” - DirectorMads BaastrupSonja VesterholtStarsPavel KlushantsevZjanna KlusjantsevaRobert SkotakAbout a visual wizard and a fantastic legacy of films which transformed and influenced the science fiction genre as we know it. The Russian filmmaker, Pavel Klusjantsev, has had an extraordinary influence on an entire genre of films. Throughout his career at the film studio in St. Petersburg, Klushantsev pioneered and invented legendary techniques for filming the planets, stars and weightnessless - long before anyone else. He went on to redefine the science fiction genre and influence the way Hollywood made their science fiction films, including the Academy Award-winning Visual Effects Master, Robert Skotak, a man who spent years trying to track Klushantsev down. This is a film about a fantastic inventor and dreamer whose destiny was intimately linked with the Space Race and the whims of the Soviet dictatorship. However, despite dying blind and penniless, Klushantsev has left an indelible mark on the history of film and inspired countless filmmakers. The Star Dreamer ensures that the name of Pavel Klushantsev lives on.dok. o PK

The Star Dreamer
1910-1999, St. Petersburg
cameraman, film director, producer, screenwriter and author
Ambasadorem twórczości Kłuszancewa jest m.in.
Oficjalna filmografia Kłuszancewa to ledwie sześć pozycji.
Zmarł w 1999 roku, w nędzy i zapomnieniu.
He is considering the founder of genre of space fantasy in the world cinema.
A self-taught special effects engineer, far ahead of his time, Klushantsev devised many effects and techniques used by major motion pictures for decades to come.
He is a well-known in the whole world writer of popular scientific juvenile books.
An English language documentary on Pavel Klushantsev's life and achievements, The Star Dreamer, was released in 2002 by Danish Vesterholt Film and TV.

Prior to this film, Klushantsev's films were strictly factual, but here, the film builds on fact and extends it. The film becomes a hybrid documentary blending science with fiction edging firmly into science fiction.
This film's special effects – the scientific accuracy of depicting weightlessness, construction in earth orbit, a rotating space station, and rocket travel to the moon – were the cutting edge visual effects of their time.
It combines elements of science education films and speculative science fiction. The film was groundbreaking for its use of special effects to depict life in space.
The first half of the film is historical and educational in nature, depicting mostly the life and scientific contributions of Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, along with the basic principles of rocket propulsion, ballistics, and Space Flight. It also depicts the contributions of Max Valier and Robert Goddard.
The second half of the film is speculative in nature, with various scenes showing manned space flight (4 years before the flight of Yuri Gagarin), a large space station (in great detail), and the first man on the moon (12 years before the flight of Apollo 11), as well as lunar colonization.
The film was far ahead of its time in terms of cinematic special effects. In particular, it shows wheel-shaped space station eleven years before Kubrick's famous film 2001: A Space Odyssey.
The film is believed to have significantly influenced Stanley Kubrick's techniques in 2001: A Space Odyssey, particularly in its accurate depiction of weightlessness and a rotating space station. Encyclopedia Astronautica describes some scenes from 2001 as a "shot-for-shot duplication of Road to the Stars".[3] Specific comparisons of shots from the two films have been analyzed by the filmmaker Alessandro Cima.[4] A 1994 article in American Cinematographer says, "When Stanley Kubrick made 2001: a Space Odyssey in 1968, he claimed to have been first to fly actor/astronauts on wires with the camera on the ground, shooting vertically while the actor's body covered the wires" but observes that Klushantsev had preceded him in this. - DirectorPavel KlushantsevStarsVladimir EmelyanovGeorgi ZhzhyonovGennadi VernovCosmonauts land on the planet Venus. Planet of the Storms
PK - dir, scen
Zbuntowany robot spotyka człowieka w gumowym kostiumie tyranozaura.
Planet of the Storms (Planeta Bur), Klushantsev's only feature film, was released in 1962. For this film, Klushantsev is especially noted for his meticulous design and creation of "John the Robot". Based on Chester E. Macduffee's 1911 heavy Cast-Aluminium Diving Suit, it had over 42 points of articulation on its major body joints – one of the most technically complex robot costumes of its time.
The film was subsequently expanded and re-edited by Roger Corman for American distribution – as Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet (1965) by Curtis Harrington and as Voyage to the Planet of Prehistoric Women (1968) by Peter Bogdanovich. In both these versions, the original scenes drew acclaim.
Subsequent to Planet of the Storms, Klushantsev fell into disfavor in USSR and returned to making more science-based films. - DirectorPavel KlushantsevStory of the Moon told by scientists.
"Planeta burz" została zdubbingowana, rosyjscy aktorzy dostali fikcyjne anglosaskie nazwiska, a materiał powierzono dwóm młodym filmowcom. Tak powstała film "Voyage to the Planet of Prehistoric Women".
Amerykańskie wersje filmu niejako powtarzają ten gest – podróż w kosmos odbywa się niby według scenariusza Kłuszancewa, jednak (dzięki dubbingowi i wymontowaniu wstawek propagandowych) realizuje go załoga amerykańska.
Corman urzeczywistnił jednocześnie marzenie i koszmar Rosjanina. Ostatecznie ta dziwaczna trylogia to z dzisiejszej perspektywy osiągnięcie radziecko-amerykańskie, a więc międzynarodowy sojusz, o którym miał opowiadać jego niezrealizowany film. - DirectorCurtis HarringtonPavel KlushantsevStarsBasil RathboneFaith DomergueMarc ShannonIn 2020, after the colonization of the moon, the spaceships Vega, Sirius and Capella are launched from Lunar Station 7.
