Favorite TV Shows In No Particular Order
Some are old favorites and others I am catching up on from a period when I wasn't watching much TV. Many more great shows to check out. I'm not a picky TV viewer, hence the large amount of titles. If I'm entertained, I'm good. Some SPOILERS may be in my reviews

- CreatorRod SerlingStarsRod SerlingRobert McCordJay OverholtsOrdinary people find themselves in extraordinarily astounding situations, which they each try to solve in a remarkable manner.A classic. What else can you say? As far as writers for movies/TV, Rod Serling is a hero of mine
- CreatorGene RoddenberryStarsPatrick StewartBrent SpinerJonathan FrakesSet almost 100 years after Captain Kirk's 5-year mission, a new generation of Starfleet officers sets off in the U.S.S. Enterprise-D on its own mission to go where no one has gone before.People forget that there was so much hostility towards this show and the actors when it was first announced. Star Trek without Kirk, Spock, Bones? How dare they!! It turned out pretty brilliant though and if the original show was one of the first "cult" TV shows, then TNG also developed it's own dedicated fan base
- CreatorGene RoddenberryStarsWilliam ShatnerLeonard NimoyDeForest KelleyIn the 23rd Century, Captain James T. Kirk and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise explore the galaxy and defend the United Federation of Planets.Of course, the original is a classic and one can never diminish the cultural impact it had. Some of the episodes might seem dated today, but this was a terrific show
- StarsJohn CleesePrunella ScalesAndrew SachsHotel owner Basil Fawlty's incompetence, short fuse, and arrogance form a combination that ensures accidents and trouble are never far away.I was never a big fan of the Monty Python show, although, I did enjoy some of their films which I suppose is a big odd. I, however, have always held John Cleese in great esteem. Genius. This show which features a man who is completely unsuitable for the job he holds is hilarious. It still holds up and has to be one of the best comedies to ever come out of Britain.
- CreatorJohn HawkesworthStarsJeremy BrettDavid BurkeRosalie WilliamsSherlock Holmes and Dr Watson solve the mysteries of copper beeches, a Greek interpreter, the Norwood builder, a resident patient, the red-headed league, and one final problem. For me, it's the definitive Sherlock Holmes. It was extremely faithful to the works of Arthur Conan Doyle. Jeremy Brett is just perfect and the portrayal of Watson (by 2 actors) is spot on. I love it. FYI, this show would run from 1984-1994 under different titles. My "review" is inclusive of all these that were produced by Granada Television
- CreatorLarry DavidJerry SeinfeldStarsJerry SeinfeldJulia Louis-DreyfusMichael RichardsThe continuing misadventures of neurotic New York City stand-up comedian Jerry Seinfeld and his equally neurotic New York City friends. For some reason, Seinfeld gets some hate from some people, but at it's best, it was definitely water-cooler TV, with so many memorable episodes and catch phrases that people still use to this day. Extremely influential
- CreatorTom FontanaStarsErnie HudsonJ.K. SimmonsLee TergesenA series chronicling the daily activities of an unusual prison facility and its criminal inhabitants. The FIRST 1 hour drama series produced by a major cable network. Absolutely loved this show. So many memorable moments and characters. In many ways an IMPORTANT show in that it lead the way for many great shows that followed on HBO. I still miss Adebesi!! Just a warning, though, the setting is a prison and it can be pretty brutal stuff at times
- CreatorDavid ChaseStarsJames GandolfiniLorraine BraccoEdie FalcoNew Jersey mob boss Tony Soprano deals with personal and professional issues in his home and business life that affect his mental state, leading him to seek professional psychiatric counseling. This show is often heralded as beginning a 2nd golden age for TV. I'd have to agree. You had never really seen a protagonist like Tony Soprano on TV before. You had also never seen this kind of storytelling on TV before. With this show, TV no longer felt like the kid brother to film. The production values, writing and acting were all tops. Hats off to James Gandolfini for creating one of the most iconic TV characters ever
- CreatorPaul FeigStarsLinda CardelliniJohn Francis DaleyJames FrancoA high school mathlete starts hanging out with a group of burnouts while her younger brother navigates his freshman year. One of the ultimate cult shows and always a contender for the top spot of shows that were cancelled too soon. The exec who was responsible for cancelling the show even apologized 15 years later. This show explored HS life for the "freaks" and the "geeks" without resorting to caricatures. It showed how miserable HS can be for everyone. While it's easy to feel sympathy for the characters, none of them are portrayed as saints or perfect. The show, while comedic, could also have a dark undertone and surprisingly could explore issues in a thoughtful way for 1999. The cast is exceptional with Linda Cardellini especially shining as Lindsay. Complex realistic characters. I don't like to prop up a show by crapping on others, but people preferred to watch Dawson's Creek, Felicity and 90210 rather than this wonderful show. 18 episodes is all we got, but its influence can be found in many films and TV shows that followed
- CreatorAaron SorkinStarsMartin SheenRob LoweAllison JanneyInside the lives of staffers in the West Wing of the White House.Currently watching
- CreatorLarry DavidStarsLarry DavidCheryl HinesJeff GarlinLarry David stars as an over-the-top version of himself in this comedy series that shows how seemingly trivial details of day-to-day life can precipitate a catastrophic chain of events.Larry David is of course a genius....unless, he's just not your thing. What is most amazing about the show is that scenes are just written with a brief outline by David. After that, it's almost all ad-libbing by the cast
- CreatorAlan BallStarsPeter KrauseMichael C. HallFrances ConroyA chronicle of the lives of a dysfunctional family who run an independent funeral home in Los Angeles. An extremely well written and acted show that explores many issues. Death is the overall theme, but relationships, infidelity, religion and familial dysfunction are just some of the other things that this show is about. Each episode begins with a death and that death sets the tone for that particular episode. There is a lot of dark humor and surrealism to be found here. Oftentimes, the characters will converse in imaginary conversations with the dead. These "conversations" are really the characters internal dialogues with themselves. The entire concept of what it means to be a funeral director and how dealing with death everyday would affect you is explored through the Fisher family. It's just a brilliant show. The characters can be alternatively lovable and infuriating with some of their actions and decisions. One of the best of the 21st century and it also happens to have one of the greatest show finales of all time
