Top 22 Unmust films receiving unworthy public attention

by Filippos01 | created - 19 Jul 2016 | updated - 01 Oct 2020 | Public

Generally speaking, I believe that the audience has a great sense on picking worthwhile films. These are the exceptions. Substance less films which falsely sold meaning, but if you take a closer look they have none.

1. Antichrist (2009)

Not Rated | 108 min | Drama, Horror, Thriller

49 Metascore

A grieving couple retreat to their cabin in the woods, hoping to repair their broken hearts and troubled marriage, but nature takes its course and things go from bad to worse.

Director: Lars von Trier | Stars: Willem Dafoe, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Storm Acheche Sahlstrøm

Votes: 136,497 | Gross: $0.40M

The saddest part of Trier is that teenagers hear "it's discussing to the as far" and they run to watch 2 hours of horrific, unrealistic, sick of life, one-dimension ode to hate addressed to ages like 14-15. Why would a sane man watch the worst parts of life on a big screen? Why watch a film from a self proclaimed hater of humans? Especially famous he, who hates humanity even if we humans gave him all the love for having a public voice. Shouldn't he at least be content about how mankind treats him? What more proof does he need to at least see the understanding side of humans even at his one dimensional films?

2. Pretty Woman (1990)

R | 119 min | Comedy, Romance

51 Metascore

A man in a legal but hurtful business needs an escort for some social events, and hires a beautiful prostitute he meets... only to fall in love.

Director: Garry Marshall | Stars: Richard Gere, Julia Roberts, Jason Alexander, Laura San Giacomo

Votes: 362,081 | Gross: $178.41M

Cinderalla's myth is much more realistic that this bromance. Funniest part is when Julia considers whether she'll go after the most handsome, richest, loving, good manners guy, or just keep on being the prettiest, most subtle and classier prostitute of all times? This is absurd, blocked from reality and in my mind sends crazy ideas to the world about what love is. "Pretty and lots of cash" These are the kind of crazy love dreams which keep us apart from the factual true love which doesn't only run on f.. pretty or rich. Anyone who ever met a prostitute knows exactly what I'm talking about...

3. Friends (1994–2004)

TV-14 | 22 min | Comedy, Romance

Follows the personal and professional lives of six twenty to thirty year-old friends living in the Manhattan borough of New York City.

Stars: Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc

Votes: 1,087,722

I'm not alone on this one. Friends lack brains and made fortunes for repeating the same jokes and the same "Oh i'm stupid" face expression for years and years. The rhythm goes like this: 1st line, 2nd line, Joke Haha. Again and again and again for the whole show with the characters on a contest of "No you're more stupid"... I'm so happy neer to see Ross's "what do you mean" expressions ever again! Phoebe is like from another show. She's cool.

4. Life Is Beautiful (1997)

PG-13 | 116 min | Comedy, Drama, Romance

58 Metascore

When an open-minded Jewish waiter and his son become victims of the Holocaust, he uses a perfect mixture of will, humor and imagination to protect his son from the dangers around their camp.

Director: Roberto Benigni | Stars: Roberto Benigni, Nicoletta Braschi, Giorgio Cantarini, Giustino Durano

Votes: 742,994 | Gross: $57.60M

Oh come on! What a fake, unreal thinking... How blind can that boy be and not notice that all people around him are tortured and locked? Huh?? Films crying a cubic ton of BS rivers to get our emotional reactions turn my stomach upside down. And to top all, here comes the ironical title "Life is beautiful" and the sublime message that "Life sucks and BS your kids to the bone". Very smart move that will get your kid very far.... Not!

5. Finding Nemo (2003)

G | 100 min | Animation, Adventure, Comedy

90 Metascore

After his son is captured in the Great Barrier Reef and taken to Sydney, a timid clownfish sets out on a journey to bring him home.

Directors: Andrew Stanton, Lee Unkrich | Stars: Albert Brooks, Ellen DeGeneres, Alexander Gould, Willem Dafoe

Votes: 1,113,121 | Gross: $380.84M

I loved all about Nemo until he even broke his fin. I mean, not only he's like the size of a nail, around sharks and never been out seeking for his lost father, he also has a broken fin. Talking about forcing our tears... Low gaming in my eyes for a cry me a river cute animation.

6. The Bourne Ultimatum (2007)

PG-13 | 115 min | Action, Mystery, Thriller

85 Metascore

Jason Bourne dodges a ruthless C.I.A. official and his Agents from a new assassination program while searching for the origins of his life as a trained killer.

