- 1994–20101h 58mTV-PG8.3 (207)TV EpisodeDirectorKen BurnsLynn NovickStarsKeith DavidHank AaronFelipe AlouThis latest entry covers the period from the early 1990's onward. Labor relations deteriorated badly in the early part of that decade leading to the players strike in August 1994. The Montreal Expos were the best team in baseball at the time but when a Federal judge blocked the owners from unilaterally imposing a contract (which would have let them use replacement players) it quickly came to an end and the players returned to work under the old contract. Attendance dropped after that but the game recovered quickly with the heroics of Cal Ripkin Jr. By the end of 1990's, fans were caught up in the home run derby presented by Sammy Sosa and Mark McGwire. There was also the first whiff of scandal when McGwire was accused of using steroids. It was also an era when new baseball stadiums were built in many cities, evoking an earlier age when the parks were built specifically for the sport. The curse of the Bambino finally came to an end with the Boston Red Sox winning the World Series in 2004. Barry Bonds broke McGwire's three year-old season home-run record and later Hank Aaron's HR record. The issue of drug use eventually led to Congressional hearings after the BALCO scandal and the Mitchell Report, which named many stars as having used performance enhancing drugs. This inning is dedicated to the late, great Buck O'Neil.

- DirectorMatthew AndertonStarsJon HammThey believed. They wanted it. They overcame a 10.5-game deficit in late August and claimed a playoff berth on the final day of the regular season. They then conquered the Philadelphia Phillies and prevailed against the Milwaukee Brewers. Facing off next against the Texas Rangers, the St. Louis Cardinals fell behind 3-2 in the Fall Classic despite the unprecedented performance of Albert Pujols. But back at Busch Stadium, a Game 6 for the ages unfolded as the Redbirds, who were twice down to their last strike, rallied in both the 9th and 10th innings. Then hometown hero David Freese crushed an all-time walk-off home run in the 11th inning to force a Game 7. In the deciding game, ace Chris Carpenter's steely performance and a clutch two-run double from World Series MVP Freese delivered the franchise's 11th World Series Championship.

The Dodgers epitomize the diverse working-class, in contrast with the white uptown Yankees, and come oh-so-close to winning the World Series before it finally happens in 1955. By then, Ebbets Field is crumbling, ticket sales are off, fans have moved to the suburbs, and Robert Moses is blocking Walter O'Malley's plan to build a stadium at the terminus of the Long Island Railroad. When Los Angeles makes O'Malley an offer he can't refuse, an era comes to an end: in 1958 the Dodgers and cross-town-rival Giants go West, leaving the ghosts of Flatbush.