- CreatorDavid SimonStarsDominic WestLance ReddickSonja SohnThe Baltimore drug scene, as seen through the eyes of drug dealers and law enforcement.About 50% of the people that tell you they watched this show when it originally aired are lying. The truth is that not many people (including myself) were. It had the critical support, but it didn't get the stature it has now, as one of the best things ever on TV, until later. This isn't Law & Order. The police work feels real, as does the criminal activity. The plots could be complex and the slang by the criminals and lingo of the cops could be challenging at first, but it was satisfying when you came to understand it. The show explored the war on drugs, race, poverty, the media, the failures of the school system, the death of the middle class, hell, the death of the American dream. It could be a bleak show because there is such a sense of hopelessness, but it's not without humor either. This show could be put into a time capsule, opened up 200 years from now and people would get a sense of what 2000's Baltimore was like. The writing is great and the show is brimming with memorable characters
- CreatorDavid ShoreStarsHugh LaurieOmar EppsRobert Sean LeonardUsing a crack team of doctors and his wits, an antisocial maverick doctor specializing in diagnostic medicine does whatever it takes to solve puzzling cases that come his way. This doesn't work without Hugh Laurie. The rest of the cast is good, particularly Robert Sean Leonard. In fact the friendship between House and Wilson is really the heart of the show. However, it's Laurie's baby. I have to give credit to the writers for creating such a complex character. You do have to suspend your disbelief as some of the antics of House are really preposterous. I do want to say that I'm actually amazed that it DID work because it's, for the most part, the same show every week. Mysterious illness, House berates his team, he comes up with a theory which is usually wrong, throw in some humorous time for House in the clinic and conflict with Cuddy and Wilson and then finish with that "eureka moment" when House comes up with the solution. Same thing. Almost every week. But it worked. I do think the show went on for too long.
- CreatorJames Manos Jr.StarsMichael C. HallJennifer CarpenterDavid ZayasHe's smart. He's lovable. He's Dexter Morgan, America's favorite serial killer, who spends his days solving crimes and nights committing them. The first 4 seasons were amazing. What a show to allow the audience to feel empathy for a serial killer. Then the decline began with most people feeling extremely hostile towards the finale
- CreatorVince GilliganStarsBryan CranstonAaron PaulAnna GunnA chemistry teacher diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer turns to manufacturing and selling methamphetamine with a former student in order to secure his family's future.A true classic with it's protagonist/antagonist and such great chemistry between Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul. In the States, you'll often see this credited as being one of the best television shows of all time and who am I to argue?
- CreatorJulian FellowesStarsHugh BonnevillePhyllis LoganElizabeth McGovernA chronicle of the lives of the British aristocratic Crawley family and their servants in the early twentieth century.English period pieces can be hit or miss with me. This is a soap opera. No sense in denying it. As such, it has all the overly melodramatic stuff you find in the genre. However, it happens to be a well done soap opera. Through no fault of it's own, it suffered from actors deciding to leave the show. The result is that there are a few characters that you become emotionally invested in, only to have them disappear and leave you feeling.."well, what was the point of all that?" Some of it can be a bit silly and not every season was a winner, but, the acting was always top notch. It had to be because the dialogue could sometimes be cringe worthy, but, hey, it's good fun. I never had the opportunity to watch Upstairs Downstairs, so this was intriguing from the get go for me. Ultimately, it's pretty irresistible entertainment and I loved it. It actually was probably more popular in the States than the UK
- CreatorDavid BenioffD.B. WeissStarsEmilia ClarkePeter DinklageKit HaringtonNine noble families fight for control over the lands of Westeros, while an ancient enemy returns after being dormant for millennia.Yes, there was a steep decline beginning with S7 and the ending was horrible, but there was sooooo much more good than bad in it's run. It's time to let the bitterness over the ending go. A truly fully realized world with compelling interesting characters. It's a pretty terrific cast, with Dinklage, Headey and Williams among the best imo
- CreatorNic PizzolattoIssa LópezStarsVince VaughnColin FarrellRachel McAdamsAnthology series in which police investigations unearth the personal and professional secrets of those involved, both within and outside the law.Well, it's become apparent that we are never going to get a season that comes close to the marvelous S1. I did enjoy S3 more than most and I didn't completely hate S2 and 4, but, yeah...
- CreatorNoah HawleyStarsBilly Bob ThorntonMartin FreemanAllison TolmanVarious chronicles of deception, intrigue, and murder in and around frozen Minnesota. All of these tales mysteriously lead back one way or another to Fargo, North Dakota. The first 2 seasons were brilliant. There has been a slight dip in quality, but still a terrific show. Each season tells it's own unique story, but if you pay attention, you will find many links and callbacks to previous seasons. If you enjoyed the movie, the likelihood is that you will like the show too as it contains much of the same dark humor, cynicism, plot twists and a touch of the absurd
- CreatorPhoebe Waller-BridgeStarsPhoebe Waller-BridgeSian CliffordOlivia ColmanSeries adapted from the award-winning play about a young woman trying to cope with life in London whilst coming to terms with a recent tragedy.Fleabag is a wonderful show which manages to balance the line between lol hilarity and the deeply tragic. It's very well written and acted. Phoebe Waller-Bridge is just incredibly charismatic.
- CreatorAmy Sherman-PalladinoStarsRachel BrosnahanAlex BorsteinMichael ZegenAfter her husband leaves her, young mother of two Miriam "Midge" Maisel discovers that she has a talent for stand-up comedy. Could this be her calling?Very New York, very Jewish and very funny. Well written show with the perfect, lovable, charismatic cast, although, special accolades to Brosnahan, Borstein and Shalhoub
- CreatorJesse ArmstrongStarsNicholas BraunBrian CoxKieran CulkinThe Roy family is known for controlling the biggest media and entertainment company in the world. However, their world changes when their father steps down from the company. The premise of an absurdly rich and dysfunctional family didn't thrill me, but I like Brian Cox and gave it a shot. It's a divisive show. Some people think it's boring and too "talky". Other people feel it doesn't get any good until S2, but I loved it right off the bat. The writing, ensemble cast and even the musical score are excellent. The characters are generally unlikeable (but that's why we love them) and it's nastily witty. There is some legalese and corporate talk that might go over your head, but nothing that will leave you confused. It can be an uncomfortable viewing experience to watch this family tear each other to shreds and reveals the importance of a nurturing childhood that has love, affection and attention. The Roy children were given EVERYTHING except those essential things and that is why they are so empty. Obviously, of course, it is also a critique of capitalism. So, the series finale has aired and while I think most of what transpired was not surprising and was inevitable, the show still succeeded in sticking the landing. A terrific show
