Originally reported way back in 2021, Edgar Wright is directing a new take on Stephen King’s The Running Man, and Paramount has announced out of CinemaCon today that Glen Powell will star.
Edward Wright will direct the brand new movie adaptation of Stephen King’s novel and he will also produce along with his producing partner Nira Park and Simon Kinberg.
King’s novel, published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman, was released in 1982, loosely adapted into the same-titled Arnold Schwarzenegger-starring film in 1987.
Deadline reminds, “King’s futuristic novel is a chase thriller set in a dystopian America in the year 2025. The story centers on Ben Richards, a desperate man who participates in violent reality show “The Running Man” in order to win enough money to revive his gravely ill daughter. The show follows Richards being chased by numerous hunters, sent to kill him.”
Last we heard, Wright’s version...

The Alien Report: "The Alien Report follows "The Abductee" (Braxton Hale), an everyday American who finds himself hijacked by extraterrestrial beings and taken on a terrifying journey of self-preservation, running afoul of classic "grey aliens", disturbing human-et hybrids, and the U.S. government's shady Men in Black. Based on countless documented reports made by self-proclaimed abductees, The Alien Report is a meticulous, straight-faced look at what an real-life alien abduction would be like, from the perspective of first-person cameras.
The Alien Report has screened at festivals worldwide, winning awards in the U.S., UK, Australia, and Brazil. Shot on iPhone and GoPro cameras as a non-traditional narrative composed of re-assembled found footage, the picture plays out as both a sci-fi thriller and first-person documentary. It is the intended first chapter in a trilogy of films about extraterrestrial abductions.
The Alien Report was directed by Patrick Donnelly and produced by Kevin Schroeder and Michael Sell.

It’s April and we’re bringing even more fun to Screambox, with new films including Stuart Gordon’s King of the Ants, the Lebanese found-footage horror What Is Buried Must Remain, and bonkers B-movie Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies.
What Is Buried Must Remain haunts Screambox on April 12. A modern ghost story with ancient roots, the timely Lebanese found-footage hybrid finds young filmmakers confronted by supernatural forces engaged in a war for the very soul of the land.
Screambox goes to war with Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies on April 12. Indie horror staple Bill Oberst Jr. (3 From Hell) stars as the President who emancipated the slaves, saved the Union, and slaughtered the undead.
Rise of the Zombies also takes a bite out of Screambox on April 12. Its all-star cast includes Mariel Hemingway (Manhattan), Ethan Suplee (Mallrats), LeVar Burton (“Star Trek: The Next Generation”), Danny Trejo (From Dusk Till Dawn), and French Stewart...

Attack Of The Fifty Foot Woman Remake Coming From Tim Burton And ... Gone Girl Author Gillian Flynn?
If you've been missing the acidic wit of "Gone Girl" and "Sharp Objects" author Gillian Flynn lately, don't worry: she's reportedly back in the screenwriting game, this time with a script that's set to become a Tim Burton movie, per Variety.
According to the outlet, Burton is set to direct a new version of "Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman" penned by Flynn, with Andrew Mittman and Tommy Harper producing and Kai Dolbashian on board as an EP. Mittman and Harper worked with Burton on Netflix's smash hit "Wednesday," and hopefully the unlikely director-screenwriter duo will bring new life to the story (which comes from the 1958 B-movie of the same name).
Apparently, it's unclear as of yet how much Burton and Flynn's "Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman" will follow its predecessor, but it's worth noting that the Nathan Hertz-directed original featured a literal 50-foot woman who was...

Comedian and actor Richard Belzer, who sadly died on Sunday at age 78, played detective John Munch on several series, including “Homicide: Life on the Street” and “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.” And on every single one of them, he had something wise and witty to say.
The character of John Munch was created on the underrated ’90s police drama “Homicide: Life on the Street.” Munch was known for his one-liners, metaphysical riffs and sprawling conspiracy theories while solving murders in Baltimore alongside detectives played by Andre Braugher, Daniel Baldwin and Ned Beatty. As he mused in one episode: “If a murder is committed in Baltimore and no homicide detective takes the call, did that homicide actually occur?”
He got a bit blue when the character moved over to “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” in 1999, where the topics were rape, assault and, sometimes, sexual dysfunction, but he was still the same Munch.

Richard Belzer, original cast member of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” has died at the age of 78, according to media reports. The cause of death is currently unknown.
“Richard Belzer was the first actor to welcome me when I started at ‘Svu,'” current “Svu” showrunner Warren Leight wrote. “Open, warm, acerbic, whip smart, surprisingly kind. I loved writing for Munch, and I loved being with Belz.”
Belzer was best known to fans of the long-running crime drama as NYPD Det. John Munch, a sardonic investigator whose dry wit was guided by the actor’s years of stand-up comedy experience. While Belzer was best known for playing Munch on “Law & Order: Svu” from 1999 to 2013, he had previously played the character for seven seasons on the NBC drama “Homicide: Life on the Street,” during which Munch was a homicide detective that served as a mentor to his younger partner Det.

