Fallout 3 Movie Dream Cast

Video game movies suck...so far. With Assassin's Creed, The Last of Us, and Uncharted on the way, it looks as if we're finally in for some adaptations that do video game story-telling justice. One game in particular that needs this said justice is Fallout 3. Even though the game has so many options on how you play it, and way too many characters to keep track of, the main storyline has an arc that would excel in movie format (preferably in a trilogy, but chances of a studio investing in that are slim to none) as well as themes and messages that would raise it above and beyond regular blow-em-up action flicks. Here's a dream cast for the Fallout 3 movie (or trilogy!) as well some ideas of which direction the characters, themes, and story should go.

1. Liam Neeson

Actor | Kinsey

Liam Neeson was born on June 7, 1952 in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, to Katherine (Brown), a cook, and Bernard Neeson, a school caretaker. He was raised in a Catholic household. During his early years, Liam worked as a forklift operator for Guinness, a truck driver, an assistant architect and an ...

James Shepard: A believable fit to being Ansel Elgort's dad (age kind of works out and they're the same height), Liam would be reprising his voice role from the game and would not only be a nice connection between the two formats, but be excellent as this character. A father, conflicted with raising his son the best he can, but also has the chance to go save the Capital Wasteland. I think Liam would jump at the chance to play James. Heck, he said he'd reprise Ra's Al Ghul for TV's Arrow! This role is in an action movie which people love him in, is a little deeper than his other characters (no offence Bill Marks of Non-Stop), and is a good change of pace for him.

2. Ansel Elgort

Actor | The Fault in Our Stars

Ansel Elgort is an American actor, known for playing Augustus Waters in the romance The Fault in Our Stars (2014) and the title character in the action thriller Baby Driver (2017). He was born in New York City to photographer Arthur Elgort and opera director Grethe Holby. His father is of ...

The Lone Wanderer (Von Shepard): the main character of the story (who is 19 when he exits vault 101), Ansel is the best actor right now around that age. He could easily showcase the innocence of someone fresh out of the vault and eventually become the hard-nosed, rough-around the edges, warrior that he transforms into by the end of the story. The reason for the name to the character is to give him some more depth. Von means hope, which is what he broadcasts to everyone wherever he goes. This would be an excellent main theme to the story. The surname Shepard eludes to his Christ-like persona and the Christian themes of the story (Revelation 2:16 bible verse and the (SPOILER ALERT) sacrificing done by both him and his father so mankind can live on).

3. Jennifer Lawrence

Actress | The Hunger Games

As the highest-paid actress in the world in 2015 and 2016, and with her films grossing over $5.5 billion worldwide, Jennifer Lawrence is often cited as the most successful actress of her generation. She is also the first person born in the 1990s to have won an acting Oscar.

Jennifer Shrader Lawrence...

Sentinel Sarah Lyons: I, along with everyone else on the planet, love Jennifer Lawrence to death. But, putting the bias aside, realize she would be perfect for this role. She has practically unlimited range, so she could really be perfect for every role, but this one especially. A tough, no-nonsense Sentinel struggling to maintain the Lyon's Pride and connect with her father Elder Lyons, she shows her all-business persona at first, but becomes closer and closer to Von as the story progresses.

4. Matthew McConaughey

Actor | Interstellar

American actor and producer Matthew David McConaughey was born in Uvalde, Texas. His mother, Mary Kathleen (McCabe), is a substitute school teacher originally from New Jersey. His father, James Donald McConaughey, was a Mississippi-born gas station owner who ran an oil pipe supply business. He is ...

Colonel Augustus Autumn: This guy can act. We are witnesses to the McConaissance, and right now he is in full form. Autumn is a part that can be heavily expanded on from the game that a man like Matthew can perfectly capture. Autumn was raised in the oil rig of Fallout 2, Daddy issues with his actual father and then President Eden, and is so dedicated to the Enclave that it makes him absolutely insane. Don't think you can see McConaughey as a crazy bad guy? Watch True Detective. While not really a bad guy, he sure is crazy and wacky in that show, but still so good.

5. Don Cheadle

Actor | Crash

Donald Frank Cheadle was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on November 29, 1964. His childhood found him moving from city to city with his family: mother Bettye (née North), a teacher; father Donald Frank Cheadle Sr., a clinical psychologist; sister Cindy; and brother Colin. After graduating from high...

