Rita McKenzie, the actress and singer best known for her boisterous performances in the one-woman show Ethel Merman’s Broadway, died Saturday in Los Angeles after a long illness, her husband, talent agent Scott Stander, announced. She was 76.
McKenzie first starred on stage as the powerful Merman — star of such iconic Broadway hits as Anything Goes, Annie Get Your Gun, Gypsy and Hello, Dolly! — in New York in 1988.
Belting out tunes like “There’s No Business Like Show Business,” “I Got Rhythm” and “Everything’s Coming Up Roses,” McKenzie toured throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia in what many consider the longest-running one-woman show in theatrical history.
She also starred in parts that Merman made famous: Reno Sweeney in Anything Goes!, the gunslinger in a 50th anniversary tour of Annie Get Your Gun and Rose in Gypsy.

Dancing with the Stars‘ competitor Barry Williams is one of the most beloved classic television celebrities. For those who grew up in the 1970s and beyond, his work on The Brady Bunch remains must-see TV for its wholesome portrayal of a blended American family. However, he may hold a different distinction within his fictional television clan: is Barry the oldest living member of the original Brady Bunch cast?
Barry Williams played the oldest Brady brother, Greg, on ‘The Brady Bunch’
Barry Williams’ role as Greg Brady on The Brady Bunch instantly made him one of TV’s most recognizable faces. Alongside co-stars Robert Reed, Florence Henderson, Ann B. Anyone who grew up in the 1970s can tell you the story of a lovely lady, who was bringing up three very lovely girls, and a man named Brady, who was busy with three boys of his own. Of course, one day, the lady met this fellow, and the rest is TV history. When Carol Martin (Florence Henderson) married Mike Brady (Robert Reed), all six of their children came together, along with their trusty maid Alice (Ann B. Davis), to become the sitcom family known as "The Brady Bunch."
"The Brady Bunch" is one of the most beloved and memorable sitcoms of all time. The adolescent antics of Greg (Barry Williams), Peter (Christopher McKnight), Bobby (Mike Lookinland), Marcia (Maureen McCormick), Jan (Eve Plumb), and Cindy (Susan Olsen) made for plenty of comedy and drama as the bunch dealt with the trials and tribulations of a blended family, sibling rivalries, growing up,...

Dancing with the Stars viewers are calling foul on judges Carrie Ann Inaba, head judge Derek Hough, and Bruno Tonioli. They claim the trio was “underscoring” beloved TV star Barry Williams after a lively Cha Cha for Latin Night. Fans believe “they did him dirty” by giving the entertainer scores that placed him toward the bottom of the leaderboard.
Fans believe judges were ‘underscoring’ Barry Williams’ on his challenging Cha Cha
Dancing with the Stars Season 32 cast member Barry Williams entered week two of DWTS facing a challenging Cha Cha for Latin Night. Peta Murgatroyd trained Williams in the dance, incorporating small, quick steps rather than long glides across the dance floor.
In a video package accompanying William’s Cha Cha, Peta Murgatroyd and other competing couples celebrated Williams’ 69th birthday in a DWTS rehearsal room. The former Brady Bunch star admitted a great birthday gift would be high scores from the judges.

“The Marvelous Mrs Maisel” is coming to an end as its fifth and final season streams on Amazon Prime Video. The successful comedy, which has bagged 20 Emmys to date including a Best Comedy Series win in 2018, follows Rachel Brosnahan‘s titular Miriam “Midge” Maisel who, after her husband leaves, pursues a career in stand-up comedy. A key character in this pursuit is Alex Borstein‘s Susie Myerson, who runs the Gaslight Café, where Midge first begins her stand-up career.
As Susie, Borstein delivers a no-holds-barred performance as she creates an unorthodox, straight-talking, hilarious character who becomes Midges’ manager later in the series. Critics think she is deserving of another Emmy nomination for this fifth and final season of “The Marvelous Mrs Maisel.” Among those singing her praises:
Kevin Fallon (The Daily Beast) wrote: “Alex Borstein, who has won two deserved Emmy Awards for her performance as Susie, gives a tour de force this season—which,...

Judging by Gold Derby’s combined odds, Alex Borstein seems destined to make a triple play this year, thanks to her performance as Susie Myerson, the scathingly uncensored and tomboyish sidekick and manager of Rachel Brosnahan‘s stand-up comic Midge on Amazon’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” If the actress — who also has a Emmy for voicing Lois Griffin on the animated series “Family Guy” — goes 3-for-3, she will be the fifth supporting funny lady to do so. The members of this club are sitcom legends Valerie Harper (“The Mary Tyler Moore Show”), Rhea Perlman (“Cheers”), Laurie Metcalf (“Roseanne”) and Doris Roberts (“Everybody Loves Raymond”). Not bad company at all.
Right now, Borstein is way ahead of her closest competition, Annie Murphy of “Schitt’s Creek,” among users of Gold Derby’s prediction site. She boasts 1146 backers and 9/2 odds while Murphy has 423 total votes and 5/1 odds.

