Stuntman Scott Leva was considered for the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man when the film project was first proposed in the mid-1980s under the direction of "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" director Tobe Hooper as well as director Albert Pyun .

In 1987, he was tapped by Cannon Films to play both Spider-Man and Peter Parker in their adaptation of the comic. He was also the actor on the first photographic cover of a Spider-Man comic book, appearing as Peter Parker, half-way in costume, on The Amazing Spider-Man, #262 (cover date March 1985).