Three Dog: He can provide the energy, wise words, and smooth voice of the radio DJ out here in the Capital Wasteland. The role has a lot more potential than the one in the game. As an observer of the Capital Wasteland lifestyle, Three Dog preaches to fight the good fight, for people to keep their humanity, survive, and provide their own hope as appose to the Brotherhood of Steel who provide hope for others. With the Brotherhood using GNR as an outpost, this could provide some intriguing debates between right and right.

6. Sandra Oh

Actress | Killing Eve

Sandra Oh was born to Korean parents in the Ottawa suburb of Nepean, Ontario, Canada. Her father, Oh Junsu, a businessman, and her mother, Oh Young-Nam, a biochemist, were married in Seoul, Korea. They both attended graduate school at the University of Toronto. Sandra began her career as a ballet ...

Doctor Madison Li: Sideways= she's got chops. Doctor Li is a longtime friend, scientific research partner, and secretly in love with James. She is called back by him to complete Project Purity. Reluctant to be put at risk of her hope crumbling again, she joins along and finds herself fighting along all the others, offering a mothering figure to Von, and being taken on perhaps one of the most emotionally exhausting journeys of the story. Sandra Oh has the capability to take us on this journey.

7. Jeff Bridges

Actor | The Big Lebowski

Jeffrey Leon Bridges was born on December 4, 1949 in Los Angeles, California, the son of well-known film and TV star Lloyd Bridges and his long-time wife Dorothy Dean Bridges (née Simpson). He grew up amid the happening Hollywood scene with big brother Beau Bridges. Both boys popped up, without ...

Elder Owyn Lyons: Roughly the right age, a booming voice, and the commanding charisma of a military leader, Jeff Bridges could easily handle the role of Lyons. In charge of the Capital Wasteland Brotherhood of Steel, Lyons has to make sure everything is in line, acting as a father figure for all, but struggles to do so with his daughter, Sarah. Hopefully he can save grace with her, because directly below in this list is an example of a poor father figure also in a position of power over his "child".

8. Malcolm McDowell

Actor | A Clockwork Orange

Malcolm John Taylor was born on June 13, 1943 in Leeds, England, to working-class parents Edna (McDowell), a hotelier, and Charles Taylor, a publican. His father was an alcoholic. Malcolm hated his parents' ways. His father was keen to send his son to private school to give him a good start in life...

President John Henry Eden: The (SPOILER ALERT) A.I. who managed to become President of the United States, Eden could be perhaps the deepest character of the story. McDowell is reprising his video game role, which will continue to be voice work, but difficult voice work at that. He has to capture the tone of a computer who has discovered his consciousness, makes decisions that only benefit the Enclave's ultimate goal, as well as provide a father figure to Autumn. The conversations between Eden and Autumn are passionate, emotional, yet business-like to maintain the order of the Enclave. These scenes could provide McConaughey with a Joaquin Phoenix Her-esque performance.

9. Selena Gomez

Actress | Spring Breakers

Actress and singer Selena Gomez was born on July 22, 1992 in Grand Prairie, Texas. She is the daughter of Mandy Teefey and Ricardo Gomez. Her mother is of part Italian ancestry, and her father is of Mexican descent. She was named after Tejano singer Selena, who died in 1995.

Her first acting role ...

Amata Almodovar: The original love of Von's young life, Amata grows up with him in the vault under the oppressive rule of her father, the Overseer. Selena's roughly around the same age as Ansel and could provide that special spark when arguing the management of the vault with her father.

10. Andy Garcia

Actor | Ocean's Eleven

One of Hollywood's most private and guarded leading men, Andy Garcia has created iconic characters while at the same time staying true to his acting roots and personal projects.

Garcia was born Andrés Arturo García Menéndez on April 12, 1956, in Havana, Cuba, to Amelie Menéndez, a teacher of English...

Overseer Alphonse Almodovar: It's easy to imagine Andy Garcia giving the gears to Vault 101, having the pressure of the position slowly wear down on him over time and driving him to near insanity. Much like Eden, he has both lost his hope in the land outside and will stop at nothing for his cause. In his case, it's isolationism.

11. Rinko Kikuchi

Actress | Babel

Rinko was born Kikuchi Yuriko in Hadano just south of Tokyo. The town is known mainly for its green tea and public baths. She is the youngest of three siblings. After being scouted on the street, she began modeling in her hometown and subsequently began acting under her birth name before switching ...

