The “SNL” 5-Timers Club has been around since December 1990, when Tom Hanks joked in his monologue that a person’s fifth time hosting is when they receive a membership card into the club. Hanks then left the stage and joined Steve Martin, Elliott Gould and Paul Simon in an expensive-looking set with hors d’oeuvres, waiters and a doorman. The iconic club set would be seen multiple times on NBC’s late sketch comedy throughout the decades, often (but not always) when a new host is anointed as a five-timer. Members of the club are always seen wearing exclusive jackets embroidered with a “5” badge.
So who has hosted “Saturday Night Live” at least five times? Scroll through our “SNL” 5-Timers Club members list above, which includes (in alphabetical order by last name) some of the most recognizable people in the industry, including Tina Fey, Paul Rudd and Tom Hanks.

Lorne Michaels is an expert at celebrating the legacy of “Saturday Night Live.” The show’s creator has produced variety specials for the NBC program’s 15th anniversary, 25th anniversary and 40th anniversary, so the upcoming 50th season should have a highly entertaining spectacle. Nothing less than a three-hour event would be expected, but how else should “SNL” celebrate the golden anniversary season, which would begin in the autumn of 2024 and continue through May, 2025?
Here is our exciting, fun suggestion for a way to go above and beyond for the live special. Over the course of a 20-22 episode season, NBC would certainly have almost every episode featuring the current cast along with hot guest hosts and musical guests. However, for the other five episodes spread out over several months, devote an entire 90 minutes to each previous decade. Invite back the biggest cast members from a decade along with well-known guest hosts and music stars.

Murphy Brown was a hit in the '90s for its strong portrayal of a female reporter tackling real issues. The 2018 revival of Murphy Brown only lasted one season, likely due to its heavy focus on politics. Candice Bergen and the rest of the cast have continued with guest appearances and new projects since the show ended.
Murphy Brown was one of the biggest comedies of the 1990s. Candice Bergen's titular investigative reporter for the Fyi news magazine captured viewers' attention on CBS for ten seasons and nearly 250 episodes. That's a run that fewer and fewer shows see these days.
Murphy Brown stood out for its strong portrayal of a no-nonsense female reporter tackling significant issues of the day. The show was a hallmark of its time, so it's no surprise it was given the reboot treatment in 2018. However, this revival only lasted one season before CBS pulled the plug.

Dan Wakefield, a prolific author and journalist who made television history when he created and wrote the controversial late-1970s drama James at 15 only to resign when NBC executives bristled over an episode’s depiction of teenage sexuality, died yesterday at a hospice facility in Miami. He was 91, and had been in declining health in recent months.
His death was announced by his attorney, Ken Bennett, to the Indianapolis Star. Wakefield was born and raised in Indianapolis.
In addition to James at 15 and various novels, Wakefield’s credits include the screenplay for the 1997 film Going All The Way, starring Ben Affleck and Jeremy Davies, based on his 1970 novel of the same name. The 1979 divorce drama Starting Over starring Burt Reynolds, Jill Clayburgh and Candice Bergen, written by James L. Brooks and directed by Alan J. Pakula, was based on Wakefield’s 1973 novel.

Nothing defined New Hollywood quite like "The Graduate," and for very good reason. The film was chock full of innovation, from the salacious script to the ground-breaking cinematography, but the movie might be best remembered for its incredible cast. The coming-of-age classic features career-defining performances from Anne Bancroft, already a huge star at the time, and Dustin Hoffman, the best actor ever, in one of the first major roles of his long and storied career.
The 1967 film follows Ben, a recent college graduate (as the film's title implies) with an uncertain future and a community of expectant WASPs to answer to. In his summertime languor, he finds his way into the waiting arms of Mrs. Robinson, a middle-aged family friend who persistently pursues our passive hero into his sexual awakening.

Ryan was diagnosed with chronic leukaemia in 2001 and with prostate cancer in 2012. “Ryan was a very generous man who has always been there to help his loved ones for decade upon decade,” his son wrote, reports Variety.

