A mind blowing television experience for all 42 minutes of the episode, No Sanctuary delivers everything a fan of The Walking Dead could want. Rick Grimes and his group proves that Gareth and the rest of Terminus are *beep* with the wrong people. One of the great performances from Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes from the entire series. Just as things seem to be calming down at the prison, all hell breaks loose caused by one of the prisoners who escaped. Emotionally tiring episode with a number of deaths.

Director: Michelle MacLaren | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan

Votes: 18,478

A fantastic finale after a slower back half of season 4. The episode was done so well with showing scenes back in time at the prison that we have not seen where Hershel is trying to make Rick become a better father and become a farmer to forget the outside world. But in present day Rick is on his way to becoming more brutal than he has ever been. The scenes with the marauders and when they finally reach Terminus are shocking and amazing. Rick is back and more dangerous than ever along with Daryl, Michonne, and the rest of the gang.

Votes: 16,268

Now that Gareth and his group of cannibals have become the Hunters, they tried to hunt the wrong people. Extremely tense and smart episode that leads to the culmination and the demise of the Hunters. Rick kills Gareth in a showdown where he outsmarts the once arrogant cannibal. The group becomes a lot more brutal also killing the other Hunters in ways we have not seen them kill before.

Director: Ernest R. Dickerson | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Jon Bernthal, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden

Votes: 18,612

On the way back to the farm, Rick and Carl find that it is in jeopardy from a herd of walkers. So many walker kills in this episode and some downed characters to go with that. A recipe for a great walking dead episode!

13. The Walking Dead (2010–2022)
Episode: Internment (2013)

TV-MA | 42 min | Drama, Horror, Thriller

Hershel struggles to care for the sick as the situation in the cell block escalates. Meanwhile, Rick and Carl defend the prison as the fences give way.

Director: David Boyd | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan

Votes: 14,529

The performance from Scott Wilson as Hershel Greene was outstanding in Internment. The suspense from his story of trying to save as many lives as he could in isolation combined with Rick and Carl defending the prison with assault rifles when the fences gave in from a large group of walkers was enough to keep anybody on the edge of their seat.

14. The Walking Dead (2010–2022)

Rick continues to see visions of Lori. The Governor plans an assault on the prison. Daryl and Merle fend for themselves out in the forest.

Director: Seith Mann | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Norman Reedus

Votes: 13,356

Home was a great in depth look at Daryl Dixon and his brother Merle. When faced with either helping a mexican family on a bridge surrounded by walkers or let them die, Daryl chooses to save them while Merle mostly sits back and watches. This shows how far Daryl has come along as compared to his brother. And the attack on the prison from the Governor was a nice scene also.

Episode: Guts (2010)

TV-14 | 45 min | Drama, Horror, Thriller

In Atlanta, Rick is rescued by a group of survivors, but they soon find themselves trapped inside a department store surrounded by walkers.

Director: Michelle MacLaren | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Jon Bernthal, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden

Votes: 18,822

In my opinion, the best episode of season one. Not only do we get to meet most of the characters of the future, this episode offers the most action of any episode from the first season.

Episode: Days Gone Bye (2010)

TV-14 | 67 min | Drama, Horror, Thriller

Deputy Sheriff Rick Grimes awakens from a coma, and searches for his family in a world ravaged by the undead.

Director: Frank Darabont | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Jon Bernthal, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden

Votes: 29,921

The first episode of the series has some great and memorable moments. Rick waking up from a coma to a zombie apocalypse was amazingly done. Also when he later meets up with Morgan and Duane, we see some really nice development and what both Rick and Morgan are searching for. Rick is looking for his family while Morgan is searching for some extra determination to kill his zombified wife.

Director: Michelle MacLaren | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Jon Bernthal, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden

Votes: 19,889

For all the Shane fans out there, this is the absolute pinnacle moment for his character. The entire first half of the second season is mostly a huge build-up to when Shane busts open the barn full of walkers at Hershel's farm. What we didn't expect is for Sophia to come out of that barn also!

19. The Walking Dead (2010–2022)
Episode: Better Angels (2012)

TV-14 | 43 min | Drama, Horror, Thriller

Shane's antagonistic behaviour reaches new heights, while Carl suffers the consequences of his actions.