- CreatorJohn LinsonTaylor SheridanStarsKevin CostnerLuke GrimesKelly ReillyA ranching family in Montana faces off against others encroaching on their land.I don't think I've ever appreciated Costner as much as I have since he began Yellowstone. He is the anchor for this show and is the solid patriarch that this show needs. It's kind of like The Godfather, except it's a rancher and is set in Montana. You add in some soap opera elements straight out of Downton Abbey and you've got a very entertaining show. A modern take on the American cowboy with a talented cast and beautiful Montana (actually Utah) backdrops
- CreatorJon FavreauStarsPedro PascalChris BartlettKatee SackhoffThe travels of a lone bounty hunter in the outer reaches of the galaxy, far from the authority of the New Republic. If it's done right, it's always fun to spend some time in the Star Wars universe. However, is the show really good, or is it just decent, but I rate it higher because of so much garbage Star Wars product that I've seen? Well, better not to overthink it. I've yet to watch S3
- CreatorEric KripkeStarsKarl UrbanJack QuaidAntony StarrA group of vigilantes set out to take down corrupt superheroes who abuse their superpowers.I'm pretty much willing to give anything in the superhero genre a chance and after this became highly recommended to me by a few friends, I knew I had to give a watch. I'm glad I did! I don't enjoy it as much as some of my friends, but there is no doubt that it's crazy violent fun and can also tackle some difficult issues. Superhero satire has been done before and perhaps better, but The Boys still gets a thumbs up from me
- CreatorNeil DruckmannCraig MazinStarsPedro PascalBella RamseyAnna TorvAfter a global pandemic destroys civilization, a hardened survivor takes charge of a 14-year-old girl who may be humanity's last hope.Well, considering that playing the video game felt like you were watching a film/TV show, it's not surprising that they were able to adapt the game so successfully. There was a bit of doubt about the casting initially, but Pedro and Bella were definitely worthy of Joel and Ellie and did an amazing job. The changes that were made from game to TV show were smart and made sense. A terrific show which actually shines most during the quiet scenes and not the action parts
- CreatorRobert KirkmanRyan OttleyCory WalkerStarsSteven YeunJ.K. SimmonsSandra OhAn adult animated series based on the Skybound/Image comic about a teenager whose father is the most powerful superhero on the planet. This was recommended to me and since I'm always up for a different take on the superhero genre I gave it a shot. Good stuff! I probably don't like it as much as some of my friends, but it's well done. The voice acting is perfect, which shouldn't be a surprise considering the actors involved. It's a smart show that has managed to surprise me a few times with it's interesting plot twists
- CreatorSydney NewmanStarsJodie WhittakerPeter CapaldiPearl MackieThe further adventures in time and space of the alien adventurer known as the Doctor and his companions from planet Earth. One of the greatest science fiction shows ever
- CreatorDonald WilsonSydney NewmanStarsWilliam HartnellPatrick TroughtonJon PertweeThe adventures in time and space of the Doctor, a Time Lord who changes appearance and personality by regenerating when near death, and is joined by companions in battles against aliens and other megalomaniacs. And the original series was pretty terrific too. Tom Baker will always be "my" Doctor
- CreatorRowan AtkinsonRichard CurtisStarsRowan AtkinsonMatilda ZieglerRobin DriscollBumbling, childlike Mr. Bean has trouble completing the simplest of day-to-day tasks, but his perseverance and resourcefulness frequently allow him to find ingenious ways around problems. What can you say? Atkinson is an amazing comic actor. Almost anywhere you go in the world, people know Mr. Bean
- CreatorDavid MilchStarsTimothy OlyphantIan McShaneMolly ParkerA show set in the late 1800s, revolving around the characters of Deadwood, South Dakota; a town of deep corruption and crime. You'll always see this show on lists of "shows that were cancelled too soon". This was just one terrific show with a great ensemble cast led by a great Ian McShane. The writing required you to pay attention. It was unique, but it was so rewarding to hear such excellent dialogue. It was a joy to visit Deadwood every week, even if in reality, you sure as hell wouldn't want to live there. A great Western that does not shy away from the profane and is not afraid to be politically incorrect. This is probably as close to how the old west REALLY was as you're going to see. The show did indeed deserve more seasons and fans were left with several plots unsettled, but we did get a movie which, more or less, ended things in a satisfying way
- CreatorTerence WinterStarsSteve BuscemiKelly MacdonaldMichael ShannonAn Atlantic City politician plays both sides of the law by conspiring with gangsters during the Prohibition era.A quality TV show with a great ensemble cast. It's very character driven. I loved seeing the period details of early Atlantic City. The storytelling was always top notch. Despite all that, I never felt completely engrossed by the show. After finishing an episode, I never had that feeling that I just could not wait until the next episode. I love Buscemi, but sometimes felt he was miscast. Nevertheless, this was a well done show and I'm happy I watched it
- CreatorDrew GoddardStarsCharlie CoxVincent D'OnofrioDeborah Ann WollA blind lawyer by day, vigilante by night. Matt Murdock fights the crime of New York as Daredevil.Love it. If there was one superhero Netflix show that should have kept on going it would be this one. Charlie Cox, Vincent D'Onofrio and Jon Bernthal were always fun to watch
- CreatorRyan J. CondalGeorge R.R. MartinStarsMatt SmithEmma D'ArcyOlivia CookeAn internal succession war within House Targaryen at the height of its power, 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen.Well, after the way GOT ended, it's not surprising that people took a wait and see approach to this show. All in all, I think it's a success. Does it approach the highs of prime GOT? No. Also, it suffers from many of the same problems that plagued GOT. For one, supposedly smart people making very dumb decisions. Still, I was fully invested from the get go. Some episodes were better than others, but you'll find that with any show. The time jumps and characters with the same, or similar names, not to mention ancestors that shared the same name can lead to some confusion if you're not paying attention. For a season that was basically a set up for what's coming in the future, I think it was well done
- StarsLucille BallDesi ArnazVivian VanceThe wife of a band leader constantly tries to become a star - in spite of her having no talent, and gets herself (along with her best friend) into the funniest predicaments. What is there to say? Classic
