The stars of Criminal Minds are very versatile. When they aren’t profiling serial killers on-screen, many of them are behind the cameras, directing their fellow cast members. Over the years, Criminal Minds has aired more than 30 episodes directed by cast members. That includes Matthew Gray Gubler, A.J. Cook, Joe Mantegna, and more. Here’s a complete list of episodes directed by the stars.

Adam Rodriguez joined the cast of Criminal Minds as Luke Alvez in season 12. Not long after his debut on the series, Rodriguez put his past directing experience to use by taking the lead on two episodes. Then, when Criminal Minds returned for the revival (a.k.a. season 16), he directed another episode.

The team had their wheels up for 324 episodes as they profiled some of the world’s worst serial killers, while also giving viewers a glimpse into the show’s main characters’ lives and gifting them with some incredible celebrity guest stars along the way.
The series has been full of ups and downs as fans saw many characters come and go and come back again. This article contains spoilers for Criminal Minds: Evolution episodes 1 and 2.
The CBS drama Criminal Minds debuted back in 2005 and lasted an incredible 15 seasons and 324 episodes. But despite its long run, it did have a few issues, which a new spinoff series on Paramount+ has now aimed to rectify. And while only three episodes of Criminal Minds: Evolution have debuted on the streaming platform, it’s safe to say that the crime drama is already better than its predecessor in one key aspect: its portrayal of mental health.
It’s unsurprising that a show that debuted 17 years ago didn’t have the best understanding of mental illnesses and shares some outdated views. But considering Criminal Minds hinges on the behavioral analysis of humans, you would expect it not to have as many toxic depictions of people with mental illnesses as it does and be unable to deal with the mental health of its own main characters.

The “Criminal Minds” revival is finally moving forward at Paramount+.
Variety has confirmed with sources that the continuation of the long-running CBS procedural has received a 10-episode order at the streaming service. The project was first reported as being in development in early 2021, though series star Paget Brewster had said on social media later that year that project appeared to be “dead.”
Reps for Paramount+ declined to comment.

“Criminal Minds,” the CBS procedural which wrapped in 2020 only to have a second life due to pandemic binge-watching on streaming services and memes on TikTok, was set to have a revival in 2021. However, star Paget Brewster set fans up for heartbreak when she tweeted that the new series was “dead” a few months later. During Paramount Plus’s TCA executive session on Feb. 1, network leadership confirmed that the revival was alive and well.
During the session, chief programming officer Tanya Gills said, “We are still very much in development on ‘Criminal Minds.’ We’ll have more to share soon on that, but it is alive and well.”
Following the discussion, president of original scripted series Nicole Clemens spoke to Variety more specifically about the show’s status.

Criminal Minds looks set to solve crimes all over again.
Less than a year after reports emerged that the revival of the beloved CBS drama was dead, we have an exciting update on the future.
Tanya Gills, Chief Programming Officer at ViacomCBS Streaming, told reporters Tuesday at the Television Critics Assoc. Winter Press Tour that, “We are still very much in development on Criminal Minds. We’ll have more to share soon on that, but it is alive and well.”
For months, a revival was rumored before Paramount+ placed a formal series order in February 2021.
In July of that year, hopes for the show to become a reality were dashed when series star Paget Brewster said in response to a fan that the project could be dead.
“Sadly, we think it’s dead,” the actress said.
“I’ll let you know if there is any progress, but it seems unlikely.

Paramount+ is still on track with its reboot of classic procedural Criminal Minds.
This comes despite reports last summer, stirred by comments by series star Paget Brewster, that the project might have been dead at the streamer.
Nicole Clemens, President, Paramount+ Original Scripted Series, said, “We are still very much in development on Criminal Minds. We’ll have more to share on that soon but it is alive and well.”
Clemens, who took on her new role at the streamer last summer, in addition to running Paramount Television Studios, said that the delay of the reboot was down to the executive shuffle at the company rather than anything to do with the project itself.
Paramount+ Renews ‘Seal Team’, ‘Mayor Of Kingstown’, ‘The Game’
Last February, the streamer revealed that it was bringing back the series, which ran for 15 seasons on CBS, with the team coming back together to investigate a single case over 10 episodes.

