot to assassinate Napoleon. My favorite Woody Allen movie, and possibly the funniest movie I've ever seen. Like most Allen movies, the performances are great, but it's the script that is what really makes the movie fantastic. So many great jokes, and I usually have trouble breathing after watching it.
- DirectorJohn LounsberyWolfgang ReithermanBen SharpsteenStarsSebastian CabotJunius MatthewsBarbara LuddyIn this collection of animated shorts based on the stories and characters by A.A. Milne, Winnie the Pooh, a honey-loving teddy bear, embarks on some eccentric adventures.I consider this the only great Disney Animated movie made in the years between Sleeping Beauty and The Little Mermaid. It also is probably my most nostalgia-blinded movie. Every character is a favorite of mine, and Tigger could be up there as my favorite ever. Everybody has friends that they can attach to each character, no matter what age you are. The whole movie is just cuteness to the extreme. There are cute characters singing cute songs saying cute lines (some of which are very funny). This is a great movie to watch when you are having a bad day. Throw in the DVD and spend some time with your friends in the 100 Acre Wood.
- DirectorMartin CampbellStarsAntonio BanderasAnthony HopkinsCatherine Zeta-JonesA young thief seeking revenge for his brother's death is trained by the once-great, aging Zorro, who is pursuing his own vengeance. If I were going to pick a favorite movie based on how much fun I have watching it, this would be number 1. I'm not usually a huge fan of long action sequences, but the exception is sword-fighting. I could watch that stuff all day. The sword fights in this movie mix choreography and emotion perfectly, which is very rare in movies. Banderas was perfect, Hopkins was great as usual, and Catherine Zeta-Jones...might have had lines at some point, but who really cared what she was saying? James Horner's score is up there with Titanic as his best in my opinion. And, that intro with Zorro slashing the flaming "Z" before the movie starts is the most badass thing ever committed to celluloid.
- DirectorLana WachowskiLilly WachowskiStarsKeanu ReevesLaurence FishburneCarrie-Anne MossWhen a beautiful stranger leads computer hacker Neo to a forbidding underworld, he discovers the shocking truth--the life he knows is the elaborate deception of an evil cyber-intelligence.Whoa.
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsTom CruiseColin FarrellSamantha MortonJohn works with the PreCrime police which stop crimes before they take place, with the help of three 'PreCogs' who can foresee crimes. Events ensue when John finds himself framed for a future murder.Spielberg's best movie of the 21st century. My favorite Sci-fi movie of the past 30 years. The future in this movie could realistically be what it will actually be like. I have always been a fan of Tom Cruise, through the good times and the bad, and this is one of his better performances. The premise is so interesting, and Spielberg has a way of keeping be on the edge of my seat for 2+ hours. This may not be a thought-provoking as his previous movie, A.I, but it has an ending that may not be what it seems, and potentially flew over everyone's head initially. One of the higher spots on my list.
- DirectorPete DocterDavid SilvermanLee UnkrichStarsBilly CrystalJohn GoodmanMary GibbsIn order to power the city, monsters have to scare children so that they scream. However, the children are toxic to the monsters, and after a child gets through, two monsters realize things may not be what they think.Same as Finding Nemo. It's hilarious, clever, emotional, and everything an animated should be. One of my favorite ending lines in a movie.
- DirectorChris ColumbusStarsRobin WilliamsSally FieldPierce BrosnanAfter a bitter divorce, an actor disguises himself as a female housekeeper to spend time with his children held in custody by his former wife. The quintessential Robin Williams vehicle. Just make him an old woman, and let him do what he wants. It's hilarious, and has just enough Chris Columbus sentimentality mixed in with the laughs.
- DirectorDavid LynchStarsNaomi WattsLaura HarringJustin TherouxAfter a car wreck on Mulholland Drive renders a woman amnesiac, she and a Hollywood-hopeful search for clues and answers across Los Angeles in a twisting venture beyond dreams and reality.David Lynch's masterpiece, without question. Also, my favorite movie behind "The Shining." The only Oscar nod this movie got was Best Director for Lynch. He did not win, but the fact he was even nominated for a movie like this means something. Personally, I have trouble thinking of a more well directed movie (Except The Shining). Imagine any other director in history trying to direct this script? It's a scary thought. The whole feeling of the movie is unlike anything I could ever feel outside this movie. It's like getting sucked into this surreal "dream place." The movie starts off like it is going to have some sort of linear story, but gradually it starts losing that and gets more insane. It may seem just like randomness at times, but this is a puzzle that can be solved. It all can make sense. Aside from David Lynch being a genius, Naomi Watts gives my favorite female performance ever, possibly my favorite by any gender. She was perfect at being emotional, naive, crazy, sexy, literally everything she was called upon to do, she did better than any actress I have seen. I can't praise this movie enough, it's my closest rival to The Shining.

