- DirectorTerrence MalickStarsBrad PittSean PennJessica ChastainThe story of a family in Waco, Texas in 1956. The eldest son witnesses the loss of innocence and struggles with his parents' conflicting teachings.this is possibly the best of the decade and the finest work of Terence Malik, the form is unusual and slow but not a single moment i blinked my eyes, and it's not only about the visuals but also about someone's spiritual journey to understand himself, his life, and the world. one of the best experience i've ever had watching a movie.
- DirectorLars von TrierStarsCharlotte GainsbourgStellan SkarsgårdWillem DafoeThe continuation of Joe's sexually dictated life delves into the darker aspects of her adulthood, obsessions and what led to her being in Seligman's care.this film i think (along with the volum. I) is the best film by Trier since Breaking the Waves. when you think that film like Peeping Tom is the best example of understanding and symphatizing people with disorder, then this film will do the exact job but also made you wanna run away from it as fast as possible. the spectrum of emotions that i feel when watching this film is like eating in a big feast of different kinds of foods from different kinds of nation, it made me sick, sad, happy, laugh, depressed, symphatize, then sick again, and aroused both in good and bad way.
- DirectorRichard LinklaterStarsEllar ColtranePatricia ArquetteEthan HawkeThe life of Mason, from early childhood to his arrival at college.the film taste like wine, it took 12 years through the bittersweet of the production and risking a lot of things in the process, and it reflected in the film. there's a plot in this film although it's not in a traditional sense of hollywood nor in the infamous variety of european form, the film is not only reflecting life but life itself, it flows freely and unpredictable, it doesn't have a dramatic film trick nor ending. it leave me with wanting to know more about his life more than i wanna know mine, or the kardashians lol.
- DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsAndrew GarfieldAdam DriverLiam NeesonIn the 17th century, two Portuguese Jesuit priests travel to Japan in an attempt to locate their mentor, who is rumored to have committed apostasy, and to propagate Catholicism.the film is in my top 5 best Scorsese films, every atheist would probably laugh out loud at this film on how naive the character is throughout the film, it's a beautiful and heartbreaking tale of belief and the people who possessed it, there could be two interpretation of the film, the one is the naive ones and the other is a more scientific one. either way, it really showed to the audience on how the power belief could shape a person's life.
- DirectorAsghar FarhadiStarsPayman MaadiLeila HatamiSareh BayatA married couple are faced with a difficult decision - to improve the life of their child by moving to another country or to stay in Iran and look after a deteriorating parent who has Alzheimer's disease.the casts were all superb, takes a professional actors to perform as well as these performances. the writer and director digs deeper and deeper into human traits and their three dimensions and plays with them and end up to be a brilliant and honest storytelling. they're not afraid to embarrassed the characters and that what makes it so honest about this picture.
- DirectorMichael HanekeStarsJean-Louis TrintignantEmmanuelle RivaIsabelle HuppertGeorges and Anne are an octogenarian couple. They are cultivated, retired music teachers. Their daughter, also a musician, lives in Britain with her family. One day, Anne has a stroke, and the couple's bond of love is severely tested.forget about romeo and juliet, this is the real deal. now this is some serious *beep* here, one of the most heartbreaking film i've ever seen. hands down to haneke for his mind because his films is that good (Cache, White Ribbon) and this is probably and arguably his best
- DirectorDestin Daniel CrettonStarsBrie LarsonFrantz TurnerJohn Gallagher Jr.A 20-something supervising staff member of a residential treatment facility navigates the troubled waters of that world alongside her co-worker and longtime boyfriend.one of the best films about troubled kids. took place in a foster-care facility for at-risk teenagers where of course the place filled with troubled kids with worse even worst situation at home. there are 4 staffs at the place but 1 is the main focus on the film, she is Grace, a staff that looks like any other staff that has a relationship with another staff and one of the best supervising staff because she can handle the kids. but beyond all those things, she has a scar that actually made her better at her work but refuse to go any further with her boyfriend when they find out about a baby, the reason of all that is maybe one of the most shocking and heartbreaking. just see for yourself
- DirectorLars von TrierStarsMatt DillonBruno GanzUma ThurmanIn five episodes, failed architect and vicious sociopath Jack recounts his elaborately orchestrated murders -- each, as he views them, a towering work of art that defines his life's work as a serial killer in the Pacific Northwest.this film is really about art and how people receive it, the kind that Jack made is the forbidden one, the sublime artwork hidden away in the old cathedral for only god to see. in an interview, Trier said that Jack's character is close to him except that he doesn't kill people, meaning that the kind of art that Trier made is something that the art police (my surname for critics and their politicaly correct issue) would dismiss, despite that, the real film critic loved this film, and i admire it not for being artsy-fartsy (it's not, but a lot of people think that it is just because of the symbolism and such) but as a pure expression of self, no politics, no propaganda, just a depiction and a detail of a man whom destined to hell.