- CreatorPatrick McGoohanStarsPatrick McGoohanAngelo MuscatPeter SwanwickAfter he resigns, a secret agent is abducted and taken to what looks like an idyllic village, but is actually a bizarre prison. He refuses to give his warders information while attempting to escape. This show was waaaay ahead of it's time. Just think of any present day TV show that is not conventional, confuses you and creates so many "WTF" moments? Are you thinking of one? Whatever your answer, it in some way owes a debt to this show. It's just surreal. The finale upset people in much the same way that a few contemporary shows have. People wanted answers and the show refused to give in. It wanted to leave you with more questions. It was never explicitly said, but it implied that the character in this show was the same man in the previous show Secret Agent (Danger Man in the UK)
- CreatorDennis KleinGarry ShandlingStarsGarry ShandlingJeffrey TamborWallace LanghamA comedic behind the scenes look at a late night talk show.An extremely influential show that has somewhat become forgotten. It premiered at the perfect time, when the undisputed king of late night TV Johnny Carson had just retired and the "late night wars" would begin. Larry Sanders was a talk show host who hated people, not excluding himself. This sitcom was shot on videotape and film to distinguish the "talk show" from the behind the scenes stuff that was filmed documentary style. No annoying laugh tracks here. The walk and talk filming was something completely new to TV. Gary Shandling, Rip Torn and particularly Jeffrey Tambor were terrific. It was biting cynical humor that spared no one. It was amazing how many celebrities would appear as slightly parodied versions of themselves, often in the most unflattering ways. It still retains cult status, but it should be remembered for more than that. This is one of the most innovative shows of all time. If you watch it and shrug, it's only because so many shows that followed borrowed so heavily from it.
- CreatorJ.J. AbramsAlex KurtzmanRoberto OrciStarsAnna TorvJoshua JacksonJohn NobleAn F.B.I. agent is forced to work with an institutionalized scientist and his son in order to rationalize a brewing storm of unexplained phenomena.I just loved this show and cast. A show that I truly miss even all these years since it's ending. When it began, it was labeled an X-Files wannabe. I'll take Fringe over the X-Files any day, thank you very much. Despite low ratings, the execs gave the show a final season which I am grateful for. Superb acting by Torv, Noble and Jackson
- CreatorDan HarmonStarsJoel McHaleDanny PudiDonald GloverA suspended lawyer is forced to enroll in a community college with an eccentric staff and student body.A great cast playing totally eccentric outcast characters that you grow to love. Weird as they are, you would want to be friends with this gang. The pop culture references come at you fast and furious. A sitcom that could produce meaningful character driven moments as these misfits find a way to belong. Seasons 1-3 are GOLD. After that, the show lost a bit of it's consistency, but definitely still worth watching.
- CreatorBryan FullerStarsHugh DancyMads MikkelsenCaroline DhavernasExplores the early relationship between renowned psychiatrist Hannibal Lecter and a young FBI criminal profiler who is haunted by his ability to empathize with serial killers.Extremely well done. The writing, acting and visual style are all tops. I love the little nuances that remind the viewers of the films that came before. It's actually hard to believe this aired on network TV. It did not grab me at first, but then I became hooked. Mikkelson almost achieves the impossible in coming close to making you forget Hopkins. It was a shame to see it cancelled
- CreatorJohn AltschulerMike JudgeDave KrinskyStarsThomas MiddleditchT.J. MillerJosh BrenerFollows the struggle of Richard Hendricks, a Silicon Valley engineer trying to build his own company called Pied Piper.A good natured, feel good comedy which is well written and has very likable (misfit) characters. It's consistently very funny and often hilarious, although, I do prefer the early seasons. Also, it's a sad shame that the actor who portrayed one of the best characters from S1 passed away. Still, this is a new comfort show!
- CreatorEric Ellis OvermyerStarsTitus WelliverJamie HectorAmy AquinoAn L.A.P.D. homicide detective works to solve the murder of a 13-year-old boy while standing trial in federal court for the murder of a serial killer.Well, it didn't reinvent the wheel, but I enjoyed this police procedural even if the quality could be inconsistent. It didn't get the accolades, but it was always well done all around.
- CreatorDaniel AbrahamMark FergusTy FranckStarsSteven StraitDominique TipperWes ChathamThe disappearance of rich-girl-turned-political-activist links the lives of Ceres detective, accidental ship captain and U.N. politician. Amidst political tension between Earth, Mars and the Belt, they unravel the greatest conspiracy.Intelligent hard (at least by my standards) science fiction. The plot, at it's most basic, has been told before. Humans have colonized the solar system and friction develops between the colonizers and "mother Earth". However, it becomes much more complex. The very first episode briefly explains things and then you are on your own. This show demands 100% of your attention or you will get completely lost. The visuals are some of the best you have seen on TV. The world building seems real. It's definitely the future, but it's one that seems possible and realistic. It can be a bit dour. There are not many laughs to be found here, but TV science fiction doesn't get much better than this.
- CreatorLisa JoyJonathan NolanStarsEvan Rachel WoodJeffrey WrightEd HarrisAt the intersection of the near future and the reimagined past, waits a world in which every human appetite can be indulged without consequence. What a shame. This show had so much promise, with the first season being so good that it looked like we were in for a treat of what could be one of the best science fiction shows of all time. I enjoyed the 2nd season too, but with the third it's almost as if the showrunners got too ambitious. They deviated too much from the original plot and things became a bit incomprehensible. To be honest, I wasn't interested in watching something that required so much work just to remember how everything connected. The 4th season was probably better than the 3rd, but I think everyone had just lost patience by then
- CreatorGeneva Robertson-DworetGraham WagnerStarsElla PurnellAaron MotenWalton GogginsIn a future, post-apocalyptic Los Angeles brought about by nuclear decimation, citizens must live in underground bunkers to protect themselves from radiation, mutants and bandits.Hey, it's fun. It's definitely faithful to the games, but newcomers will have a good time too. It's easy to quickly care about the central 3 characters and the performances are good. Bring on another season
- CreatorSteve LightfootStarsJon BernthalAmber Rose RevahBen BarnesAfter his revenge on those who murdered his family, aimless Marine veteran Frank Castle finds a new meaning in life as a vigilante known as "The Punisher".I've got some major issues with this show, but in the end I decided to include it. The first season is much superior to the 2nd. You either love or hate Jon Bernthal's acting

