Saturday Night Live wasn’t all laughs. During a Tuesday visit to The Tonight Show, Maya Rudolph and host Jimmy Fallon recalled a special moment at the read-through table.
Rudolph recalled pitching a heartfelt tribute to Ferrell during his last read-through in 2002. It never made it onto the air, but it lives on in the memories of those who were there.
“Do you remember Will’s last read-through, when you did Poetry Man and we were all just crying?” Fallon asked Rudolph.
“At the last table read, you write stuff that you know isn’t going to make it on the show, but you just do it to send off the person that you love,” Rudolph explained to the audience. “We did, it was like a parody of the Phoebe Snow song [Poetry Man], but I made it: ‘You’re the comedy man/You make everything alright.’”

Across nine seasons, NBC's The Office told dozens of hilarious and heartwarming stories. Unlike many sitcoms preceding it, the mockumentary managed to sustain narratives over several episodes, not always tying up conflicts before the credits rolled. For the most part, this was a fruitful approach, as it allowed characters to endure consequences, feel emotions, and grow beyond the constraints of a 30-minute block. However, not all storylines on The Office were prolific. Will Ferrell's brief run as Deangelo Vickers, the Schrute Farms spin-off attempt, and Andy Bernard's (Ed Helms) slow fall from grace are just a few arcs that fans look back upon with disapproval. The most ill-fated of them all, though, came in Season 9, with a storyline and character introduction that put much of the series into question.

Jimmy Fallon and Maya Rudolph Reminisce on Will Ferrell’s Various ‘SNL’ Behind-the-Scenes Alter Egos
Maya Rudolph reunited with her former Saturday Night Live castmate Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show Tuesday night, where they reminisced over co-star Will Ferrell’s behind-the-scenes antics at Studio 8H.
Fallon asked Rudolph if she remembered a character that the Anchorman star created on set.
“Are you talking about Chip Kudrow or Ron?” interrupted Rudolph.
The host noted that the character he was thinking of was Chip Kudrow, a persona that Ferrell used for an ongoing bit, where he pretended to be Lisa Kudrow’s brother.
Rudolph explained, “Will Ferrell had a character named Chip Kudrow who would just show up at our pitch meetings.”
It’s clear that Ferrell had various alter egos on set, as Fallon asked Rudolph if Chip was the one who wore a referee shirt or overalls. This prompted Fallon to mention another one of the Barbie star’s characters, named Ron.

Duchovny's cameo in Zoolander was a highlight of the film, showing his versatility outside of X-Files. Stiller gave Duchovny his choice of parts, showcasing the actor's talent and clout in the industry. Duchovny's commitment to his Zoolander role impressed co-stars, highlighting his dedication to the character.
David Duchovny's Zoolander scene is a particular highlight of the film, which is saying a lot considering Zoolander is packed with star-studded cameos. Released in 2001, the Ben Stiller-directed comedy film is a zany satire of the fashion industry and stars Stiller as the successful yet vapid male model, Derek Zoolander. Derek finds himself prey to evil fashion designer Jacobim Mugatu (Will Ferrell), who brainwashes him to carry out an assassination. The movie's success saw the 2016 release of Zoolander 2, though the sequel didn't come close to capturing the magic of the first film.

Earlier this week, we all experienced the first day of spring 2024. We're now fully in the season of rejuvenation, of tossing out the old and bringing in the new, and literally nothing -- not the most intense spring cleaning session, or even the most spectacular miracles of nature itself -- better represents that than the churn of films and TV shows leaving the Netflix streaming service as its rotating library is partially shaken out and replenished with a fresh round of titles.
We know what movies and shows are arriving in April, but what about the projects that are getting the boot and being scattered into the digital ether, potentially disappearing for a while or perhaps popping up on some other streaming service altogether? Thankfully, we have that information at our fingertips as well. And with just a few days left in the month, consider this a ticking clock reminder...

