The Next Batman ?

by AaronM0696 | created - 16 Mar 2013 | updated - 24 Aug 2013 | Public

I personally believe Nolan's universe should be left untouched, which includes Nolan's Batman a.k.a. Christian Bale. I firmly believe TDKR closed Nolan's universe for good....PERIOD! With that in my mind I'm choosing a group of actors which both have their strengths and weakness' on playing the role of the Caped Crusader. I would love to see what people think and their ideas for the next actor to play the role of Batman. I'm looking for an actor who fits the role and can exist as a believable Batman outside Nolan's universe and in this new planned DC Cinematic Universe. Please comment, I crave feedback from you, the reader. I really do...

1. Ben Affleck

Producer | Argo

Benjamin Géza "Ben" Affleck-Boldt was born on August 15, 1972 in Berkeley, California and raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to mother Chris Anne (Boldt), a school teacher, and father Timothy Byers "Tim" Affleck, a social worker. Ben has a younger brother, actor Casey Affleck, who was born in 1975...

2. Ryan Gosling

Actor | Blue Valentine

Born Ryan Thomas Gosling on November 12, 1980, in London, Ontario, Canada, he is the son of Donna (Wilson), a secretary, and Thomas Ray Gosling, a traveling salesman. Ryan was the second of their two children, with an older sister, Mandi. His ancestry is French-Canadian, as well as English, ...

If Fassbender isn't cast, which sadly will probably won't happen due to my explanation(see above), Gosling is my back-up plan, in fact he is better than then the term 'back-up plan'.If you have viewed Drive you can see my reasoning and lobbying that Gosling acquires the position. He even has referred to his breakout action role in "Drive" as "his version of a superhero movie".We all know he's capable of beating the crap out of a bad guy, I mean did you see Drive ? Even in the trailer(s) for 'Only God Forgives' he can be seen at his best dragging 'perps' to their inevitable doom at the hands of Gosling's silent, brooding character. He's pretty much Batman, just give him the appropriate Cape and Cowl to make it official. He also admitted to having an interest in playing "The Flash", this makes one believe he would consider 'donning' a costume of a hero within the DC universe, lets just hope it's Batman.

3. Michael Fassbender

Actor | Shame

Michael Fassbender is an Irish actor who was born in Heidelberg, Germany, to a German father, Josef, and an Irish mother, Adele (originally from Larne, County Antrim, in Northern Ireland). Michael was raised in the town of Killarney, Co. Kerry, in south-west Ireland, where his family moved to when ...

Think about it, a 36 year old actor who has proved in the past he can act, bloody marvelously by the way, who is at a point in his career were he is receiving praise for mastering the portrayal of an individual with a damaged psyche. Well that's just the essential criteria for the role, isn't it? My personal choice, along with Gosling. A fantastic actor who's ability knows no bounds. The only problem is that he is probably going to be in a few more X-Men movies as "Magneto".But such said film "X-Men First Class" was the film to confirm his potential to take control of a character that has a much darker side than your usual plain superhero. With movie contracts today I can only assume Fassbender is tied down for quite a while with Marvel. But if he could find a way to get out of it I wouldn't hesitate to cast him in the role. Also, I know people have a problem with his physique for the role, but take into consideration, his work in "Hunger", he took a similar role to Christian Bale's in "The Machinist". So, if he can starve himself, why can he not build himself?

4. Luke Evans

Actor | Dracula Untold

Luke George Evans was born in Pontypool, Wales, and grew up in Aberbargoed, in the south of Wales. He is the son of Yvonne (Lewis) and David Evans. He moved to Cardiff at the age 17. He then won a scholarship to the London Studio Centre, and graduated in 2000.

He starred in many of London's West End...

He has only started to rise up the ranks of leading men. Starting to make a name for himself, with projects like 'Fast 6' and 'The Crow' remake. A potential Batman, due to his experience in action and lets not forget he has already starred opposite Henry Cavill (Superman) in 'Immortals'. And with a "World's Finest" movie on the way, Evans is just 4 years older than Cavill. This would allow for Evans to continue on in a 'DC franchise' for the same amount of time as Cavill. Another useful addition for having Evans in the role.

5. Karl Urban

Actor | Star Trek

Originally from Wellington, New Zealand, Karl Urban now lives in Auckland. Born on June 7, 1972, he is the son of a leather-goods manufacturer (who had hoped that Karl would follow in his footsteps). His first acting role was when he was 8 -- he had a line on a television series. However, he did ...

