31 Spooky Movies in October
I need to get into watching more Halloween type movies. Some are scary, thrillers, horror, or just themed around Halloween. I'm trying to watch 31 in the month of October, yep I'm that creative.

- DirectorCharles GuardThomas GuardStarsEmily BrowningArielle KebbelElizabeth BanksAnna returns home after a stint in a mental hospital, but her recovery is jeopardized by her father's new girlfriend and ghastly visions of her dead mother.Very interesting plot twist, didn't see it coming. Impressed. Not very scary at all but still worth watching, kind of reminds me of Disturbia. You go into watching it thinking it'll be scary but really the story line is just interesting.
- DirectorJoe DanteStarsChris MassogliaHaley BennettNathan GambleA pair of brothers stumble upon a mysterious hole in their basement that leads to the darkest corridors of their fears and nightmares. For a random Netflix pick I was surprised by this movie. This one actually scared me more then a lot of the others on this list. Maybe it's the fact that I wasn't expecting it or the fact that there's a black hole with endless possibilities, either way, not bad. I definitely recommend this one to anyone just bored on a Netflix kind of night. I enjoyed it, it wasn't overly scary but I did get startled a few times, only a few. Not as cheesy as I was expecting it to be. Has some mystery in it so it keeps it interesting.
- DirectorDuwayne DunhamStarsDebbie ReynoldsKimberly J. BrownJudith HoagWhen a young girl living with her secret witch mother learns she too is a witch, she must help her witch grandmother save Halloweentown from evil forces.I really wish I had watched this when I was younger. I would have enjoyed it so much more. Classic 90's movie, cheesy/below average acting, misunderstood teen, and obvious villain. I'm going to blame it on me being in my 20's and this movies target audience being below teens for the villain being super obvious. Definitely not scary but does show Halloween in a different light.
- DirectorMasayuki OchiaiStarsJoshua JacksonRachael TaylorJames KysonA newly married couple discovers disturbing, ghostly images in photographs they develop after a tragic accident. Fearing the manifestations may be connected, they investigate and learn that some mysteries are better left unsolved.Wow, I'm surprised this has such a high rating. Especially since it's an adaptation of a Thai film. After watching this one I definitely do want to see the original film (even if it means enduring subtitles.) I really love photography so I was very interested in this movie. The twist this movie had actually cause a physical reaction for me which not many other movies on the list did. Pretty good, I think it's worth watching. Don't expect to be scared though, it's much more of a mystery.
- DirectorGriffin DunneStarsSandra BullockNicole KidmanStockard ChanningTwo witch sisters, raised by their eccentric aunts in a small town, face closed-minded prejudice and a curse which threatens to prevent them ever finding lasting love.I was surprised it took me so long to see this movie, RomCom's are by thing. However I would not classify this as a RomCom. It does have the romance but the comedy isn't very strong. Don't get be wrong there are some silly parts that make you smile but there are other movies on this list that made me "laugh" too and they aren't labeled as comedies. Nothing scary about this movie, I wouldn't even say there is much mystery in it either, kind of obvious what was going to end up happening. Some sad parts, but the ending leaves you smiling so it's labeled as lighthearted in my book.
- DirectorTom HarperStarsHelen McCroryJeremy IrvinePhoebe Fox40 years after the first haunting at Eel Marsh House, a group of children evacuated from WWII London arrives, awakening the house's darkest inhabitant.Like all sequels the original was better. This one was interesting to me, not every day a movie has children murdering themselves. This movie also gets props for having an actual hot guy in it, I don't know but there hasn't been any eye candy throughout this list. Finally had some. It was interesting how it tied in with the first "Woman in Black" but it also didn't rely on the ties so much so that you have to watch the first one before this one. (They stand on their own so you don't have to watch the first one to understand this one. Especially since the first one isn't on Netflix like this one is.) Wasn't very scary, had a few moments that made me want to turn the lights on but I still managed to get to sleep alright after finishing it.
- DirectorBrian De PalmaStarsMichael CaineAngie DickinsonNancy AllenA mysterious blonde woman kills one of a psychiatrist's patients, and then goes after the high-class call girl who witnessed the murder.I really didn't see the plot twist in this movie, wasn't even expecting one for how old it is. Definitely a movie you need to see more then once to see all the different angles.
- DirectorFritz KierschStarsPeter HortonLinda HamiltonR.G. ArmstrongA young couple is trapped in a remote town where a dangerous religious cult of children believes that everyone over age 18 must be killed. So I'm never going to look at a field of corn the same again, that's for sure. This one wasn't as scary as I thought it would be. Since it's a famous book/movie I was expecting some frights but maybe the fact that it's such an old film settled it. Not very scary, actually kind of funny at times. Definitely fell in love with JoeB, such a cutie pie. The rest of the kids can die though, super creepy. Not interested in having kids any time soon after this movie.
- DirectorMary LambertStarsKimberly J. BrownJudith HoagDaniel KountzA young witch and her grandmother work together to foil the plans of a wicked warlock's son before he can use powerful spells to create chaos in the world.Well if you haven't see the first one then the title really ruins who the villain is. Whoever titled this movie didn't pick the best name, after all some of the mystery is in who is doing what to the world, the title gives it away very easily.
- DirectorMark A.Z. DippéStarsKimberly J. BrownDebbie ReynoldsJudith HoagA girl in a magical world bets her family's magic that nothing bad will happen when kids from Halloweentown attend high school in the mortal realm. Not too bad, I actually couldn't decide right away who the villain was so that was actually a nice little mystery. If you saw the other Halloweentown movies this one is a must, in the same category as the other two. Not bad.
- DirectorJerome SableStarsMinnie DriverMeat LoafAllie MacDonaldA snobby musical theater camp is terrorized by a blood-thirsty killer who hates musical theater.Very cheesy, which I was expecting. Not any good singers, for a musical movie, surprised. The casting just didn't seem right for a lot of the characters. It was extremely obvious to me who the killer was. So I assume it's obvious to a lot of people. Not the worst movie on the list but not by much, not scary at all. Just slight gore but that's all reserved for the last 20 minutes or so.
- DirectorDavid JacksonStarsSara PaxtonJudith HoagLucas GrabeelMarnie and Dylan are going to follow their dreams to go to college, at Halloweentown University, which is also known as Witch University. How can you change the main character? Like no one would notice? At least make the main character an entirely different person, a cousin, a daughter, a next door neighbor even. Anyone other then the main character who has been in the last three movies. Especially since the rest of the cast stayed the same. Couldn't stick it out for one more movie. This one is a pass in my opinion, you don't get the same feels as the other three. This series should have remained a trilogy.
- DirectorTomm CokerDavid ElliotStarsShannyn SossamonPinkEmil HostinaVictoria visits her sister in Paris and goes to a rave in the catacombs under the city, on her first night. The remains of over 6,000,000 people are there and something evil is lurking in the tunnels.Worst one so far, only 13 in but still. Horrible, horrible movie. Pink actually wasn't that bad of an actress. the story line and the main character's screams were so annoying. Not even a little scary.
- DirectorStewart HendlerStarsBriana EviganRumer WillisCarrie FisherA group of sorority sisters try to cover up the death of their house-sister after a prank gone wrong, only to be stalked by a serial killer.
- DirectorCourtney SolomonStarsDonald SutherlandSissy SpacekRachel Hurd-WoodAn invisible entity haunts a 19th century family, and family secrets soon begin to surface.
