- DirectorSam IrvinStarsCassandra PetersonRichard O'BrienMary ScheerSpooky high jinks abound when Elvira finds herself spending the night in a mysterious castle en route to 1851 Paris. It's always lovely to see Elvira, even if the movie she's in is unnecessarily mean and quite unfunny. Watch Mistress of the Dark instead.
- DirectorTimothy WhitfieldStarsSpring HillSandra GoffSarah Elizabeth VernonI mean, it's awful, but "micro-budget SOV awful" is ten times more watchable than any studio slog.
- DirectorMax MartiniStarsChris MargetisMike CareyDavid B. MeadowsAfter being relegated, the two fighting brothers signed up for a new game. But they didn't know that they need to stay in an arena to fight zombies.Only (sorta) lives up to its potential in the last 30 minutes. I'd say it's worth the watch for that, but the first hour's just tedious enough to not be worth the recommendation. Ehh, you know what? It's fine. I'd be up for a sequel. Even if there's waaay too much of, uhm, whachamacallit, "old dude humour", for my taste.
- DirectorJeff BurrStarsElizabeth BarondesJohn MeseStephen RootA group of drunk teenagers accidently set free the spirit of a warlock, which possesses a scarecrow. The scarecrow goes on a bloody rampage killing the descendents of the men who had killed the warlock a century before. A newcomer and the daughter of the mayor try to stop it before it is too late and the warlock can reincarnate...Pretty decent scarecrow flick, that'll quench your thirst for inventive kills, gore and most importantly the '90s. Ideal for a lazy afternoon, but I'd recommend Dark Night of the Scarecrow instead.
- CreatorMike FlanaganStarsKate SiegelZach GilfordKristin LehmanAn isolated island community experiences miraculous events - and frightening omens - after the arrival of a charismatic, mysterious young priest.I'm not exactly a fan of Flanagan's "TV" work (and find people already hailing the man as not only a new master, but a king of horror utterly ridiculous); however, (clunky-ass monologues and uneven pacing aside) Midnight Mass thoroughly engaged me. Kinda like mid-tier Stephen King. Which is pretty good. Hamish Linklater's wonderful.
- DirectorRob LettermanStarsJack BlackDylan MinnetteOdeya RushA teenager teams up with the daughter of young-adult horror author R.L. Stine after the writer's imaginary demons are set free on the town of Madison, Delaware. What a pleasant surprise. It's a genuinely fun YA/kids' movie that not only respects the source material, but utilizes it well into a somewhat inspired story. Just two things: Really wish it did not blow its load in this first entry (there are way too many monsters), and that the script was a little bit smarter (sharper dialogue, more character development etc). It ain't Jumanji (1995), but it's almost good.
- DirectorGary ShermanStarsHeather O'RourkeTom SkerrittNancy AllenCarol Anne is staying with her aunt in a high-rise building, where the supernatural forces haunting her make their return. Not great, but a lot of fun. Basically a feature length F/X showreel for the crew, and a damn good one at that.
- DirectorJake WestStarsLance HenriksenDoug BradleyDouglas RobertsResidents of a small backwoods community summon the murderous demon of vengeance himself for revenge against a local mortician who wronged their deceased love ones, while a town physician seeks to kill those involved in its summoning.Anytime it tries to take itself seriously it's just goofy (and not really the fun way), but I gotta give props to Ashes to Ashes for at least trying.
- DirectorCecilia AranovichStarsFrank WelkerGrey GriffinMatthew LillardScooby-Doo and his friends are drawn to a strange object in the middle of Nowhere, Kansas--the backwoods hometown of Courage and his owners, Eustace and Muriel Bagge.I've always loved Scooby-Doo (especially growing up) and considered Courage the Cowardly Dog one of the best animated shows out there, yet this totally missed the mark for me. The crossover makes a lot of sense and I genuinely enjoyed the way the characters interacted with each other, but the story was lackluster and the sense of humour quite dreadful.
- DirectorDamien LeoneStarsKatie MaguireCatherine A. CallahanMarie MaserA babysitter finds a VHS tape which features various sinister murders performed by a psychotic clown.Decent anthology. Dug the vibe of it all the most, especially the last short with Art, the Clown. Eager to check out Terrifier come next Halloween.
- DirectorRoy Ward BakerStarsCurd JürgensTerry-ThomasTom BakerAn anthology of five horror stories shared by five men trapped in the basement of an office building.Sorta neat, but way drawn out and pretty damp.
- DirectorJason AxinnStarsJosh DuhamelDulé HillKatharine IsabelleVisiting their dad's grave in the countryside, two siblings are attacked by a zombie. Barbara escapes to a farmhouse. A man helps barricade the house as more zombies arrive outside.Didn't mind Duhamel, nor Jimmi Simpson, but there's no reason for this to exist outside of some fella's portfolio. The animation's janky, and Axinn adds nothing new to Romero's stone cold classic. The original's so damn good, that it makes this one perfectly watchable as well.
