The worst superhero movies I've watched
I haven't seen Superbabies, Underdog, The Wild World of Batwoman, Lightspeed, Abar - the first black superman, Prey of the jaguar, The Adventures of the American Rabbit, L'uomo puma (Pumaman) and the movies of Indian Superman. They would probably be in this list. The same may be said about many superhero films starred by Mexican masked wrestlers.
In this list, there are films from USA, Canada, Turkey, UK, Japan, Hong Kong, Mexico, India, Italy, Brazil, and English-language German co-productions.
A large list of the best superhero films can be seen here: www.imdb.com/list/G48FZ6x48PQ
The last movies from this list were originally placed as the last ones in the list above, about the best superhero movies, as they also had the same rate (6) but I judged that their qualities were more important than their defects (they are the short "Superhero" and the movies placed after it). Though, as my list of the best became too big, I decided to put all the films with rate six in the end of this list of the worst.
An encopassing list of much more than 100 superhero films from best to worst can be made by adding the movies from the other list to the reverse of this list.

By the way, why the hell all superheroes are supposed to look like Iron Man nowadays?!

- DirectorJohnny CrashStarsErin BrownJulian WellsDarian CaineA socially awkward young woman gets bitten by a radioactive spider and becomes a crime-fighting superhero and tries to defeat a nefarious super villain while going after any man (or woman) she wants to bed down with. There are some of the worst actors I have ever seen. Particularly horrible is Justin Wingenfeld; what the hell is his character, how old is he?! Lucinda Knoxx a.k.a. supervillain Femtilian is not much better. The story is a crap (and the parts they just copied from Spider-Man are a grotesque version), as the whole film is just an excuse for softcore. The web being expelled from that place is a ridiculous joke. Visual effects and fight coreographies are the worst you may imagine.
- DirectorDavid PalmieriStarsCuyle CarvinAndrew J McGuinnessMarlene Mc'CohenSam Battle, injected with a secret serum that gained him super human strength and agility, battles the Neo Nazis, bound to resurrect the cloned corpse of Adolf Hitler.Horrible effects (some of the worst I have ever seen), terrible acting, grotesque soundtrack, pathetic Nazi villains, prejudices against the Iraqi, stupid plot, incoherent and not credible screenplay. It is a crap!
- DirectorDaniel GaliardiStarsAlbert LamontJeff NashS.K. WongHorrible, embarrassing acting, ridiculous female fight. If you really want to, watch it here: https://youtu.be/ktbxAJzC6eo
- DirectorRobb WolfordStarsBlake ArnoldRichard A. BeckerRuth W. BlockA battered wife leaves her husband to become a super hero in this comic book come to life complete with panels , page turns and old fashioned novelty ads. Taking the identity of Furie, Connie Ferrantti joins a team of working class masked avengers called The Crusaders. It isn't long before she finds herself in conflict with their mysterious leader, The Ace of Spades. A one time hero of the golden age, The Ace of Spades is now walking a tightrope between good and evil. Can Furie save him from falling over the edge? The idea of playing the movie as if it were comic book pages is clever, but the film's campiness, awful amateur special effects and not serious or skilled acting are simply disgusting and not entertaining.
- DirectorLewis SchoenbrunStarsTerence LordingShevaun KastlRandal MaloneHenry 'Hank' Howard works as a scientist in a military lab, trying to create a superhuman formula but with little success. He is also in love with the daughter of his boss, a general. In an effort to earn his approval to marry his daughter, Henry tests the formula on himself, inadvertently transforming himself into a purple rage monster and leaving him at the mercy of those who wish to exploit his newfound power.Unbelievable effects.

- DirectorT. Fikret UçakStarsAytekin AkkayaDeniz ErkanatYavuz SelekmanA crime wave is terrorizing Istanbul, and the police call in American superhero Captain America and Mexican wrestler Santo to end it.In this Turkish superhero film, "3 giant (or mighty) men", Spiderman is a dangerous criminal and leader of the spiders gang, while Captain America, his girlfriend Julia and Mexican El Santo go to Istambul to fight him and his minions. It is even worse than it seems!
- DirectorDennis DuganStarsAdam SandlerJohn TurturroEmmanuelle ChriquiAn Israeli Special Forces Soldier fakes his death so he can re-emerge in New York City as a hair stylist. The border that separates exaggerated action flicks (like "Mission: impossible"; or their spoofs, like "Austin Powers") and superhero films is very often blurred. I consider Zohan as a superhero (although it is not explained why the Jewish superhero who works as a special agent for Israeli Special Forces has superpowers; it seems that it's just an excess of testosterone) because he is able to stop bullets or to deviate himself from them, to swim faster than a jet ski, is much stronger than a bull or than three strong men, feels no pain, etc.
