A young Mexican man's dream comes true when he gets the job of a lifetime at the hottest resort in Acapulco. But he soon realizes the job is far more complicated than he ever imagined.

Stars: Enrique Arrizon, Fernando Carsa, Damián Alcázar, Camila Perez

Votes: 6,689

Present day Maximo is headed back to Las Colinas, while his 1985 counterpart continues his upward trajectory at the resort as this hit Apple TV+ series launches Season 3 with a two-episode drop for the premiere. The full ensemble of delightful characters will all be back to complicate Maximo's rags-to-riches mission, alongside new recurring guest stars Jaime Camil (“Schmigadoon”) and Cristo Fernández (“Ted Lasso”).

Season 3 premieres on Apple TV+ May 1, 2024

2. The Idea of You (2024)

R | 115 min | Comedy, Drama, Romance

68 Metascore

Solène, a 40-year-old single mom, begins an unexpected romance with 24-year-old Hayes Campbell, the lead singer of August Moon, the hottest boy band on the planet.

Director: Michael Showalter | Stars: Anne Hathaway, Nicholas Galitzine, Ella Rubin, Annie Mumolo

Votes: 6,184

If the idea of Anne Hathaway being happy makes you feel miserable, skip to the next pick while we follow her to a staged version of Coachella, where her 40something mom-type character falls for a famous pop star reminiscent of Harry Styles. Nicholas Galitzine, who is only slightly behind Jacob Elordiwhen it comes to being everywhere right now, is dotted with Styles-like fake tattoos all the way down his arms in a role that should further widen his fanbase. Pity the movie didn't get a theatrical release in the post Anyone but You era, but really this romdram wants to curl up with you on the couch. For the 90s kids: Who knew Michael Showalter (Spoiler Alert, The Big Sick, My Name Is Doris) would evolve into a director who specializes in nuanced romantic relationships?

Premieres on Prime Video May 2, 2024

3. Hacks (2021– )

TV-MA | 30 min | Comedy, Drama

Explores a dark mentorship that forms between Deborah Vance, a legendary Las Vegas comedian, and an entitled, outcast 25-year-old.

Stars: Jean Smart, Hannah Einbinder, Carl Clemons-Hopkins, Mark Indelicato

Votes: 37,540

So much is revealed in the Season 3 trailer for "Hacks," we’re surprised it wasn't announced whether or not this would be the Emmy winning-comedy's final season. We do know S3 reunites comedian Deborah Vance and her former writer Ava a few years after the veteran performer pushed her daughter figure out of the nest so they could each pursue success on their own terms. Both women found forms of respective redemption at the end of Season 2, though we get a sense that Ava hasn't exactly landed on her feet back in LA, while Deborah enjoys the luxe, late-career success she deserves. We love how the show has deftly maneuvered around the whole comedy world's "you can’t be funny anymore" lament by focusing on a main character who is evolving on her own terms, and the story's apparent nods to Jean Smart's health scare already has us reaching for a kerchief. As Paul W. Downs (Jimmy) and Megan Statler (Kayla) are upped to series regulars this season, get ready for a true cavalcade of stars situation with guest appearances by Christina Hendricks and Christopher Lloyd.

Season 3 premieres on Max May 3, 2024

4. Unfrosted (2024)

PG-13 | 93 min | Biography, Comedy, History

41 Metascore

In 1963 Michigan, business rivals Kellogg's and Post compete to create a cake that could change breakfast forever.

Director: Jerry Seinfeld | Stars: Isaac Bae, Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rickett, Rachael Harris

Votes: 2,273

From sneakers and cell phones to the world’s most addicting food and games, Hollywood loves a good product film. This month Netflix and Jerry Seinfeld are getting into the goods-and-services movie game with Unfrosted, a comedy about the creation of the Pop-Tart. Based on a joke the comedian told in his [q]23 Hours to Kill[/q] stand-up special, the movie takes a satirically unserious approach to its subject matter befitting for the beloved funny man’s feature directorial debut. Come for the lightly historical story, stay for the never ending parade of cameos from everyone in Hollywood (seriously, go check out the full cast).

Premieres on Netflix May 3, 2024

5. Anyone But You (2023)

R | 103 min | Comedy, Romance

52 Metascore

After an amazing first date, Bea and Ben's fiery attraction turns ice-cold--until they find themselves unexpectedly reunited at a wedding in Australia. So they do what any two mature adults would do: pretend to be a couple.

Director: Will Gluck | Stars: Sydney Sweeney, Glen Powell, Alexandra Shipp, Mia Artemis

Votes: 74,898

Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell star as Bea and Ben in the latest enemies-to-lovers romcom ‘Anyone But You.’ The film follows two train wrecks as they hatch a scheme to pose as a couple at a destination wedding. With classic hijinx like pratfalls, explosions, and cringey romantic stunts (Sweeney’s Bea requests Ben “Titanic” her at the bow of a yacht, for example), this light-hearted comedy is the kind of breath of fresh air needed at the end of a long work week.