- DirectorLenny AbrahamsonStarsBrie LarsonJacob TremblaySean BridgersA little boy is held captive in a room with his mother since his birth, so he has never known the world outside.have never experienced something like this before, it's because there's never been something like this before. the story, the plot, the actors, the direction, it is so strong it should win every awards. the film is a REAL success to showed a world in a child's eyes which is a very innocent world when in fact it is a really messed up world.
- DirectorLuca GuadagninoStarsTimothée ChalametArmie HammerMichael StuhlbargIn 1980s Italy, romance blossoms between a seventeen-year-old student and the older man hired as his father's research assistant.FINALLY! it's rare to see such a beautiful same-sex love story without being too political about it. it really is about first love more than about gay love. and it has a perfect cast. it's also rare to see a film about a growing love without being cheesy about it. every scene that was played out felt so natural and even some scene somehow felt very poetic. another film that would portray a state of falling in love as almost perfect as this is Leon Morin, Priest. it was about an atheist who fall in love with a priest. and both are two of my favorite films.
- DirectorMichael Dudok de WitStarsEmmanuel GarijoTom HudsonBaptiste GoyA man is shipwrecked on a deserted island and encounters a big red turtle, which changes his life.one of the most beautiful film i've ever watched. it's beautiful yet heartbreaking. the film didn't feature any dialog, matter of fact there are no cast in imdb page yet still i can feel all the emotions that the film is giving us. and how cool it is that ghibli is also a part of this film.
- DirectorOrson WellesStarsJohn HustonOja KodarPeter BogdanovichAt a media-swamped party to celebrate his 70th birthday and screen his avant-garde film-in-progress, a legendary but jaded Hollywood director is faced both with voracious fans and unsettling questions about what became of his lead actor.with the fast paced shots (just like any welles's films) packed with dialogues that might be 90 percent improvised or added spontaneously, this elusive masterpiece described and parodied not only Orson himself but also the natural state of the film industry whether it's the 70's and even now. the movie buffs, critics, the directors, the midgets, and the young juices, played like a never ending dream sequence orchestrated by god himself, Welles.
- DirectorRonit ElkabetzShlomi ElkabetzStarsRonit ElkabetzSimon AbkarianGabi AmraniAfter a lukewarm marriage of over twenty years, a woman appeals to her husband's compassion to obtain the desirable divorce document in front of a court, which proves to be more challenging than she would expect.it's about two things, religious rules that disadvantage one being, and troubled person hiding behind it. a woman in Israel could get a divorce if the husband gave it to her, now of course there's no reason to get a divorce if the wife is a happy person living as a wife and mother and to be that person of course the husband should gave her the daily food and everything and the wife should be the wife every man wanted to. now i called that 'system' that has been fed by a lot of people from a long time ago especially in certain countries. to watch this film is to say to everybody that 'it's not that simple'. the system could be a dangerous weapon to hurt others, you gotta watch this film.
- DirectorAng LeeStarsSuraj SharmaIrrfan KhanAdil HussainA young man who survives a disaster at sea is hurtled into an epic journey of adventure and discovery. While cast away, he forms an unexpected connection with another survivor: a fearsome Bengal tiger.once again Ang Lee proves us that he is among those great directors from the beginning of filmmaking until now, he is the best director of our generation in my opinion. Chinese martial art, marvel superhero, british period drama, cowboy love, and now Indian culture, they're all never failed.
- DirectorNuri Bilge CeylanStarsDogu DemirkolMurat CemcirBennu YildirimlarAn unpublished writer returns to his hometown after graduating, where he seeks sponsors to publish his book while dealing with his father's deteriorating indulgence into gambling.the film depicted a cliche plot of life that happen everywhere in the world that nobody in hollywood would ever produce. it's a loser story, something that might not be "inspiring", "uplifting", and just plain depressing and plays at key minor at an instrument (even tho there's some note changes at the end). it's a taboo song that people often treat as a myth. it's like discovering Bicycle Thieves and Mouchette once again.
- DirectorDavid FincherStarsJesse EisenbergAndrew GarfieldJustin TimberlakeAs Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg creates the social networking site that would become known as Facebook, he is sued by the twins who claimed he stole their idea and by the co-founder who was later squeezed out of the business.here is a person who meet the requirements as the youngest millionaire in the world. as portrayed in the film, he's someone who think that he is a nerd and tried to be a jerk, he used every trick and did every move to his benefit but with less caring of others (even his bestfriend) and even step into his success out of anger of her ex breaking with him and called him a**hole, he use other person's idea and expand it and invent it under his name. but he talk fast, think fast, and have a brain of a person could get once a decade. and the film made me realize that we still have a chance not only to have millions of dollar like Mark Zuckerberg or to have 500 million friends but a chance to live and to learn and to win.