The late actor’s beauty was used for a string of roles, including Love Story and Paper Moon, but he also displayed a rare comic prowess
Ryan O’Neal, Hollywood actor and star of Love Story, dies aged 82
There were plenty of handsome leading men in the Hollywood of the early 70s: Warren Beatty, Robert Redford, Burt Reynolds … but none of them were as purely and fascinatingly pretty as Ryan O’Neal, none with that cherubic pertness, complicated with a kind of wounded vulnerability: a pout, a frown, a beguiling flash of femininity to go with the dreamboat male-lead looks, which went hand-in-hand also with something worldly and hard-edged.
It is a great moment in 1973’s The Thief Who Came To Dinner when Ryan O’Neal’s jewel thief coolly inveigles himself into a fancy society soiree and Jacqueline Bisset is taken aback and perhaps even jealous of that brazen, faintly...

Less than two months after she hosted “Saturday Night Live” for the third time, Emma Stone picked up her first Best Actress Oscar nomination for “La La Land,” which soon led to a victory at the 2017 Academy Awards. As the star of “Poor Things,” she is now on a quest for a bookend trophy that would coincide with her recent entry into said NBC sketch series’ prestigious Five-Timers Club. Even if history doesn’t fully repeat itself, just being included in 2024’s lead actress lineup would give her the impressive distinction of being the only performer with multiple same-category Oscar bids directly linked to “SNL” hosting gigs.
Stone’s fifth official “SNL” appearance (not counting three mid-2010s cameos) occurred on December 2, just one day before the seventh anniversary of her fortuitous third outing. She had also previously served as emcee in October 2010, November 2011, and April 2019. This time, she began...

And Stone, currently starring on The Curse, got teary-eyed as she reflected on the significance of that moment. “This is amazing,” she said. “This has been a dream of mine since I was a kid, and it means so much that I get to share this with you guys, so thank you.” Check out Stone’s induction and other highlights from Saturday’s SNL episode below. This week’s Saturday Night Live cold open gave a musical send-off to expelled congressman George Santos.
Before Bowen Yang’s Santos made his way over to a piano to perform a parody of “Candle in the Wind,” he took questions from the media regarding his removal from the U.S. House of Representatives.

Emma Stone joined the Five-Timers Club on this week’s episode of “Saturday Night Live,” and as is tradition, she was joined by other members of the club – but in a twist, Stone’s induction was female-focused.
Tina Fey was the first to appear and noted that Stone is the youngest member of the club. “I am the second-youngest at 53,” she quipped.
Fey then brought out Candice Bergen to help with the induction, who discussed a women’s room for club members. “It’s got everything,” Bergen said. “It’s got showers, a locker room, a big portrait with the eyes cut out so Martin Short can peep in.”
When Stone inquired if the eyeholes worked both ways and you could see into the men’s room, Bergen said, “You don’t wanna do that. I looked in there once and saw a creepy ventriloquist with a ventriloquist dummy staring at me.

Emma Stone joined a very exclusive club on Saturday (December 2).
The 35-year-old actress became the youngest member of the Five-Timers Club of Saturday Night Live when she stepped onto the stage to host the show.
She was welcomed into the club by Tina Fey and Candice Bergen during her opening monologue, and they threw a bit of shade at the last inductee in the process.
Keep reading to find out more…
During the monologue, Tina joked about how Candice created the Five-Timers Women’s Club.
What is that exactly? Well, it’s changed over the years. At the beginning, it was “a small, private place to cry,” Candice explained. Now, “it’s a big, luxurious place to cry.”
The women presented Emma her jacket to signify membership. When she put it on, she pulled a joint out of the pocket, prompting the women to joke that it was Woody Harrelson‘s jacket.

One of the greatest decisions made by Lorne Michaels when creating “Saturday Night Live” was to have a different guest host each week for the variety sketch program. Audiences greet each episode with new enthusiasm to see how that celebrity will handle the challenges of a live 90-minute show.

This weekend, Emma Stone returns to Saturday Night Live for her fifth hosting gig. The five-timer distinction has become more notable over the decade or so, even as it's become a far less exclusive club.
But if the notion of having earned one's place in the SNL pantheon exists, Emma Stone certainly has. Since she first hosted in 2010, Stone has proved to be uncommonly adept at every kind of comedy style the show has thrown at her, featuring in some of the best sketches of the last 15 years. She's the best Saturday Night Live guest host to emerge this century (so far), and it's not a particularly close race.