- DirectorBrian De PalmaStarsPaul WilliamsWilliam FinleyJessica HarperA disfigured composer sells his soul for the woman he loves so that she will perform his music. However, an evil record tycoon betrays him and steals his music to open his rock palace, The Paradise.
- DirectorAndrzej ZulawskiStarsIsabelle AdjaniSam NeillMargit CarstensenA woman starts exhibiting increasingly disturbing behavior after asking her husband for a divorce. Suspicions of infidelity soon give way to something much more sinister.
- DirectorRob ReinerStarsCary ElwesMandy PatinkinRobin WrightA bedridden boy's grandfather reads him the story of a farmboy-turned-pirate who encounters numerous obstacles, enemies and allies in his quest to be reunited with his true love. It's impossible to bring up this movie to someone without eventually quoting the entire movie. That alone makes this a worthy entry.
- DirectorSusan StromanStarsNathan LaneMatthew BroderickUma ThurmanAfter putting together another Broadway flop, down-on-his-luck producer Max Bialystock teams up with timid accountant Leo Bloom in a get-rich-quick scheme to put on the world's worst show.I don't understand the negative reception for this movie. I thought it had all the greatness of the original, and then some. Maybe it's just that I find Nathan Lane disturbingly funny. Besides him though, every other performance was great, and some parts had me laughing uncontrollably. Some of the songs dragged on, and maybe the movie was a bit too long, but it's endlessly re-watchable nonetheless.
- DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsAnthony PerkinsJanet LeighVera MilesA Phoenix secretary embezzles $40,000 from her employer's client, goes on the run and checks into a remote motel run by a young man under the domination of his mother. My favorite Hitchcock movie. Anthony Perkins' performance is among my favorite of all time, and Bernard Herrmann's score is also one of my favorites ever. Not much needs to be said here, its really a perfect thriller.
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsHarrison FordKaren AllenPaul FreemanIn 1936, archaeologist and adventurer Indiana Jones is hired by the U.S. government to find the Ark of the Covenant before the Nazis can obtain its awesome powers. The non-stop action movie starts here. The movie does not slow down from the iconic opening to the unexpectedly dark ending. After seeing it so many times, it is not quite as fun at it was back when I was younger, but my love will always remain.
- DirectorQuentin TarantinoStarsHarvey KeitelTim RothMichael MadsenWhen a simple jewelry heist goes horribly wrong, the surviving criminals begin to suspect that one of them is a police informant. This is my favorite Tarantino movie. Pulp Fiction just seemed kinda like a jumbled mess of Tarantino trying to show off his "creativity." The movie went nowhere and I could not look at is as much more than a silly comedy. Not Dogs. Not a second of this movie seems wasted with pointless dialogue, (not to say there is no pointless dialogue, it's just not wasted). The characters are all very fun to watch, and you start to like them (even the ones you shouldn't). It's clever, fun, and shocking. As I said, Tarantino's best.
- DirectorBarbet SchroederStarsJeremy IronsGlenn CloseRon SilverWealthy Sunny von Bülow lies brain-dead, husband Claus guilty of attempted murder; but he says he's innocent and hires Alan Dershowitz for his appeal.Based on the Sunny Von Bulow coma case in the 1980's. Jeremy Irons is arguably my favorite actor, and his Oscar Winning portrayal of Claus Von Bulow is a big reason why (also, Dead Ringers). This movie could have very easily have been done on the Hallmark channel not be seen by anyone under 70, but the script was way too good for that, and the actors were too talented. Visually, it does not have much going for it, it's very basic. However, that is not the point. We given evidence, introduced to Claus, and are forced to make our own decision on what happened. But how can we make THAT decision if we can't make a decision about Claus himself? He seems so evil, but he is so charming and intriguing that you can't really hate him. Completely mesmerizing.

- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsLiam NeesonRalph FiennesBen KingsleyIn German-occupied Poland during World War II, industrialist Oskar Schindler gradually becomes concerned for his Jewish workforce after witnessing their persecution by the Nazis.Has any director ever had a year like Spielberg in 1993 (Excluding Victor Fleming)? Jurassic Park was the most successful movie in history, and Schindler's List won Best Picture. The almost undisputed greatest Holocaust movie ever, finally got Hollywood to start taking Spielberg seriously. SL is one of those movies where you actually can't believe the greatness that is unfolding in front of your eyes. Liam Neeson gives probably my favorite male performance ever (should have won the Oscar, Ralph Fiennes too). It would have been so easy to make Oskar Schindler forgettable, and would have happened if this took the regular biopic route and played him like a "do no wrong" saint. Oskar Schindler is the most badass character Liam Neeson ever played (which is saying alot). He was cooler than the 'Fonz, and also managed to save a thousand Jewish lives. Ralph Fiennes was so good at being bad in this, that he became typecasted as a villain for life. John Williams' score is breathtaking, the cinematography is some of the best I've ever seen, every performance is memorable. Truly, one of the greatest movies ever made.
- DirectorWes CravenStarsNeve CampbellCourteney CoxDavid ArquetteA year after the murder of her mother, a teenage girl is terrorized by a masked killer who targets her and her friends by using scary movies as part of a deadly game. This is the best horror movie of the past 25 years, and arguably the best slasher movie ever. It is certainly the best written one. There are so many great moments from the intro, to the "Jamie, behind you" scene, and from the big reveal on. And nobody guessed the twist. You may have guessed part of it, but nobody got it on the nose. In addition to that, it was friggin hilarious. Horror movies don't normally have scripts this good. I am also a big fan of all three sequels, but none can match the original.
- DirectorAndrew AdamsonVicky JensonStarsMike MyersEddie MurphyCameron DiazA mean lord exiles fairytale creatures to the swamp of a grumpy ogre, who must go on a quest and rescue a princess for the lord in order to get his land back. The best Dreamworks animated movie. Unfortunately, this started a trend of horrible animated movie filled with pop culture references and ending the movie with a musical number. However, Shrek did it right. Its a hilarious movie, and spawned one good sequel. Just one.
- DirectorFrank DarabontStarsTim RobbinsMorgan FreemanBob GuntonOver the course of several years, two convicts form a friendship, seeking consolation and, eventually, redemption through basic compassion. What bad things can I even say about Shawshank? And that's really all I can say about it, it's so sublimely good I don't really have anything to say.
- DirectorStanley KubrickStarsJack NicholsonShelley DuvallDanny LloydA family heads to an isolated hotel for the winter where a sinister presence influences the father into violence, while his psychic son sees horrific forebodings from both past and future. My favorite movie of all time. No contest. Gets better with every viewing. Jack Nicholson and Danny Lloyd are always praised for their performances, but Shelley Duvall gave one of my favorite female performances ever. She was just so perfect as the annoying, naive wife. And nobody has expressed terror as well as her, ever. Pretty much every frame in the movie has meaning, and there are so many layers to the story that you might not even start to pick up on until you see the movie 5 times. So many questions are posed, and not really answered, but once you find something that may explain one thing, it just poses 10 more questions. Why does Grady have 2 names? What's with the picture at the end? Why are the numbers 11, 21, 24, and 42 everywhere? Who is the lady in the bathtub? Why are mirrors so prominent? And that's barley scratching the surface. I could go on for an entire book if necessary. It's a beautifully filmed, superbly acted, and endlessly creepy film. This movie has been my favorite for years, and its pretty much set in stone. There is virtually no chance of it being moved.
- DirectorJonathan DemmeStarsJodie FosterAnthony HopkinsScott GlennA young F.B.I. cadet must receive the help of an incarcerated and manipulative cannibal killer to help catch another serial killer, a madman who skins his victims. It still kinda amazes me just how good this movie is. At the time, the names involved would not really make you expect something great was gonna be made. In 1991, Anthony Hopkins was not a big deal yet, who the hell are Jonathan Demme and Ted Tally? Ted Levine? We expected something from Jodie Foster at least. Then we were delivered possibly the most mesmerizing and hypnotic movis of the 1990's, maybe off all time. Every aspect of this movie is just awe inspiring, from Anthony Hopkins performance, to Howard Shore's music, to even the damn poster. The escape scene is one of the greatest scene's in film history, and this movie just never gets any less engaging with repeated viewings.