- DirectorDamien ChazelleStarsMiles TellerJ.K. SimmonsMelissa BenoistA promising young drummer enrolls at a cut-throat music conservatory where his dreams of greatness are mentored by an instructor who will stop at nothing to realize a student's potential.Whiplash or should i call the unexpected virtue of going overboard? lol, which for me is more brilliant than Birdman. this film is about people who push their bounderies not to become the next Charlie Parker, but become their own great name. and it's amazing to see that. and about that last scene is a heart pounding beyond anything, and that's how it feels like to do beyond boundaries.
- DirectorDenis VilleneuveStarsAmy AdamsJeremy RennerForest WhitakerA linguist works with the military to communicate with alien lifeforms after twelve mysterious spacecraft appear around the world.there are several films that tried to look smart but only made them look stupid (people will hate me for this but yeah... Interstellar, The Usual Suspect). but this one tried to look smart and as much as i want to see some holes and other ridiculous things, i gotta admit that this is a smart film that tried to be smart, so it's cocky, but in a good way lol, it's a freaking good film!. but not only smart, it also got a great human story, great writing, great direction, etc. simply one of the best sci-fi film ever.
- DirectorAdam McKayStarsChristian BaleSteve CarellRyan GoslingIn 2006-2007 a group of investors bet against the United States mortgage market. In their research, they discover how flawed and corrupt the market is.the film is a breath of fresh air in the year 2015. the characters are very interesting as well as the story. there's no hero in this story, the film ends with a lot of americans lose their job and their houses. but the story didn't need a hero. it needs to speak through the film what is the real's REAL!
- DirectorAlice RohrwacherStarsAdriano TardioloAgnese GrazianiAlba RohrwacherAn unceasingly kind Italian peasant and his family are blatantly exploited by a tobacco baroness.Happy as Lazzaro reminded me of old european films like Miracle in Milan, Au Hasard Balthazar, and more, it has it's pureness that no hollywood film can touch. the way logic works in this film didn't go in line with marvel films, Peter Parker becomes Spider-Man because a spider, Tony Stark becomes Iron Man because of money, and Lazzaro becomes Lazzaro because he is a good guy, i mean i would be surprised that with the level of virtue that he has (probably something that we would hear from the story of jesus and muhammad) that he can't grow a single carrot by miracle. Lazzaro is a miracle from a forgotten realm in Italy.
- DirectorBen AffleckStarsBen AffleckBryan CranstonJohn GoodmanActing under the cover of a Hollywood producer scouting a location for a science fiction film, a CIA agent launches a dangerous operation to rescue six Americans in Tehran during the U.S. hostage crisis in Iran in 1979.it is a perfect thriller from the beginning to the end, the use of everything and the editing also the screenplay and shots are one of the most important things to make a great thriller and also the right score. of all about the techniques, a film can't be good if the story were not interesting and Ben Affleck found one of the most interesting story in thriller movie history that based on an actual classified event.
- DirectorJohn Carroll LynchStarsHarry Dean StantonDavid LynchRon LivingstonLucky follows the spiritual journey of a 90-year-old atheist and the quirky characters that inhabit his off the map desert town.A very beautiful film about non-conformist that comes to terms, not with the rest of the world, but with life and himself. the ending is a scary truth but i wish that when i reached 90 something, it could be as reassuring as the film has portrayed. and last but not least, i hope i could still walk like Harry Dean Stanton when i come to his age. A film not to be missed.
- DirectorKore-eda HirokazuStarsLily FrankySakura AndôKirin KikiOn the margins of Tokyo, a dysfunctional band of outsiders are united by loyalty, a penchant for petty theft and playful grifting. When the young son is arrested, secrets are exposed that upend their tenuous, below-the-radar existence.probably Koreeda's best since Maborosi and After Life. he is comparable to Mike Leigh when it comes to making a family drama, it's started slow but always building up to something and towards the ending you just got kicked in the balls (maybe not so much with Leigh, but sometimes yes), and he was probably possessed by Ozu's holy ghost because nobody told family drama better than Ozu. and i also wished that this film won best foreign language at oscar rather than Roma (a bit overrated imo).
