P-Q-R 2024 Version
Some time ago I started writing short reviews of films I watched and posted them on Film Afficianado, while also rating them X/10. I have been thinking about a way to organize these alphabetically so I could find them easily if I needed to. I will try dividing the alphabet into 4 Lists. I will probably have to wait until I am at a computer to organize each List. I will probably keep sequels chronological. *The original MNOPQR list is messed up, so I am going to split it and redo it over time. I had 3 or 4 #1's and the numbers are messed up. It makes it hard to order a new entry.

- DirectorOren PeliStarsKatie FeatherstonMicah SloatMark FredrichsAfter moving into a suburban home, a couple becomes increasingly disturbed by a nightly demonic presence.7/10 - 1x watch via Blu-ray. I got the 1-3 Blu-ray set at Dollar Tree some time ago. I was going to watch this months ago, but I have a faulty remote for my BR player and could not get past the start up screen. Today I bought a universal remote at Walmart and was finally able to watch this movie. For whatever reason, you do not seem to be able to get to the Menu until after the film has played through. You have to choose Play Movie or Play Movie with Alternate Ending to go anywhere with the Blu-ray. As for the movie, I thought they did pretty well with the found footage aspect and I was engaged throughout until the end. The ending was a little cheesy. I don't know how they could end it and I would like it more, but neither ending did it for me. Still impressive that it was made and spawned a franchise. 4/21/24.
- DirectorTod WilliamsStarsKatie FeatherstonMicah SloatMolly EphraimAfter experiencing what they think are a series of "break-ins", a family sets up security cameras around their home, only to realize that the events unfolding before them are more sinister than they seem.7/10 - 1x watch via Blu-ray. It was a solid sequel. I shoud've written the review 2 days ago right after watching it so I could remember how I felt about it. I may have rated it lower than the original, but I have forgotten how I felt afterwards. 4/26/24.
- DirectorHenry JoostAriel SchulmanStarsChloe CsengeryJessica Tyler BrownChristopher Nicholas SmithIn 1988, young sisters Katie and Kristi befriend an invisible entity called Toby, who resides in their home.7/10 - 1x watch via Blu-ray. I had to watch the last 20 minutes several hours later. It was another solid entry. It had some very creepy stuff. I'm not sure I understood how everything lines up with the previous two, so I will have to do some reading online. This is the last one I own on Blu-ray. 4/28/24.
- DirectorDon CoscarelliStarsA. Michael BaldwinBill ThornburyReggie BannisterA teenage boy and his friends face off against a mysterious grave robber, known only as the Tall Man, who employs a lethal arsenal of unearthly weapons.7/10 - 1x watch free streamed via the Roku Channel. I have heard of this film the last few years and seen it in movie stores. Before that, I don't really remember it being a movie at all. It's an interesting story, but some of it is kinda corny. There are some cool inspired ideas. Unfortunately, it looks like II is owned by Universal and you cannot stream it for free. If I see the movies cheap somewhere I'll pick them up. I watched this yesterday, so it is not completely fresh on my mind. 2/19/24.
- DirectorDan TrachtenbergStarsAmber MidthunderDakota BeaversDane DiLiegroNaru, a skilled warrior of the Comanche Nation, fights to protect her tribe against one of the first highly-evolved Predators to land on Earth.7/10 - 1x watch via Blu-ray. This is definitely better than The Predator 2018. The CGI kinda hurts it, but I don't know how else they could do all the things involving animals. I don't know if the predator in this film has the 'strong morals' of prior predators. He uses cloaking so much, it doesn't seem like it's really fair a lot of the time. I would have to rewatch Predator 1987 to remember how much that one used cloaking. The weapons are so advanced, it also doesn't seem that fair. I didn't quite understand how the ending trap worked. 4/26/24.
- DirectorJames DeMonacoStarsEthan HawkeLena HeadeyMax BurkholderA wealthy family is held hostage for harboring the target of a murderous syndicate during the Purge, a 12-hour period in which any and all crime is legal.8/10 - 1x watch via Blu-ray. I've known of this series for years, but had yet to watch any of them. This was a Dollar Tree title. I thought it was pretty effective. It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I'm surprised at how low the rating is. I will have to watch reviews of it now to see the problems people had with it. When it got to the end I realized one character was unaccounted for, so I figured out pretty much what would happen, but then again, due to previous events in the film, you're not totally sure how it will play out. I own the 3rd one, but not the 2nd one. I enjoyed this enough that I wanted to keep watching the series. 4/5/24.
- DirectorStuart GordonStarsJeffrey CombsBruce AbbottBarbara CramptonAfter an odd new medical student arrives on campus, a dedicated local and his girlfriend become involved in bizarre experiments centering around the re-animation of dead tissue.8/10 - 1x watch via DVD. I picked this DVD up when FYE was going out of business in the Tyler, Tx mall. I was vaguely aware of the movie, but had never seen it. Was this on my mind because I have seen Barbara Crampton online and seen other Horror related YouTubers mention the film? I was surprised at the quality of the film and how wellmade it was. I was expecting something probably lower budget looking. This definitely went places I didn't expect and gave me a queasy, anxious feeling. Crampton was certainly beautiful, but nothing prepared me for a disembodied head held by a headless body making out with her and worse. I don't understand the logic of a severed head being able to command a headless body, but it's a movie. It's a lot to take in on a first viewing. I don't know if the ending really lands - was it always meant to lead to a sequel? I can't remember the timeline of the movie, but someone would've had to have answered for some of these deaths, so there should've been someone questioning people about them. 3/1/24.
