- DirectorAndré ØvredalStarsOtto JespersenRobert StoltenbergKnut NærumA group of students investigates a series of mysterious bear killings, but learns that there are much more dangerous things going on. They start to follow a mysterious hunter, learning that he is actually a troll hunter.Great low budget foreign film. Starts off a little slow, but keep and open mind and you will be rewarded! I can still hear one of the main characters shout " TROLLLLLLSKE ! " every time I see the poster or pass it on Netflix.
Proof that you dont always need a huge budget or superstars to make a solid flick. Some might argue the horror aspect, but there's a few parts that give it that feel. - DirectorLuis CámaraStarsGeorgia MackenzieMark WilsonPascal LangdaleSeven guests are invited to an after party on the abandoned floor of an office building, handpicked to play a series sadistic and deadly puzzles. You either love this movie or outright hate it. This movie pretty much started my obsession with low budget indie movies and giving lesser known films a watch.
Somewhat of a cliche plotline, however I challenge you to guess who the killer is before the end! - DirectorRichard RaaphorstStarsRobert GwilymHon Ping TangAlexander TerentyevIn the dying days of WWII, a battalion of Russian soldiers is lured into the secret lab of a deranged scientist and forced to face off against an army of horrific flesh-and-metal war machines.Great little found footage film! With all the garbage found footage movies coming out lately this was a breath of fresh air!
And I mean, Frankenstein and Nazis. What more can you ask for. Watch this with an open mind and enjoy the ludicrousness! - DirectorGonzalo López-GallegoStarsSharlto CopleyThomas KretschmannJosie HoA man wakes up with no memory in a pit full of dead bodies in the wilderness and must determine if the murderer is one of the strangers who rescued him, or if he himself is the killer. This movie has a special place in my horror heart. With all the found footage and horror movies being done to death lately, this took a particular genre and merged/mixed it with another.
The familiar "Man wakes up with amnesia..." plotline is used, but slowly develops into something much more. I had no idea what the hell was going on by the halfway mark, but I loved it!
Keeps you guessing until the very end in a good way! - DirectorCarlo LedesmaStarsBel DeliáAndy RodoredaSteve DavisAn investigation into a government cover-up leads to a network of abandoned train tunnels deep beneath the heart of Sydney. As a journalist and her crew hunt for the story it quickly becomes clear the story is hunting them. This movie blew me away! It captures the phobia of being lost somewhere endless with dwindling light and being chased by a relentless force perfectly! The "creature" is still something me and my friends argue about to this day and is shown sparingly...using your own imagination to conjure up something truly evil is effective.
I also found out this movie was made pretty much for free using indie funding and Australian awesomeness. More proof that you don't need HUGE incomes and Superstars to make a great film! - DirectorMichael GoiStarsAmber PerkinsRachel QuinnDean WaiteTwo teenage girls encounter an Internet child predator.A plotline that's been done a 100 times over, yet no other movie i've seen ever did it this effectively ( aside from maybe The Den, which is also on this list )
I don't have much to say about this movie other than the fact that it cost me a friend at the time who had a daughter and walked in on the rape scene. Absolutely brutal and unforgiving at points, this movie pulls no punches.
The last 15-20 minutes are brutal to sit through and not feel queasy. - DirectorZachary DonohueStarsMelanie PapaliaDavid SchlachtenhaufenAdam ShapiroWhile studying the habits of web cam chat users from the apparent safety of her own home, a young woman's life begins to spiral out of control after witnessing a grisly murder online.Cyber movies are hard to get into IMO. The fact that the bad guy is usually not shown for the entirety of the movie, or shown very sparingly works against them to convey actual horror or that something is lurking behind the screen.
This movie proves that theory wrong, so very wrong. Once we see the webcam light turn on, you can literally see the woman's life unravelling as the villain stalks her personal life.
I still put tape over the webcam when I use my laptop. - CreatorMick GarrisStarsMargherita DonatoValerie WhiteEric RobertsA television series broken down into 13 separate 60-minute films from premiere horror writers and directors.Masters of Horror pops up on quite a few horror lists, but I rarely see this gem of a show. Done by the same creator, Fear itself came after masters of horror but was done by the same creator!