- DirectorNuri Bilge CeylanStarsHaluk BilginerMelisa SözenDemet AkbagA hotel owner and landlord in a remote Turkish village deals with conflicts within his family and a tenant behind on his rent.it's a film with 3 characters living in the same roof that is a hotel in a place that is surrounded by rocks, hills, not much trees, and snow. not much hope for big life. however, these three people are some kind of regarded people in that place. what interesting with this film is how these three people managed to intelligently talking to each other playing as the righteous people to break the other, the three of them are people with lack and didn't know it or purposedly pretending not to acknowledge it, the sister probably doing it out of her disappointment of her past, the wife is probably because she wants to do something that made her alive just like her olden days before their marriage, the husband was doing it to cover his lack of emphaty. by the end of the film we know that there's nothing for them in that place, no matter what they do they only have three of them and the hotel covered with snow that blocking their ideas of life
- DirectorTom HooperStarsEddie RedmayneAlicia VikanderAmber HeardA fictitious love story loosely inspired by the lives of Danish artists Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener. Lili and Gerda's marriage and work evolve as they navigate Lili's groundbreaking journey as a transgender pioneer.one of the most extraordinary and beautiful story ever filmed and it was based on a true story. with this film Eddie Redmayne proved us that he's going to stay in the industry and we want him to. the character development is one of the most crucial thing in this film and the writer nailed it hard to the wall!
- DirectorQuentin TarantinoStarsJamie FoxxChristoph WaltzLeonardo DiCaprioWith the help of a German bounty-hunter, a freed slave sets out to rescue his wife from a brutal plantation owner in Mississippi.a non-stop bloody ride from the beginning to end. a very good traditional tale directed so cheesy but with a very careful and clever of Tarantino's way. i mean gallons of blood, rap/hip-hop soundtrack and mixed with western genre, who would've thought that would astoundingly work?!
- DirectorNoah BaumbachStarsAdam DriverScarlett JohanssonJulia GreerNoah Baumbach's incisive and compassionate look at a marriage breaking up and a family staying together.this film depict an honest and brutal look on how circus-like a divorce case can be in U.S, but at the central of it is the film's heart, the married couple and their nature to navigate their desire though the intricacies of the human and legal problems. every elements of the film feels very natural and believable, very creative and funny with the comedic parts, and powered by the spectacular performances by Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver. truly one of the best of the year.
- DirectorAsghar FarhadiStarsPenélope CruzJavier BardemRicardo DarínLaura, a Spanish woman living in Buenos Aires, returns to her hometown outside Madrid with her two children to attend her sister's wedding. However, the trip is upset by unexpected events that bring secrets into the open.Farhadi is one of a very few director who's capable to make a premise about teen kidnaping story and then turned it into a beautifully layered drama. it's about family and it's dark secrets, it's about the setting and people who lives in it, but as broad as the film already is it's also about individuals, and every character in this film is meticulously written by Farhadi. it also proves Farhadi's universal language that his Iranian archetypal story worked with the spanish setting too. this film compared to The Past and The Salesman is closer to his magnum opus A Separation when it comes to perfection.
- DirectorDuke JohnsonCharlie KaufmanStarsDavid ThewlisJennifer Jason LeighTom NoonanA man crippled by the mundanity of his life experiences something out of the ordinary.with this film, i begin to know the mapping of kaufman's brain, or heart. his films was always about loneliness and unsatisfaction. with this film he tried to say that we live in a world where you just can't be satisfied, it's a curse on pretty much everyone's life. but i am very amazed with his brilliant direction on how he wants the message to be told, it's like a sequel to Synecdoche, New York which is one of the best films of all time. the film touches me in a different level.
- DirectorDavid O. RussellStarsChristian BaleAmy AdamsBradley CooperA con man, Irving Rosenfeld, along with his seductive partner Sydney Prosser, is forced to work for a wild F.B.I. Agent, Richie DiMaso, who pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and the Mafia.American Hustle have great quality of characters played by brilliant actors. though the film suggested conning and corruption as the theme, American Hustle is really about Americans who really work their asses off to get what they want in life and also to avoid what they 'better-off', they made choices and as the result awaits them which some get it and some don't, they might learn few things of something they and we (as the viewers) didn't expected.
- DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsDaniel Day-LewisSally FieldDavid StrathairnAs the Civil War rages on, U.S President Abraham Lincoln struggles with continuing carnage on the battlefield as he fights with many inside his own cabinet on his decision to emancipate the slaves.Spielberg once again made a movie that will stands for ages ahead, he never loses his identity of making films, he making it with heart and hope the whole world knows what he have in minds by making those movies and it always delivered through our heart.
- DirectorCary Joji FukunagaStarsAbraham AttahEmmanuel AffadziRicky AdelayitorA drama based on the experiences of Agu, a child soldier fighting in the civil war of an unnamed African country.one of the most moving experience i've ever had watching films, the film is brutal (like something we have never imagined before) and merciless that made me feel for the real people living this kind of life out there. the film focused on the boy named Agu under a very unfortunate event got his family killed by one side of the war and got trapped by the other side. the film is trying to humanize the people especially the boy that did unspeakable things.
- DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsAsa ButterfieldChloë Grace MoretzChristopher LeeIn 1931 Paris, an orphan living in the walls of a train station gets wrapped up in a mystery involving his late father and an automaton.only a very skillful, experienced, and a very dedicated director could made a film as beautiful as this one, have never i felt something like this watching a Scorsese film who were dominated by films that studying someone's character. this one is a very beautiful, enchanting, and lovely tribute to George Melies, a person who can make your dreams come true. it is about Hugo, a boy whose life has turned in one second and living a life with unanswered questions after one accident that causing his father's death. his only chance of answers lies in an automaton that will lead him not to an answer he's been looking for, but lead him to something greater than that.
- DirectorAlejandro JodorowskyStarsBrontis JodorowskyPamela FloresJeremias HerskovitsIn a little Chilean town, the son of an uprooted couple formed by a rigorous communist father and a loving but weak mother tries to pave his own path in a society that does not understand their Jewish-Ukrainian origins.i'm so glad that this form is no dead yet and neither Jodorowsky. The Dance of Reality tells the story of Jodorowsky's childhood, how he sees the world through his child eyes and how he interpret it as "now" Jodorowsky in his own realism.
- DirectorBarry JenkinsStarsMahershala AliNaomie HarrisTrevante RhodesA young African-American man grapples with his identity and sexuality while experiencing the everyday struggles of childhood, adolescence, and burgeoning adulthood.it's one of the film that i can't fully grab for whatever it is but i can feel the heartbeat, i can identify with every aspect of the film probably just like everyone that have seen it. maybe the film is not meant to be grabbed but to be feel, and the rest of it still have to remain to be a mystery, and i think this is what the main character is feeling.
- DirectorDiego Quemada-DiezStarsBrandon LópezRodolfo DomínguezKaren MartínezA road movie about teenage immigrants and their journey to the U.S.a very heartbreaking film portraying people and his their relationship with their dream. and just like the majority of any relationship, they betrayed. it's a tragedy that everybody can relate to, yet still not everybody can bare it. especially with what happened to the protagonist
- DirectorCarlos López EstradaStarsDaveed DiggsRafael CasalJanina GavankarWhile on probation, a man begins to re-evaluate his relationship with his volatile best friend.when i say that this film is poetic doesn't mean that you're going to watch a rendition of shakespeare where everyone would talk like they're raised from the dead from how many centuries ago and began to talk one of those "thee" and "thou", the whole film is a poetry of an internal struggle that this african american guy have to go through. and the scene near the ending is so powerful that 8 Mile is SHOOK!
- DirectorSteve McQueenStarsMichael FassbenderCarey MulliganJames Badge DaleA sex addict's carefully cultivated private life falls apart after his sister arrives for an indefinite stay.it is a film about a man who has an eternal battle and that is against himself, the only thing he needs as long as he live is to be satisfied and that is by sex. to do that he doesn't need love and even blocking that kind of love life. that makes his whole life under pressure because the fact he know it is not the right thing to be so he sealed his sex life out of his friends and sister because that would bring him Shame, i think that what built the whole film.
- DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsLeonardo DiCaprioJonah HillMargot RobbieBased on the true story of Jordan Belfort, from his rise to a wealthy stock-broker living the high life to his fall involving crime, corruption and the federal government.i don't know about it's over-the-top sexual things that's going on in this movie but this is the loudest and the most entertaining film of the year, it's been years since i laughed so hard watching movies. the editing plays a big part on one of the most energetic, loudest, dirtiest picture i've ever seen and also the performance are one of the best. well, this is what you get when you're expecting from someone like Martin Scorsese, a pure entertainment!
- DirectorClint EastwoodStarsBradley CooperSienna MillerKyle GallnerNavy S.E.A.L. sniper Chris Kyle's pinpoint accuracy saves countless lives on the battlefield and turns him into a legend. Back home with his family after four tours of duty, however, Chris finds that it is the war he can't leave behind.it's an ironic and heartbreaking story of a man whom always following his nature and it is to protect his friends, family, and his country. his father call it sheep dog, a rare breed. his wife will cry and tell him that his life is with her and their children which is true. whenever he comes home he will have anxiety out of a passing car, a sound of drill, etc. he live his life with anxiety over everybody's safety even after war and have hard time to live normal again. and just like almost every Clint Eastwood film, the ending will break your heart.
- DirectorLynne RamsayStarsTilda SwintonJohn C. ReillyEzra MillerKevin's mother struggles to love her strange child despite the increasingly dangerous things he says and does as he grows up. But Kevin is just getting started, and his final act will be beyond anything anyone imagined.one of the most frustating film i've ever seen. instead of giving it from Kevin's point of view but from his mother which i think it's so brutal because there's just not enough clue to understand Kevin, but i think that's what the director wants to give us, the frustation feeling from the mother. it also a mock or a reminder to parents nowadays of how is it to be a mother and how is it to have a son.