With virtually no crimes to solve, most of Andy's time is spent philosophizing and calming down his cousin Deputy Barney Fife.Just a terrific show. Barney Fife is one of the great TV characters of all time and the show did go into a decline after the great Don Knotts left. 30 minutes in Mayberry is a joy. It's pure feel-good TV
- CreatorNorman LearStarsCarroll O'ConnorJean StapletonRob ReinerA working class man constantly squabbles with his family over the important issues of the day.Based off a show from the UK. This show took on topics that were taboo here in the States at the time. Archie Bunker is one of the classic TV characters of all time. This was groundbreaking TV
- CreatorCarol BlackNeal MarlensStarsFred SavageDan LauriaAlley MillsKevin Arnold recalls growing up during the late 60s and early 70s; the turbulent social times make the transition from child to adult unusually interesting.Just a wonderful show about a boy, his friends, his family, his crush and how he navigates the difficulties of growing up. It may sound corny, or that it's been done a million times before and after, but it hasn't always been done this well. The adult "Kevin" narrates
- CreatorBill LawrenceStarsZach BraffDonald FaisonSarah ChalkeIn the unreal world of Sacred Heart Hospital, intern John "J.D." Dorian learns the ways of medicine, friendship and life.Very funny show, with the humor ranging from slapstick to the surreal. JD's fantasy sequences are a trip. I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it as much if not for the fact that it's not all laughs. The show deals with the pressure and stress of hospital life, including the day to day death that occurs and how the characters deal with that. Other very sad and poignant issues are taken on also. John C. McGinley was fantastic as Dr. Cox and really deserved more recognition. His diatribes were a hoot. How the show manages to switch on a dime from lol to tearjerking is impressive. The cast is all around really good and the writing is always solid. Hell, even the music is terrific
- CreatorNeil CrossStarsIdris ElbaDermot CrowleyMichael SmileyJohn Luther is a brilliant homicide detective with a knack for getting inside the minds of murderers. Unfortunately, his unconventional methods and personal demons put him at odds with his team.Lots of overdone TV detective tropes are to be found here and yet it's really well done so you don't care so much. DCI Luther is a terrific character. A genius detective that is obsessive, relentless, troubled and while in pursuit of criminals, just barely doesn't cross that line. Ok, well, sometimes he does cross the line, but what would be the fun if he didn't? Admittedly, some of the plots require you to suspend your disbelief, but that's ok. It's pretty gritty stuff anchored by an impressive performance by Idris Elba. Ruth Wilson is terrific too as Ruth. 5 seasons/20 episodes. It's worth your time and a film has come out which hopefully will tie up some of the loose ends from when the series ended
- CreatorChris ChibnallStarsDavid TennantOlivia ColmanJodie WhittakerThe murder of a young boy in a small coastal town brings a media frenzy, which threatens to tear the community apart.A terrific show with amazing acting by both it's leads. It's also always well written. Quite a few shows have "borrowed" the Broadchurch template. An American version called Gracepoint was made and it was not nearly as good, however, I do prefer its ending
- CreatorJoseph WeisbergStarsKeri RussellMatthew RhysKeidrich SellatiAt the height of the Cold War, two Russian agents pose as the average American couple, complete with family.A really well done spy thriller which also happens to be about something more mundane, but equally important - marriage. The obstacles, jealousy, ups and downs and difficulties of making it all work. Very well written, fully realized characters and well done acting all around. The 80's period touches are fun. I love the games played by the Americans and Russians against each other and both sides are shown to be equally smart, devious and ruthless. The show does not spare either country as the hypocrisies of both are revealed. It got some accolades, but I still feel it was an overlooked quality show. As far as spy shows, I consider it better done than the more watched Homeland.
- CreatorBrian KoppelmanDavid LevienAndrew Ross SorkinStarsPaul GiamattiDamian LewisMaggie SiffNew money means no mercy as Mike Prince takes the Axe Capital throne. Chuck Rhoades is convinced no one should have that much wealth - or power. As all the players seek out new alliances, only one thing's for certain - wealth means war.The first four seasons were brilliant. However, things began to then become a bit stale. The show remained entertaining, though. I stayed to the end and am glad I did as they pretty much stuck the landing and ended with a finale that was surprisingly sentimental
- CreatorJonathan TropperStarsAndrew KojiOlivia ChengJason TobinDuring the Tong Wars in the late 1800s, Ah Sahm, a martial arts prodigy from China, immigrates to San Francisco and becomes a hatchet man for the most powerful tong in Chinatown. Some of the dialogue and acting are a little dicey, but this show was just so much tremendous fun that it was easy to overlook its faults. Sad that it was cancelled
- CreatorChips HardyTom HardySteven KnightStarsTom HardyDavid HaymanJonathan PryceAdventurer James Keziah Delaney returns to London during the War of 1812 to rebuild his late father's shipping empire. However, both the government and his biggest competitor want his inheritance at any cost--even murder. What an odd amazing show. I love it despite the fact that the protagonist can occasionally be unintelligible due to his mumbling. haha. Even so, Tom Hardy is just mesmerizing. When he's on the screen, he demands your attention. Some of the dialogue could be better and it definitely takes it's time getting where it wants to go, but your patience will be rewarded. Latest reports say that the 2nd season may not appear until 2024 which is pretty ridiculous and I just may lose interest by then

