- DirectorDan GilroyStarsJake GyllenhaalRene RussoBill PaxtonWhen Louis Bloom, a con man desperate for work, muscles into the world of L.A. crime journalism, he blurs the line between observer and participant to become the star of his own story.Gyllenhaal was snubbed, it's unbelievable he did not (at least) get a nomination for this performance. The directing is breathtaking, the acting is great from both Russo and Riz Ahmed, even though Gyllenhaal takes the cake.
This movie is creepy and Bloom - the main character - is deeply unsettling and it makes for an unforgettable watch that leaves your skin tingling. - DirectorDamien ChazelleStarsMiles TellerJ.K. SimmonsMelissa BenoistA promising young drummer enrolls at a cut-throat music conservatory where his dreams of greatness are mentored by an instructor who will stop at nothing to realize a student's potential.J.K Simmons is so underused in Hollywood it should be considered a sin. His performance in this movie secured his oscar and fear in the hearts of many who watched Whiplash. The directing is inventive but not too over the top and Milles Teller provides the best performance of his career.
(If you commit to watching this movie, give it the respect it deserves and watch it in one go. The timing of this movie is what gives it such a great edge and it's ruined if it's paused every few minutes.) - DirectorWes AndersonStarsRalph FiennesF. Murray AbrahamMathieu AmalricA writer encounters the owner of an aging high-class hotel, who tells him of his early years serving as a lobby boy in the hotel's glorious years under an exceptional concierge. The movie is very good, the directing is f*&king amazing. The colours, lighting and set are all perfectly done and Anderson ends up making one of the best movies of the year.
- DirectorPeter SattlerStarsKristen StewartPayman MaadiLane GarrisonA soldier assigned to Guantanamo Bay befriends a man who has been imprisoned there.A little predictable at times and panders slightly but a voice that needs to be heard and Moaadi provides a fantastic performance for Stewart to match.