I don't see him as Bruce Wayne, definitely Batman just not Bruce Wayne, the Kiwi actor doesn't exactly have the playboy look does he ? Love this guy, but now that I think of it, I would think he would much rather stay with his beloved role as "Judge Dredd". I absolutely loved "DREDD", its the film that the character deserved. I think Urban has too much ambition and love for Dredd to abandon the possibility of much Dredd on the silver screen.

6. Jake Gyllenhaal

Actor | Nightcrawler

Jake Gyllenhaal was born on December 19, 1980 in Los Angeles, California as Jacob Benjamin Gyllenhaal, the son of producer/screenwriter Naomi Foner and director Stephen Gyllenhaal, and the younger brother of actress Maggie Gyllenhaal. He is of Ashkenazi Jewish (mother) and Swedish, English, and ...

Interesting choice this one, as David S. Goyer's recommendation for the role in "Batman Begins". Not unfamiliar of action due to his role in "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time". I think we all know that he is a serious actor and has the ability to pull off this somewhat complex performance.

7. Joel Edgerton

Actor | The Gift

Joel Edgerton was born on June 23, 1974 in Blacktown, New South Wales, Australia, to Marianne (van Dort) and Michael Edgerton, who is a solicitor and property developer. His brother is filmmaker Nash Edgerton. His mother is a Dutch immigrant. Joel went to Hills Grammar School in the Western Suburbs...

He hasn't really led a blockbuster, yet. An A-list actor who has yet to be plucked up by a major franchise. Seems to be in everyone's potential list of actors to play the next Batman. There's nothing wrong with this choice, I particularly agree with Batman but not that of Bruce Wayne. Maybe his role in "The Great Gatsby" will convince me but until then, I can't see him in the role.

8. Richard Armitage

Actor | The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Richard Crispin Armitage was born and raised in Leicester, England, to Margaret (Hendey), a secretary, and John Armitage, an engineer. He attended Pattison College in Binley Road, Coventry, where he discovered his love for acting. He took part in many theatre productions all over the UK, from ...

Played one of the British government's most respected (and personally troubled) intelligence agents in BBC's 'Spooks'. That side of a troubled detective is chief amongst the characteristics an actor should look to incorporate in their portrayal of 'The Caped Crusader'. Loved him in 'The Hobbit :An Unexpected Journey' which got him some recognition in the mainstream, his 6'2" frame is hidden under makeup and digital trickery, so don't worry about his physical presence.

9. Joe Manganiello

Actor | True Blood

Joe Manganiello is an American actor, producer, director, and author. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Susan (Brachanow) and Charles John Manganiello, and has a younger brother, Nicholas who is also his producing partner. His ancestry includes Sicilian, Irish, Croatian, Armenian, German,...

Lost out on Superman and is still desperate to play a Superhero. His physical frame is a prime factor of my recognition for his ability to play Batman.

10. Armie Hammer

Actor | Call Me by Your Name

Armand Douglas Hammer was born in Los Angeles, California, to Dru Ann (Mobley) and Michael Armand Hammer, a businessman. His great-grandfather, Armand Hammer, was a prominent tycoon and philanthropist who ran the company Occidental Petroleum for many decades. Armie's ancestry includes ...

The studio's choice is what were left to believe, attached to star in 2007's "Justice League" with George Miller at the helm. My problem ? At 26 he is too young to be Batman, hopefully they don't do another origin story, if they don't then the film should hopefully be set in Year 2 of Batman's crime fighting career. If this happens Hammer is too young to play Batman.

11. Gerard Butler

Actor | 300

Gerard James Butler was born in Paisley, Scotland, to Margaret and Edward Butler, a bookmaker. His family is of Irish origin. Gerard spent some of his very early childhood in Montreal, Quebec, but was mostly raised, along with his older brother and sister, in his hometown of Paisley. His parents ...

At this stage of his career you can consider Butler an 'A-Lister'. One of many rational appealing draws to Butler in the role. But at 41 he's not exactly someone WB can hope to build a future franchise on, can they? He has the physical aspect of the role confirmed, but does he has the necessary acting skills to pull off Bruce Wayne. Some may be disenfranchised at this consideration but in all honesty he's one of Hollywood's leading men who haven't yet 'donned a cape' for a blockbuster. This is more of a commercial choice if anything.