After explaining why this may be considered as a superhero movie, it's time to say why this is one of the worst: besides being unfunny, it damages the possibility of discussing properly the violence in Middle East as, in spite of condemning the lack of interest for peace in both sides, it stereotypes arabs. - DirectorTakafumi NagamineStarsShino SaitôNao EguchiKie IkutaA school that teaches young boys and girls how to become famous anchorpeople in the media. But there is something strange going in this school. The facility takes a sick pride in handing our S & M style punishments to students for the most trivial things. But there is one among them, a hero that hides her face but bares everything else in the name of justice. Her name is Kekko Kamen, all know the legend of how Kekko Kamen defeated the evil Mangriffin in a local high school, but now she's back and out to stop the evil twisted fiends once again.Review: Misogyny and sexual harassment are not funny at all. This Japanese manga-based comedy superhero film is very bad. Off course a surrealistic B-movie with poor visual effects may be good, and even the bizarre idea of a naked super heroine with an rabbit-eared red mask and scarf who fights with her beautiful body (and has a special strike in which she performs an epic jump, opens her legs and strangles the enemy between her thighs) and with a nunchaku (that she uses quite well) is not the problem (and could also be funny). The drawbacks are that acting and dialogs are awful and poor, and the story is ridiculous, campy and somewhat misogynous: evil and powerful TV journalism training school owners torture the students (who are all girls) in a childish but also sexual way, and the superheroine Kekkô Kamen saves the day fighting them in order to allow the victims to "accomplish their dreams". Villains are purposely the most ridiculous possible, and it was not funny but just one more reason to hate the film. Anyway, an important lesson everyone may learn by watching it is that sexual sublimation in real life is not a good motivation for creating sane movies. Sexual harassment is not a topic suitable for jokes. Close-ups on breasts and panties give the impression that teenagers who are just discovering sex are responsible for direction and cinematography. By its weirdness and theme, the film could be nothing else but Japanese.
- DirectorJim WynorskiStarsTalisa SotoRoger DaltreyRichard Joseph PaulAdam, a descendant of the Van Helsings, works for PURGE, a paramilitary group dedicated to hunting vampires. He teams up with the alien Vampirella in order to locate and deal with their common enemy, Vlad.Story, acting, everything is ridiculous.
- DirectorLeslie H. MartinsonStarsEllie Wood WalkerWilliam DozierLinda HarrisonUnaired TV pilot in which Diana Prince lives with her mother Hippolyta. When she is needed, she transforms into Wonder Woman and flies off to save the world.Fortunately it is an unaired TV pilot and it is a short film with just four minutes. Really bad! Ridiculous acting of Linda Harrison, bizarre costume and flight.
- DirectorAlfredo B. CrevennaStarsSantoWolf RuvinskisIgnacio GómezThe masked wrestler battles Martians intent on taking over Earth.Review: The ridiculousness of this film is very funny, what automatically makes it less bad than other awful movies. Though, even when you make a film with bizarre costumes, a silly story, and bad acting, at least one expects it to have internal logical consistency.
This Mexican superhero film, though, contradicts itself too much seriously (for example, just a touch is enough to teletransport a human, but the Martians who wrestle against Santo cannot do it with him; besides that, the first alien to fight Santo has a disintegration ray but does not try to use it against him, although having the hero as a powerful opponent, and only uses it against people who do not offer any risk to them).
Even the (excessively long) fight scenes are very bad (asslock, headbutt on the sphincter and other ridiculous attacks, with no visually impressive jump) and boring. - DirectorRobert RodriguezStarsCayden BoydGeorge LopezKristin DavisA young boy is recruited by his imaginary friends Sharkboy and Lavagirl to help save their planet. This is a film made for children, but I don't think that only movies for adults must have a minimum quality. This one is very bizarre and it is hard to believe that a film with so ridiculous visual effects was made so recently. The costumes are also awful. I have seen many very good children actors in the leading roles of good films; that is not the case here: these boys (including the "Twilight" one!) and girl are bad!