Only 1 season long at 13 episodes, they all pack quite a punch and they vary in content. If you liked Masters of Horror do yourself a favour and give this show a watch! - DirectorSimon RumleyStarsAmanda FullerMarc SenterJon Michael DavisA woman attracts the attention of a psychopathic former Army interrogator and an emotionally fragile young man caring for his depressed mother.Sometimes fear isn't something lurking in the dark or sharp teeth and a set of claws. Sometimes the scariest thing can be a death sentence by disease or something having complete control of your life/future and you're powerless to stop it.
This film involves the a woman that is HIV positive and makes it her mission to sleep with as many men as possible. Involves 3 separate story lines ( or main characters) that come together in an explosion. - DirectorMichael CraftStarsMatthew ScullyRobert PriceElise GreigWorking at an underground city storage facility, a young man discovers evidence of a murder and vows to bring the killer to justice.Australian horror has been up and coming for a few years now. I found this gem on Netflix ( of all places! ) and was blown away. Can't really explain it too much without giving a lot of it away. A
ll I can say is that I highly recommend this film and it's another great example of the talent coming out of Australian film making these days! - DirectorNicolas Winding RefnStarsKim BodniaZlatko BuricLaura DrasbækA drug pusher grows increasingly desperate after a botched deal leaves him with a large debt to a ruthless drug lord.A film that is, in my own humble opinion, one of the most underrated movies of all time.
This film follows Frank, a drug dealer who starts to make and continue to make such a series of bad choices throughout this movie that you'll want to punch him in the face for being an idiot. With that said however, his life quickly spirals out of control in an amazing fashion.
This film will always have a special place in my heart and I absolutely love it. - DirectorNicolas Winding RefnStarsMads MikkelsenLeif SylvesterAnne SørensenTonny is released from prison - again. This time he has his mind set on changing his broken down life, but that is easier said than done.I know what you're thinking, A SEQUEL?! The unspoken rule is that sequels are generally a money grab or absolute garbage ( The notable exceptions being The Godfather and Aliens )
This film smashes that rule. it follows Tonny ( Franks right hand man from the first movie ) as he gets out of prison and tries to win his fathers respect. Every bit as engrossing as the first and much more emotional - DirectorNicolas Winding RefnStarsZlatko BuricMarinela DekicSlavko LabovicMilo tries to be a family man and run his criminal organization, but a wrong drug shipment endangers everything.By this point, you're all thinking I'm crazy! The THIRD movie!? This film follows Milo ( the drug lord from the first 2 ) around for a day and is the goriest of all 3 movies.
Milo quickly finds himself in an undesirable situation and things just spiral out of control from there. - DirectorAharon KeshalesNavot PapushadoStarsLior AshkenaziRotem KeinanTzahi GradAfter a little girl is brutally murdered, a suspect avoids arrest due to lack of evidence. Working separately, her father and a cop decide to do something about it.This film was awesome. More proof that humans can sometimes be the scariest kind of horror!
This film follows a few different characters trying to illicit a confession from someone they know is guilty...or is he? - DirectorGiulio De SantiStarsRayner BourtonMichael HoweJessica CarrollAssigned the easy task of assassinating a couple in a hotel room, instead, a hardened contract killer finds himself fighting for his life in a maze-like place crammed with demonic henchmen. Can he escape from the nightmarish Hotel Inferno? This film might not be for everyone. It places a huge emphasis on gore and blood, but I found the ludicrous plotline quite enjoyable and it's got somewhat of a first person shooter feel.
Leave the critic at the door and take in some of the gory special effects! - DirectorTakashi MiikeStarsRyo IshibashiEihi ShiinaTetsu SawakiA widower takes an offer to screen girls at a special audition, arranged for him by a friend to find him a new wife. The one he fancies is not who she appears to be after all. This movie stayed with me for quite a while after the end credits finished rolling. A slow burner from Takashi Miike, I guarantee that you will never look at steel wire the same way or want to be near a pincushion!
Appearances arn't always what they seem. - DirectorLucky McKeeStarsLauren BirkellAgnes BrucknerJane GilchristSet in 1965 New England, a troubled girl encounters mysterious happenings in the woods surrounding an isolated girls school that she was sent to by her disinterested parents.Great little movie that either didn't get much publicity or just kind of faded into obscurity. A girl is sent to a mysterious Girl's school in the woods because she tried to kill her stepmother...
