One of the most anticipated and hottest films of 2024 is finally here. We are talking about Zendaya‘s Challengers which was memed to death for a threesome scene that was shown in the trailer but if you have seen the film then you know that the brilliance of the film is much more than that one scene. Directed by Call Me By Your Name‘s Luca Guadagnino from a screenplay by Justin Kuritzkes, the sports romantic drama follows the story of a talented tennis player Tashi, and her twisted relationship with two tennis players, one of whom is her husband now. Challengers stars Zendaya, Mike Faist, and Josh O’Connor in the lead role with Jordan Thompson, Faith Fay, Hailey Gates, and Tierre Diaz starring in supporting roles. So, if you loved the story of ambition and toxic relationships in Challengers you should check out these films with similar themes next.

But, it isn’t easy being a middle aged action star. It’s been nearly thirty years since we last saw Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley, and in a recent interview with People Magazine he admitted that the shoot was a “rough one”.“I did Axel Foley when I was in my 20s. At any rate, Murphy won’t be the only aged actor from the original to show up, with many of the classic Beverly Hills Cop cast members are set to join him in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley. "The biggest lesson I learned from Axel – is to ignore the critics" Netflix has debuted an awkward comedy featurette to promote the upcoming release of the highly anticipated, long awaited sequel Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. It's set to debut streaming on Netflix this July. This promo has NFL division championship-winning Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff in it. He shares lessons he learned from Axel Foley which helped him adjust to the city (of Detroit) after his transfer from the Los Angeles Rams. This sequel picks up where things left off with Axel Foley (from the last movie in 1994) returning to the beat in California. When his daughter is threatened, he is drawn back to Beverly Hills to investigate the untimely demise of a long-time confidant. Since 1980, horror and sci fi fans have loved being scared by the Xenomorph and the soulless Weyland-Yutani corporation that wants to study it. Nearly everyone has controversial takes on various films in the franchise: "Prometheus" and Assembly Cut "Alien 3" fans, rise up. "Alien: Covenant" fans, look... we respect you, but that movie makes it tough. But no matter where you land, we're all in love with Ridley Scott's original "Alien." It's a love that's seen high school performances turn into breakout hits, and April 26th (chosen for the Lv-426 colony in "Aliens") become a fandom holiday.
We're always looking for more to explore from the franchise, although sometimes that desire turns into a be-careful-what-you-wish-for "Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem" situation. Despite the valleys of the "Alien" franchise, we're still hoping for the best from the upcoming "Alien: Romulus" and Noah Hawley's forthcoming TV series from FX. Meanwhile, we...

Directors are lining up left and right each month to share their favorite films from the TCM lineup, and the latest is Jason Reitman. He follows Steven Spielberg going deep on “Meet Me in St. Louis,” Martin Scorsese praising “Madonna of the Seven Moons,” Guillermo del Toro making the case why overlooked “Suspicion” is top-tier Hitchcock, and so many more.
IndieWire simply loves directors sharing their favorite films and paying tribute to the directors and screenwriters behind them. And that enthusiasm comes across loud and clear in “SNL 1975” director Reitman’s picks. First up, Reitman, whose always had an ear for dialogue himself, talks about what’s so great about the patter in Barry Levinson’s “Diner.”

AlleyCatz, an unassuming bowling alley in a fictional California town, isn’t compelling to passersby or potential customers from the outside. The venue run by Mozell (Sister Sister’s Jackée Harry) has a drab brick exterior, a monument to the sad architecture of suburban shopping centers. It doesn’t offer much when you walk inside either. The lanes need waxing, the bar requires tending and the equipment is in various stages of disrepair. Some people might take one look at AlleyCatz and run, but Walt (Shameik Moore), the silly protagonist of Yassir and Isaiah Lester’s boisterous directorial debut The Gutter, doesn’t have a choice. He needs a job.
The young man, who prefers to live life without a shirt, has been fired from more gigs than he can count. In a particularly amusing early sequence, Walt recounts his shoddy employment history to Mozell, whose face becomes increasingly disturbed with each revelation.