We have some sad news to share today, as it has been confirmed that actor Pedro Miguel Arce has passed away at the much too young age of 46. Arce had over eighty screen acting credits to his name, but may be best known for playing the roles of Pillsbury in George A. Romero’s Land of the Dead and the character Felix in multiple episodes of the Guillermo del Toro series The Strain. It has been said that Arce passed away after “a brief battle with cancer”.
Here’s the message that was posted to Arce’s Instagram account: “It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the loss of our beloved Pedro Miguel Arce this afternoon, December 9. After a brief battle with cancer, Pedro passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. Thank you for your visits, cards, and support during this difficult time for Pedro and our family.

A new episode of our The Black Sheep video series was just released through the JoBlo Horror Originals YouTube channel, and with this one we’re looking back at director John Carpenter’s 1998 film Vampires (watch it Here). A movie that has its share of fans, but still doesn’t get as much respect as some of Carpenter’s earlier films. To hear why we think Vampires deserves more love, check out the video embedded above.
Scripted by Don Jakoby and inspired by the novel Vampire by John Steakley, Vampires has the following synopsis:
Ever since his parents were murdered by vampires, Jack Crow has had one purpose in life: putting stakes through bloodsuckers’ hearts. With his battle-hardened crew of vampire killers and the assistance of the Catholic Church, Crow roams the New Mexico desert looking for undead lairs to annihilate. One year after Alec Baldwin was involved in a tragic shooting on the set of Rust, the star says he has lost multiple acting opportunities, noting in an interview with CNN in August that five roles disappeared. Yet since the Oct. 21, 2021, death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, who died when Baldwin pulled the trigger of a prop gun that was not supposed to contain live rounds, the actor has maintained a steady stream of work not all that different from the low-budget fare he appeared in before Rust.
In part, he has benefactors involved in Rust to thank for his continued employment, with upcoming titles including the sleep-walking-centric False Awakening and 97 Minutes, his first acting gig after briefly retreating from film sets.
“You don’t abandon your good friends at the drop of any trouble,” 97 Minutes screenwriter Pavan Grover tells The Hollywood Reporter of continuing to work with Baldwin.

A violent gang of criminals is ordered, after a botched heist, to track down and eliminate the man who betrayed them and ran off with their loot. Daniels plays the “anti-hero,” while Mandylor plays the leader of the gang and Baldwin a man with mysterious motives.
Bring Him Back Dead, which also stars Daniel Baldwin and Gary Daniels, is out now on DVD and Digital in the US.

A wildly melodramatic (yet weirdly endearing) love story for and about a generation of young Americans who first have to survive their own government if they hope to spend the rest of their lives with someone else, “Purple Hearts” may unfold like a ludicrous mash-up between “The Oc” and “A Star Is Born” — this super-cheap Netflix Original is so determined to satisfy the algorithm that it would lack any coherent sense of self if not for the fact that it was chiefly designed as a star vehicle for Disney Channel grad Sofia Carson — but there’s something rather stubbornly honest about the heartbeat of desperation that thrums below its Walmart veneer.
; that “Purple Hearts” is able to pull that off for at least the first half of its overstuffed two-hour running time is all the more impressive because the whole thing is shot with the reality and panache of a prescription drug commercial.

"Where are the diamonds?!?!" Uncork'd Entertainment has revealed an official trailer for an action crime thriller titled Bring Him Back Dead, another of these direct-to-video junk movies they're whipping out all the time. A violent gang of criminals is ordered, after a botched heist, to track down and eliminate the man who betrayed them and ran off with their loot. Action veteran Gary Daniels stars as the "anti-hero" of the film, while Louis Mandylor plays the leader of the gang, and Daniel Baldwin a man with mysterious motives. The distributor tries to hype this up: "Non-stop action, three bonafide action legends, and Mark Savage at the helm? A must-see for action fans!" The cast also includes Katie Keene, Ryan M. Shaw, LeJon Woods, Zhuzha Akova, and Chris Torem. This looks absolutely terrible, but sometimes I think that's the point. Who watches these awful films anyway? It's not worth even a 0.99 rental price.