Saturday Night Live is one of the most iconic sketch-comedy television shows of all time, currently in its 49th season. SNL has launched the careers of some of the most famous and acclaimed comedy actors, like Eddie Murphy, Will Ferrell, and Tina Fey. The upcoming SNL 1975 film will follow the beginnings of the sketch comedy show and the SNL cast who made Saturday Night Live a success and helped launch the careers of so many iconic actors. Some of these actors have gone on to star in some top-rated movies, including Elf, Shrek, and Mean Girls. Others have starred in beloved sitcoms like Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Ted Lasso.
Due to the live format of SNL, cast members must be quick-witted and think fast on their feet to survive any possible accident or mishap. Saturday Night Live's actors must also have excellent comedic timing, sometimes making up for atrocious guest hosts.

Music industry parodies are a tricky comedy subgenre to get right but can become cult classics with enduring support. The best music parody movies blend absurd comedy, genuine characters, catchy songs, and particular aim at artists/genres. This Is Spinal Tap!, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, and Popstar: Never Stop never Stopping are among the top music parody movies that offer good music and solid laughs.

Hollywood faces a significant imbalance when it comes to its stars. There are some actors like Adam Sandler who can’t separate the profession from real life and cast his friends and family as characters in movies. Behind-the-scenes, Baldur's Gate 3 characters strike awkward poses for their in-game portraits, despite their confident warrior personas. An out-of-bounds area reveals how character portraits are framed, with some models posing awkwardly for their photo. Baldur's Gate 3's success at 2023 Game Awards showcases the RPG as one of the best ever made.
Baldur's Gate 3 might want players to think its cast of adventures are all cool, calm, and collected but peeking into a behind-the-scenes area suggests that the party members are actually rather awkward. As players travel across the vast Forgotten Realms, they'll come across several opportunities to expand their ranks with additional characters to make the story more interesting and combat a touch easier. Most of them are presented as confident warriors, trained in their respective disiciplines but when it comes to snapping a photo, they all just look a little embarrassing.

A fan discovered a hilarious connection between Baldur's Gate 3 and actor Will Ferrell's Megamind character. The voice actor for Astarion delivers a line similar to Megamind, sparking speculation among fans. Baldur's Gate 3 is praised for its Easter eggs and writing, dominating the 2023 Game Awards.
There might not be a great deal of overlap between Baldur's Gate 3 and actor Will Ferrell but one fan of the two discovered a hilarious connection between the two. Larian Studios' acclaimed role-playing game has earned plenty of praise for its voice acting talent with Neil Newbon, the actor who plays the silver-tongued vampire Astarion, even earning the award for Best Performance at the 2023 Game Awards. It should come as little surprise then that one of his best lines is an almost perfect impersonation of an iconic animated character voiced by Ferrell: Megamind.

To know Michael Kassan is to know the people in his Rolodex. At least, that’s the promise.
The Madison Avenue impresario, who once ran a media-buying operation and parlayed his experience there into a role as the ultimate go-between among ad agencies, big-spending clients and the media outlets that crave them, finds himself — at least for now — without a base of operations.
In an explosive arbitration filing that surfaced Tuesday, Kassan alleged UTA, which snatched up his marketing consultancy, MediaLink, for $125 million in late 2021, had undermined the business since his arrival. Executives including UTA CEO Jeremy Zimmer and the newly-christened New York chief Julian Jacobs “secretly concocted a scheme,” Kassan’s attorneys alleged, that siloed off MediaLink from the rest of UTA’s business with advertisers and marketers, then pressured Kassan to cut costs and raise fees on existing clients. “After two long years of Kassan battling Zimmer’s repeated broken promises,...

