- DirectorKevin LimaStarsAmy AdamsSusan SarandonJames MarsdenA young maiden in a land called Andalasia, who is prepared to be wed, is sent away to New York City by an evil Queen, where she falls in love with a lawyer.Lovely, lighthearted movie. Made me glow for a week.
Watched: 12/7/16 - DirectorAdam ShankmanStarsJohn TravoltaQueen LatifahNikki BlonskyPleasantly plump teenager Tracy Turnblad teaches 1962 Baltimore a thing or two about integration after landing a spot on a local TV dance show.Pretty cute and uplifting. The nonchalant comments used to show us how racist the characters were ("We'll steer these kids in the white direction.") really clever and humorous. That said, for a movie where racism was a central theme, there were not that many black character with speaking roles. I did about cry when Inez won though.
Watched 12/7/16 - DirectorAnne FletcherStarsKatherine HeiglJames MarsdenMalin AkermanAfter serving as a bridesmaid 27 times, a young woman wrestles with the idea of standing by her sister's side as her sibling marries the man she's secretly in love with.It had the usual flaws of most romance movies. All the best romances start with a stalker, right? He kinda got over that though. "I liked that fight we had" is not actually the best reason to love someone. However, I did enjoy the movie, and I thought "Beanie and the Jets" was cute.
Watched 12/7/16 - DirectorTony PiccirilloStarsJames MarsdenScott SpeedmanSofía VergaraTom (Speedman) and Dan's (Marsden) one-night stand turns into an intense power-play between captor and captive.Man I gotta watch more of these teeny weeny budget movies because DAMN I was into that. Anyone whose heard me talk about movies knows I love a movie to be as streamlined and minimalist as possible, and even though this movie is exactly that, I thought all scenes outside of Tom's apartment, including Tom's flashbacks and Dan's conversation with Sophia's character could have (read: should have) been cut, they just didn't add anything to the story, like at all. But I'm nitpicking, with barely more than two characters, this movie could be the definition of streamlined. The production value seems to have just been a crisp 20 dollar bill and the two main character are named Tom and Dan, which is not only boring, but so similar it is legitimately confusing, but the story itself is so intense and compelling. Definitely worth a watch, especially for an aspiring amateur filmmaker, because it shows you that you don't need money to make a quality film.
Watched 12/8/16 - DirectorTim HillStarsRussell BrandJames MarsdenElizabeth PerkinsE.B., the Easter Bunny's teenage son, heads to Hollywood, determined to become a drummer in a rock 'n' roll band. In LA, he's taken in by Fred after the out-of-work slacker hits E.B. with his car. That was something... Or was it? I'm not sure.
But Carlos, who worked right underneath the Easter Bunny for years couldn't be the next one because he was... a chicken? But Fred, a human, just gets to be a "Co-Easter Bunny" because????? Was there any reason besides what I have to recognize as racism keeping the chicks from running Easter?????
Also, I'm sorry, James Marsden looks fantastic and youthful but he does not look like a 20-something directionless millennial no matter how many hoodies you put him in.
Watched 12/9/16 - DirectorJake SchreierStarsPeter SarsgaardFrank LangellaSusan SarandonIn the near future, an ex-jewel thief receives a gift from his son: a robot butler programmed to look after him. But soon the two companions try their luck as a heist team.Beautiful movie. It took me longer than I'd like to admit to connect the parallel between Frank's memory loss and choosing to wipe Robot's hard drive. A sort of simplistic and clever film with a sad thoughtful ending. I'm glad I watched it, but I'm not sure I'll be raving about it. The script was very polished with little to no plot holes. The characters were fleshed out and realistic, especially Hunter, I think.
Watched 12/9/16 - DirectorAndrew MogelJarrad PaulStarsJack BlackJames MarsdenKathryn HahnThe head of a high school reunion committee tries to get the most popular guy in school to attend their class' upcoming 20-year reunion. This is one of those movies you watch and go "That would have been great if everything was different."
I expected this movie to be the all so common "Fun Guy shakes up Family Man's life, Family gets jealous and weird then makes some mistakes, Fun Guy leaves family with a lesson and they're all happier." And unfortunately I was right....