- DirectorLars von TrierStarsCharlotte GainsbourgStellan SkarsgårdStacy MartinA self-diagnosed nymphomaniac recounts her erotic experiences to the man who saved her after a beating.along with the vol. II, it is a very brilliant film by Trier. but what we see in the first volum is about a woman from her childhood with a situation that a society will not tolerate, it almost looks like a horror film because of it's scary nature.
- DirectorDan GilroyStarsJake GyllenhaalRene RussoBill PaxtonWhen Louis Bloom, a con man desperate for work, muscles into the world of L.A. crime journalism, he blurs the line between observer and participant to become the star of his own story.to see a character developed as good as this is a rare one of these days, the film gave us a close look at a Character that is rarely we've seen in film before. as the film rolls and as more and more we hate the main character, in the end we learned that this is a social commentary, this is probably what happened with our industry right now
- DirectorIsao TakahataStarsChloë Grace MoretzJames CaanMary SteenburgenKaguya is a beautiful young woman coveted by five nobles. To try to avoid marrying a stranger she doesn't love, she sends her suitors on seemingly impossible tasks. But she will have to face her fate and punishment for her choices.it's one of the best animation film ever by ghibli. it successfully combined a very interesting folktale with a universal theme which makes the film not only very interesting to watch but also could connect to everyone's heart.
- DirectorMarielle HellerStarsBel PowleyAlexander SkarsgårdKristen WiigA teen artist living in 1970s San Francisco enters into an affair with her mother's boyfriend.one of the best coming of age film ever. this one, it knows no boundaries, it pushes and pushes to the point where i think i have enough.
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsLeonardo DiCaprioJoseph Gordon-LevittElliot PageA thief who steals corporate secrets through the use of dream-sharing technology is given the inverse task of planting an idea into the mind of a C.E.O., but his tragic past may doom the project and his team to disaster.with this movie, Nolan proves us that he's ready to be one of the best filmmaker in cinema history, he got brain and style and that's enough for him to make a greater upcoming movies.
- DirectorSpike JonzeStarsJoaquin PhoenixAmy AdamsScarlett JohanssonIn a near future, a lonely writer develops an unlikely relationship with an operating system designed to meet his every need.just watch it for the second time and with an open-mind, this film really is celebrating love of any form and any era which here is somewhere future where everybody walks in the road alone with their earpiece talking like crazy. first time watching it i was like "so believable, love between an operating system and a person what a hollywood formula" but now after second viewing i realize this is not from this era and era like this with technology could act like your wife, it become an interesting discussion. this sounds crazy but love like that could happen in near future and people would OK with it, but after all love is crazy.
- DirectorDenis VilleneuveStarsEmily BluntJosh BrolinBenicio Del ToroAn idealistic FBI agent is enlisted by a government task force to aid in the escalating war against drugs at the border area between the U.S. and Mexico.it is the battle between idealist vs realist, and kind of surprisingly, the realist is winning in a hollywood film. the film's resolution is one of my favorite ending ever on film.
- DirectorEthan CoenJoel CoenStarsOscar IsaacCarey MulliganJohn GoodmanA week in the life of a young singer as he navigates the Greenwich Village folk scene of 1961.first, i like the film because it doesn't cut whenever Davis performed and it uses many close up and slow zoom to glorify Davis and his music though at 1961 his songs were so underestimated and has no value as the recording studio used to thought back then. and it's about a folk singer named Llewyn Davis who struggling to be a musician against many obstacles in winter New York.
- DirectorBong Joon HoStarsSong Kang-hoLee Sun-kyunCho Yeo-jeongGreed and class discrimination threaten the newly-formed symbiotic relationship between the wealthy Park family and the destitute Kim clan.probably Joon-ho boong's best film i've watched (haven't watched Memories of Murders tho) unlike Okja and Snowpiercer where you can feel the political aspects really present and kind of presented in a more hollywood way, in this film it's more implicit and the film focused more on how to make a very entertaining 2 and a half film. a near perfect film.
- DirectorJ.J. AbramsStarsDaisy RidleyJohn BoyegaOscar IsaacAs a new threat to the galaxy rises, Rey, a desert scavenger, and Finn, an ex-stormtrooper, must join Han Solo and Chewbacca to search for the one hope of restoring peace.i was worried about this film, but it turned out to be one of the best gift in the year 2015. a sequel has arrived and it beautiful as hell! the best thing about this film is that the film bring us back to real and authentic feelings of what Star Wars used to be and should be. with a good sequel story and writing, this is the best christmas treat ever!