- DirectorJeff WadlowStarsAaron Taylor-JohnsonChloë Grace MoretzChristopher Mintz-PlasseFollowing Kick-Ass' heroics, other citizens are inspired to become masked crusaders, but Red Mist leads his own group of evil super-villains to get revenge, kill Kick-Ass, and destroy everything he stands for.Review: This is a very bad film! Besides having all the drawbacks of its highly overrated prequel (it pretends to show common people becoming superheroes but indeed show hyper-violent and criminal child who fights better than Batman) it has much worse and absolutely unfunny jokes, a lot of prejudice (against Arabs, Asians, gays, women... and I am not talking about the racism of a character, like the M0therfvcker, but about the whole film), awful dialogs. I expected that at least Jim Carrey could save the day... but he did not. The plot itself is a disaster: Mindy cannot be a superhero because she promised to her father who made her a superhero that she would obey his friend who doesn't want her to be a superhero? That's nonsense. The way Ass- Kicker became a super villain was also so silly, so childish! As a matter of fact, super villains in this film are even worse than superheroes. Seeing the "evil army" reminded me the worse of comic book films from the 80's, without their qualities. All the parody of Watchmen (the picture on the wall, the outlawing of costumed vigilantes...) could be nice if the rest of the film were nice, but it isn't. I also think that, as the movie pretends that common young people are the heroes (15 years old Hit Girl shoots real guns!), they are really stimulating violence among teenagers in a very dangerous way. And what the hell was that absurd last quote?!
- DirectorJames WongStarsJustin ChatwinJames MarstersChow Yun-FatThe young warrior Son Goku sets out on a quest, racing against time and the vengeful King Piccolo, to collect a set of seven magical orbs that will grant their wielder unlimited power.I have not watched more than a small part of this film yet, but I am already able to say that it is terrible.
- DirectorIvan NagyStarsReb BrownConnie SelleccaLen BirmanThe star spangled hero must battle a villain's plan to poison America with a chemical that horrifically accelerates the aging process.Review: The most ridiculous Captain America ever. This is an awful movie, much worse than its prequel "Captain America" from the same year, 1979. The action scenes are ridiculous, the soundtrack is horrible (perhaps the worst I have ever listened, together with Captain Battle's) and acting is as bad as in the previous Captain America TV film.
Besides that, the words "terrorism" and "revolution" are used as synonyms, and the hero attacks workers in the harbor because there is a chance that they are the ones who deal with illegal commodities (but off course it was possible that they were innocent!).
Everything is bad in "Captain America II: Death Too Soon", in spite (or not) of Christopher Lee (yes! he did not act badly) as the villain. - DirectorDaniel LeeStarsJet LiChing Wan LauKaren MokA survivor of a supersoldier project must fight his former comrades as a masked hero.Cheesy movie, with a simplistic bad story, childish excess of explosions, kitsch edition, unskilled acting, grotesque bad taste.
- DirectorBrian GrantStarsChristopher BowenLarry DrakeKathleen YorkA 30-minute unaired television pilot based on the original Sam Raimi's 1990 Darkman movie. How did they think that a TV series would be approved after presenting this pilot? Some scenes from the first movie are used in the unaired TV pilot.
- DirectorJulian GrantStarsShannon TweedJoe TabbSten EirikThe discovery of a miraculous serum capable of giving youth, health and superhuman powers arouses the interest of Marcus, a megalomaniac billionaire bound to a wheelchair. He sends his assassins to seize it. But the discovery is no longer in the laboratories. While the young man tries to escape with his girlfriend, the beautiful and mysterious Electra comes forward, determined in her turn to get the serum. And the fact that the beneficial effects are now transmissible only through sexual intercourse does not worry her.Review: The fight for the super semen: a kung fu vampire superhero trash B exploitation movie. I wrote this review avoiding spoilers as much as I thought possible, though I cannot consider it spoiler-free. To begin, horrible acting, ridiculous plot and amateur soundtrack are traits of this sexploitation B movie. There is a superpowerful guy (with superstrenght, superspeed, superjump... although not that powerful if compared to other superheroes), Billy, who fights against bad guys. As the superpowers may be transmitted by sexual intercourse, everybody want that semen (that is a very bizarre plot!). To worsen, the supposedly main character, portrayed by Shannon Tweed, is his stepmother but has a crush on him, and he on hers (in the climax, there will be a fog and everything will spin around them!?!). The long-haired superhero in tight jeans fight against the criminals who try to get his semen. The millionaire and handicapped mobster called Roach (indeed, a cockroach is his symbol) has many henchmen, but his main thugs are two dominatrix-style (un)dressed girls. One of them (dangerous master artist Karen, portrayed by Lara Daans) opens the movie with a remarkable "exotic dance" show. Another scene to be highlighted, in this case because it is dire (a B trash kung fu film style scene), is the fight inside the cage between Billy and the two thugs. In the end, when the movie gets even campier, new superpowers arise, such as Electra rays, sharp claws, vampire fangs and hypnotic spittle (everything very bizarre!). To resume: What the hell is the fight between Billy and the wheelchair flamethrower supervillain Roach?! WTF are the two last scenes?!!!! OK, that is enough, I cannot tell much more without telling the story (story?).