- DirectorTyler PerryStarsTyler PerryCassi DavisPatrice LovelyMadea lands in the midst of mayhem when she spends a haunted Halloween fending off killers, paranormal poltergeists, ghosts, ghouls, and zombies while keeping a watchful eye on her wild teenage great-niece.Fell asleep... it's just way too f#cking long. The production value's much MUCH lower than expected, yet the the entertainment value's surprisingly high, especially if YOU are high. It bad, though.
- DirectorRobert SiodmakStarsLon Chaney Jr.Robert PaigeLouise AllbrittonWhen Katherine, a beautiful Southern girl obsessed with thoughts of eternal life, invites Count Alucard to come to her mansion in the U.S., she unleashes a Pandora's box of horror on unsuspecting relatives and neighbors.A wonderful watch after some of the stuff before.
- DirectorLewis AllenStarsRay MillandRuth HusseyDonald CrispA composer and his sister discover that the reason they are able to purchase a beautiful gothic seacoast mansion very cheaply is the house's unsavory past.Quaint. Classy. Lovely.
- CreatorPhillip IscoveAlex KurtzmanRoberto OrciStarsTom MisonLyndie GreenwoodNicole BeharieIchabod Crane is resurrected and pulled two and a half centuries through time to unravel a mystery that dates all the way back to the founding fathers.Season One: The pilot's high production value corny fun.
- DirectorChris WeitzStarsKristen StewartRobert PattinsonTaylor LautnerAfter Edward leaves because of an incident involving Bella, Jacob Black becomes her best friend. But what Bella doesn't realize is that Jacob also has a secret that will change their lives suddenly.Ideal as a lazy Sunday late afternoon watch. While I sorta like the part when the movie somewhat flirts with the vague idea of Fire Walk with Me for about 10 minutes or so, I'd still consider it (at best) a movie to fall asleep to. Watch the first 90 minutes, drift off into dreamland and let Michael Sheen chewing the scenery gently wake you from your slumber before the movie's over.
- DirectorDuwayne DunhamStarsDebbie ReynoldsKimberly J. BrownJudith HoagWhen a young girl living with her secret witch mother learns she too is a witch, she must help her witch grandmother save Halloweentown from evil forces.Precious.
- CreatorAnthony RussoJoe RussoTV adaptation of the video game Little Nightmares (2017), that follows the adventures of a 9-year-old girl named Six who is trapped on the bottom of a terrifying ship.So far it's wondeful.
- DirectorScott BeckBryan WoodsStarsKatie StevensWill BrittainLauryn Alisa McClainOn Halloween, a group of friends encounter an "extreme" haunted house that promises to feed on their darkest fears. The night turns deadly as they come to the horrifying realization that some nightmares are real.Starts out great, it's genuinely a lot of fun for the first 30 (or so) minutes, but unfortunately Haunt gradually runs out of steam after that, the scares become emptier, and the overall craft cheaper. Still, a decent watch this time of year.
- DirectorAdam WingardStarsDan StevensSheila KelleyMaika MonroeA soldier introduces himself to the Peterson family, claiming to be a friend of their son who died in action. After the young man is welcomed into their home, a series of accidental deaths seem to be connected to his presence.Good stuff!
- DirectorLarry ThomasStarsCassandra PetersonJohn ParagonJohn CarradineThis 1984 Halloween celebration is hosted by Elvira, with guests John Carradine, Laraine Newman, Todd Rundgren, and Cheech Marin.Bodacious fun!
- DirectorChris PalmerStarsJensen AcklesJosh DuhamelNaya RiveraHeld hostage by the powerful Falcone crime family, Gotham City is rife with crime and corruption. Adding to the chaos is the mysterious Holiday killer, who has been targeting the underworld and leaving a trail of terror - and body bags. Finally, some decent art style to the usual DC animated churn. The animation's still a bit janky, though. The movie's actually pretty good. It lost me a bit in the middle, but it starts and ends strong. However, Batman's kind of a dumbbell, here.
- StarsLesley BannatyneCandice BergenJamie Lee CurtisThe origins of Halloween are explored in this engrossing program on the subject. A ghoulish array of costumes, make up, and decoration descend on communities every year on October 31st, but few people are aware of how the celebration came to exist. Harry Smith attempts to get to the bottom of the mystery in THE HAUNTED HISTORY OF HALLOWEEN, which delves into the 3,000 years of hoopla that traditionally unfolds when October comes around. As the history is explained, so are various failed attempts to co-opt the festival by various religious groups; but the most compelling revelation is how little the festival has changed over the centuries. A marvelous way to gain a historical perspective on this entertaining holiday, Smith's program is almost as fun as carving a pumpkin, donning a spooky costume, and undertaking a little trick or treating! (Sourced from Metadata)Not exactly fun, but it's infortmative stuff.