However the school and teachers are not quite right and mystery ensues. Some great scares and pays homage to Suspiria quite a bit IMO - DirectorAdam MasonStarsAndrew HowardPollyanna RoseOlivia HillWith a pocketful of drugs, Nick West takes out his girlfriend Sammy, for a good time. When they explore an abandoned asylum, the discovery of a bizarre device, a cross between an electric chair and sadistic fetish machine, transforms drugged-out bliss into agony and despair. After Sammy is brutally assaulted and murdered by unseen forces, Nick becomes the number-one suspect. Years pass and Nick, who had been locked up in a mental hospital, is released into the care of eminent psychiatrist Dr. Willard, who is hell-bent on exposing the truth behind the killing. Accompanied by Dr. Willard and several of his students, Nick returns to the scene of the crime. However, the decrepit asylum hides a blood-drenched secret. This movie took me by surprise! Found it in the bargain bin for $5 at the local Wal-Mart.
This movie takes you in one direction and then throws a huge plot twist at you. Well written and acted, i recommend this movie to any horror fan. - DirectorDallas Richard HallamPatrick HorvathStarsSuziey BlockKaren BairdFarley BurgeENTRANCE is about the limits of our perception, how the things lurking on the periphery of our lives can lead to horrific conclusions; about how she fell out of love with the city, but it wouldn't let her go.Ever thought someone's following you or lurking in the shadows? This movie captures that eerie feeling perfectly. The main character is either losing her mind and looking into things way too much or something sinister is happening to her life.
Try to see if you can catch what's going on. - DirectorFederico ZampaglioneStarsJake MuxworthyKarina TestaOttaviano BlitchWhen a young soldier leaves for a mountain biking excursion, he meets the girl of his dreams as well as a group of violent locals who want to see them dead at any cost.Another great unheard of horror movie for the most part. A man goes biking through Europe and gets himself into a terrible situation. Is he losing his mind or is something much more sinister going on?!
A great take on a plot line that's been done to death in recent years. - DirectorTobe HooperStarsAngela BettisBrent RoamMarco RodríguezA historic Hollywood hotel houses a supernatural evil. It's been subdued for decades, but when renovations start, a series of murders take place.Another movie that seems to have no inbetween on the love/hate relationship. Personally I thought it was a fresh take on horror and with Tobe Hooper at the helm, I really liked it.
A remake of an 80's slasher, this one has a different storyline and goes a little more into the occult/paranormal realm. I thought it was awesome and some of the deaths are truly inventive! - DirectorDouglas BuckBuddy GiovinazzoDavid GregoryStarsUdo KierVirginia NewcombAmanda MarquardtA modern horror omnibus inspired by the over-the-top shocks of Paris' early 20th century 'Theatre du Grand Guignol'. Enola Penny sneaks into an abandoned theater and witnesses six bizarre tales.Personally, Horror anthologies are my favourite type of horror movie. The subjects are varied and the short time frame tends to pack a lot of thrills in a short period.
Generally, not everyone is going to like all the stories, but I feel horror fans will appreciate what this movie has to offer. Featuring narration by the legendary Udo Kier as a super creepy puppet-man, this movie has some truly creepy and unique stories. - DirectorEdward AndersonStarsTony CurranPeyton ListCameron GoodmanA late night airport shuttle ride home descends into darkness.Leaning a little more towards the thriller genre, this movie was a one of a kind ride from start to finish. The horror aspect comes from the unknown. Who is the driver? Why is he doing this?
The explanation further serves to increase the viewers horror as to whats happening instead of diminishing it. - DirectorTom ShanklandStarsStellan SkarsgårdMelissa GeorgeAshley WaltersA calculating killer coerces a detective to pay for his previous mistakes. This movie punches you right in the gut. Stand out performances from Selma Blair ( Like you've never seen her. Gone is the cruel intentions innocence ) and Stellan Skarsgård. This movie raises a lot of questions like does one wrong turn deserve another or does 2 wrongs make a right?
Great plot twists and this movie will stick with you long after its finished - DirectorVíctor GarciaStarsAmanda RighettiCerina VincentErik PalladinoSeveral years after Sara and Eddie escaped the former asylum and its inmates, Ariel, Sara's sister, visits the house looking for answers and the truth behind her sister's insane claims about what happened inside it.Another example of the sequel blowing the original away ( A straight to DVD even! ) this movie actually floored me. Picking up where the original one left off pretty much, this one finds another group getting stuck in the hospital.
However, this one offers much better scares than the original as well as a much better backstory to the hospital.