- DirectorAdam McKayStarsChristian BaleAmy AdamsSteve CarellThe story of Dick Cheney, an unassuming bureaucratic Washington insider, who quietly wielded immense power as Vice President to George W. Bush, reshaping the country and the globe in ways that are still felt today.i don't think that this is a satire as some people has said it to be, it didn't reach the level of War Machine, Oh What a Lovely War, and Dr. Strangelove exaggeration and not much comedic plots going on, all the crazy editing and somehow comedic vibe is just Adam McKay's style to tell a story of about a man of power works and how people and also life itself reaction could shape the world forever for the better or worse. the film could also be about WW1 and WW2 and any other big events that was created by people sitting in a damp cold room talking about big bombings.
- DirectorTom HooperStarsColin FirthGeoffrey RushHelena Bonham CarterThe story of King George VI, his unexpected ascension to the throne of the British Empire in 1936, and the speech therapist who helped the unsure monarch overcome his stammer.big applause and many thanks to the director who has a great vision of how this film will be, the writer, the crew and the casts for their great work and for to Colin Firth for his incredible performance to make us more understand how a person who born as a stammer destined to be a King.
- DirectorPaul VerhoevenStarsIsabelle HuppertLaurent LafitteAnne ConsignyA successful businesswoman gets caught up in a game of cat and mouse as she tracks down the unknown man who raped her.the film is really about perversion and how these people really deal with it in a world that such thing is unacceptable. these people doesn't look like the cannibals from the horror film, doesn't look like zombie, nor look like a super intelligent psycho like Hannibal. these people are ordinary people that could be your neighbor, someone you meet accross the street, ect. we can't really trace the motif behind the calmness of Isabelle and her decision not to report to the police about her sexual assault, in fact she has said that her reason was that she didn't like the police and just wants to move on, we can't accept that. and that Isabelle later on has a relationship with the rapist is really beyond us. these people has learned how to live their life with other people that seems normal that they develop different pattern of thinking. and at the end, the one that smart enough to aware of that and have control of themself, survive.
- DirectorPaul SchraderStarsEthan HawkeAmanda SeyfriedCedric The EntertainerA minister of a small congregation in upstate New York grapples with mounting despair brought on by tragedy, worldly concerns and a tormented past.the film was inspired by three filmmaker who masters the religious theme: Tarkovsky, Bergman, and Bresson. we can feel the Winter Light by Bergman, The Devil Probably and also The Diary of a Country Priest by Bresson, and Sacrifice and Nostalghia (because of the ending) by Tarkovsky, but the main character feels more like Travis Bickle from Taxi Driver, both are troubled by their perspective that different from others. Toller is a very complicated character, it's hard to point out what he suffered from (beside his cancer), but we can't help but sympathize with him. and for those who has a trouble with the ending, Paul was giving you something that you could interpret for yourself, even himself wasn't so sure about it. i'd like to think that Toller finally found his peace.
- DirectorBill PohladStarsJohn CusackPaul DanoElizabeth BanksIn the 60s, Beach Boys leader Brian Wilson struggles with emerging psychosis as he attempts to craft his avant-garde pop masterpiece. In the 80s, he's a broken, confused man under the 24-hour watch of shady therapist, Dr. Eugene Landy.

- DirectorBaz LuhrmannStarsLeonardo DiCaprioCarey MulliganJoel EdgertonA writer and wall street trader, Nick Carraway, finds himself drawn to the past and lifestyle of his mysterious millionaire neighbor, Jay Gatsby, amid the riotous parties of the Jazz Age.not everybody inspired, intrigued, triggered by classic songs. Luhrmann is a hell of a different person. just like Django Unchained, he uses music that really odd choice and another over the top choices. but he really knows his stuffs and he damn know how to handle the story on his own way. he serve the story well-done.

- DirectorPete DocterRonnie Del CarmenStarsAmy PoehlerBill HaderLewis BlackAfter young Riley is uprooted from her Midwest life and moved to San Francisco, her emotions - Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness - conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house, and school.one of the best Disney Pixar animation, not only it touches everyone's heart but it also extremely intelligent (though not accurately) and super cute, it's a modern family animation film that should be watched by everyone. now i just can't wait for another pixar's films
- DirectorRon HowardStarsDaniel BrühlChris HemsworthOlivia WildeThe merciless 1970s rivalry between Formula One rivals James Hunt and Niki Lauda.one of the best sport films of all time, it have everything any great film needs. and it tells not what you see on television when you see Niki Lauda and James Hunt doing the races but what driven them to do the races and to risk their lives.