- DirectorJeremy M. InmanStarsCasper Van DienLauren ParkinsonLou FerrignoWhen Rumpelstiltskin destroys the Magic Mirror and escapes to the modern world, the four princesses Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, and Rapunzel are sucked through the portal too. The four women now must save Earth. It is incredible how one could imagine a quite nice movie based in the very same idea and characters (but the superpowers would need to be explained, what they were not), but this is horrible! Incredibly bad actors and director (as the sequel is much less bad and has a different director, I suppose it was mainly his fault)! Everything is badly done.
- DirectorBryan SpicerStarsKaran AshleyJohnny Yong BoschSteve CardenasA giant egg is unearthed at a construction site and soon opened, releasing the terrible Ivan Ooze, who wreaks vengeance on Zordon for imprisoning him millennia ago. With Zordon dying and their powers lost, the Rangers head to a distant planet to find the mystic warrior Dulcea. It is for children (too silly even for teenagers, just for children!) but it is not just childish, but really bad. Costumes are bad, action scenes are even worse, and acting is the worst in this waste of my time.
- DirectorJulián SolerStarsSantoAlejandro MorenoIvan J. RadoA Nazi scientist threatens to destroy civilization with a nuclear bomb from his base in Atlantis. Santo must deactivate it in time to stop his plan to revive the Third Reich.Silly, cheesy, boring, badly acted, with horrible visual and sound effects, and ridiculous soundtrack. At least there is a lot of (unconvincing) action and fighting.
- DirectorJingle MaStarsMichelle YeohKôichi IwakiBrandon ChangLulu Wong lives a double life - part urban social butterfly, part vigilante superhero. Armed with ancient fighting techniques and high tech hardware, Lulu is a beautiful masked millionaire battling to defeat a greedy tyrant.Extremely boring and not even slightly innovative.
- DirectorJeremy M. InmanStarsJohnny Rey DiazChristina LicciardiLindsay SawyerWhen a supernatural cult threatens Earth, Alice must assemble a team of fairy tale villains to face the literal forces of Death. The sequel of Avengers Grimm 1 and 2 follows the very same idea of the previous movies: a mashup of fairytale characters in superhero blockbusters-inspired assembly. While the previous "Avengers" were the pricesses againt evil, in this film the supervillains themselves compose a "Squad". It is better than horrible first movie but much worse than Avengers Grimm 2. Characters are too different from their sources, and the idea of making them as superheroes or supervillains would only work if they were at list a little true to original fairytales. Besides that, costumes and stage should be much better - they look like theater (in the bad sense; off course what works in theater not necessarily works in motion picture). The story is a mess and there is almost no interesting moment.
- DirectorGianfranco ParoliniStarsTony KendallBrad HarrisAldo CantiFBI agent Brad joins Tony and Nick, the self styled Supermen who battle crime wearing bullet-proof super-suits. They are on a case involving radioactive counterfeit money and people who can be broken down into precious jewels.Good stunt work but unfunny slapstick and messy story. Boring noises of the mute antihero. The bad film is also boring and sexist.
- DirectorTakashi MiikeStarsShô AikawaKyôka SuzukiAtsuro WatabeA down-and-out school teacher receives the calling to become the real life personification of an old television superhero, Zebraman. An uncharismatic teacher, who uses to dress like a ridiculous TV superhero when he is alone at home, suddenly gets superpowers to become the real Zebraman and fight depraved aliens who like to use crab masks and have green blood (they seem to be specialized in commiting sexual violence, particulaly against girls in school uniform). That is trash. A compulsory question: what the hell was the zebra nurse?!!!
- DirectorPitofStarsHalle BerrySharon StoneBenjamin BrattA shy woman, endowed with the speed, reflexes, and senses of a cat, walks a thin line between criminal and hero, even as a detective doggedly pursues her, fascinated by both of her personas.Really bad. What happened, Halle Berry?! That ridiculous basketball scene looks like Bollywood!
- DirectorJoel SchumacherStarsArnold SchwarzeneggerGeorge ClooneyChris O'DonnellBatman and Robin try to keep their relationship together even as they must stop Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy from freezing Gotham City.Even George Clooney and the producers were ashamed afterwards. The diretor has apologized. The costumes are bizarre (black and silver, with nipples), the usage of bright colors and fog is too much kitsch, the villains are ridiculous (look at Poison Ivy's hair!), overacting irritates, there is a Batgirl from Beverly Hills... It's unanimously the worst Batman movie ever.