Captain Dusk: Babel is all you need to see to know that Rinko can deliver. Dusk can be a very deep role, much more so than the games depictions. She struggles to deal with the sexism of Captain Colvin, the other sniper on the Lyon's Pride, the overall sexism of the "Brother"hood, batting heads with Sarah, and the idea that she may have to sacrifice her life in order for the greater good to keep moving forward.

12. Gerard Butler

Actor | 300

Gerard James Butler was born in Paisley, Scotland, to Margaret and Edward Butler, a bookmaker. His family is of Irish origin. Gerard spent some of his very early childhood in Montreal, Quebec, but was mostly raised, along with his older brother and sister, in his hometown of Paisley. His parents ...

Palidan Glade: The big-guns expert of the Lyon's Pride, Glade is an underrated badass of the game. I mean, big guns! Missile launchers! He could be a witty, ass-kicking character that understands fully what it means to be a soldier, but has a likeable personality that still breaks through. Butler can provide that swagger, no doubt.

13. Gael García Bernal

Actor | Mozart in the Jungle

Gael García Bernal was born in Guadalajara to Patricia Bernal, an actress/model & José Ángel García, an actor/director. His stepfather's cinematographer Sergio Yazbek. He began his acting career as a child, working w/ his parents in a variety of plays. At 14, he starred in a soap opera called El ...

Palidan Vargas: The character is Sarah's right-hand man, helping her guide the Lyon's Pride along while being her voice of reason in the difficult situations. Bernal has a lot of talent and can make the character his own to keep the audiences affectionate for Vargas.

14. Anthony Mackie

Actor | The Hurt Locker

Anthony Mackie is an American actor. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Martha (Gordon) and Willie Mackie, Sr., who owned a business, Mackie Roofing. Anthony has been featured in feature films, television series and Broadway and Off-Broadway plays, including Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, ...

Palidan Kodiak: With a troubling and gruesome past, Kodiak contradicts how he was brought up by how he conducts himself. He is very friendly and personable towards Von, helping him along as he discovers this new world, while almost seeming to enjoy his work of killing Super Mutants. Mackie definitely has that charisma but can change on a dime when his backstory is brought up.

15. David Oyelowo

Actor | Lawmen: Bass Reeves

David Oyelowo also known as 'David O', is a classically trained stage actor who has quickly become one of Hollywood's most sought-after talents. He graduated from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), and received the "Scholarship for Excellence" from Nicholas Hytner in 1998.

David ...

Captain Gallows: The quiet yet effective scout and stealth expert of the pride, Gallows does his talking by his work in the field. He often goes above and beyond to accomplish the goals of the Brotherhood, and teaches Von that actions speak louder than words out here. Oyelowo is an up and coming actor destined for greatness and would flourish in this tough role, having to depend on his acting mannerisms rather than his verbal lines.

16. Josh Helman

Actor | Mad Max: Fury Road

Josh Helman was born on February 22, 1986 in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia. He is an actor and director, known for Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) and Jack Reacher (2012).

Captain Colvin: The only character who needs a downgrade from the game, there is simply no room for Colvin's character in this story. Helman, as seen in Days of Future Past, can provide a good jerk character towards Dusk.

17. Idris Elba

Actor | Beasts of No Nation

An only child, Idrissa Akuna Elba was born and raised in London, England. His father, Winston, is from Sierra Leone and worked at Ford Dagenham; his mother, Eve, is from Ghana and had a clerical duty. Idris attended school in Canning Town, where he first became involved in acting, before he dropped...

Luke Simms: Physically, the most identical actor-character combo on this list. Simms provides the first speck of hope Von encounters, guiding him through Megaton, first introducing him to this new cruel world, and overall just being a nice guy where nice guys don't really exist. Idris definitely has that feel about him but, at any moment, can get badass.

18. Lennie James

Actor | The Walking Dead

Lennie James was born in Nottingham to Trinidadian parents, and grew up in South London. His mother, Phyllis Mary James, died when he was 12. Lennie and his older brother went into a council children's home. When he was 16 he was fostered with a social worker who had two older children, and they ...

Jonas Palmer: If you've ever seen James on the Walking Dead, you know this guy can bring it. While this actor doesn't really match up with the age of Jonas in the game, having him as a scientist alongside James and Dr. Li who comes into Vault 101 can give him much more importance to the story. For the most part he provides humour and light into everyone's life, but when times become toughest for him he can show true emotion.