- DirectorYorgos LanthimosStarsOlivia ColmanEmma StoneRachel WeiszIn early 18th-century England, the status quo at the court is upset when a new servant arrives and endears herself to a frail Queen Anne. Finally we get to see when Yorgos Lanthimos don't make allegorical films, i love when he made them but i also know that he is more than just that. The screenplay is just extraordinarily superb (feeling a bit posh now) the casts are marvelous (Emma Stone upped her game especially with that posh accent) and the film will absolutely felt different if it weren't treated by Yorgos's direction.

- DirectorRidley ScottStarsMichelle WilliamsChristopher PlummerMark WahlbergThe story of the kidnapping of 16-year-old John Paul Getty III and the desperate attempt by his devoted mother to convince his billionaire grandfather Jean Paul Getty to pay the ransom.the film is more than just about a greedy and very stingy rich man, J.P Getty is a person who believes in code ethics of being rich, he loves his family so much but still prioritize his wealth, money is his ambition, so he said. the reason of why he is very hesitant of giving the ransom money is more than just a stingy person in his most extreme state. he needs to know if something that he loves the most is going to be spent wisely, and to the most right reason. and i am in no way was justifying him, he is an evil, but a very unique one. as for Ridley Scott, no one doubt him, or at least i don't. he is one of the masters.
- DirectorAndrea ArnoldStarsSasha LaneShia LaBeoufRiley KeoughA teenage girl with nothing to lose joins a traveling magazine sales crew, and gets caught up in a whirlwind of hard partying, law bending and young love as she criss-crosses the Midwest with a band of misfits.American Honey is another film by Andrea Arnold. it is a very innocent film filled with characters that i could easily met at my college, some of them are my friends too. accompanied by a very fitted soundtrack We Found Love by Rihanna. this film really one of the best road trip, coming of age film with ordinary people in it which makes it extraordinary
- DirectorJ.C. ChandorStarsRobert RedfordAfter a collision with a shipping container at sea, a resourceful sailor finds himself, despite all efforts to the contrary, staring his mortality in the face.if we talk about technical and directing and the atmosphere and the tense, we will all say that gravity will be more conventional, because All Is Lost didn't count on the effects and the choreograph and anything but it has a more depth on the character and the choice of the music, the shots, etc makes the audience feel the helpless and loneliness in the middle of the sea. it is a journey of a man that has more experience in sea, that follow his instinct, and unlike Life of Pi, Our Man in All Is Lost doesn't really seeking help from God and didn't asking anything about god though he was once whispering God and then follows with a loud F-word.

- DirectorPeter FarrellyStarsViggo MortensenMahershala AliLinda CardelliniA working-class Italian-American bouncer becomes the driver for an African-American classical pianist on a tour of venues through the 1960s American South.this film should be one of christmas film to watch as a tradition for generations to come, the characters and the story is very heartwarming and reminded you a lot of John Hughes films. this type of film could easily hit the wrong note and made the film just like every other cheesy road trip film, but it didn't, the writer and the casts always stay on track with the characters. and when the film ended, i was smiled throughout the credits.
- DirectorPaul GreengrassStarsTom HanksBarkhad AbdiBarkhad AbdirahmanThe true story of Captain Richard Phillips and the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates of the U.S.-flagged MV Maersk Alabama, the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in two hundred years.it is a non-stop thrill and a moving experience that packed so neat by Paul Greengrass, it never let you breath even for just one second and pushing you to the very edge of your seat. why? because the director successful on making us symphatize to Captain Phillips who risks his life and sacrifice himself to the pirate to save his ship's crew.

- DirectorDavid MichôdStarsBrad PittDaniel BettsJohn MagaroAn idiosyncratic general confronts opposition from enemies, allies, and bureaucrats while leading a massive rebuilding operation in Afghanistan.Wow! a lot of hate by critics. they just seem not to understand the direction of the film, some of them didn't even feel that this is a satire and a comedy film, then why did i laugh through out the film even though i'm not very familiar with the topic? it feels like i'm the only one that love this film. of everything interesting about this film, the Brad Pitt's character is the centre point of the film, a very qualified and patriotic general with a hint of narcisstic behavior that along the way started to questioned his own motifs. he was doing something beyond his order, he was trying to help aghanistan people that certainly didn't need any help, it feels like he was doing it for himself, or was he? well, he himself didn't know who he was. this film works as a satirical politic film that question something like: was every war has the same motifs which is to win? and when the war has won, who win it?
- DirectorKenneth LonerganStarsCasey AffleckMichelle WilliamsKyle ChandlerA depressed uncle is asked to take care of his teenage nephew after the boy's father dies.Lonnergan is back with his masterpiece drama. the great thing about Lonnergan is that he is very good with a simple story and directing but his characters and writings are very complicated and relatable with everybody. i find his films to be very calming.