Alec Baldwin has found his next pair of acting projects on the heels of the shooting on the Albuquerque set of his Western Rust, Deadline has confirmed.
He will star alongside his brother Daniel Baldwin and Elva Trill in the live-action/animated Christmas family comedies Kid Santa and Billie’s Magic World, from Italian director Francesco Cinquemani, with production to take place in Rome. Both Baldwins will produce the titles from Minerva Pictures and Andrea Iervolino and Monica Bacardi’s Ilbe.
Alec Baldwin last collaborated with Cinquemani on the sci-fi pic Andron: The Black Labyrinth. His involvement with the director’s latest films reportedly preceded the Rust incident, which saw him discharge a prop gun, which killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, while injuring director Joel Souza.
Baldwin was also recently at work in the UK on 97 Minutes, a hijacking action-thriller from director Timo Vuorensola (Iron Sky), which has him starring alongside...

Alec Baldwin will be going back to work as an actor in Italy after the fatal “Rust” accident last October, according to two Italian production companies.
Italy’s Minerva Pictures and Andrea Iervolino and Monica Bacardi’s Ilbe have revealed that both Alec Baldwin and his brother Daniel Baldwin have been cast in two films they are jointly producing, and which will soon shoot in Rome.
Minerva chief Gianluca Curti said Baldwin will be arriving in Rome on Saturday. Daniel Baldwin is already in the Italian capital.
Baldwin’s representative did not immediately respond to a request for confirmation.

Alfred Sole, the prolific television production designer of Veronica Mars, Castle and MacGyver who had achieved cult-horror status with his 1976 film Alice, Sweet Alice featuring a 10-year-old Brooke Shields in a supporting role, died Feb. 14 at his home in Salt Lake City. He was 78.
His death was announced in a Facebook post by his cousin, filmmaker Dante Tomaselli. A cause of death was not specified.
Sole had already written and directed the 1972 sexually explicit, low-budget film Deep Sleep when several years later – and after the first film had been pulled from theaters on charges of obscenity – he turned to the horror genre. Originally titled Communion, Sole’s second movie premiered at the Chicago Film Festival in 1976 and was released by Allied Artists the following year as Alice, Sweet Alice, a name change disliked by Sole.

“Alec has no blame in this at all” said Daniel Baldwin today about his brother Alec Baldwin, who discharged a prop gun on the set of the western film Rust on Oct. 21, killing Dp Halyna Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza.
Daniel Baldwin’s comments were made today in an Instagram Live interview on The Domenick Nati Show.
Baldwin believes that his older brother is in the clear from any wrongdoing in the death of Hutchins due to the fact that he was informed by the film’s assistant director Dave Halls that the revolver being handed over was announced as a “cold gun”.
“Remember: The actor’s an idiot,” Baldwin told Nati. “They’re there to do the acting. A number of protocols that have been made known to the public and known in this case exonerate Alec of any responsibility at all.”

Crossbreed is a low budget sci-fi/horror action film about a group of oversized ex-soldiers on a mission to retrieve an alien cargo from a group of eeeeeevil mercenaries. It’s a film where men are men; they have big guns, and all the usual cliches apply. It’s a homage to every sci-fi/horror bang-bang film from the 80’s and 90’s and references everything from Predator and Robocop to Split Second and Timecop.
Soldier-turned-bar owner “Boss” Ryker, (played by the humorously named Stink Fisher) is sent on one last mission to pull together a squad of space marines and retrieve a stolen alien from some baddies with dodgy accents.

After spending the past few years roasting President Trump on Saturday Night Live, Alec Baldwin is getting a taste of his own medicine. The Comedy Central Roast of Alec Baldwin will be filmed this summer, TVLine has learned, and will assemble a yet-undecided group of A-listers — and Jeff Ross, probably — for an evening of good-natured ribbing.
“Getting roasted will be the greatest honor of my lifetime besides being a father, a husband, hosting SNL 17 times, receiving Golden Globes, Emmys, and working with Martin Scorsese,” Baldwin said in a statement.

As if having one of his films, Playing With Dolls, released in the UK as Leatherface wasn’t bad enough (though not his decision but rather the UK distributors), Rene Perez has gone all out with his latest movie, in “homaging” other exploitation films – in this case Charles Bronson and Death Wish – with Death Kiss. Perez’s latest film features Charles Bronson doppelganger Robert Bronzi (here billed as Robert Kovacs), who previously appeared in another Rene Perez film From Hell to the Wild West, as a vigilante with a mysterious past who goes to a crime-infested city and takes the law into his own hands, trying to rid the city of crime whilst at the same time protecting a young mother and her child.

Starring Vivica A. Fox as the President of the New United States of America and following a group of military veterans on a deadly mission in space, Crossbreed is coming to On Demand on February 5th from Uncork'd Entertainment. To celebrate the sci-fi action movie that pays tribute to Aliens and ’80s Cannon films, we caught up with director/co-writer Brandon Slagle for our latest Q&A feature, and we've also been provided with an exclusive clip to share with Daily Dead readers!
Thanks for taking the time to catch up with us, and congratulations on your new movie, Crossbreed! How and when did you and co-writer Robert Thompson come up with the idea for this film?