After being delayed several months by the writers strike and the actors strike, season 5 of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things finally went into production at the start of the year – and it’s going to continue making its way through production for quite a while longer, as new cast member Linda Hamilton has said that filming is going to take an entire year. So we’re not going to see this season, which is the final season of the show, until sometime in 2025… and star Millie Bobby Brown is looking forward to the premiere date with excitement, because she says the final episodes are going to be “unbelievable.”
Speaking with Screen Rant, Brown said, “There’s not much I can tease, but I know everybody’s super excited. I just think if you’ve loved the seasons before, you trust the Duffers. They’re geniuses, and they’ll bring it like no other.

“Don’t presume you know everything.” For decades, that was actor Paul Reiser’s response whenever people would ask him about playing Burke, the Weyland-Yutani middle-manager who tried to kill the heroes of Aliens to please his bosses.
Since the release of the James Cameron classic in 1986, viewers have taken Ripley’s summation of the situation to heart. “You know, Burke, I don’t know which species is worse,” she tells him after escaping from a trap he set to infect her and the child Newt with a Xenomorph. “You don’t see them fucking each other over for a goddamn percentage.”
And yet, almost 40 years later, Reiser still insists that Burke isn’t the villain he seems. When Den of Geek catches up with the actor and comedian, he shares his rejoinder to those who called Burke a bad guy. “You say ‘bad,’ I say ‘misunderstood.'” In a...

While speaking to Business Insider, Hamilton said Stranger Things season 5 will be filming for an entire year!
Hamilton said, “It’s a year of shooting, so I couldn’t be happier. Their season takes a year to shoot, which is just an unheard-of luxury of time. But the size of their day is also so beyond any scale that we’re used to.“

When it was announced that Linda Hamilton would be joining Stranger Things for its fifth and final season, it felt like a perfect addition to the cast, as she was a favorite presence in the 1980s, when the series is set. She, too, is a fan of the Netflix show…and that’s precisely why she won’t watch the season she’ll be featured in.
Speaking with Us Weekly, Linda Hamilton said that being cast in Stranger Things will interfere with her appreciation of the show, adding that she won’t be able to finish it like the rest of its fans. “When you really buy into something, you don’t see yourself in it. So I think in a way, it kind of ruined the show for me. I never watch [a project], once I’m in something…It would just completely take me out of the reality of it to see myself in there.

Marvel Comics has been publishing issues of their anthology series What If…? – which takes familiar scenarios from their comics and explores what might have happened if things had played out differently or if characters had taken different paths in life – since 1977. Now the series, which has included such titles as “What If Spider-Man Had Joined the Fantastic Four?”, “What If Thor of Asgard Had Met Conan the Barbarian?”, and “What If The Punisher’s Family Had Not Been Killed?”, is being infiltrated by the Alien franchise. Shecky Greene, the legendary Las Vegas headliner and stand-up comedian who entertained audiences for years while battling demons that included stage fright, alcoholism, prescription-drug abuse and gambling, died Sunday. He was 97.
Greene died on New Year’s Eve of natural causes at his home in Las Vegas, his wife of 41 years, Marie Musso Greene, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
He also was known for his dozens of appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, where he served as an occasional guest host.
Greene’s garrulous act in the 1950s and ‘60s helped transform the hotel lounge into another place for patrons to be entertained, turning Vegas into a 24-hour party town. His specialty was improvisation, and he could take virtually any situation and make it funny.

Eddie Murphy is returning to the Beverly Hills Cop universe and reprising his role of Axel Foley in a fourth installment of the franchise.
Ahead of the 40th anniversary of the release of the 1984 film, Murphy returns to play Foley and is opening up about the difficulties of getting back into the action sequences.
“It was a hard one,” Murphy told People in an interview. “I did Axel Foley when I was in my 20s. I am not in my 20s anymore. It was an action movie. So it was a rough one. But we got through it.”
The action comedy directed by Martin Brest centers on Axel Foley, a Detroit detective who travels to Beverly Hills, California to solve the murder of his best friend.

