overrated
Some generally loved movies that I either didn't like or just thought were okay. Of course these are just my opinions and everyone can have different ones.

- DirectorTamra DavisStarsAdam SandlerDarren McGavinBridgette Wilson-SamprasIn order to inherit his fed up father's hotel empire, an immature and lazy man must repeat grades 1-12 all over again.Never been a fan of Adam Sandler's comedies. Even when I was a kid I thought this one was completely stupid.
Also Happy Gilmore, Wedding Singer, Big Daddy... - DirectorKathryn BigelowStarsJeremy RennerAnthony MackieBrian GeraghtyDuring the Iraq War, a Sergeant recently assigned to an army bomb squad is put at odds with his squad mates due to his maverick way of handling his work.Good, but not best picture good. In fact, I just thought it was okay.
- DirectorRidley ScottStarsJosh HartnettEwan McGregorTom SizemoreThe story of 160 elite U.S. soldiers who dropped into Mogadishu in October 1993 to capture two top lieutenants of a renegade warlord, but found themselves in a desperate battle with a large force of heavily armed Somalis.Again, okay, but not that amazing for me. The characters were some ridiculous caricatures and stereotypes of Americans. The patriotism and fight for my brother stuff felt a bit cheesy. The action was good, but otherwise... meh.
- DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsRobert De NiroRay LiottaJoe PesciThe story of Henry Hill and his life in the mafia, covering his relationship with his wife Karen and his mob partners Jimmy Conway and Tommy DeVito. To be fair, i've never liked mobster movies. They're movies that expect you to care what happens to completely unlikable and evil people.
- DirectorAndrew NiccolStarsNicolas CageEthan HawkeJared LetoAn arms dealer confronts the morality of his work as he is being chased by an INTERPOL Agent.I might just need to give it another watch, but the first time around something was just missing for me. Never got why it's so loved. Felt... empty?
- DirectorPierre MorelStarsLiam NeesonMaggie GraceFamke JanssenA retired CIA agent travels across Europe and relies on his old skills to save his estranged daughter, who has been kidnapped while on a trip to Paris.Good action movie, but people went too crazy over it.
- DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsRobert De NiroSharon StoneJoe PesciIn Las Vegas, two best friends - a casino executive and a mafia enforcer - compete for a gambling empire and a fast-living, fast-loving socialite.See Goodfellas above.
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsLiam NeesonRalph FiennesBen KingsleyIn German-occupied Poland during World War II, industrialist Oskar Schindler gradually becomes concerned for his Jewish workforce after witnessing their persecution by the Nazis.I feel conflicted about this one. Watched it for the first time several months back. Some parts I was just bored. There are other, better holocaust pictures out there. It was good and it might be important, but not as amazing as some might have you believe.
- DirectorStanley KubrickStarsMalcolm McDowellPatrick MageeMichael BatesIn the future, a sadistic gang leader is imprisoned and volunteers for a conduct-aversion experiment, but it doesn't go as planned.I absolutely LOVE Kubrick, but this movie just made me feel gross. Well-made, but I don't much like demented torture-porn.
- DirectorBrian De PalmaStarsKevin CostnerSean ConneryRobert De NiroDuring Prohibition, Treasury agent Eliot Ness sets out to stop ruthless Chicago gangster Al Capone, and assembles a small, incorruptible team to help him. Some parts and dialogue are just cheesy. I don't think it's held up too well.
- DirectorZack SnyderStarsHenry CavillAmy AdamsMichael ShannonAn alien child is evacuated from his dying world and sent to Earth to live among humans. His peace is threatened when other survivors of his home planet invade Earth.Uggghhhh, I HATED IT. The special effects and the action were awesome and, actually, all of the action was pretty good. I thought Michael Shannon was FANTASTIC as the villain. But the movie just moved way too fast. There was absolutely no character or plot development. We didn't even get to see what the people of earth thought of the idea of imminent doom at the hands of an alien as well as their only possible savior being an alien. Zach Snyder really let me down with this one. But, I am completely aware of how deep in the minority I am with this one.
