John Landis' "See You Next Wednesday":
Landis' imaginary movie "See You Next Wednesday" is a running gag in a number his films, among many: Coming to America (1988), Spies Like Us (1985) and Into the Night (1985). Two others also stand out because of the level of detail:
- In Trading Places (1983), a poster of the "See You Next Wednesday" can be seen in Ophelia's (Jamie Lee Curtis) apartment, directed by William Wyler and starring Laurence Olivier, Merle Oberon and David Niven (the cast of Wuthering Heights (1939)).
- In The Blues Brothers (1980), a billboard for "See You Next Wednesday" can be seen behind the "NAZI Pinto" crash off the bridge, top billing Donald Sutherland, possibly an allusion to Sutherland's choice of taking a fixed $50.000 fee for National Lampoon's Animal House (1978) instead of 15% earnings, a decision he must have regretted.