Revered and reviled U.S. diplomat Henry Kissinger, whose death at 100 on Nov. 29 was met with the widespread view that his realpolitik was responsible for some of this country’s worst global war crimes, loved American celebrity — both his own, an expression of state power, as well as that of others, especially performers. He was “the ultimate starfucker,” noted Daniel Drezner, professor of international politics at the Tufts University’s Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, in an appraisal published earlier this year on the occasion of Kissinger’s centennial.
Prior to meeting President Richard Nixon in 1967, Kissinger made frequent trips to Santa Monica to consult with the Rand Corporation, a global policy think tank. But after being appointed as national security adviser by the newly elected president in 1969, his profile skyrocketed — and the glitz of Hollywood was within reach. Book Club: The Next Chapter sets up the possibility of a sequel, hinting at unresolved storylines and potential character developments for Book Club 3. The original film and its sequel were hits, making a third installment likely, with the main cast, including Jane Fonda and Diane Keaton, expected to reprise their roles. While the details of the third movie remain uncertain, the location and plot will likely continue to be influenced by the strong presence of the ensemble cast, which has been a key factor in the success of the franchise.
After the release of the 2023 sequel Book Club: The Next Chapter, the hilarious comedy series has become a franchise, but will there be a Book Club 3? The original film was released in 2018 and tells the story of a group of older women who try to spice up their love lives after reading Fifty Shades of Grey. Though Book Club was...

TV’s IP fetish is no coincidence. Recognizable titles and stars can guarantee strong initial tune-in off of modest marketing. But long-term results are lackluster. Just look at the past decade’s worth of revivals. Different from reboots or remakes, risky ventures in their own right, a revival features original castmembers of long-departed series revisiting characters for whom there’s an assumed appetite. Viewers aren’t often as hungry as studio brass would like. The average life span of recent revivals is three seasons, while their originals averaged eight-year runs. So as Paramount+ kicks off October by nixing one revived comedy (iCarly, starring Miranda Cosgrove, above) and attempting to mount another (Frasier with Kelsey Grammer, which premiered Oct. 12), The Hollywood Reporter examines 10 case studies from this revivals wave and where they went right … or horribly wrong.

Let Them All Talk, directed by Steven Soderbergh, received mixed reviews due to its experimental nature and improvised dialogue. Critics praised the strong, believable performances by the cast, especially Candice Bergen's memorable and unapologetic portrayal. Some critics found the lack of a central script and meandering storyline to be detrimental, resulting in a dull and aimless cinematic experience for certain viewers.
When the Meryl Streep movie, Let Them All Talk, was released in 2020, it was met with both positive and negative reception. Let Them All Talk is a comedy-drama film directed by legendary filmmaker Steven Soderbergh, best known for films like Contagion and the quotable Magic Mike trilogy. The movie is about a Pulitzer Prize-winning author named Alice Hughes (Meryl Streep) who goes on a cruise ship vacation with her nephew Tyler (Lucas Hedges) to have fun while also attempting to reconnect with her old friends Roberta (Candice Bergen...

Since 1991 (and primarily within the last 10 years), a total of six TV performers have earned recognition from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for reprising roles that had brought them Golden Globe nominations at least a decade earlier. With this and his own stellar HFPA track record in mind, Kelsey Grammer – the two-time Best TV Comedy Actor-winning star of “Frasier” – can more than reasonably be expected to join said prestigious club by scoring his ninth bid in the category (and first in 22 years) for the Paramount Plus revival of his beloved NBC sitcom. What’s more, he might actually make history as the first actor involved in such a situation to pull off a comeback victory.
Grammer collected his first eight Golden Globe nominations for “Frasier” between 1994 and 2002 and emerged triumphant in both 1996 and 2001. After saying goodbye to Dr. Frasier Crane 19 years ago, he is now set to lead a long-awaited...

After a six-year run leading Miramax, CEO Bill Block is exiting the studio, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Block’s contract at Miramax, co-owned by beIN Media Group and Paramount Global, expired this week and was not renewed. The executive started as CEO in April 2017.
The studio is looking to develop projects based on its own intellectual property rather than aiming to acquire projects, a source close to Miramax’s owners said. A search is underway for a new top executive.
Miramax, founded by Harvey and Bob Weinstein and then later purchased and sold by Disney, has largely been known in recent years for its expansive library of more than 700 films. However, since Block joined and its acquisition by BeIN and Paramount, the studio has tried to make a bigger push into producing and distribution with the relaunch of the Halloween franchise, as well as films such as The Gentleman,...