Director: Guy Ferland | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Jon Bernthal, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden

Votes: 17,039

The moment that had been building up since the first season of the series. Shane stages Randall's escape from the shed to lure Rick out into the woods at night. He confronts Rick in the open at gun point and tells him that he is a better man, father, and leader than Rick. Rick is able to calm him down enough for him to lower his gun but in one of the most shocking moments in the series, Rick stabs Shane in the heart and kills him. To add to the shocking scene, Shane turns into a walker which confirms however the survivors may die...they turn!

Episode: Spend (2015)

TV-MA | 42 min | Drama, Horror, Thriller

Eugene is forced to step up when a run led by Glenn goes awry. Back at Alexandria, Carol uncovers a secret.

Episode: Nebraska (2012)

TV-14 | 43 min | Drama, Horror, Thriller

In the aftermath of the barn incident; the group bury loved ones, Beth falls into shock, and Rick and Glenn head out to find Hershel when he disappears.

Director: Clark Johnson | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Jon Bernthal, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden

Votes: 13,874

Nebraska is mostly about Rick and Glenn trying to convince Hershel to come back to the farm. Hershel is in a bar grieving after the entire barn incident. But the cool thing about this episode is when Hershel makes his decision to come back, two random survivors(Dave and Tony) come in and stall them from leaving. After some talk of where everyone is holed up at, Dave and Tony start to talking too pushy for Rick's taste. It leads to them getting killed by Rick who awesomely out shoots them and is flat fast on the draw!. This is the first time we see humans as a kill or be killed threat in the series.

22. The Walking Dead (2010–2022)
Episode: Sick (2012)

TV-MA | 43 min | Drama, Horror, Thriller

As Hershel's condition worsens, Rick, Daryl and T-Dog deal with a group of prisoners.

Director: Billy Gierhart | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Norman Reedus

Votes: 13,742

They try to keep them around until two of them pushes their luck with Rick. As a result Rick buries a machete in one of their heads while the other escapes. Hershel is awake and fine by the end of the episode.

Michonne leads Rick, Daryl and Oscar to Woodbury to rescue Glenn and Maggie. Merle tries to force information out of Glenn.

Director: Daniel Sackheim | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Norman Reedus

Votes: 12,610

Very intense story here in this episode. Michonne, who is a stranger to Rick's group at this time, shows up to the prison with some bad news concerning Glenn and Maggie. This springs a mission to Woodbury on a rescue attempt. Getting there is easier said than done though.

26. The Walking Dead (2010–2022)

Rick and the group come up with a plan to lure a massive herd of walkers away from Alexandria, while flashbacks show the events following Pete's death, including Rick's reunion with Morgan.

Maggie, Sasha and Bob clash over whether they should head to Terminus. Daryl and Beth take shelter in a seemingly abandoned funeral home.

Director: Ernest R. Dickerson | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan

Votes: 12,404

While Maggie, Sasha, and Bob find the first signs of Terminus and proceed to that direction, Daryl and Beth find a seemingly abandoned church. They soon find that the church is being inhabited by someone else but decide to wait and see what the person is like because they want to stay. Soon after Daryl fights to stay alive from a group of walkers, Beth is seemingly kidnapped. Suspense is on!

28. The Walking Dead (2010–2022)
Episode: Isolation (2013)

TV-MA | 42 min | Drama, Horror, Thriller

As the sick are quarantined, Daryl, Tyreese, Michonne and Bob leave the prison in search of medical supplies. Rick makes a shocking discovery.

Director: Daniel Sackheim | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan

Votes: 12,213

Isolation has so much going on in this episode. Where did the sickness come from, who killed Karen and David, how can the group find a cure, why is this Bob Stookey getting as much screen time as he is. Very cool ending to the episode with Daryl's group barely escaping a herd of walkers and finding that it is Carol who killed Karen and David... maybe?

29. The Walking Dead (2010–2022)
Episode: Clear (2013)

TV-MA | 43 min | Drama, Horror, Thriller

Rick runs into a familiar face when he, Carl and Michonne head back to Rick's hometown for more guns to fortify themselves against The Governor.

Director: Tricia Brock | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Norman Reedus

Votes: 14,335

This was a very different approach that the walking dead normally doesn't take. Instead of concentrating on walker action, the show explores deeper into the characters. Only Rick, Michonne, Carl, and a surprise Morgan appear in this episode. While Rick and Morgan work out their differences, Michonne helps Carl find an old family photo.

30. The Walking Dead (2010–2022)
Episode: This Sorrowful Life (2013)

TV-MA | 43 min | Drama, Horror, Thriller

While Rick decides the fate of Michonne, Merle takes matters into his own hand.