“And that’s the way we remade the Brady House…” chimes the theme song of “A Very Brady Renovation,” the upcoming Hgtv series that follows the recreation of the classic TV set inside the L.A. property which served as the home’s on-camera exterior.
It’s just the latest stop as the nostalgia train keeps on, keeps on, keeps on moving long after “The Brady Bunch” wrapped up its initial five-season run in 1974. The series has spawned spin-off shows, movies, albums, a variety hour and a cartoon, not to mention the millions of dollars of merchandise sold around the series. But this latest update proves far superior to any “Brady Bunch” lunch box.
“This has been a special one because we didn’t have to play Bobby and Cindy — we could be ourselves. And it’s the 50th anniversary [of the premiere],” “Brady Bunch” actor Mike Lookinland explained to reporters at the...

The beloved Brady 6 are back together after more than 15 years thanks to Hgtv’s four-part series, A Very Brady Renovation. During the show’s presentation at the TCA press tour at the Beverly Hilton, The Brady Bunch alums Barry Williams (Greg), Maureen McCormick (Marcia), Christopher Knight (Peter), Eve Plumb (Jan), Mike Lookinland (Bobby) and Susan Olsen (Cindy) convened onstage to dish on the reunion.
Through the years, there have been a number of Brady revivals and reunions that have involved some of the original cast members, but for this one, it was important that everyone was involved.
“There are so many elements that had to come together to make this thing work. It’s almost unfathomable,” Williams said. “I love these people. We’ve had great relationships our entire lives but not all together at the same time. It was crucial to have every single person on this stage in that show.

The kids from The Brady Bunch held a family reunion of sorts in Los Angeles to kick off an HGTV series that will follow a full overhaul of the house used in the sitcom’s exterior shots. Check out a closeup of their photo below.
Barry Williams (who played Greg Brady), Maureen McCormick (Marcia), Christopher Knight (Peter), Eve Plumb (Jan), Mike Lookinland (Bobby) and Susan Olsen (Cindy) gathered at the iconic home in Studio City to help launch A Very Brady Renovation, the working title for a stand-alone series that HGTV is scheduled will air in September. It was the sextet’s first gathering in nearly 15 years.
The show will follow “a ‘70s-inspired rehab” of the house where the blended families of Mike and Carol Brady (Robert Reed and Florence Henderson) lived with their housekeeper Alice (Ann B. Davis) in the 1969-74 ABC series whose popularity exploded in off-net syndication.

The Brady Bunch's Carol Brady may be one of the most iconic mothers of all time, but it turns out star Florence Henderson was just as much a loving mom off screen as the famously blended family's matriarch was on.
"We spent so many hours together with the kids, and I sort of became like a second mother to them," Henderson told People Friday on the set of Breaking Bread with Brooke Burke. "I treated them with respect. They were treated as pros and they came prepared."
She added, "I was the only person on the show that was a mother in real life.

Beloved sitcom actress Ann B. Davis, who passed away Sunday at age 88, was perhaps best known by modern audiences for her iconic role as Alice the housekeeper on '70s series "The Brady Bunch." But Davis had a stellar career long before she ever donned a maid's uniform, and it turns out that one of the actress's earliest roles made a huge impact on a current pop culture icon.
Davis gained acclaim for her performance as secretary Charmaine "Schultzy" Schultz on "The Bob Cummings Show," earning four Emmy nominations -- and nabbing two statuettes -- for Best Supporting Actress from 1955 to 1959. The character was universally popular, and even helped Davis get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, well before she joined the Bradys.

MSNBC aired an image of Henriette Mantel, who played Alice in The Brady Bunch Movie. After returning from a commercial break, the cable network immediately corrected its mistake, showing a photo of Davis. Host Chris Jansing apologized for the error. "And there’s the Ann B. Ann B. Davis, the actress who brought to life beloved housekeeper Alice on "The Brady Bunch," and who died this weekend at age 88, has inspired numerous fond remembrances since news of her passing was first announced.
One of the most touching tributes to the late actress comes from another Alice: Henriette Mantel, the woman who donned the character's iconic blue uniform in 1995's "The Brady Bunch Movie" and its 1996 follow-up, "A Very Brady Sequel."
In an essay for Yahoo! Movies, Mantel wrote that she was at first stunned to see her own photo accompanying some of Davis' obituaries, then angered that anyone would confuse her with such an acting legend. ("Have you no respect for Brady fans all over the world?" Mantel recalled thinking when she discovered the mix-up.)
Mantel then detailed the day she met Davis, on the set of the first "Brady" movie, in which Davis had a small cameo.

Ann B. Davis, Alice of The Brady Bunch, died yesterday. While some might look at her age of 88 and dismiss her passing as a life well traveled, I can’t help but picture the vibrant maid named Alice who spent five TV years keeping the Brady family in line. The legacy of The Brady Bunch has defied logic for the past 40 years. The show was never a hit when it ran on ABC from 1969-1974. In fact, it never even climbed into the Top 30 when was airing original episodes; but when it hit syndication in 1975, it developed a loyal following … Continue reading →

Here's to you, Alice. Ann B. Davis, who will always be known as The Brady Bunch housekeeper Alice Nelson, passed away at the age of 88. Davis was already a TV star and Emmy winner before joining the beloved sitcom, and as Alice she became as much America's mother as Carol Brady (Florence Henderson). Davis got her start in the 1950s on The Bob Cummings Show—she won two Emmys for playing Charmine Schultz on the series—before hitting the big screen and doing several guest star parts. In 1969 The Brady Bunch debuted and the rest, well, it's TV history. Davis went on to play Alice Nelson in four different decades, reprising the role for projects such as The Brady Bunch Variety Hour, The Brady Brides, The...