Once upon a time, Hollywood studios made original movies. Lots of them. Granted, "original" is a relative term when we're talking about this industry. Studios have always hedged their bets by relying on popular genres or recycling tried-and-true formulas. When a film went into production, moguls and executives were hoping for a healthy return on their investment, while stars generally tried their damnedest not to alienate their fans while avoiding the perils of typecasting. Once the film wrapped, it was on to the next one — and the next one was rarely a sequel.
This business model changed drastically in the 1970s when films like "The Godfather," "The Exorcist" and "Love Story" became wildly profitable cultural phenomena. When the studios realized people were lining up to see these movies again and again like they were amusement park rides, they reasoned that the safest course of action would be to continue the...

It has been nearly 30 years since Beverly Hills Cop III and the 62-year-old actor and comedian is back as Axel Foley for the upcoming fourth installment, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, which will be debuting on Netflix.
“Eddie‘s such an incredible artist. He can do drama, he can do comedy – he can do anything. And he’s the same Axel Foley. He’s still on the streets. He’s still doing what he does. Two Saturday Night Live legends, Pete Davidson and Eddie Murphy, are joining forces for The Pickup, an upcoming comedy directed by Tim Story. The project hails from Amazon MGM Studios, with plot details remaining a mystery. Smoke on the street says The Pickup is a heist comedy with a script by Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows.
In addition to his directorial duties, Story produces through his The Story Company banner, with Davis Entertainment’s John Davis and John Fox, and Murphy and Charisse Hewitt-Webster via Eddie Murphy Productions. The Story Company’s Vicky Mara Story, Davis Entertainment’s Jeremy Stein, and Kevin Burrows, Ross Fanger, and Matt Mider executive produce.
When he’s not the subject of paparazzi fodder or changing dating partners like fresh pairs of underwear, Davidson appears in films like Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, Fast X, Dumb Money, and Good Burger 2. He recently completed his role for The Home.

One cannot understate the impact Martin Brest's crime comedy "Beverly Hills Cop" had on popular culture when it was released in 1984. Between "Cop," the 1983 comedy "Trading Places," and Walter Hill's 1982 buddy film "48 Hrs.," Eddie Murphy was suddenly one of the largest and most striking movie stars in the world. His glib delivery and willingness to be crass rattled cinemas to an astonishing degree, and audiences began flocking to see Murphy in just about anything. Brest's film was made for a mere $13 million and would rack up about $316 million worldwide. It was also nominated for Best Original Screenplay at the Academy Awards.

Michael McDonald has announced a new memoir co-written by actor Paul Reiser. Titled What a Fool Believes: A Memoir, it’s slated for release on May 21st, 2024 via Dey Street Books.
According to a press release, What a Fool Believes is “interwoven with unforgettable tales from his storied career and a cast of music greats” including James Taylor, Ray Charles, Carly Simon, and Quincy Jones. The memoir also finds the Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan member “reckoning with the unshakeable insecurities that drove him and the highs and lows of fame and popularity.” Pre-orders are ongoing.
McDonald and Reiser met at a party several years ago, where McDonald learned of Reiser’s love of music — particularly the piano. They began working on the memoir in the spring of 2020 after Reiser “sort of made a joke,” as he explained to People magazine.

Netflix posted the first photo (below) of Eddie Murphy’s long-awaited return as Axel Foley in the fourth Beverly Hills Cop.
The first look shows Murphy’s character emerging with his hands up from what looks like a tipped over parking enforcement cart while wearing his trademark Detroit Lions jacket. The project is the first Beverly Hills Cop movie in 29 years, since the release of the lackluster Beverly Hills Cop 3.
The Netflix sequel — titled Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley — also reunites Murphy with franchise co-stars Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser and Bronson Pinchot.
