1. Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)

R | 120 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

90 Metascore

In a post-apocalyptic wasteland, a woman rebels against a tyrannical ruler in search for her homeland with the aid of a group of female prisoners, a psychotic worshiper and a drifter named Max.

Director: George Miller | Stars: Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Zoë Kravitz

Votes: 1,085,428 | Gross: $154.06M

This is the first film of the list and possibly one of the best. The well choreographed action scenes are a blast to watch. The film could be boring essentially only being a chase scene, but it manages to keep audiences attention by being heartfelt and human. 5/17/15

2. Force Majeure (2014)

R | 120 min | Comedy, Drama

87 Metascore

A family vacationing in the French Alps is confronted with a devastating avalanche.

Director: Ruben Östlund | Stars: Johannes Kuhnke, Lisa Loven Kongsli, Clara Wettergren, Vincent Wettergren

Votes: 67,063 | Gross: $1.36M

Tension is the filmmakers main tool. Shots are stable and composed very well. When movement is used, it is slow and methodical. The acting feels natural and real, almost like we are watching a documentary. A slow burn, but well worth the watch. 5/18/15

3. Farscape (1999–2003)
Episode: The Hidden Memory (2000)

TV-14 | 50 min | Action, Adventure, Drama

Director: Ian Watson | Stars: Ben Browder, Claudia Black, Virginia Hey, Anthony Simcoe

Votes: 877

5/19/15

Director: Alain Resnais | Stars: Delphine Seyrig, Giorgio Albertazzi, Sacha Pitoëff, Françoise Bertin

Votes: 24,878 | Gross: $0.06M

Death comes for us all, that is the message of Last Year at Marienbad.

5/20/15

5. The Jerk (1979)

R | 94 min | Comedy

61 Metascore

A simpleminded, sheltered country boy suddenly decides to leave his family home to experience life in the big city, where his naivete is both his best friend and his worst enemy.

Director: Carl Reiner | Stars: Steve Martin, Bernadette Peters, Catlin Adams, Mabel King

Votes: 64,175 | Gross: $73.69M

Seen this film before, and though it is slow in bits, Steve Martin is entertaining and the jokes are memorable. 5/22/15

6. Mission: Impossible (1996)

PG-13 | 110 min | Action, Adventure, Thriller

59 Metascore

An American agent, under false suspicion of disloyalty, must discover and expose the real spy without the help of his organization.

Director: Brian De Palma | Stars: Tom Cruise, Jon Voight, Emmanuelle Béart, Henry Czerny

Votes: 470,092 | Gross: $180.98M

The plot is cliched but DePalma remains an excellent visual storyteller. Seeing his previous films like Blow Out, Carlito's Way and Dressed to Kill made me appreciate this film more for what DePalma was trying to go for. No doubt Cruise had a major hand in trying to make this a more popular film, since he was one of the producers. 5/23/15

7. The Producers (1967)

PG | 88 min | Comedy, Music

96 Metascore

A stage-play producer devises a plan to make money by producing a sure-fire flop.

Director: Mel Brooks | Stars: Zero Mostel, Gene Wilder, Dick Shawn, Kenneth Mars

Votes: 59,791 | Gross: $0.11M

A zanny and early Mel Brooks film that makes you laugh from start to finish. The film slows down from time to time but is overall a very engaging and funny film. In some ways it feels like Brooks could have done even more with the film. Just as things were starting to pick up, it skips to the end of the film. Regardless, a new film has been added to my wishlist. 5/24/15

8. Thief (1981)

R | 123 min | Action, Crime, Drama

78 Metascore

An ace safe cracker wants to do one last big heist for the mob before going straight.

Director: Michael Mann | Stars: James Caan, Tuesday Weld, Willie Nelson, Jim Belushi

Votes: 38,927 | Gross: $11.49M

The film is slow paced and hopes that we connect with James Caan. Caan creates an interesting complex character who never takes beef from anyone. But the plot is thin and the story relatively uninteresting. 5/25/15

9. The Comedy (2012)

Not Rated | 95 min | Comedy, Drama

46 Metascore

Indifferent to the notion of inheriting his father's estate, a restless, aging New Yorker passes time with his friends in games of mock sincerity and irreverence.

Director: Rick Alverson | Stars: Tim Heidecker, Eric Wareheim, James Murphy, Jeffrey Jensen

Votes: 5,384 | Gross: $0.04M

Sardonic, slow and irreverant, Tom Hecker plays a convincing role as douche bag hipster. He isn't completely unlikeable however as he tries to interact with other more normal people around him. 5/26/15

10. Man on Wire (2008)

PG-13 | 94 min | Documentary, Biography, Crime