Director: Greg Nicotero | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Norman Reedus

Votes: 14,148

Merles last stand and he went out with a bang. Fantastic work from Michael Rooker as Merle as he captures Michonne to fulfill the Governor's deal. But in a change of heart, he lets her go and surprises the Governor's army with an attack of just him. When he is finally found by the Governor, Merle is killed but the Governor lets him turn. When Daryl finds his brother as a walker he is devastated but is able to put him down. This is one of the most emotional moments I have seen.

31. The Walking Dead (2010–2022)
Episode: Twice as Far (2016)

Director: Ernest R. Dickerson | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan

Votes: 15,517

A couple words I have for this episode would be extremely shocking. Not really that Beth dies but in the manner it happened. It was pretty gruesome and kind of out of place honestly for Beth's character type. Usually you see a character have their final words of courage before they pass on and everyone know's they will. In this case it just happened in a blink of an eye. And adding to this episode was the start. Rick hitting Bob 2.0 with the car was pretty wicked and shows how dark he has become. And I like it!

33. The Walking Dead (2010–2022)
Episode: What Lies Ahead (2011)

TV-MA | 68 min | Drama, Horror, Thriller

The group's plan to head for Fort Benning is put on hold when Sophia goes missing.

Directors: Ernest R. Dickerson, Gwyneth Horder-Payton | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Jon Bernthal, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden

Votes: 15,787

This is the first episode we see a herd of walkers in a huge mass. The group is able to hide until they pass but a couple of stragglers finds Sophia and chases her in the woods. She eventually is lost and while the group looks for her, Carl is shockingly shot in a hunting accident from Otis.

34. The Walking Dead (2010–2022)

Director: Seith Mann | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan

Votes: 12,116

The first we become associated with Abraham and his companions Eugene and Rosita. We learn that Eugene may know a way to solve the apocalypse. Meanwhile as the group is still split up, Rick faces a number of marauders in a house he is sleeping in. In a suspenseful sequence, Rick is able to escape, but not before having to kill one of them quietly. Rick, Michonne, and Carl walk down railroad tracks leading to a place called Terminus.

Votes: 12,907

A new aspect is thrown into the show as people are starting to become infected with a mysterious disease that can kill over night. Rick, Daryl, and, Glenn fight the people who have died and turned in D block. As this occurs the prison fence is weakening as more and more walkers put pressure on it.

Director: Ernest R. Dickerson | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Jon Bernthal, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden

Votes: 13,880

The build-up of tension between Rick and Shane bursts for the first time in an all out fist fight. Two people with completely different mindsets jostling over leadership in a zombie apocalypse is a story I will tune into at anytime.

Director: David Boyd | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan

Votes: 14,159

A lot more slow paced than the premiere of season 5, but still a very good story and nothing is forced in the episode. Every detail is important. The run to the food bank was cool and this is where Bob is bitten but he does not reveal it until the next episode. Gareth is able to capture Bob at the end of the episode and well... enjoys eating his leg. Tainted Meat!!!

39. The Walking Dead (2010–2022)

Daryl and Carol chase the white-crossed car to a desolated Atlanta with hopes of finding Beth and her kidnappers.

Director: Seith Mann | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan

Votes: 12,421

An episode that a lot of fans of both Daryl and Carol fans have been waiting for. This is the first episode that we see these two characters isolated by themselves for the entire 42 plus minutes. And the combination works quite well as they deliver another great episode. I like the way these two characters story is heading.

Director: Guy Ferland | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Jon Bernthal, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden

Votes: 14,034

Daryl's first episode mostly concentrating on him would be the start to making the cult following of the character today. We got to finally see more of who he was when he was searching for Sophia. An accident causes him to roll down a hill and ultimately get an arrow through his side. As he attempts to climb back up the hill we see him hallucinate and talk with his nonexistent brother Merle. We also find that Daryl is a born badass and can handle his own when he took out those walkers when he could barely move.

43. The Walking Dead (2010–2022)
Episode: Dead Weight (2013)

TV-MA | 42 min | Drama, Horror, Thriller

The Governor plans his next move as he, Lilly, Tara and Meghan adjust to new surroundings.