- DirectorShaheer NaqviStarsChristian ReyesAmbar Soto RiveraLance MoranAfter a life threatening battle, Clark is brought back in time by a powerful yet mysterious force. Now in the past, he must decide whether to hero or live a quiet life. Little does he know, his choices now could bring about serious consequences on the road to his future.Off course you can see the impact of a low budget (over the visual effects, for example), but it is not a problem as this is a fan film (although it does not allow them not to put the Superman symbol straight over the uniform!). Acting is generally bad (the thin Superman is OK, but the other characters, especially Lois Lane, are bad). The story is a mess: why the hell is Green Arrow (or another bowman, we cannot know) attacking Lois Lane? Why criminals save Superman after attackig him? Why Gotham City local hero is not characterized as Batman? What made Superman become evil and why he suddenly became good again? I simply could not understand the screenplay. Meanwhile, Aiko has mixed emotions and decide to get her panties back from Kyosuke. Kyosuke suffers from the loss and disappears. The biggest enemy yet appears in front of Kyosuke. This sequel is bizarre as the original film, but quite worse than it. Just silly, with few (not so) funny moments.
- DirectorAaron SchoenkeStarsJennifer WengerDamian BeurerAndy LieglBatman Beyond's plans for dinner and a movie with his girlfriend, Kim, are put on hold when Bruce Wayne notifies his protégé that someone has broken into Wayne Towers. Upon arrival, he discovers that Spider-Man 2099 is searching for an unnamed object. The two quickly embroiled in a battle royal on top of and over some of Gotham City's tallest skyscrapers.Bat in the Sun live action shorts films are quite nice, but the animated pieces I watched are not. Besides that, action is confusing here, and these are bad versions of both amazing superheroes. Watch it here: https://youtu.be/QU1w2icYZyM
- DirectorChris R. NotarileStarsLindsey BeanHailey HayesLizette GarciaMy recommendation to watch this fan film against bullying, those powerful girls show how to fight the bullying just the way they know. My congratulations for the Director and all actors special greetings to blossom... (Lindsay Bean)There is a good intention (the film is against bullying) but the outcome is poor: unconvincing and far from the charming animated TV show. Watch it here: https://youtu.be/8Cb6GlKyklw
- DirectorVincent McEveetyStarsCathy Lee CrosbyKaz GarasAndrew PrineA super-hero uses her powers to thwart an international spy ring.In spite of showing Diana in the Paradise Island in the beginning of the film, this is deffinitely not a Wonder Woman movie! This is a blond Wonder Woman wearing a completely different costume and with no superpower (except for precise javeling throwing, perhaps): she is just clever and an acrobatic martial artist. I read some reviews saying that even in the comics Wonder Woman had lost her powers those years, and that may explain part of the changes. Anyway, they did not work, and neither did the story.
- DirectorJeannot SzwarcStarsHelen SlaterFaye DunawayPeter O'TooleAfter losing a powerful orb, Kara Zor-El, Superman's cousin, comes to Earth to retrieve it and instead finds herself up against a wicked witch.Awful visual effects, bad background, ridiculous villainess... - DirectorAlbert PyunStarsMatt SalingerRonny CoxNed BeattyFrozen in the ice for decades, Captain America is freed to battle against archcriminal The Red Skull. The film starts surprisingly well, but soon it shows what it came for.
- DirectorJustin ZagriStarsAlexander ArntzenFrancisco CantuDana DeRuyckThree months after the events of 'Riddle of the Mask', Bruce Wayne invites Helena Bertinelli to a charity event to talk about the repercussions of her actions. But not before a familiar enemy shows up as well, armed with his new and dangerous knowledge. The sequel of "Riddle of the Mask" is worse than its prequel, as it lacks its density. It looks like a soap opera. You can watch the short film here: http://youtu.be/qFN_iXh_p2M
- DirectorBradford MayStarsJeff FaheyArnold VoslooDarlanne FluegelWhen he double-crosses a drug kingpin, Darkman must free himself of his remote-control clutches.Bad sequel, much worse than Darkman I and II. The worst flaw is certainly the ridiculous acting of most of casting, particularly the villains.
- DirectorJustin ZagriStarsBeau MarieCharissa SaverioAdam William WardOld and frustrated, Edward Nigma is desperate for an opportunity, and he finds it when he kidnaps Helena Bertinelli, AKA The Huntress. Hotheaded and emotionally driven, she faces her life against giving up the greatest riddle of all.It looks more like a recorded theater play than a film. This Edward Nigma is not really a Riddler. Acting, however, was OK. You can watch this short film in the link: http://youtu.be/qFN_iXh_p2M
- DirectorAlan TaylorStarsChris HemsworthNatalie PortmanTom HiddlestonWhen the Dark Elves attempt to plunge the universe into darkness, Thor must embark on a perilous and personal journey that will reunite him with doctor Jane Foster.A flavor of Star Wars perhaps mixed with a little of Lords of the Rings, but resulting in an awful film, which tries desperately to be funny, with weak outcome at best. Loki makes everything get a little better, but that is definetely not enough. What the hell are those ridiculous bazookas in the nine realms wars and those Venice carnival masks used by dark elfs?