Director: Paul Greengrass | Stars: Matt Damon, Edgar Ramírez, Joan Allen, Julia Stiles

Votes: 658,154 | Gross: $227.47M

Matt Damon is special. That's the only reason. Apart from that, yes a fun action thumbing film, but let's not overdo it and position it at the top of any list.

7. Breathless (1960)

Not Rated | 90 min | Crime, Drama

A small-time crook, hunted by the authorities for a car theft and the murder a police officer, attempts to persuade a hip American journalism student to run away with him to Italy.

Director: Jean-Luc Godard | Stars: Jean-Paul Belmondo, Jean Seberg, Van Doude, Jean-Luc Godard

Votes: 87,905 | Gross: $0.34M

I love Gaudard, but this is his most boring film. Has great photography, very beautiful actors but the whole film it's about Belmondo touching his lips in a very promising way. Plot wise, that's it. Nothing else happens.

8. Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)

PG-13 | 138 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

80 Metascore

An astronaut becomes stranded on Mars after his team assume him dead, and must rely on his ingenuity to find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive and can survive until a potential rescue.

Director: Ridley Scott | Stars: Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara

Votes: 924,920 | Gross: $228.43M

In the absence of substance in recent productions there also came the Martian boring crap and philosophical thinking hitting rock bottom for authenticity or knowledge. It's just Matt Damon honking us how great he is. And that's like the tenth film he does that.

10. Skyfall (2012)

PG-13 | 143 min | Action, Adventure, Thriller

81 Metascore

James Bond's loyalty to M is tested when her past comes back to haunt her. When MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.

Director: Sam Mendes | Stars: Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem, Naomie Harris, Judi Dench

Votes: 730,979 | Gross: $304.36M

Watching the classy & intriguing James Bond series turning into this boring fellow with the same name, who kills and jumps and kills and has no class, is so sad. May a miracle happen and future James Bond finds himself and returns to the human kind and not be just another short hair action hero as IS today.

11. Donnie Darko (2001)

R | 113 min | Drama, Mystery, Sci-Fi

88 Metascore

After narrowly escaping a bizarre accident, a troubled teenager is plagued by visions of a man in a large rabbit suit who manipulates him to commit a series of crimes.

Director: Richard Kelly | Stars: Jake Gyllenhaal, Jena Malone, Mary McDonnell, Holmes Osborne

Votes: 849,869 | Gross: $1.48M

Considered a teenagers must film this has much to love. Donnie is unique and the whole film is young and captivating. As long as you don't give a damn about the inconsistent theories expressed.

12. Pan's Labyrinth (2006)

R | 118 min | Drama, Fantasy, War

98 Metascore

In the Falangist Spain of 1944, the bookish young stepdaughter of a sadistic army officer escapes into an eerie but captivating fantasy world.

Director: Guillermo del Toro | Stars: Ivana Baquero, Ariadna Gil, Sergi López, Maribel Verdú

Votes: 702,855 | Gross: $37.63M

Talking about trying too much to get us emotionally involved. This is a scheme, not a film.

13. Lost in Translation (2003)

R | 102 min | Comedy, Drama

91 Metascore

A faded movie star and a neglected young woman form an unlikely bond after crossing paths in Tokyo.

Director: Sofia Coppola | Stars: Bill Murray, Scarlett Johansson, Giovanni Ribisi, Anna Faris

Votes: 488,757 | Gross: $44.59M

Not a bad film, but it really got the Academy Award for original script even if it was 20 pages, and you can 100% tell from the film because it pretty much says nothing. Nothing. Just the lost in translation feeling which is interesting as shown, but not for a script academy award. I mean the rest of the writers create full life in paper..

14. Star Trek (2009)

PG-13 | 127 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

82 Metascore

The brash James T. Kirk tries to live up to his father's legacy with Mr. Spock keeping him in check as a vengeful Romulan from the future creates black holes to destroy the Federation one planet at a time.

Director: J.J. Abrams | Stars: Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Leonard Nimoy

Votes: 620,188 | Gross: $257.73M

JJ Abrams is so overpriced. "Lost" cheated on us at its ending and all his films from then on look good but lack substance as if it's the villain in all his films. So far...

15. Inception (2010)

PG-13 | 148 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

74 Metascore

A thief who steals corporate secrets through the use of dream-sharing technology is given the inverse task of planting an idea into the mind of a C.E.O., but his tragic past may doom the project and his team to disaster.