Director: Jeremy Podeswa | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan

Votes: 12,454

Many people do not enjoy this episode for it completely concentrates on the Governor. I rather enjoyed it though because it shows that the Governor himself is truly too far gone, the title of the next episode after this. This episode mainly is meant to assist and set up what is in my opinion the greatest episode ever. Dead Weight is the perfect assist.

44. The Walking Dead (2010–2022)
Episode: Hounded (2012)

TV-MA | 43 min | Drama, Horror, Thriller

Rick receives a mysterious phone call. Andrea grows closer to The Governor. Merle tries to hunt down Michonne.

Director: Daniel Attias | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Norman Reedus

Votes: 12,296

Hounded showcases Michonne's skills both instinctively and physically as she decides to leave Woodbury believing that theres more to the Governor than meets the eye. She's right because the Governor sends Merle and three others after her to kill her. She ultimately kills two of them and gets away. Glenn and Maggie then run into Merle as he kidnaps them while Michonne sees while hidden. She then heads to the prison to tell Rick's group what happened.

Daryl and Beth seek refuge in the woods, where conflict emerges between the pair.

Director: Julius Ramsay | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan

Votes: 15,690

Another episode that many do not like. Far from perfect but this episode delivers some much needed character development from both Daryl and Beth who are the only two characters in the episode. More than anything this episode was for Beth to bring Daryl out of his depressed slump after the prison attack. Very well acted installment.

46. The Walking Dead (2010–2022)
Episode: The Grove (2014)

TV-MA | 42 min | Drama, Horror, Thriller

Carol has to cope with old secrets and Lizzie's psychotic behavior when she, Tyreese and the girls take refuge in a vacant house on the way to Terminus.

Director: Michael E. Satrazemis | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan

Votes: 18,963

The Grove concentrates again on a small number of characters. We see Carol, Tyreese, Lizzie, Mika, and Judith as they try and make their way closer to Terminus. They come across a pecan grove and stay a while. Lizzie grows more and more unstable with her feelings towards walkers and in one of the shows darkest moments yet, Lizzie kills her sister to try and prove walkers are just different people but not dangerous. Carol then is forced to put her down as a result. She then confesses to Tyreese that she killed Karen and David. Tyreese forgives her and they continue their journey to Terminus.

Save the last one was a great episode for Shane fans. While on a run with Otis to get medical supplies for Carl, we see that Shane will do whatever it takes to stay alive to be in the world with Lori.

The build-up of Glenn and Maggie searching for each other was fun to watch and when they find each other it is a nice moment. Daryl continues traveling with the marauders and finds they are brutal people as they kill one of their own for lying about planting his half of his rabbit in Daryl's bag to make him look bad.

Director: Stefan Schwartz | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Norman Reedus

Votes: 12,515

Prey was actually one of the more terrifying episodes of the series and it didn't have a lot to do with the undead. It was the Governor applying the horror while stalking Andrea as she escaped Woodbury and while trying to get to the prison, the Governor stops her from doing so.

The biggest thing going for this episode was the introduction of Daryl Dixon. The first time we see the hot headed hunter Rick Grimes has to explain to him why his brother is handcuffed on a rooftop. Good Luck! They then proceed to try and find Merle but all they find is his hand!

Director: Greg Nicotero | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan

Votes: 14,661

This was a solid start for season four of the series. While Rick wants to rid the violence out of his and Carl's life, a council has been formed at the prison to make decisions. Rick has begun a new life as a farmer and Daryl is the majority leader as he leads a run to a store. A nice scene occurred here when things go sour and walkers start falling from the ceiling.

54. The Walking Dead (2010–2022)
Episode: Walk with Me (2012)

TV-MA | 43 min | Drama, Horror, Thriller

Andrea and Michonne are brought to a walled community run by a man called The Governor.

Director: Guy Ferland | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Norman Reedus

Votes: 13,215

A great introduction to one of my favorite all time villains. The Governor first appears to be a good person offering a place to stay for Andrea and Michonne. While Michonne instantly has a weird vibe about the Woodbury, Andrea insists that the town can be a fresh start. We soon find out who the Governor really is by the end of the episode.

Episode: Vatos (2010)

Director: Johan Renck | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Jon Bernthal, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden

Votes: 16,871

A lot of this episode just seems worthless after finding that Glenn was in no real danger after being kidnapped. It turns out that this world will make good people do whatever it takes to protect and survive. Great walker killing action at the end saves this episode from being worse when the camp is attacked.