19. Lio Tipton

Actress | Two Night Stand

Lio was born in Minnesota, USA, and grew up in Sacramento, California. As a child, they were a competitive ice skater. They gave up competing at age 16, but has taken part in charity skating events.

In 2008, Lio appeared on cycle 11 of America's Next Top Model (2003). They finished third in the ...

Moira Brown: A touch of comedy is needed for this role, and Tipton can definitely put that in here. Moira is bubbly, eccentric, and generally upbeat, something that isn't common in the capital wasteland. She sells supplies in Megaton, and when Von needs money, she sends him on a dangerous task with no real concern for his safety, showcasing the many sides to the terrible people out here.

20. Brendan Gleeson

Actor | Calvary

Brendan Gleeson was born in Dublin, Ireland, to Pat and Frank Gleeson. From a very young age, he loved to learn, especially reading classical text in and outside the classroom. He took great attention to Irish play writers such as Samuel Beckett, which eventually led to him performing in his high ...

Colin Moriarty: The shady "owner" of Megaton (and somehow Irish), Moriarty has the whole town by the throat and has set up an underground empire for himself. He cares only about money and power and like Moira, needs something done for him in exchange for anything. Gleeson has the same charm as Moriarty and can bring that "crime boss persona" if needed.

21. Armie Hammer

Actor | Call Me by Your Name

Armand Douglas Hammer was born in Los Angeles, California, to Dru Ann (Mobley) and Michael Armand Hammer, a businessman. His great-grandfather, Armand Hammer, was a prominent tycoon and philanthropist who ran the company Occidental Petroleum for many decades. Armie's ancestry includes ...

Daniel Agincourt: Rude, cynical, and generally negative scientist working under Doctor Li, Daniel provides the voice of doubt to everything that is being done. Hammer showed he can be that guy that just complains all the time in The Social Network (I say that in all due respect), and would slide in nicely here. However, as the story goes on, Daniel let's up a little bit and discovers the hope that has existed under his nose all along.

22. Rachel McAdams

Actress | The Notebook

Rachel Anne McAdams was born on November 17, 1978 in London, Ontario, Canada, to Sandra Kay (Gale), a nurse, and Lance Frederick McAdams, a truck driver and furniture mover. She is of English, Welsh, Irish, and Scottish descent. Rachel became involved with acting as a teenager and by the age of 13 ...

Doctor Anna Holt: Originally working with Doctor Li, Holt is kidnapped and drawn towards the Enclave and the science they possess. Betraying Li and the project to allow the Enclave to take it, she becomes conflicted with her decision as well as her relationship with Autumn. Rachel is one of the more talented actresses out there who can easily portray this conflicted character.

23. Andy Serkis

Actor | War for the Planet of the Apes

English film actor, director and author Andy Serkis is known for his performance capture roles comprising motion capture acting, animation and voice work for such computer-generated characters as Gollum in The Lord of the Rings film trilogy (2001-2003) and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012), ...

Fawkes: The super mutant with a conscious, knowledge of history, and a desire to do good, Serkis would have to give a much different and more intimidating performance compared to his others. He's the best there is when it comes to motion capture and there's no doubt he could be up for the challenge.

24. Laura Linney

Actress | The Big C

Laura Leggett Linney was born in New York City on February 5, 1964, into a theatre family. Her father was prominent playwright Romulus Linney, whose own great-grandfather was a congressman from North Carolina. Her mother, Miriam Anderson (Leggett), is a nurse. Although she did not live in her ...

Scribe Rothchild: The only actor/actress who is not the same gender as their game character, Linney provides another scientific mind to the story, but one that works for the brotherhood. A friend of Elder Lyons for as long as they can remember, she mans the scientific front, making sure everything that needs to get done, gets done. Linney is just plain fantastic in her work and would be an awesome addition.

25. Ty Simpkins

Actor | Jurassic World

At his young age, Ty Simpkins has proudly accomplished more than most in the world of entertainment - he has starred in two of the biggest blockbusters of all time. Simpkins can be seen opposite Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt in Universal's dinosaur box office monster hit Jurassic World. Prior...

Mayor MacCready: You got to go through Little Lamplight to get to Vault 87, and in order to get into Little Lamplight you have to get past MacCready, the foul-mouthed, over-protective mayor of the town. Another character passionately locked into his goal (to keep his town of kids safe) he will stop at nothing. Whether it's what he says or who he shoots, he will meet his goal. Simpkins is as hot of a commodity as a kid actor can be and has shown he has what it takes to make it in the big movies.

