Meanwhile, June McGuire and Betty Vale, whose singing act has failed at the café, are packing for New York. Shorty, who has fallen for Betty, persuades the girls to go to the ranch. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Rusty has returned with intentions of selling the ranch. He tells Shorty, Curly and Larry to hit the trail, and instructs his cowhands, the Hoosier Hotshots, to round up the cattle for the buyer's inspection the next morning. Shorty, Curly and Larry inadvertently (of course) make a hole in the fence and the cattle get out. The only-slightly smarter Hotshots suspect rustlers and when they come upon Sam Clemens, the prospective buyer, they hand him over to the sheriff as a rustler. They hear that Tom Trove, a Broadway producer, is in town and get him to the ranch where they plan to audition their talents. Rusty gets the more-than-miffed Clemens out of jail and they return to the ranch to find a show in progress with Trove as a disgruntled audience. Things aren't going good for anybody at the old ranch house, until Curly spills some rocks from his pocket that turn out to be that most valuable and rare mineral "Vanadanite," and the ranch is loaded with it. Clemens makes Rusty his partner in a mining venture, and the Hoosier Hotshots, with the unintentional aid (of course) of Shorty, Curly and Larry, make a hit with Trove, who signs them for his Diamond Circle in New York, and includes June and Betty.

They learn that the Emir of Shmo has absconded with the contraband jewel. They journey to the stronghold of Shmo where they disguise as Santa Clauses and scare the ruler into giving them the diamond.

In an effort to make the Midland football team a bigger draw and pay off the stadium debt, Ted is put on the varsity team--where his exploits don't match those he had on screen, and he is actually a liability. He soon incurs the enmity of Biff Gordon, the school's football hero and Ted's rival for Jean. Biff sets Ted up with a fake fraternity initiation, wherein Ted passes on the tin fraternity ring, taken from a candy box, to Jean. Suspecting unjustly that Jean was part of the hoax, Ted quits school and signs a big radio contract. When the school learns of the hoax, it suspends Biff and the entire team on the eve of the big game. Ted hears about it and his loyalty to the school prompts him to return and square the team with the faculty, and they win the big game. Ted, still believing that Jean was in on the trick, boards a train back to New York. Jean learns that Ted is about to lose his radio contract because he can't get back in time, and suggests to Sam that he arrange with the school for Ted to broadcast from the stadium, using the college band and glee club.

They arrive to finding Nora waiting for her father, who, when he arrives, turns out to be the man they just fought with.

When the husband arrives home, the boys try to hide, but are discovered, and after dodging some knives, leave on the run.

The boys confront the husband and find Junior, and in the process the estranged couple is re-united.

During the play the stooges (as southern gentlemen) and the rest of the cast spit up feathers during what was supposed to be a serious scene. The critic thinks it's a hilarious satire and the boys are redeemed.

The boys come up with a concoction they try to pass of as the real stuff, but are exposed when the real professor and his daughter are also kidnapped. The stooges help them escape, using their secret formula to fuel a jeep.

Uncle Phineas gets in the middle of the fight, and Mrs. McGruder ends it by knocking out the strongman. It turns out that Uncle Phineas and the landlady were childhood sweethearts and he marries her, leaving the stooges out of the bucks once again.