- DirectorBobby FarrellyPeter FarrellyStarsCameron DiazMatt DillonBen StillerA man gets a chance to meet up with his dream girl from high school, even though his date with her back then was a complete disaster.Just thought it was dumb.
- DirectorNeill BlomkampStarsSharlto CopleyDavid JamesJason CopeViolence ensues after an extraterrestrial race forced to live in slum-like conditions on Earth finds a kindred spirit in a government agent exposed to their biotechnology.Good, but people acted like it was the best sci-fi film ever. Some really cool special effects and some cool ideas, but for me it landed short of memorable.
- StarsRichard ThomasTim ReidAnnette O'TooleIn 1960, seven pre-teen outcasts fight an evil demon who poses as a child-killing clown. Thirty years later, they reunite to stop the demon once and for all when it returns to their hometown.Made for TV, but I'm counting it. I think the problem was that I didn't see it til I was about 15 and well into zombie movies. So it was insanely unscary.
- DirectorOliver StoneStarsCharlie SheenTom BerengerWillem DafoeChris Taylor, a neophyte recruit in Vietnam, finds himself caught in a battle of wills between two sergeants, one good and the other evil. A shrewd examination of the brutality of war and the duality of man in conflict. The last time I watched it it just struck me as kind of cheesy and very dated. There are better Nam movies like Hamburger Hill or The Boys in Company C.
- DirectorTobe HooperStarsMarilyn BurnsEdwin NealAllen DanzigerFive friends head out to rural Texas to visit the grave of a grandfather. On the way they stumble across what appears to be a deserted house, only to discover something sinister within. Something armed with a chainsaw.Torture porn. I guess the director was taking audiences to a deeper, darker level, but I don't need to see people get terrorized and hacked up by inbred rednecks, do I? Plus the whole thing is screaming and cackling and chainsaw buzzing.
- DirectorSergio LeoneStarsClint EastwoodGian Maria VolontèMarianne KochA wandering gunfighter plays two rival families against each other in a town torn apart by greed, pride, and revenge.Never been a fan of spaghetti westerns. Awful acting and I just can't get over the voice dubbing.
- DirectorGavin HoodStarsHugh JackmanLiev SchreiberRyan ReynoldsThe early years of James Logan, featuring his rivalry with his brother Victor Creed, his service in the special forces team Weapon X, and his experimentation into the metal-lined mutant Wolverine. One of the most disappointing movies I've ever seen. It was so awful. The only good thing about it was showing Gambit for like ten minutes. The sequel, however, was pretty good.
- DirectorJoe CarnahanStarsJeremy PivenRyan ReynoldsRay LiottaWhen a Las Vegas performer-turned-snitch named Buddy Israel decides to turn state's evidence and testify against the mob, it seems that a whole lot of people would like to make sure he's no longer breathing.I was so ready to love this one. It had everything it needed to be amazing, but it just fell flat for me. The ingredients didn't gel somehow. I probably need to give it another go, but I was bummed the first time around. Something just seemed to be missing.
- DirectorKirsten SheridanStarsFreddie HighmoreKeri RussellJonathan Rhys MeyersA musically gifted orphan, Evan, runs away from his orphanage and searches New York City for his birth parents. On his journey, he's taken under the wing of the Wizard, a homeless man who lives in an abandoned theater.Struck me as super cheesy and super sappy. I'm okay with an emotional tearjerker, but this one was just trying so hard to tug on heart strings. Some corny acting and dialogue as well. Music was really good, though.
- DirectorBong Joon HoStarsChris EvansJamie BellTilda SwintonIn a future where a failed climate change experiment has killed all life except for the survivors who boarded the Snowpiercer (a train that travels around the globe), a new class system emerges.Like District 9, this is a sci-fi movie that seems to be getting way more love than it deserves. It was good - I enjoyed it. But it wasn't all that memorable. I wonder whether we're letting our standards fall for sci-fi or horror. I'm pretty easy when it comes to being entertained - but, at best, that's all this movie was: entertaining.