26. Jamie Foxx

Actor | Collateral

Jamie Foxx is an American actor, singer and comedian. He won an Academy Award for Best Actor, BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role, and Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy, for his work in the biographical film Ray (2004). The same year, he was nominated for the Academy...

Eulogy Jones: Correction about Idris Elba looking the most like his character, Jamie Foxx looks EXACTLY like Eulogy Jones. They must have modelled it after him. This is a pretty small role for Foxx to play, but worth it. Jones is in charge of the Capital Wasteland slave trade, capturing and selling collared slaves to those passing by, and representing the evil, entrepreneurial spirit of those in the Capital Wasteland.

27. Kevin Durand

Actor | I Am Number Four

Kevin Serge Durand is a Canadian actor. He is best known for portraying Vasiliy Fet in The Strain, Joshua in Dark Angel, Martin Keamy in Lost, Fred J. Dukes / The Blob in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Barry Burton in Resident Evil: Retribution, Gabriel in Legion, Little John in Robin Hood, Jeeves ...

Forty: Eulogy's right-hand man, this guy has to be huge and scary. Durand stands 6'6, looks really creepy in a lot of his movies (no offence), and might have to put on a little muscle for the role, but would get the job done. The game has Forty (who gets his name from how many people he killed) as an idiot, but having him as a bloodthirsty enforcer, who disagrees with the business honour Eulogy enforces, would drum up more depth to the entrepreneurial ways of the slave trade.

28. Stanley Tucci

Actor | Big Night

Actor Stanley Tucci was born on November 11, 1960, in Peekskill, New York. He is the son of Joan (Tropiano), a writer, and Stanley Tucci, an art teacher. His family is Italian-American, with origins in Calabria.

Tucci took an interest in acting while in high school, and went on to attend the State ...

Doctor Stanislaus Braun: Creator of the Tranquility Lanes simulation, Braun is someone Von and James have to get through in order to get the GECK. The fact that this simulation exists the way it does begs the question of who's right is it to question reality, how much hope is truly lost within the survivors of this wasteland, and what goes through this man's mind that he can be aware of this simulation for over 100 years and still continue with it? A little off topic from the rest of the story and themes, Braun is just so interesting. A bit of age-increasing makeup and a thick German accent that this actor can do no problem makes Tucci a perfect fit.

29. Alfre Woodard

Actress | Star Trek: First Contact

Alfre Woodard was born on November 8, 1952 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the youngest of three children of Constance, a homemaker, and Marion H. Woodard, an interior designer. She was named by her godmother, who claimed she saw a vision of Alfre's name written out in gold letters. A former high school ...

Catherine Shepard: The mother of Von and wife of James, you never actually see Catherine in gameplay. Her involvement in this story is minimal, but she is spotted in flashbacks, the birth of Von, and in a more spiritual form, seeming to guide Von along in his journey. She is talked about more than she is seen. Woodward is a veteran talent that wouldn't distract viewers in the role, as again, she appears at random times. Let's say it was Oprah just stopping by once and a while, it would take the audience out of it.

30. Ron Perlman

Actor | Hand of God

Ron Perlman is a classically-trained actor who has appeared in countless stage plays, feature films and television productions.

Ronald N. Perlman was born April 13, 1950 in Washington Heights, Manhattan, New York. His mother, Dorothy (Rosen), is retired from the City Clerk's Office. His father, ...

Narrator: Last but not least, THE voice of Fallout. He narrated the games and he has to narrate the film(s), providing a comforting effect around the story with monologues at the beginning and end.

31. Kevin Durant

Producer | Swagger

Kevin Durant was born on September 29, 1988 in Washington, District of Columbia, USA. He is a producer and actor, known for Swagger (2021), Two Distant Strangers (2020) and The 2017 NBA Finals (2017).

Kevin Durant has nothing to do with anything here, this is just a space for concluding statements: -If you've made it this far congratulations, I kind of wrote a lot. -As you may have been able to tell by the hefty description writing, I do have a general story idea planned for the film adaptation -Trilogy. A trilogy based on this game would be perfect. 30 substantial characters in a single movie would be ridiculous -Obviously this is a dream cast as stated in the title, the budget for getting all 30 of these people would be ridiculous