Director: Christopher Nolan | Stars: Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Elliot Page, Ken Watanabe

Votes: 2,550,041 | Gross: $292.58M

Too much talk about nothing, but at least it looks good.

16. Interstellar (2014)

PG-13 | 169 min | Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi

74 Metascore

When Earth becomes uninhabitable in the future, a farmer and ex-NASA pilot, Joseph Cooper, is tasked to pilot a spacecraft, along with a team of researchers, to find a new planet for humans.

Director: Christopher Nolan | Stars: Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Mackenzie Foy

Votes: 2,098,806 | Gross: $188.02M

This Nolan-NASA film is equally substance less and says big words as if they spent decades as thinkers. But they didn't and it shows. Nolan though is an amazing creator/director to all his films. This is his worst.

17. Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)

R | 120 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

90 Metascore

In a post-apocalyptic wasteland, a woman rebels against a tyrannical ruler in search for her homeland with the aid of a group of female prisoners, a psychotic worshiper and a drifter named Max.

Director: George Miller | Stars: Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Zoë Kravitz

Votes: 1,085,849 | Gross: $154.06M

Mad Max must have spoken in the film around five times. Seriously. A disaster following of a very fantastic trilogy of the real Mad Max. Skip this one 100%.

18. Hail, Caesar! (2016)

PG-13 | 106 min | Comedy, Drama, Mystery

72 Metascore

A Hollywood fixer in the 1950s works to keep the studio's stars in line.

Directors: Ethan Coen, Joel Coen | Stars: Josh Brolin, George Clooney, Alden Ehrenreich, Ralph Fiennes

Votes: 143,136 | Gross: $30.50M

Cohen brothers only get "smarter" and "smarter". Their stories don't connect anymore to anyone else but an elite around NYC? I miss the fun Cohen brothers so much, I wish they come back with a cool film but they haven't since Fargo.

19. Dogville (2003)

R | 178 min | Crime, Drama

61 Metascore

A woman on the run from the mob is reluctantly accepted in a small Colorado community in exchange for labor, but when a search visits the town she finds out that their support has a price.

Director: Lars von Trier | Stars: Nicole Kidman, Paul Bettany, Lauren Bacall, Harriet Andersson

Votes: 158,619 | Gross: $1.53M

Fail of life now on screen. By horror director LV Trier. Looking to ruin your evening or even your whole weekend with just one film? This is it, another substance less, man hater, expensive cry me a river artsy film.

20. In the Mood for Love (2000)

PG | 98 min | Drama, Romance

87 Metascore

Two neighbors form a strong bond after both suspect extramarital activities of their spouses. However, they agree to keep their bond platonic so as not to commit similar wrongs.

Director: Kar-Wai Wong | Stars: Tony Leung Chiu-wai, Maggie Cheung, Siu Ping-Lam, Tung Cho 'Joe' Cheung

Votes: 166,786 | Gross: $2.73M

Famous for it's style and yes it's pretty. The romance though drove me crazy of why don't they.. talk to each other? In a few, an unrealistic romance.

21. Shutter Island (2010)

R | 138 min | Drama, Mystery, Thriller

63 Metascore

Teddy Daniels and Chuck Aule, two US marshals, are sent to an asylum on a remote island in order to investigate the disappearance of a patient, where Teddy uncovers a shocking truth about the place.

Director: Martin Scorsese | Stars: Leonardo DiCaprio, Emily Mortimer, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley

Votes: 1,456,023 | Gross: $128.01M

Can something happen that will free Scorsese and deliver us masterpieces as he did before for the Gangs of New York? We're talking about the creator of Raging Bull and the Taxi Driver, and not shows like this film. Scorsese at 10, myth says, had asthma and had to stay in all day and all he did was observing people from his NYC roof window.

22. Hook (1991)

PG | 142 min | Adventure, Comedy, Family

52 Metascore

When Captain James Hook kidnaps his children, an adult Peter Pan must return to Neverland and reclaim his youthful spirit in order to challenge his old enemy.

Director: Steven Spielberg | Stars: Dustin Hoffman, Robin Williams, Julia Roberts, Bob Hoskins

Votes: 273,192 | Gross: $119.65M

Peter Pan will always be the original Peter Pan story. Many add ons here that kind of take you to the not Peter Pan way of always a teenager as a wise choice. Robbin Williams as Peter Pan could have ruined Peter Pan for me, but thank God it didn't. The only Spielberg and Peter Pan film not to watch.