- DirectorJames BoutcherStarsJames BoutcherMarcel LegaultKelsey GoldbergBatman seeks Claire Williams, a Wayne Enterprises employee who designed the prototype of new type of hologram who has been reported missing. To rescue her, he must battle his way through a gauntlet of thugs and then defeat two of his most deadly adversaries.A failed fan film. It is not convincing, has awful visual effects and tedious fighting scenes. Batman and Scarecrow are neither original nor impressive, but are acceptable; though, the main villain, the Riddler, is a shame. Watch it here: https://youtu.be/MplQVXpvZJ4
- DirectorJosh TrankStarsMiles TellerKate MaraMichael B. JordanFour young outsiders teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe which alters their physical form in shocking ways. The four must learn to harness their new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.Review: That is the worst of the 4 "Fantastic Four" movies, including the one from the 90's. It could be called "Teen Not Fantastic Four". Unconvincing pseudo-science, uncharismatic actors, boring story... In my opinion, the CGI-made Thing is the worst in all live action "Fantastic 4" movies (he looks like an ent from Tolkien's Middle Earth), including the first one, from the 90's, which is always considered (exaggeratedly) as one of the worst superhero movies ever made. Indeed, if you wanna know, in spite of its much higher budget, this movie is worse than that one, which has been made with no real intention to be released. It was also ridiculous to put Susan Storm as a Kosovar adopted girl just to justify that she is the sister of a black Johnny Storm. Besides that, is it serious that nobody talked about Victor Von Doom since the accident until he reappeared?!
- DirectorAlfred GimenoStarsDee Bradley BakerChloe BennetKathreen KhavariTeen superheroes Ms Marvel, Squirrel Girl, Quake, Patriot, America Chavez and Inferno unite to take down a threat approaching the universe.Annoying.
- DirectorGordon HesslerStarsPeter CrissAce FrehleyGene SimmonsKISS, a rock band made up of superheroes, battles an evil inventor who has plans for destruction at a California amusement park.Review: Campy superheroes show tongues, laser rays, clumsy martial arts and rock n' roll. Very campy film by Hanna-Barbera (but it's live action) that reminds me a bit "Superfriends" TV animated series. Though, it's live action and the superheroes are the members of the Kiss band! Their superpowers come from four magical talismans protected by a force field. Star Child can shoot a laser from the star that comes out of his right eye and also uses it for controlling minds and for activating his superhuman hearing ability. The Demon has superstrength and may breath fire (besides having a thunder voice, a mighty roar... and a long tongue). Space Ace shoots laser rays from both hands (although strangely never uses this power while fighting) and teleports himself and his partners by making the hitchhiking gesture with his thumb. Catman was supposed to have superhuman agility... but all the four seem to have the same superhuman agility! Well, at least he is the responsible for the jokes only Ace laughs at. They all also have a superjump, may slow down the fall, have (clumsy) martial art techniques... and fly, off course. In the movie, the enemy is is a mad scientist (why not?) who converts people into androids. The rockstar superheroes must save the day by fighting inside an amusement park. Everyhing with bad acting and poor visual effects. Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss all hate the movie. Well, it's somewhat funny, but really not nice at all.
- DirectorJunpei MizusakiStarsKôichi YamaderaWataru TakagiAi KakumaBatman, along with a number of his allies and adversaries, finds himself transplanted from modern Gotham City to feudal Japan. This film has many problems (SPOILER ALERT). To begin, it looks like videogame, both in its vusual animation choices (I hated the way some villains and other characters were presented as a game menu) and in its flat story. Besides that, there was a different path from good "Gotham by Gaslight", which was an alternative version of classic characters as if they existed in Victorian England: in "Batman Ninja", there is a time trip to feudal Japan. There is no problem on this, and it could have worked, but, then, why the hell there are characters that are shown as if they were Japanese, like Bane?! I also considered it a quite stupid idea to put Poison Ivy against the Penguin and Gorilla Grodd against Two-Faces in super sentai mecha fights (even worse is the giant mech composed by five batvillains' mechas under the Joker's control fighting the giant samurai made of an army of monkeys afterwards transformed in a giant Batman by the inclusion of hundreds os bats!?!). The sountrack has many particularly awful moments too.