I had gotten my hopes up when we finally met Oliver, who seemed pretty depressed and was as much of a loser and outsider in HIS world as Dan was back home. They did brush on this, but only in a confessional apologetic kinda way. They could have really dug into the emotion on this. I felt I could have empathized more with Oliver if they had followed him a little more. Instead of showing me just Dan's fatherly breakdown, maybe we could have seen a little more of the weight on Oliver's shoulder from having to puff himself up and pretend to be some kind of Mr. Cool when he was having his own little breakdown.
Completely different topic: this movie wasn't that funny. Maybe I'm just not in a humorous mood but I only remember laughing once. That's probably why I wanted more from it emotionally.
"I could have *beep* either of you, but I didn't." might actually be the best line ever in terms of summing up how Oliver felt about Dan, how the classmates felt about Oliver, and completely shutting down their homophobic remarks all while being hilarious.
Watched 12/9/16 - DirectorErik Van LooyStarsKarl UrbanJames MarsdenWentworth MillerFive married guys secretly share a penthouse loft in the city where they can carry out hidden affairs. The fantasy becomes a nightmare, however, when they discover a dead woman in the loft and realize one of the group must be involved. This movie can be described in two words, "Wait... What?"
With a heavy noir feel, this movie pulls through the first 2/3 pretty well, as long as you don't go "Call the *beep* police before you contaminate this *beep* crime scene you morons. Who cares about saving your *beep* marriages that you decided to *beep* up, a woman is DEAD. You could get charged with MURDER. Call the police, dumbass."
But after the first Big Reveal it gets a little messy.
Then they tried to frame Vincent for... being with a girl who committed suicide? Because Chris seemed upset when it became a murder charge, but that's not actually a crime. And the red herring about Luke being in love with Vincent but he actually love that one chick. Why?!? This movie is convoluted enough with its flashbacks and flash-forwards, I didn't really need it to lie about the motivations of a murderer as yet another Game Changer.
Watched 12/9/16 - DirectorRod LurieStarsJames MarsdenKate BosworthAlexander SkarsgårdLos Angeles screenwriter David Sumner relocates with his wife to her hometown in the deep South. There, while tensions build between them, a brewing conflict with locals becomes a threat to them both.Boring. Not even sure what could have been improved, I was just bored bored bored. I'd like to see the original and compare.
I *beep* hate those glasses.

- DirectorBen StillerStarsBen StillerOwen WilsonChristine TaylorAt the end of his career, a clueless fashion model is brainwashed to kill the Prime Minister of Malaysia. That's so dumb I love it.
Zoolander didn't brighten my day like Enchanted did, unfortunately, but it was still a solid watch.
12/12/16 - DirectorDavis GuggenheimStarsJames MarsdenLena HeadeyNorman ReedusThree college students base their class project around gossip and how fast it spreads, which soon spirals out of control.Much like "The Loft", "Gossip" keeps you in of uncertainty, but it feels more deliberate in this one. Instead of pulling you in and out of flashbacks and flashforwards filled with game changing information, instead Gossip gives us words, often started off with "I heard..."
"I heard they had sex."
"I heard he raped her."
"I heard you had a crush on him."
Eventually you start to doubt this fairy tale we call "The Truth" will ever come out. Even though I found the conclusion slightly disappointing, I still believe Gossip has something to say how we as humans understand our world. And how often we truly rely on the words of other to build our realities.
12/12/16 - DirectorSteven BrillStarsElizabeth BanksJames MarsdenGillian JacobsA reporter's dream of becoming a news anchor is compromised after a one-night stand leaves her stranded in downtown L.A. without a phone, car, ID or money - and only 8 hours to make it to the most important job interview of her life.Ok. This movie was a little reptitive at times with EVERYONE assuming she's a hooker and asking for something perverse in return for helping her. But the beginning and end was pretty damn cute. Absolutely loved that drunk scene, kinda wish there was more romance becuase they were so cute together. Apparently I'm in a mood for romance...

Watched 12/13/16 - DirectorShira PivenStarsKristen WiigJames MarsdenLinda CardelliniWhen Alice Klieg wins the Mega-Millions lottery, she immediately quits her psychiatric meds and buys her own talk show.Damn Kristen Wiig can act. To a point that it makes it hard to laugh at her character because you feel for her too much.
