We close out another week of Halloween Night short films with director Marichelle Daywalt's "The Afterparty."
"My office is across the street from Grauman's Chinese Theatre - a Hollywood landmark," Daywalt recounts. "When Styd approached me about doing a short set on Halloween night, I jumped at the chance to shoot something with my husband behind the camera. And having an iconic backdrop like the Chinese was icing on the cake for both of us. We were like kids in a candy store!"
Head inside and experience "The Afterparty" now. For previous short films in our exclusive series, click here. And tune in next week for our final entries!

Over the past year the Jumpcut café has become the premier venue for independent horror in Los Angeles. Where else can you see, without much fanfare, premier screenings of shorts by luminaries such as Drew Daywalt and Rebekah McKendry, shorts that are so new that they don't even have IMDb pages yet?
Witches Brew, directed by Rebekah McKendry, is an ultra short, hilarious and adorable Halloween film. Children's horror is a difficult thing to pull off, because there has to be a perfect balance of childlike wonder and horror or the thing won't work. In Witches Brew McKendry successfully utilizes the naiveté of childhood to create something both cute and scary. I should also add that Actress Jessica Cameron gives the most appealing performance of her career so far.

We're co-running the Viscera Film Festival, showing the best new short horror films directed by women, just like we did last year. Here's our 2011 lineup.
It's been pretty cut-throat. Out of over 80 submissions, we struggled and wept and co-director Shannon Lark and I beat each other up over what our final lineup would be. In the end, we decided, only the best of the best could play, so we counted and recounted our judges tallies and agreed that again we'd show way too many films and have our fest run way too long.
These films are just too good to not screen. We couldn't eliminate any of them. I have to be honest: I love every film on this list. We're got some Us premieres that we're especially excited about! The 2011 Viscera Film Festival Films are:
The Party’S Over by Gigi Romero
Bon Apetit by Kate Shenton

It wouldn't be appropriate for us to allow Easter to pass without posting one of the great horror shorts in regards to the holiday.
Released a few years ago, this creepy little gem from directors Drew Daywalt and David Schneider titled "The Easter Bunny is Eating My Candy" still holds quite a charm.
This one certainly isn't a child film nor is it for the squeamish. The film stars the adorable Abigail Daywalt as the concerned little girl, Marichelle Daywalt as the unconcerned sleeping mother and John Grye (we assume as the Easter Bunny).
Check out the short below and best Easter wishes to all our horror friends! Enjoy.

At least I think so, anyway. Directed by Marichelle Daywalt and written by Drew Daywalt, the prolific company’s latest horror-tinged short film “The Many Doors of Albert Whale” is exceptionally unnerving, and that’s saying a lot coming from someone who wastes a hell of a lot of time watching genre flicks. The film, which stars Kit Williamson and the lovely Tara Cardinal, suggests that demons don’t like being messed around with. Who knew, right? You’ll see what I mean in just a second. Many thanks to Ms. Cardinal for the heads up.

Why Watch? Because sometimes it only takes a minute to be scared to death. A father sits at his computer listening to the soothing sounds of his young child on a baby monitor. In the tightest storytelling possible, it goes from sweet to shattering in a short that has to be seen instead of read about. What Will It Cost? Less than 2 minutes of your time. Does it get better any better than that? Check out Mockingbird for yourself: Mockingbird (2010) Directed By: Marichelle Daywalt Written By: Drew Daywalt Starring: Stefanie Ford and Don Jeffcoat Trust us. You have time for more short films.