Gold Derby recently hosted two polls about which legends should be honored at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards. Your choice to receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award for film life achievement is Julie Andrews. The top selection to receive the Carol Burnett Award for TV life achievement is Dick Van Dyke. Wouldn’t that be an amazing ceremony if the iconic stars of “Mary Poppins” would both be celebrated on the same night? The only word to describe it would be “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious”!
Both Andrews and Van Dyke have received the Kennedy Center Honors and SAG life achievement awards. Andrews was honored last year with the AFI life achievement award. Van Dyke has been inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame.
Our DeMille poll offered 18 possible choices, and here are the results below:
Julie Andrews (26.39%)
Glenn Close (16.09%)
Sigourney Weaver (9.87%)

Michael Caine (6.01%)
Jessica Lange (5.36%)

“And Just Like That” is back on Max for a second season, and it’s bringing some famous — and familiar — faces.
Kim Cattrall confirmed that she will reprise her role of Samantha Jones in an on-camera cameo. Her character communicated with Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) via text message throughout the first season, including Mr. Big’s funeral and the Paris finale.
A slim and trim John Corbett will return as Carrie’s former fiance Aidan Shaw as she moves on from the death of her husband.
“Sex and the City” fans will also be thrilled that Candice Bergen will reprise her role as Carrie’s former editor Enid Frick. Julie Halston will also be back as socialite Bitsy Von Muffling, who is as delightful as her name.
Of course, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon are back as Charlotte York Goldenblatt and Miranda Hobbes, Carrie’s longtime BFFs.

For just about every decade that there has been a sitcom on television, it’s been easy to identify those stars who shine bright as the current face of comedy. In the ’50s, it was Jackie Gleason and Lucille Ball. In the ’60s, it was Dick Van Dyke and Andy Griffith. The ’70s brought us Bob Newhart, Mary Tyler Moore and Bea Arthur, followed by Sherman Hemsley, Bill Cosby and Michael J. Fox in the ’80s, Jerry Seinfeld, Roseanne Barr and the cast of Friends in the ’90s, Charlie Sheen and Bernie Mac in the early aughts and Tina Fey, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Jim Parsons in 2006 and beyond.
But ever since Veep and The Big Bang Theory went off the air in 2019, the spotlight has remained surprisingly vacant — the result of an expanding and ever-changing business in which multi-camera sitcoms have become vestiges of the past while contemporary comedies have...

Suits is one of the best legal dramas that actually managed to make the profession of lawyer cool again. The USA Network series follows Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams), who has a photographic memory and joins Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) at a prestigious law firm. The only problem with that is Mike didn’t actually go to law school and he doesn’t have a degree about which he has to lie to everyone. Suits ran for 9 brilliant seasons and ended its run around three years ago in 2019. So, if you are a Suits fan and miss the series here are some brilliant shows like Suits you can watch.

“Succession” is no stranger to the Emmys. A two-time Best Drama Series winner, the HBO show from creator Jesse Armstrong is gunning for a third win in the category for its fourth and final season, which concluded in May. But it could easily pick up a number of other Emmys along the way. On Wednesday, the show received a staggering 27 nominations, 14 of which were in the acting categories as it tied the acting nominations record it set last year. In doing so, the show made history as the first drama series to earn three nominations for Best Drama Actor in the same year.
Although his role was reduced this season, Brian Cox received his third nomination for portraying Logan Roy, the demanding patriarch of the wealthy Roy family whose death early in the final season initially united his children but created much inner turmoil with regards to who would take...