Netflix has pumped billions of dollars into original programming — but overall, its library of older licensed TV shows far outperforms homegrown hits like “Squid Game” or “Bridgerton.”
In 2021 on Netflix, “Criminal Minds,” the crime-drama procedural that aired on CBS from 2005-20, scored as the most-viewed TV show among U.S. streaming platforms tracked by Nielsen.
The 12 seasons of “Criminal Minds” available on Netflix registered an estimated 33.9 billion minutes watched last year by American viewers, per Nielsen. The show’s cast over the years included Mandy Patinkin, Thomas Gibson, Paget Brewster, Joe Mantegna, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Aisha Tyler.
The massive watch-time for “Criminal Minds” on Netflix is all the more impressive given that it’s nonexclusive: All 15 seasons of the show are on Paramount Plus (for which Nielsen does not report viewing) and seasons 13-15 are available on Hulu.

Paramount+’s planned revival of Criminal Minds may not come to pass after all, according to the series’ longtime star, Paget Brewster.

Well, consider this a strange turn of events.
Months after the revival of Criminal Minds was officially ordered at Paramount+, we have an ominous new development.
Paget Brewster, who led the cast of the original series and was set to return for the streaming reboot, has revealed the show is probably "dead."
“Sadly, we think it’s dead,” the actress said in response to a fan on Twitter adding.
“I’ll let you know if there is any progress, but it seems unlikely. Which is a bummer.”
Come again?
The project officially nabbed a Paramount+ series order, and while details were scarce, it was revealed it would feature a mix of old and new cast members tackling a single case over ten episodes.
At the time, the news of the revival was a surprise, especially when you consider the original series wrapped after 15 seasons on CBS just a year before.

That was fast.
Just a year after Criminal Minds went off the air, and just days after a revival was teased, Paramount+ has officially ordered a reboot of the beloved series.
Details are scarce about the project, but it will follow the team investigating a single case over ten brand-new episodes, suggesting that it will be a limited series.
News of the revival so soon after the original series wrapped is somewhat surprising, but it is a huge series across the globe, and if the streamer is serious about expanding, this could be one of the best shows to do it with.

Paramount+ is eyeing a comeback for the popular long-running CBS procedural Criminal Minds. A revival series is in very early development at the forthcoming streamer, sources close to the project tell Deadline.

The forthcoming streaming service — which will launch its rebrand from CBS All Access next month — is in the very early stages of developing a revival that would feature a mix of returning and new characters. Longtime showrunner Erica Messer would return for the revival. “Criminal Minds” is a co-production between CBS Studios and ABC Signature.
Reps for CBS Studios, ABC Signature and Paramount+ declined to comment.

A “Criminal Minds” revival is in early development at Paramount Plus, Variety has learned from sources.
As the project is still in the early stages, details are still being finalized, including which of the original cast members would return. However, sources say that longtime “Criminal Minds” showrunner and executive producer Erica Messer would return to work on the revival. As with the original series, CBS Studios and ABC Signature (formerly ABC Studios) would produce.
Reps for Paramount Plus and ABC Signature declined to comment. Reps for Messer did not immediately respond to Variety’s request for comment.
Created by Jeff Davis, “Criminal Minds” was an incredibly popular procedural for CBS, running for 15 seasons and 324 episodes. The series concluded its run on the broadcaster in February 2020.

Spoiler Alert: This article contains details from the series finale of Criminal Minds.
After 15 seasons, CBS’s long-running procedural created by Jeff Davis is coming to an end. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the gang at the Bau said farewell tonight with back-to-back episodes. Like many series, it ended with a gathering of the cast, glasses of champagne, and tearful speeches. But before they get to the goodbyes, Rossi (Joe Mantegna) and company had to hunt down one more psychopath before popping bottles and toasting the end of an era…and that psychopath was “The Chameleon.”
In the first episode of the two-parter, titled “Face Off,” our favorite Bau denizens are looking for the aforementioned “The Chameleon,” aka Everett Lynch (Michael Mosley), who has an affinity for cutting his victim’s faces off. It’s been almost a year since he almost killed Rossi, and at the top of the episode,...

Feb. 19, 2020, marked the end of an era.
After 324 episodes over 15 seasons, Criminal Minds drew to a close with a two-part finale, Criminal Minds Season 15 Episode 9 and Criminal Minds Season 15 Episode 10.
Suffice it to say, we're unlikely to see anything like it again.
Criminal Minds proved that unstable serial killers could be brought into America's living rooms.
Well, at least for an hour a week. No, more than an hour, thanks to cable. No, make that as much as you could stomach, thanks to streaming.
Debuting on Sept. 22, 2005, Criminal Minds was an acquired taste.
It was one never acquired by Mandy Patinkin, who left abruptly after portraying Jason Gideon for the first two seasons.
As Patinkin explained to New York Magazine in 2012, "I thought it was something very different. I never thought they were going to kill and rape all these women every night, every day, week after week, year after year.