Unless you've really got a bug up your butt against anything superhero related, I defy you to not have a good time watching this. The scripts by Gunn are snappy and often hilarious and John Cena just shocked the hell out of me with his ability to not only handle the comedy, but the dramatic scenes as well. The rest of the cast is great too. I love shows that have a completely different take on the superhero genre
- CreatorDan CurtisStarsJonathan FridGrayson HallAlexandra IslesThe rich Collins family of Collinsport, Maine is tormented by strange occurrences.A wonderfully silly campy show that was actually a daytime soap opera. Kids would rush home from school to watch it. The acting can be questionable and the sets were cheaply made, but there is something about it that keeps you watching, especially when it hits it's stride with the appearance of Barnabas Collins
- CreatorLorne MichaelsStarsThe Saturday Night Live BandDon PardoDarrell HammondA famous guest host stars in parodies and sketches created by the cast of this witty show. It's pretty difficult to evaluate a show that has an ever changing cast and writers and that has been on TV for almost 50 years. The first few years are classic and probably features the best all around cast. However, in later years, Norm MacDonald, Eddie Murphy, Bill Hader, Will Ferrell and Kenan Thompson, just to name a few, all did good work on the show. There have been severe droughts where it seemed like the thing should just end, but somehow it always manages to right itself. I also admit that there have been extremely long periods where I was just not watching. But, it would just seem wrong to leave it off my list. The best skits are classic, the worst are cringe worthy. You've got to expect that from a show about a half century long.