Since his “retirement” from filmmaking in 2013, director Steven Soderbergh has never fully backed away from the world of features: He has eight movies to his name in the past decade — more than some of his peers have produced in their entire careers. But Soderbergh did subsequently branch out into the world of TV, a medium he’s approached with the same enterprising, experimental spirit as he does his latter-period films. First came 2014’s “The Knick,” the Cinemax period medical drama helmed entirely by Soderbergh at a time when marquee directors were just starting to dabble in TV; then “Mosaic,” a project released in 2017 as both an interactive app and an HBO series, showing the same interest in new technology that’s led Soderbergh to shoot multiple movies on an iPhone.
“Mosaic” was a collaboration with screenwriter Ed Solomon, who also penned Soderbergh’s 1950s noir “No Sudden Move.” The new...

Warning: This post contains spoilers for And Just Like That Season 2And Just Like That season 2 is bringing back several familiar faces from Sex and the City — Enid Frick, one of Carrie Bradshaw’s least favorite people, is one of them. While Sex and the City didn’t really have a primary antagonist, Enid was the closest thing to a villain for Carrie. The two never really saw eye to eye on much, and Enid’s return in And Just Like That hasn’t changed that.
Carrie is back to writing, and is in the midst of releasing her latest book about Mr. Big’s death and the grief she went through in the aftermath. As she prepped for her new book, Carrie wound up crossing paths with the always irate Enid, an older journalist from Carrie’s past. Spoiler alert! If you haven’t seen season 2, episode 4 of “And Just Like That”, proceed with caution.
Is “And Just Like That” finally hitting its stride? The “Sex and the City” reboot is four episodes into its sophomore season, and Thursday’s episode proved to be its best yet.
With Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) back in New York City, the original gang, including Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Charlotte York Goldenblatt (Kristin Davis), and honorary member Anthony Marantino (Mario Cantone), is able to meet up for lunch for some gossip and dirty talk, just like the old days.
There are quips about Miranda’s new fluid lifestyle with Anthony calling her “Rachel Maddow.” There are not-so-subtle euphemisms on Charlotte’s part — mayo, confetti, and a finale of fireworks (Happy July 4th!), no less — and at the heart of it, there’s the friendships fans of the original “Sex and the City...

Book Club: The Next Chapter will see the continued adventures of the titular women's reading group, and while all four main actresses return, they're not the only members of the Book Club: The Next Chapter cast. The original 2018 movie, Book Club, was directed by Bill Holderman and co-written by Holderman and Erin Simms, and it sees the lives of Diane (Diane Keaton), Vivian (Jane Fonda), Sharon (Candice Bergen), and Carol (Mary Steenburgen) change after they all read Fifty Shades of Grey. Book Club 2 found the women in Italy on a bachelorette trip celebrating Vivian's engagement to Arthur (Don Johnson), culminating in a destination wedding.
The combined talent of the lead veteran actresses turned Book Club into a hit, as it grossed over $106 million worldwide against a $10 million budget (via The Numbers). While Book Club 2 got mixed reviews, with negative critiques pointing to an unoriginal plot, the cast was praised. The...

It’s not often that a non-superhero movie can assemble a cast of giant stars. It is even less common for that cast to include some of the greatest actresses of their generation. In 2018, a group of once-in-a-generation talents was brought together for Book Club, the story of a group of friends whose lives are turned upside down when they decide to read the salacious best-selling novel, Fifty Shades of Grey. This year, they returned for an unexpected but extremely welcome sequel, Book Club: The Next Chapter. Jane Fonda who made a name for herself in the 1960s and 70s for her political dramas like Coming Home as well as camp classics like Barbarella, Diane Keaton who won an Oscar for her iconic role in Annie Hall, Mary Steenburgen, the Oscar-winning star of films like Melvin & Howard and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, and Candice Bergen, the legendary actress known...

Exclusive: On the heels of his newest feature Radical‘s Festival Favorite Award win at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, filmmaker Christopher Zalla has inked with Entertainment 360 for management.
Zalla wrote and directed the critically acclaimed drama, based on a 2013 article written for Wired magazine by Josh Davis, which was among the most discussed titles at Sundance 2023. The film is based on the true story of Sergio Juarez Correa (Coda‘s Eugenio Derbez), a teacher in the neglected town of Matamoros, Mexico, who as Zalla notes in his director’s statement, suffered “a mental breakdown” after “increasingly failing to reach his students in each successive year.” When Correa stumbled upon “a new kind of child-directed learning” in a Ted Talk, he decided to try to implement it, in order to turn the situation in his classroom around, to profound results.