Megamind 2 was released on Peacock with little promotion and has been far from a hit. Fans slammed the sequel for its lower budget, replacement voice actors, and weak storyline, with a 0% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. DreamWorks missed the opportunity to turn Megamind into a successful franchise like Shrek or Kung Fu Panda.
DreamWorks Animation has produced some iconic animated films over the last twenty years. The Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, and How to Train Your Dragon franchises are among the most recognizable properties in modern animation. They have also produced countless successful one-off movies, with 2010's Megamind as a prime example.
The Will Ferrell-starring flick followed the titular supervillain in his attempt to create a more powerful hero to fight. While it was a critical success, it didn't perform so well at the box office, grossing only $322 million on a $130 million budget, one of DreamWorks' lowest-grossing films of the 2010s.

Tow is Demi Lovato’s first dramatic role in a feature film. Rose Byrne and The Holdovers breakout Dominic Sessa join Lovato for the project, which is based on a true story. Will Ferrell's Ron Burgundy wears a light suit in a piece of Anchorman and Tron crossover art. Anchorman features moments of absurdist humor that could make a Tron crossover possible. A crossover between the two properties is highly unlikely to ever actually happen.
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy's eponymous character enters the world of Tron is a bizarre piece of crossover art. Released in 2004, Anchorman remains one of Will Ferrell's most memorable films, with the comedic actor taking on the role of Ron Burgundy, an eccentric newscaster. The movie and its 2013 sequel both adopt an absurdist tone, but neither one strays into the realm of science fiction.
In a new piece of crossover art by Roger Hendrix, Anchorman crosses over with the world of 1982's Tron for a new movie simply dubbed "Ron". Check out the art below:

Jeopardy!‘s Tournament of Champions is bigger than ever this year.
To celebrate its 40th season, the American trivia institution invited a record-breaking 27 contestants to its hallowed annual tourney featuring the previous season’s best champions. (It also certainly didn’t hurt that the show needed to add some extra tournaments for ToC eligibility due to the Hollywood writers strike messing with its usual production schedule).
The expanded contestant count has given Jeopardy! the opportunity to invite back some intriguing contenders who didn’t hit the required benchmark of at least five wins in their initial run. It’s also meant that the show has gotten to try something it’s never done before: bring on a Celebrity Jeopardy! champion to contend with the “real” trivia masters.

Typically, saying you're more excited about something other than the new Lady Gaga project is fair grounds for having your queer card taken away, but an exception can be made in the case of "The People's Joker." Indeed, as intrigued as I am to watch Gaga's Harley Quinn sing and dance her way through a toxic romance with Joaquin Phoenix's Clown Prince of Crime in Todd Phillips' "Joker: Folie à Deux" (a sentence I couldn't have imagined writing after watching Phillips' original Scorsesean DC drama for the first time back in 2019), it's Vera Drew's trans-coming-of-age DC Comics superhero parody that has my current attention.
Drew, similar to her fellow trans comedienne Harper Steele (the subject of Will Ferrell's acclaimed upcoming Netflix documentary "Will & Harper"), has quietly worked on some of the more memorable and daring comedic offerings of the past decade. In addition to editing Scott Aukerman...

While any time is a good time to watch a comedy, springtime and laughs can go hand-in-hand. With warmer weather (and summer blockbusters) around the corner, spend your March with Netflix’s best comedy movies.
‘Beverly Hills Ninja’ Coming to Netflix March 1
Celebrate comedy legend Chris Farley by streaming Beverly Hills Ninja on Netflix beginning March 1. The 1997 martial arts comedy marks the final film released during Farley’s lifetime, as the actor died less than a year after its release.
Farley stars as Haru, adopted as a child by a clan of ninjas who believe he’ll become the master promised in legends. As expected, Haru never entirely becomes a ninja despite his best efforts.

Considered by many to have been ahead of its time, the animated superhero comedy Megamind premiered in 2010 packed full of high-profile talents from Brad Pitt to Will Ferrell. Alas, although the movie received positive critical praise, especially thanks to the voice work of its Hollywood stars, it became one of DreamWorks' worst box office ventures of the decade, only just doubling its $130 million budget, with the attempts to turn the movie into a franchise with video games and a subsequent 2011 short film failing to impress.