Not every joke hit, but the ones that did could definitely provide huge belly laughs. During it's time on the air, it had it's share of complaints about the raunchy nature of the humor and there were even efforts to boycott the show and/or get it cancelled. The result? More people watched. Many shows of today can get away with things because Married With Children took the heat back in the day and opened the door as to what was acceptable on network television. Personally, I prefer the early seasons

There was a clear direction and no filler. Then showrunner Darabont was fired and with S2 the first cracks began to show. Nevertheless, S1-5 were pretty amazing. More cracks began to show on S6. With the appearance of Negan (although I love Jeffrey Dean Morgan) the show definitely began to go over the cliff. The war with Negan went on for too long, many characters that we loved left. They were replaced by characters that we never got to really know, or care about. Still though, at its peak this was a great TV show

You either love or hate Claire Danes' acting.

It does share something with Dreyfus' previous show Seinfeld in that these characters are not very nice people. The jokes are generally lol hilarious and come at you fast and furious. It's often extremely funny. The cast is also AMAZING. Yet, it's sort of a one note show. Every episode is almost the same. A crisis develops due to the Veep, or her incompetent staff. Various maneuvers are considered to navigate out of the mess, but oftentimes make matters worse. The characters bicker, backstab and insult one another. Every episode. Same thing. But, it could make me belly laugh and that's rare. Surprisingly, the series finale had some poignant moments, and it did stick the landing.

She's simply fantastic. It must have been such a difficult 5 years to shoot for her. Good cast all around, but I also particularly liked Jordan Gavaris. I binged this after it had finished and as I watched the first season, while I thought it was amazing, I could not imagine how they could keep it going over the course of 5 seasons. They did! They just kept throwing new things into the mix to keep the viewer on their toes. Never boring. A good time thriller with some violence and aces comedic moments as a bonus

Liev Schreiber has never been this good and Jon Voight is always terrific. So, fans were pretty upset when the series ended abruptly after S7 and much to everyone's surprise, Showtime agreed to a movie to tie up the loose ends and give the fans some closure. It was pretty well done and I'm satisfied, but I wish we could have spent some more time with Terry and Bunchy, but, hey, beggars can't be choosers