12. Jim Caviezel

Actor | The Passion of the Christ

James Patrick Caviezel was born on September 26, 1968 in Mount Vernon, Washington. He was one of five children born to Margaret (Lavery), a former stage actress, and James Caviezel, a chiropractor. The Caviezels are a closely knit Catholic family. He is of Irish (mother) and Swiss-Romansh and ...

Have you seen Person Of Interest? I know he's missing the all important suit/costume, but Caviezel pretty much plays the vigilante part which is all too similar to Batman.

13. David Boreanaz

Actor | Angel

David was born in Buffalo, New York and grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the son of Patti, a travel agent, and weatherman Dave Roberts (Boreanaz). His father is of Italian descent and his mother is of half Slovak ancestry. At the age of seven he decide to be an actor, which eventually ...

He has the basics for the role. He has the good looks and charm to be Gotham's playboy millionaire and has that dark side necessary to go out night after night and submerge himself in Gotham's criminal underworld. But I'm afraid he's nothing spectacular to make him stand out as a key candidate.

14. Idris Elba

Actor | Beasts of No Nation

An only child, Idrissa Akuna Elba was born and raised in London, England. His father, Winston, is from Sierra Leone and worked at Ford Dagenham; his mother, Eve, is from Ghana and had a clerical duty. Idris attended school in Canning Town, where he first became involved in acting, before he dropped...

Alright I know as well as everybody Batman isn't black, but if there was to be a black Batman God knows the role should be given to Elba. Even if you've seen him in "Luther" you'll understand the case I'm trying to make here, he is explosive on screen and deserve a high-class role such as Batman. If not he should get James Bond.

15. Jon Hamm

Actor | Mad Men

Jon Hamm is an American actor and producer from St. Louis, Missouri who is known for playing Don Draper in Mad Men. He also played Mister Sinister in a deleted scene of The New Mutants and Legion, Brogan from Shrek Forever After, and other films and shows including Sucker Punch, Million Dollar Arm,...

Unfortunately a little too old for the role. A shame really as he is the perfect Bruce Wayne, but Batman ? Well I'm not too sure he could pull off the cowl look myself.

16. Anson Mount

Actor | Crossroads

Anson is an American actor, born in Mount Prospect, IL and grew up in White Bluff, Tennessee. His mother is Nancy Smith, a former professional golfer. His father Anson Adams Mount II was one of the original contributing editors to Playboy magazine. Anson has an older brother Anson Adams III and a ...

From his darker side on 'Hell On Wheels', to his action side in 'Safe' with fantastic combat skills. Also his light playboy appeal in 'Crossroads', Mount fits the job description and with Warner Brothers. looking to not break the bank, this popular T.V star could be seriously looked at in consideration for the role.

17. Lee Pace

Actor | Guardians of the Galaxy

One of the most versatile actors working in Hollywood today, Lee Pace has established himself as a powerful leading man, consistently delivering compelling performances in film, television, and on stage.

Pace will next be seen in the highly anticipated Apple TV+ series FOUNDATION. Scheduled for a ...

Looks like Bale and his performances remind of Bale before Nolan's Trilogy

18. Wes Bentley

Actor | American Beauty

Wes Bentley is an American actor who first became well-known via his role in the Oscar-winning film American Beauty (1999), in which he played the soulful, artistic next-door neighbor Ricky Fitts. He also portrayed game-maker Seneca Crane in The Hunger Games (2012), and co-stars in Lovelace (2013) ...

19. Josh Brolin

Actor | Avengers: Endgame

Rugged features and a natural charm have worked for Josh Brolin, the son of actor James Brolin. He has played roles as a policeman, a hunter, and the President of the United States.

Brolin was born February 12, 1968 in Santa Monica, California, to Jane Cameron (Agee), a Texas-born wildlife activist,...

20. Tyler Hoechlin

Actor | Road to Perdition

Tyler Lee Hoechlin is an American actor. Initially earning recognition for starring as Michael Sullivan Jr. in the 2002 film Road to Perdition, Hoechlin went on to star as Martin Brewer on 7th Heaven between 2003 and 2007. In television, he is also known for portraying Derek Hale on Teen Wolf and ...

21. Jeffrey Dean Morgan

Actor | Watchmen

Jeffrey Dean Morgan endeared himself to audiences with his recurring role on ABC's smash hit series Grey's Anatomy (2005). His dramatic arc as heart patient Denny Duquette, who wins the heart of intern Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl) in a star-crossed romance, made him a universal fan favorite. He ...
