Top 5 most disappointing films of 2012
These aren't films I disliked necessarily, they're just films that I thought I was going to like a lot more. Many times it's a movie that I was really looking forward to that I might just have over-hyped in my mind.

- DirectorRidley ScottStarsNoomi RapaceLogan Marshall-GreenMichael FassbenderFollowing clues to the origin of mankind, a team finds a structure on a distant moon, but they soon realize they are not alone.Prometheus is one of the films that I couldn't stop discussing after I walked out of the theater. There's just so much to the Alien mythology that is left open. The best part of the film is some of the great discussions it has generated.
The bad part is that it wasn't nearly as good as it could have been. I'm a huge fan of the Alien franchise and I was really excited to see Prometheus. Unfortunately, the pacing of the film is really deliberate. I could have used a few more action scenes and some more scenes that build tension.
Two bright spots were Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender. Fassbender plays the chilling android David. He's an integral part of the story and debating whether or not his actions are for good or evil can fill hours of time. - DirectorMartin McDonaghStarsColin FarrellWoody HarrelsonSam RockwellA struggling screenwriter inadvertently becomes entangled in the Los Angeles criminal underworld after his oddball friends kidnap a gangster's beloved Shih Tzu.I was really looking forward to Seven Psychopaths once I learned that Martin McDonagh was directing it. He previously directed In Bruges, which happens to be one of my favorite films.
I was also excited about the cast that was comprised of some of my favorite actors: Collin Farrell, Woody Harrelson, Christopher Walken and Sam Rockewell. The film is far from bad, but it just wasn't what I expected. The story kind of putters out and didn't go in the direction I was hoping. - DirectorTony GilroyStarsJeremy RennerRachel WeiszEdward NortonAn expansion of the universe from Robert Ludlum's novels, centered on a new hero whose stakes have been triggered by the events of the previous three films.I love the Bourne franchise and Matt Damon is my favorite actor. I didn't really think it was necessary to make another Bourne movie, but once I heard Jeremy Renner was going to be in it, I thought it could be a welcome addition to the franchise.
In the end, The Bourne Legacy just doesn't have the same frenetic feel that the other films had. Also, the story gets boiled down to a guy looking for drugs. - DirectorJohn HillcoatStarsTom HardyShia LaBeoufGuy PearceSet in Depression-era Franklin County, Virginia, a trio of bootlegging brothers are threatened by a new special deputy and other authorities angling for a cut of their profits.Tom Hardy is one of my favorite new actors and Jessica Chastain is one of my favorite actresses. I don't loathe Shia LeBeouf like some people do. The rest of the cast is rounded off by two great actors, Guy Pearce and Gary Oldman.
Unfortunately, Gary Oldman's character will go down as one of the biggest wastes of a great actor in the history of cinema. He's literally in 2 scenes and they have little to no impact on the story.
Lawless just couldn't get off the ground for me. The one bright spot is a nude scene by Jessica Chastain. It makes the film worth watching. What? There's nothing wrong with that. - DirectorSteven SoderberghStarsGina CaranoEwan McGregorMichael FassbenderA black ops super soldier seeks payback after she is betrayed and set up during a mission.Another film with a great cast and a great director (Steven Soderbergh). I think the grand plan was to turn Gina Carano into the next huge female action star. This won't be the film to do that, but Carano certainly has great on screen charisma. She also kicks but and looks good doing it.
The story is kind of muddled and slows down to a screech at times. Soderbergh went with an odd 70's vibe that just felt out of place.
Haywire is a lot better than most people give it credit for, but it could have been better. Once again, Michael Fassbender gives a great performance as a hitman.
(Haywire was released on January 20, 2012 despite what it says above.)