- DirectorGeorge LucasStarsMark HamillHarrison FordCarrie FisherLuke Skywalker joins forces with a Jedi Knight, a cocky pilot, a Wookiee and two droids to save the galaxy from the Empire's world-destroying battle station, while also attempting to rescue Princess Leia from the mysterious Darth Vader. The movie that started it all, along with officially ending the New Hollywood era. Maybe that is a bad thing, but who cares, we have Star Wars now. What would the world be like without it? Every character, every line of dialogue, every note of music has become iconic. The crazy thing is, this is not even the best movie in the series.
- DirectorGeorge LucasStarsHayden ChristensenNatalie PortmanEwan McGregorThree years into the Clone Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi pursues a new threat, while Anakin Skywalker is lured by Chancellor Palpatine into a sinister plot to rule the galaxy. The prequels were inferior, we get that. I happened to enjoy them. And I enjoyed this one almost as much as the OT. Hayden Christianson's acting did not get better, but his hair totally did, and that was enough to make him easier to tolerate. Ian Mcdiarmid's performance stole this movie, and deserved an Oscar nod (which he did not get). There are so many great scenes in this. The intro, to Mace Windu's death, and the entire final hour is just too epic to dislike for me. This is Star Wars.
- DirectorIrvin KershnerStarsMark HamillHarrison FordCarrie FisherAfter the Rebel Alliance are overpowered by the Empire, Luke Skywalker begins his Jedi training with Yoda, while his friends are pursued across the galaxy by Darth Vader and bounty hunter Boba Fett. This is the epitome of Star Wars. Everyone has their own opinions, which I respect, but I can't help but feel a little frustrated when someone does not agree that Empire is far and away the best Star Wars movie. Every single actor magically got better, John Williams somehow managed to compose a score that was even better than the original, Yoda was introduced, and was so good that Frank Oz almost got an Oscar nod for a character that was a puppet and has 15 minutes of screen time. Han and Leia became the thing, Boba Fett talks back to Vader and lives to tell the tale, Darth Vader gets significantly more screen time, we get to see a real black guy, the movie does not slow down to breath at any point, we got one of the greatest plot twists in creative history, and we are left with 100% the greatest cliffhanger ever written in English. But I guess maybe you can prefer ROTJ, I don't know...
- DirectorRichard MarquandStarsMark HamillHarrison FordCarrie FisherAfter rescuing Han Solo from Jabba the Hutt, the Rebel Alliance attempt to destroy the second Death Star, while Luke struggles to help Darth Vader back from the dark side. The epic conclusion. I feel this is far inferior to the first 2 in the trilogy, but I still love it. I don't think Richard Marquand is a very good director, and though he probably did not have THAT much influence on the product, you can tell this was a step down. The ending of the movie was absolutely the perfect ending, and I would not want it to be any different. I still get excited when Darth Vader turns back into Anakin Skywaker and saves Luke. Manly tears are shed.
- DirectorRichard DonnerStarsChristopher ReeveMargot KidderGene HackmanAn alien orphan is sent from his dying planet to Earth, where he grows up to become his adoptive home's first and greatest superhero. The first superhero movie remains one of the best. Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder are the perfect Lois and Clark, there you have Marlon Brando, Gene Hackman, Ned Beatty, RICHARD DONNER, JOHN WILLIAMS!!! It's thrilling emotional, funny, even the damn title sequence is fantastic! Let's just pretend the ending was different though. Let's forget about the ending, it's not important.
- DirectorRichard LesterStarsGene HackmanChristopher ReeveMargot KidderSuperman agrees to sacrifice his powers to start a relationship with Lois Lane, unaware that three Kryptonian criminals he inadvertently released are conquering Earth.
- DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsRobert De NiroJodie FosterCybill ShepherdA mentally unstable veteran works as a nighttime taxi driver in New York City, where the perceived decadence and sleaze fuels his urge for violent action.I consider this Scorsese's masterpiece. I love when he teams up with Paul Schrader. It's always good. I don't know how to feel about Travis. I think there is a little Travis in everyone and we are all scared of that fact. It's kind of like how I feel about Amadeus, it scares me that I sympathize. That final shot always scares me. The entire ending of the movie can totally change just from that final shot with the car mirror. Maybe it means nothing...