Director: Tricia Brock | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan

Votes: 12,364

Inmates produced some good moments but there was a little too much skipping around to different story lines though out the episode. It consisted of four stories lead by Daryl, Tyreese, Maggie, and Glenn. These events happened right after the Governors assault on the prison and we catch up with our survivors. We also meet Abraham at the end.

60. The Walking Dead (2010–2022)

This episode offers a fantastic start as Rick and Maggie go back into Woodbury and save Daryl. Merle comes along to and there is an argument when they bring him to Glenn and Michonne. Rick decides that Daryl either has to go back to the prison without Merle or not come back at all. Daryl leaves the group for Merle.

63. The Walking Dead (2010–2022)
Episode: TS-19 (2010)

The survivors gain access to the C.D.C. in the hope of a safe haven.

Director: Guy Ferland | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Jon Bernthal, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden

In TS-19 we learn a little more about the origins of the walkers. We also find that the CDC is running low on power and Jenner wants the group to die with him. They finally talk him into letting them go and the group barely gets out in time. A different look from the rest of the first season, but the finale does deliver some interesting story.

Director: David Boyd | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Norman Reedus

Votes: 12,571

Many people complain on how boring this episode is but it is not supposed to be an action episode. It's more just a big moment when Rick and the Governor meet for the first time and this proceeds to be most of the episode's story. We also find out that the Governor wants Michonne in a deal with Rick... and he still wants to take out the prison group after that!

69. The Walking Dead (2010–2022)
Episode: Crossed (2014)

TV-MA | 42 min | Drama, Horror, Thriller

Director: Billy Gierhart | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan

Votes: 11,806

This episode is more about setting up the events for the season 5 mid-season finale and it bounces around a lot. It seems as though the episode is trying to quickly tie up loose ends before the bigger episode and it succeeds in some ways but fails in others. Half the episode was pretty good highlighted by Rick and Daryl's group creating a plan to save Beth and Carol but the other half is honestly pretty weak. Overall solid but nothing stands out besides Daryl's improvised fight with one of the hospital dudes.

A lot of this episode seems all for not at the end of the episode when we find out that Eugene was lying the entire time about knowing a cure. But it was still good to see some Abraham backstory and know little about him. We find that he is quite a brutal and angry person. Do not get on his bad side.

71. The Walking Dead (2010–2022)
Episode: Indifference (2013)

TV-MA | 42 min | Drama, Horror, Thriller

Daryl, Tyreese, Michonne and Bob continue to the veterinary college on foot in search of medicine. Rick and Carol go on a run to a nearby town where they find two uninfected stragglers.

Director: Tricia Brock | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan

Votes: 12,256

Indifference has two story lines throughout this episode. We catch up with Daryl, Michonne, Tyreese, and Bob as they make their way to the veterinary college even after losing their ride. The most memorable moment of the episode is when Rick and Carol go on a run and Rick kicks Carol out of the prison for killing Karen and David.

Episode: Judge, Jury, Executioner (2012)

A lot of debate from the group on whether to kill Randall or not occurs as Dale tries to argue against killing him but only Andrea sides with him. When Rick gets ready to kill Randall in the barn, Carl walks in and encourages his dad to go through with it. Rick decides not to kill him. Meanwhile Dale ventures out towards the woods at night and a walker attacks him. The group runs to his yelling only to have to put him out of his misery.

The scene where Amy turns into a walker in Andreas arms was crazy. It took a lot for Andrea to put her own sister down. The tension of the group is fun to watch build up in this episode but not a whole lot else happens besides making the decision to go to the CDC.

Another Governor based episode but this was done differently than anyone expected. The Governor finds a family and they grow on him so he becomes very protective of them. This is the start for what happens in the mid-season finale.

Episode: Welcome to the Tombs (2013)

Director: Ernest R. Dickerson | Stars: Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Norman Reedus

Shocking episode but disappointing for being a season finale. Instead of all out war between the Prison and Woodbury, Rick's group is able to scare off battle unready survivors. This makes the Governor slaughter his own army. Andrea is bitten by a zombified Milton and kills herself before she dies. The remaining people from Woodbury join the Prison.

Honestly the people that captured Beth are not at all interesting and they kind of bring the episode down. It was not terrible but definitely the worst episode in season 5. Beth is a little stronger but I would rather watch an episode staring Rick, Daryl, Carol, Michonne, or even Abraham.

The weakest episode of the series features only one walker, the well walker, and the story is bland and not moving much at all.
