- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsChristian BaleTom HardyAnne HathawayEight years after the Joker's reign of chaos, Batman is coerced out of exile with the assistance of the mysterious Selina Kyle in order to defend Gotham City from the vicious guerrilla terrorist Bane. Now, I realize this movie gets a bad rep for being not as good as the other two films by Christopher Nolan, but, watching it in IMAX first time, this is one of those few second sequels that I honestly loved more than the first 2. I really loved the way Nolan ended the story arc of Batman and he concluded it in such a perfect way and I really loved the performances of Christian Bale, Tom hardy, Anne hathaway, and everyone else that do a superb job and I liked how the movie felt more bleak in tone and really had the stakes up higher. I've seen this movie 3 times and it gets better and better for me. I also loved the other 2 films too, but, this one is my absolute favorite out of all of them.
- DirectorQuentin TarantinoStarsJamie FoxxChristoph WaltzLeonardo DiCaprioWith the help of a German bounty-hunter, a freed slave sets out to rescue his wife from a brutal plantation owner in Mississippi.Quentin Tarantino does it again and captures his style of a western very outstanding and this is one of the most bloodiest westerns' I've ever seen and it's just such a phenomenal film. The writing is top notch, the performances, especially from Leonardo Dicaprio as Calvin Candie really succeeded my expectations and I really think he deserves an Oscar for best supporting actor in this one. The soundtrack is very great too with Tarantino selecting a lot of 70s tunes along with some well known western tunes from Ennio Morricone, and even has the original Django theme. I also admired how Tarantino put more comedy elements in too like he usually does in his films.
- DirectorJoss WhedonStarsRobert Downey Jr.Chris EvansScarlett JohanssonEarth's mightiest heroes must come together and learn to fight as a team if they are going to stop the mischievous Loki and his alien army from enslaving humanity. One of the most anticipated blockbusters of the summer, this movie was everything I wanted to see for a comic book film. It has great interactions with the main characters, a well put together story, great direction from Joss Whedon, has a lot of funny parts in it, and best of all, it has each character pretty much having their own storyline going on within just 2 and a half hours. Really excited for the second one to come out.
- DirectorSimon WestStarsSylvester StalloneLiam HemsworthRandy CoutureMr. Church reunites the Expendables for what should be an easy paycheck, but when one of their men is murdered on the job, their quest for revenge puts them deep in enemy territory and up against an unexpected threat. This to me is the dream movie I've always wanted to see ever since I was a kid. Stallone did a really great job getting all of these 80s and 90s action stars together for the first time again and made the movie one of the best throwbacks I've seen and one of the best action movies I've ever watched. Seeing Arnold, Chuck, Bruce, Sly, Statham, and all them together on screen was a dream come true and I was really glad to see Van Damme back on the big screen after the direct to dvd movies he's starred in for years now and he was really outstanding as the lead villain and his fight with Stallone reminded me when Bruce Lee fought Chuck Norris in Way of the dragon. The humor was really great too especially when seeing Arnold back doing spouting off one liners again after a while. Really hope a 3rd one gets made with Clint Eastwood, Jackie Chan, and if possible, Steven Seagal.
- DirectorPeter JacksonStarsMartin FreemanIan McKellenRichard ArmitageA reluctant Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, sets out to the Lonely Mountain with a spirited group of dwarves to reclaim their mountain home and the gold within it from the dragon Smaug. As a first part of a prequel trilogy, Jackson really shines in this epic adventure tying into the Lord Of The Rings. Martin Freeman was really great as Bilbo Baggins, Ian Mckellan was also great as he always is as Gandolf the Grey, and I even liked the guy who played the lead dwarf Thorin. This movie was wonderful watching in IMAX 3D the first time and I really admired how Jackson put together a very simple, yet convuluted adventure of the journey for Bilbo to confront the Smaug Dragon. The 3D was really good too. There were parts where I really felt like I was there on this journey and it looked spectacular especially this scene with the eagles. Cant wait to see how the second part will be like. Oh and I saw the movie in just 24fps. I'm curious how the 48fps would be like.
- DirectorSeth MacFarlaneStarsMark WahlbergMila KunisSeth MacFarlaneJohn Bennett, a man whose childhood wish of bringing his teddy bear to life came true, now must decide between keeping the relationship with the bear, Ted or his girlfriend, Lori.I used to watch Family Guy a lot when I was little, but, after a while, it got pretty old with it's humor, but, with TED, I was really enjoying myself with this movie and for Seth McFaralane's first movie, I really laughed so hard in the theater and had a really good time. Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis and Seth himself were so funny in this movie and I really liked how it was like a reunion for Flash Gordon and it was great seeing Sam Jones in it and partying out. lol. But yea, I'm really curious what Seth McFarlane does next and I'd say if you're a fan of his work on American Dad! and his other shows, definitively check it out.
- DirectorRidley ScottStarsNoomi RapaceLogan Marshall-GreenMichael FassbenderFollowing clues to the origin of mankind, a team finds a structure on a distant moon, but they soon realize they are not alone.Ridley Scott is back to science fiction and just to summarize briefly without spoilers, I really loved the performances of Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace, and Charlize Theron and the 3D was one of the most gorgeously looking 3D films I've seen next to Hugo. The movie does have some ignorant characters, sure, but, I got past that and I really admired how Scott made this into more of a 2 act movie and I'm curious what he's doing for the sequel rumored to be titled "PARADISE".
- DirectorJoe CarnahanStarsLiam NeesonDermot MulroneyFrank GrilloAfter their plane crashes in Alaska, six oil workers are led by a skilled huntsman to survival, but a pack of merciless wolves haunts their every step.Just to summarize briefly: Liam Neeson surviving out in the mountains from wolves? I'm sold. This movie is more than that though. If I was to watch this in IMAX, I would really feel the intensity and drama that him and these other characters go through in order to live from these vicious wolves.
- DirectorScott DerricksonStarsEthan HawkeJuliet RylanceJames RansoneA controversial true-crime writer finds a box of Super 8 home movies in his new home, revealing that the murder case he is currently researching could be the work of an unknown serial killer whose legacy dates back to the 1960s.You may be wondering why I put a horror movie on here? Well, let me just say that for this movie, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and this is one of those few horror movies I watched that had a really well done story and almost original for it's place and I really felt the mystery that Ethan hawke's character solves going through the limits of watching these snuff films and the ending was one of the most twisted and gruesome endings I've watched that honestly I did not see coming.
- DirectorSam MendesStarsDaniel CraigJavier BardemNaomie HarrisJames Bond's loyalty to M is tested when her past comes back to haunt her. When MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.I'll be honest, I wast really much of a fan of Daniel Craig's James Bond when he first appeared in Casino Royale, but, as time progressed, I realized that for a reboot of the James Bond series, he really brought a very realistic and genuine take on the character and for Skyfall, he truly brings that to it. I really liked this movie and this to me is how I felt about The Dark Knight in terms of themes: has a very great villain, a darker more realistic story for Bond, a tragic event that gets to Bond, and best of all, it actually has a pretty good theme song I enjoyed. Names bond, James Bond.