- DirectorJames CameronStarsArnold SchwarzeneggerLinda HamiltonMichael BiehnA human soldier is sent from 2029 to 1984 to stop an almost indestructible cyborg killing machine, sent from the same year, which has been programmed to execute a young woman whose unborn son is the key to humanity's future salvation. The first from James Cameron (Piranha 2 does not count). It remains one of his best. It's so iconic I don't really have much to say about it. It's kind of a perfect action movie, and the future it creates it still kinda scary, considering it could totally happen in real life at any moment. My second favorite James Cameron movie, right behind....
- DirectorJames CameronStarsArnold SchwarzeneggerLinda HamiltonEdward FurlongA cyborg, identical to the one who failed to kill Sarah Connor, must now protect her ten year old son John from an even more advanced and powerful cyborg....T2 MOTHAF#$&%!@!!! Greatest action movie ever made. Just like Star Wars to Empire Strikes Back, T2 takes all that was great in the first movie and gives it steroids and so much more. Sarah Conner went from cute, innocent little waitress girl to badass, crazy, scary-in-a-kind-of-sexy-way woman. Arnold goes from amazing villain to even better hero, and is replaced with a (somehow) superior villain. The SPX and action sequences blow everything in the first movie (and every other movie ever) out of the water. We get something very different than we normally do in mainstream movies, we are given our hero, the savior of the human race (John Conner) and we don't like him because he is an annoying stupid kid, then we are given Dyson, the guy who kills 3 billion people, and we feel so bad for the guy. This is alot less black and white than were are used to in action movies. We don't even know who is good and who is bad for the first half hour. Awesomeness aside, James Cameron never wrote a better script, a villain has never seemed so unstoppable, Arnold never gave a better performance, and I never thought I would cry at a Terminator movie. Though I did enjoy Terminator 3, the series should have ended here, the story was complete, just like in the other James Cameron sequel.
- DirectorGeorge PalStarsRod TaylorAlan YoungYvette MimieuxA man's vision for a utopian society is disillusioned when travelling forward into time reveals a dark and dangerous society. One of my dad's favorite movies ever, and thank God because I never would have heard of this movie otherwise. This is most likely in my top ten, because I can literally watch this movie at any time and be just as entertained. I wish this movie was more of a classic, instead of sort of cult movie. Every idea presented in this movie is so interesting and it is shown to us in such a thrilling way. This one keeps calling me back to it. Occasionally, when I probably should catch up on my immense watch list, I end up just watching The Time Machine again. Never gets old.
- DirectorOrson WellesStarsAnthony PerkinsArnoldo FoàJess HahnAn unassuming office worker is arrested and stands trial, but he is never made aware of his charges.I had really no idea what I was getting myself into with "The Trial." I was in a Orson Welles phase for a couple days, just watching anything of his i could find, and when I go to this, I was really taken aback. Anthony Perkins is the king of nervousness, and putting him in a surrealist movie where he, like the audience, has no idea what is going on, is just brilliant. The movie is at his best when Anthony Perkins is talking to a female, they all want him and he has no idea what to do with himself. This is also one of my favorite visual movies. Orson Welles can use a camera like no other would even attempt, and the cinematography here is so unique its unbelievable that somebody actually thought of it. This really struck me on the first viewing in a way almost no movies are able to do.

This was my first love. Not a single negative thing I can say about this movie. It's had such an impact on my life. Ray Bolger as the Scarecrow is one of my 3 favorite performances ever, and is very influential in my acting. Every character I play, has a little bit of the Scarecrow in him. Even in life, I kinda have been influenced by him. My life would be drastically different without this movie, and I don't even want to imagine what it would be.

I have always loved the writing of Bonnie and Terry Turner (3rd Rock From the Sun is my favorite show), and Chris Farley and David Spade are so good together. This has been one of my favorite movies since a very young age, and it remains one of my favorite comedies.

My dad forced it down my throat as a baby, and after nearly choking to death, I watched and loved it. I love Gene Wilder's acting style, this is his funniest performance. The rest of the cast is amazing too, with almost all of my favorite comedy actors crammed into one movie, with my favorite comedy writer/director at the helm. Arguably my favorite comedy.