Sure, it can be silly, but it's never not scary fun. C'mon, all your favorites from early gothic fiction. What's not to like? It always looks good and the acting is great all around. In fact, it's a disgrace that Eva Green never got a major award. The end was a shocker for fans as there was no indication that we were watching the series finale, until the very last moments. Many fans were so dissatisfied with the show's finale that it ruined the entire show for them. I was bitter originally too, but on a recent re-watch, it kind of makes sense now

It's not religious themed, but religion (or spirituality) is certainly not absent either. The tone can be dour, but it became a bit less grim after S1 with many moments that are quite odd and darkly humorous. Some of what happens will just have you shaking your head in bafflement because it's just so bat-shit crazy. Most of the characters are just so idiosyncratic. This show does not flinch in the face of grief or madness and actually embraces both. It is slow paced and methodical about how it gets to where it wants to, but I was never bored. I think each season improved on the previous and it just got better and better. The writing, directing, acting and even the musical score are so well done. Carrie Coon is spectacular. A thought provoking show that never felt pretentious. It is inscrutable (you won't get the answers you're looking for), but I was ok with that. I wish more people had watched and that it could have lasted longer

The best season was the first. It's not downhill from there, but the other 2 seasons are not as good. I'm a sucker for Giovanni Ribisi and the rest of the cast was good too. Unfortunately, the series ended with a lot of unanswered questions. One interesting thing is that the entire show takes place over about about a 3 week period

The dark comedy elements were more apparent in the early seasons, but then things got very dark and Barry didn't feel like Barry. That's not a bad thing. I kind of like a show that does it's own thing and is bold enough to NOT do what the audience wants. The series finale was good, but not great. I did appreciate that there was no giant action movie shootout ending and Barry's fate was abrupt but fitting. The fact that the show ended with a character that we never got to know or care about was somewhat disappointing

It sorta predisposed me to like it and overlook it's flaws. Regardless, David Tennant and Michael Sheen are both terrific and it's their chemistry which keeps things together. Well, S2 is full of silliness, fun and love. It's a bit lightweight, however. It almost feels like not much really happens and yet Tennant and Sheen are able to rise above a lackadaisical plot. It's action TV that is extremely brutal and violent. The characters and their motivations are interesting, but I found the way they were written from episode to episode to be inconsistent. Still, it's wildly fun even if some of it is preposterous and some of the major plot points can be seen a mile away. Well, more of the same in S2. They upped the violence, but failed to create an intelligible storyline. The plot contrivances and dialogue that would embarrass Guy Ritchie don't help. But it's still fun and that counts for something

I realize that some people really despise it. For me, it's yet another show that could be a complete mess at times and really good at others. It should be said, that the creators were really hampered by the fact that Disney/Marvel never really embraced the show. They could almost never reference events that were occurring in the rest of the MCU and were always having to make last minute changes to scripts because the bigwigs were ordering them to make cuts because they felt they interfered with what was going on in the films. By the final seasons Marvel was barely acknowledging it. Some people don't even consider this show to be MCU canon. Anyway, the characters will remain quite memorable for me and I LOVED a few seasons, but I do get the issues that people had with the program.

It was when a new season should have begun, but didn't because the series was over, that I realized how much I missed it. No story of the Batman mythos is going to please everyone. This show concentrated on the pre-Batman Gotham. In many ways, the villains (and a young Jim Gordon) were the stars. There is no doubt that the episodes could sway from practically unwatchable to (no pun intended) Bat-Shit crazy fun, but I feel that the good things outweighed the bad

The show was constantly changing showrunners and you know what they say about too many cooks stirring the pot. So, instead of one cohesive vision for the show, it would change. Good show. I think the lack of superheroes, the fact that it takes place in a different era and that it didn't delve into the origins of SHIELD immediately were a problem for some. I thought the interactions between Peggy/Jarvis were well done and sometimes extremely comedic, but maybe fans wanted a more serious take. It was fun to see more of the young Howard Stark too. It would be interesting to watch it back to back with Westworld as they cover a lot of the same territory. It would not have worked as well as it did if not for Gemma Chan who immediately allows the viewer to empathize with the plight of the "synths", although some cynics would say that was due to her acting ability to be somewhat synth-like. It stayed pretty consistent (actually more than Westworld) season to season and always remained watchable. It had a satisfactory ending even if it did leave a few threads hanging

It's an anthology series and only the detective continues from season to season. It's more of a "why-done-it" then a "who-done-it". Although, they seem to be going in a different direction in S4. It's a pretty good genre mashup. Think Lost/Twin Peaks. The cast from both time periods is solid. I'm all for a slow burn and a mystery that slowly divulges it's clues just as long as it's not ridiculously prolonged. You know bad things (particularly in the '96 time period) are coming, but they are still suspenseful. It's not for everyone, but I enjoyed the first season. Well, not surprisingly, the 2nd season could not live up to the first. Too many plots were quickly tied up neatly with a bow, too many coincidences that can only occur in TV and a few instances of things that just didn't make sense, but it wasn't bad by any means and I will be watching S3, although, I need some answers. Let's not do Lost again
