- DirectorMaya DerenAlexander HammidStarsMaya DerenAlexander HammidA woman returning home falls asleep and has vivid dreams that may or may not be happening in reality. Through repetitive images and complete mismatching of the objective view of time and space, her dark inner desires play out on-screen.
- DirectorLeandro ListortiBased on the remains of never-completed Argentine features from the archives of the film museum in Buenos Aires. The film is, as it were, a parallel film history: an essay like a cinematographic Frankenstein, that blows new life into images that once seemed unsuccessful and pointless.
- DirectorJean-Luc GodardStarsHéloïse GodetKamel AbdelliRichard ChevallierA silent, surreal parallel between a couple and a dog.
- DirectorPeter TscherkasskyA woman goes to bed, falls asleep, and begins to dream. This dream takes her to a landscape of light and shadow, evoked in a form only possible through classic cinematography.
- DirectorLei LeiThe woman speaks only in voiceover and is never seen. Her account is one of hardship, of a mother who died young, of a father sent to a farm for reform during the Cultural Revolution, of all the things the family lacked.
- DirectorLei LeiThomas SauvinStarsLei LeiThe following images were sourced over the years from a recycling zone in the outskirts of Beijing. This archive of more than half a million 35mm color film negatives is a photographic portrait of the capital and the life of her inhabitants over the last thirty years. Here, we selected 3000 photos to create the animation you are about to see.
- DirectorGeneviève HamonJean PainlevéAn octopus slithers into a narrow crack near the shore; we see its eye up close; blowing water propels it through water. It feeds on a crab. In spring it's time to mate. A male grabs a female; he inserts his third arm in her respiratory cavity. We watch another pair: a larger female is the aggressor here. Mating is repeated over hours and days. With high magnification, we see many sperm; she releases strings of fertilized eggs that hang from the roof of a nest. She guards it for a month, fanning the strings to circulate water for oxygen and cleanliness. We watch the eggs up close develop at 1,400 times nature's rate. Then they're born and propel away.
- DirectorSara CwynarSara Cwynar uses her computer and many studio arrangements to give sense and life to her visual file and the real world. Images of food, art, politicians, models and others compete for our attention in this tour of visual consumerism.