- DirectorChris R. NotarileStarsBryan BockbraderJeremy CravenDeanna MillerFollowing the Joker during his twisted beginnings after his disfigurement, we find the clown prince of crime working as a hit man. Still rough around the edges and not as refined as we know him to be, the Joker and Harley Quinn go on a job to silence a cop who's been asking too many questions.Unconvincing. At least the homage to "A Clockwork Orange" was nice. You can form your own opinion by watching this short film here: http://youtu.be/kLoDK06ZGQM
- DirectorJon WattsStarsTom HollandMichael KeatonRobert Downey Jr.Peter Parker balances his life as an ordinary high school student in Queens with his superhero alter-ego Spider-Man, and finds himself on the trail of a new menace prowling the skies of New York City.Review: This is the worst official Spiderman movie ever produced. Indeed, it is much more a mix of a silly high school film and an Iron Man film. This Spiderman has very little of Spiderman. First of all, instead of having extreme reflexes, he is quite clumsy, what is nonsense and made the film a bad slapstick comedy. Besides that, what the hell is that Iron Man-like suit with many powers not traditionally related to the spider? Therefore, the fact that this is not really a Spiderman film is bad enough not to consider it a good movie. Though, there are many other problems: most of the action scenes are confusing (like the scenes Transformers franchise bad recent films use to have), there is an excess of jokes with more than 90% of them being bad and silly, acting is unconvincing for most of the main roles (Michael Keaton is clearly an exception)... The movie gets better in the final part, but it is definitely not enough to save it. SPOILER ALERT: By the way: MJ's name is Michelle? Really?!

It is not a good idea to make superhero or action movies with astounding visual effects but a poor screenplay.
The first part of the movie (12 minutes) is a quite good action flick. Then, the title "Avengers" appears and the film gets worse and worse. Indeed, the visual effects throughout the movie are amazingly well done, extremely realistic and numerous (three thousand of them!), and many people, particularly youngsters, think that this is the most important thing in a superhero film (then rejecting many nice movies which lack those amazing visual effects or that fast pace or that amount of explicit violence), but I strongly disagree: the story is always the most important element... and this one is poor! In my opinion, most of the time "Avengers 2" is a bit boring, there are many silly dialogs, lots of unfunny gags, and the black-green romance is cheesy, besides having no previous development (the chat about having or not a future together is specially pathetic). Talking about the good traits, Robert Downey Jr. was the best again. The scene in the train with Captain America and the twins was also nice, and so are some fights. Though, the film overall sucks. Is is a shame that Hollywood action movies are spending more and more in technology at expense of good screenplays. The films from the second phase of Marvel cinematic universe (this one, "Thor: the dark world" and "Guardians of the Galaxy" are awful, and I also include here "Avengers 1") are much worse (so poor stories! so focused only in visual effects!) than the ones made up to "Captain America: The first Avenger" (this one and "Iron Man" are particularly good). - DirectorLee SholemStarsGeorge ReevesPhyllis CoatesJeff CoreyWhen underground beings explore the surface world from a deep oil well and inadvertently cause a panic, only Superman can prevent a tragedy.Review: This was probably the first feature-length superhero film ever made. It has some serious flaws, that are not related to the unsophisticated visual effects of that time (which are not a problem; indeed, they are interesting to see).
First of all, it had not a great story. Do not expect an interesting opponent like Lex Luthor or the Kryptonian criminals from the Phantom Zone.
Besides that, it is amazing how little was the time spent to show Superman. We see Clark Kent all the time, but the caped superhero, perhaps because of technical difficulties to show him flying, does not appear very much.
The third serious flaw is just related to Clark Kent. George Reeves portrays him so proud that one cannot be convinced that the journalist was a disguise to avoid people knowing he was Superman.
The film is historically significant, but it is certainly not good. When we see George Reeves as the man of steel, the importance of Christopher Reeve for the superhero becomes really flagrant. - DirectorDonald F. GlutStarsDonald F. One of the best enemies of Batman, Riddler, perfect for a realistic movie (imagine: all Gotham will die if Batman do not solve the riddle), was shown as a clown. Two Face is a little better, but is also dressed for carnival. The movie wants to be as campy as the series from the 60's, but it is much less charming. Besides that, after "Batman" and "Batman Returns" it was not time to try something like this anymore. The only nice part was the death of the Graysons.