"Does this mean war, Madame President?!" Uncork'd Entertainment has released an official trailer for an indie sci-fi alien film titled Crossbreed, a low budget action thriller starring Vivica A. Fox as (highlighted by PR) the first black female president. The film is about an "alien bio-weapon" created inside a top secret facility orbiting Earth. A team of mercs are sent to retrieve it, until the weapon escapes, and starts wreaking havoc onboard the space station. The full cast includes Daniel Baldwin, Stink Fisher, Devanny Pinn, Antoine Lanier, John T. Woods, Mu-Shaka Benson, and Vernon Wells. It's described as "an action-packed throwback in the tradition of Aliens and Escape from New York" though it does not look anywhere near as good as either of those. Crossbreed is heading straight to VOD next month if you do want to see this. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Brandon Slagle's Crossbreed,...

Through five Death Wish movies spanning 20 years, Charles Bronson delivered a unique brand of justice to violent criminals who crossed (and sometimes ended) the paths of his family and friends. Although the iconic actor passed away back in 2003, Bronson's memory lives on in the new film Death Kiss, starring Robert Kovacs as a man who could be Paul Kersey's doppelgänger. With Death Kiss coming out on digital and VOD platforms on October 2nd from Uncork'd Entertainment, we've been provided with an exclusive clip from the film to share with Daily Dead readers!

I’ve got a ridiculous trailer here for you to watch today for a new vigilante action-thriller called Death Kiss. As you’ll see, it a Charles Bronson-style film and it comes complete with a Charles Bronson look-a-like! That actors name is Robert ‘Bronzi’ Kovacs, and he doesn’t do much talking in the trailer. It’s clear he’s just there to look like Bronson and kick some ass and I found it quite amusing.
The film follows a vigilante with a mysterious past who goes to a crime-infested city and takes the law into his own hands, at the same time protecting a young mother and her child. When talking about the film, producer Jeff Miller says:
“Rene’s movie is very cool and stylish. It feels like a throwback to the Cannon films of the ’80s. After an enthusiastic response at Texas Frightmare Weekend in May,...

Someone managed to get Detective Frank Pembleton back in the box.
Members of the cast and production team of the critically acclaimed NBC drama “Homicide: Life on the Street” came together at the Paley Center in New York to talk about the distinctive drama that flouted many of the conventions of network TV. The main focus of the show, which ran between 1993 and 1999, was on how Baltimore police detectives passed the time while trying to solve murders. But there were few car chases, shootings or dramatic arrest scenes. “Every episode was like an affront to network television,” noted Andre Braugher, who played Detective Pembleton on the program and came to wider fame while working on it.
Producer Barry Levinson, showrunner Tom Fontana, producers Julie Martin and Anya Epstein; cast members Richard Belzer, Braugher and Clark Johnson; and writer David Simon, whose book, “Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets,” became the inspiration for the program,...

Many actresses tried out for the iconic role of Lois Lane in 1978’s Superman, but of course, only one got the part: Margot Kidder.
In memory of her death earlier this week, The Telegraph took a look back at how the memorable character came to life in Richard Donner’s version of the superhero story. Ann Archer, Stockyard Channing, Deborah Raffin and Lesley Ann Warren all went up for the part, but director Donner liked Kidder’s chemistry with Christopher Reeve, who played Superman, best.
Kidder died Sunday at her Montana home at age 69. Her cause of death remains unknown.

So sad. Earlier this week, actor Verne Troyer — who is best known for his role as "Mini-Me" in the Austin Powers trilogy — died at just 49 years old. But now that an investigation is underway, more details about what led to his death have been revealed and alcohol had played a major part. Before he died on Saturday, April 21, Verne was in distress when he called 911 and he admitted that he had been experiencing suicidal thoughts, according to TMZ. After he was rushed to the hospital, doctors found that he had three times the .08 limit that is legal for driving a car. He became unresponsive so he was transferred to another hospital, but soon after his organs started failing. He was then placed on life support and he never recovered. Verne's team took to his official Instagram page to announce his death and to share a tribue to Verne's memory. "It...

Alec Baldwin has been dominating pop culture headlines for the last year thanks to his trumped up impression of America's current Commander-in-chief. On Sunday, the laughs came at the star's expense, as friends and former co-stars roasted the 59-year-old actor in the Spike TV special One Night Only: Alec Baldwin. Taped on stage last month at New York City's Apollo Theater, the show didn't have quite the same bite as the famed Comedy Central roasts.
