She assumes that Jerry is involved in the scheme and will not listen to his explanations. When Dan is murdered, Jerry finds one of Kay's gloves next to the body and, assuming she is guilty, offers no defense when he is arrested for the crime. He is sentenced to death until Kay goes to her father with the truth. Raymond intervenes, the police arrest Shorty Gray, who confesses to the crime, and Jerry is released from prison to find Kay waiting for him.

This loses her the respect of her sister, Janet, who loves Hale, and Delaney, who loves Violet. Meanwhile, town sheriff Bill Howard is working hard to get Delaney to confess to a murder. Delaney manges to steer clear of the sheriff until Violet kills her lawful husband, Henry Vaal, and the sheriff is soon pursuing both Violet and Delaney into the desert.

Harold Calvert and Tom West fall for the same pretty army nurse, Lt. Helen Landers. For the next mass air raid against Tokyo, both Calvert and West are scheduled to fly together on the same bomber. But Tokyo's air defenses are formidable and many American bombers are downed by Japanese flak and Zero fighters. The bomber flown by Calvert and West is hit by AA fire and must somehow limp back home, after dropping its bomb payload. Most of its crew is badly shot-up, including Capt. Harold Calvert.