Years afterwards I watched part of it again on television and had a completely different opinion. It is a quite innovative film for the genre, with some smart dialogues. Visual effects are no bad as I considered for the first time (well, some of them are, like the horrible CGI master demon); the way Spawn's black costume appears and connects to his body is nice. The blue clown demon Violator seemed to be awful when I saw images of him before watching the movie; after watching it for the first time I thought it not good, but still the best thing in the film; now I consider him a very funny and interesting character.

This is neither a great film, nor an important one. Nevertheless, it is far from the ridiculous movie I was waiting for. It is a spoof, a quite anarchic and experimental spoof, and no one can judge this movie not taking it on consideration in the first place. Acting is bad and the movie is neither amusing nor artistically sophisticate to deserve a high rating. Though, there are some funny moments (the best gig is the way Rat Pfink deals with his black cape) and it is not a bad movie after all. The film can be divided in two - the first half without the masked heroes and the second one with them fighting the gang - and the sudden change from one to the other is quite weird. Indeed, it was not intended since the beginning by producers. Campiness is absolute, as is expected by a parody of an already campy franchise (60's Batman and Robin).

Is it naive and simplistic, but not more than many films that have a much higher budget and are seen in theaters. Victor Von Doom is really ridiculous, so are some romantic scenes, but not all the film is as bad.
The Thing is visually nice, the special effects are campy but not disgusting, the Jeweler is somewhat a representative of a kind of villain which belonged to the previous decade (to the 80's). Though, he is an unmasked vigilante who commits crimes. So, why to consider him a superhero (or something close to that definition)? Well, Jigsaw and Loony Bin Jim are criminals with a supervillain style, and the Punisher is a character that exists in the same universe as many famous superheroes. Therefore, by tradition, I decided to include this film among superhero movies, although it does not fit perfectly. The story is not innovative but is OK; the major problem is that there is a dangerous trivialization of violence both as aesthetics and as a way to solve problems. The film about the Punisher released four years before, which is better, has not entered my superhero film lists as I consider it more as an action film about a revenge.

After creating a Superman who doesn't behave as Superman for disappointing "Man of Steel", the franchise includes in its sequel a Lex Luthor who does not look like Lex Luthor (shaving his long hair is not enough as his psychological traits are also different) and an Aquaman who does not look like Aquaman (indeed, he reminds Marvel's Namor). Ben Affleck's Batman is not bad and did look and fight like Batman (the warehouse scene is a perfect representation of his fighting style)... at least until putting on that horrible armor which looks like a new suit for Iron Man. Besides that, the story is tepid and nothing is remarkable (even Gal Gadot didn't really shine, not giving Wonder Woman a great debut in spite of nice fighting skills). Talking about fights, the struggle between Gotham's dark night and Smallville adopted son, expected to be a climax in the movie, is completely implausible, as there is no explanation for Wayne's extreme strength and no reason for Superman losing and recovering his superstrength under effect of kryptonite continuously, as if it blinked. - DirectorDavid AyerStarsWill SmithJared LetoMargot RobbieA secret government agency recruits some of the most dangerous incarcerated super-villains to form a defensive task force. Their first mission: save the world from the apocalypse.Review: Colorless squad in a confusing fast paced conventional adventure: It is a confusing film, and that is not because it is complex but because it is not well developed. Characters are underdeveloped. Image is too dark making harder to understand what is going on, what is worsened by the video clip pace. There are serious problems in edition - a good example is when Harley Quinn is thrown out by nothing as the blow was not against hers. After the so promising ads and trailers, I really expected much more colorful characters. The background of the characters is not carefully explored because they are numerous and the movie is in a hurry; it is only explained (at best; sometimes even this does not happen). Therefore, spectator just sees, does not feel, as there is no time for dramatic impact. Harley Quinn is by far the most interesting character; indeed, I would rather watch a Harley Quinn movie than this film. Deadshot and Rick Flag are the most consistent ones, with the best developed backgrounds, but they are far from being among the nicest characters in DC pantheon, right? Diablo is visually quite nice and becomes more interesting as the story advances, but his drama about using his power does not convince and bores. The Joker is not bad, and his visual is nice (I liked the smile on the hand) but he does not frighten and does not laugh, what is not true to the character (besides that, most of the deleted scenes seem to show him and Harley, what is a waste). I saw many people praising Amanda Waller as a great villainess; OK, she does well, but she is not that special either. Killer Croc is visually excellent but is quite unimportant in the film. Enchantress and her brother are not bad and their magic has not been odd inside the story as I was afraid, but a better direction would be required to have them as the really big threats they are supposed to be. Captain Boomerang, Katana and Slipknot are the worst; uninteresting, they are there just to increase the number of members in the crew. The whole melodrama and slow motion in the final battle suck, but the very last three scenes after that are good.