In a perfect world, all of our favorite characters from Criminal Minds would be reunited for one last hurrah in its 15th and final season. After all, the show is ending - don't we deserve to say goodbye to everyone who made it so awesome? It does sound as though executive producer Erica Messer is doing everything in her power to make her dreams come true. In a January 2019 interview with Deadline, Messer spoke about the possibility of including old favorites in the final season, saying, "I am very hopeful that we can honor all of those characters who have been beloved and with this team, with the audience for years." What she didn't say, and what we're still wondering, is which of those characters will we actually see.

Criminal Minds is returning for its 15th season, which will be - as most Criminal Minds fans know - its last. Seeing as we were introduced to the many memorable members of the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit nearly 14 years ago, it's not going to be easy to say goodbye. With that said, we do know that the series will be going out with a bang, featuring some exciting guest stars and a (hopefully) satisfying end for all. Here's everything we know so far about the last season.
Who Is Returning For Season 15 of Criminal Minds?
All of your favorite current cast members will be included in the 15th and final season, including series vets David Rossi (Joe Mantegna), Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler), Emily Prentiss (Paget Brewster), Jennifer "J.J." Jareau (A.J. Cook), and Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness). The cast photos shot for the July/August issue of CBS' Watch!

It's good that things don't always get neatly tied up in a bow.
Take, for example, Criminal Minds Season 14 Episode 13.
I kept expecting Rossi to pull a solution out of a hat by episode's end. Because that's what happens week after week, season after season, except for the occasional two-parter.
But no. The chameleon unsub got away. That doesn't happen.
Unless the unsub is going to be a continuing presence, and frankly Everett Lynch wasn't intriguing enough to keep him looming for the dozen episodes or so that the venerable Criminal Minds has left.
Related: Criminal Minds Season 14 Episode 12 Review: Hamelin
In an episode that was Aj Cook's directorial debut, having Rossi tell about the case through flashbacks was effective, especially so because Krystall is a civilian.
It's not like Jj talking to ex-cop Will or Prentiss explaining to current FBI agent Mendoza.

With the announcement that CBS’ Criminal Minds has been renewed for a 15th and final season, one question that came to many viewers’ minds was: Might Thomas Gibson‘s Aaron Hotchner be even a tiny part of the crime drama’s swan song?
The question of Shemar Moore, also a former/original cast member, returning during Season 15 isn’t nearly as complicated. Since leaving the series in early 2017, and while now fronting CBS’ own S.W.A.T., Moore has thus far reprised his role as Derek Morgan twice. Another encore during the show’s final, 10-episode run can easily be presumed (though is not confirmed).

One of the longest-running scripted series currently on television, CBS’ Criminal Minds, is coming to an end, but not before getting a final chapter. The network has renewed the crime drama for a 10-episode 15th season. The series, which is currently filming the finale of its 15-episode 14th season, will remain in continuous production, shooting the 10 additional episodes right after to air during the 2019-20 broadcast season.
At 15 seasons, Criminal Minds’ run will match those of NBC’s ER and CBS’ CSI, with only Gunsmoke, L&O, L&O: Svu, NCIS and Grey’s Anatomy currently ahead of it on the list of the longest-running dramas ever. Criminal Minds, starring Joe Mantegna, will sign off having produced 325 episodes, landing in the Top 20 of all time for most TV episodes.
“It is the quintessential CBS hit. We are so proud to have aired it,” said Amy Reisenbach, CBS’ Evp current programs.

The end is in sight for CBS’ Criminal Minds, which will end its long run after 15 seasons.
The cast has had many changes with several stars having come and gone over the years, including original lead Mandy Patinkin, who exited after the second season, Thomas Gibson, who was fired in 2016 after eleven seasons for an on-set altercation, and Shemar Moore, who now headlines another CBS drama, S.W.A.T. (Moore has since returned to Criminal Minds for a guest stint). Another popular cast member, Paget Brewster, rejoined the show after being away for a few seasons.
Then there are stalwarts who have been with the series from the beginning, such as Matthew Gray Gubler as Dr. Spencer Reid and A.J. Cook as Jennifer “Jj” Jareau, as well as Kirsten Vangsness as Penelope Garcia, who has been with the series since Season 2. Star Joe Mantegna has been a steady presence as David Rossi since the third season.
